I recently aquired a Streak 7 and am having trouble resetting it since it has all the original owners info on it.
1. I encountered a force close error upon first boot.
- android.process.acore stopped unexpectedly
2. After this error continued to appear I said F*** this and rebooted into the Stock Dell recovery(Volume + and Power)
I chose option 3 for a factory reset and erase internal tablet storage.
Rebooted and Bam same bull**** errors. I did this 3 more times powering off with the pin hole off button after the streak kept booting with this error.
I read this entire forum development and general questions to see what problems others are having, I came across a few threads all very informative on how to attempt to restore your Streak 7.
Before attempting the various methods of either NVFlash, the fastboot method and even flashing clockwork recovery through fastboot I figured I would see what I could get the Streak to do in it's current state.
*Note* I am very familiar with ADB and Fastboot but if I over looked something I will not be offended if anyone can provide some useful information.
OK, Here is my story
I put the streak on my HDMI dock and was able to succefully install the ADB drivers on Windows 7 x64. From there I launched the ADB Shell
c:/androidsdk/tools> adb shell
$
once in the shell i found I could launch the android setting using this command
$ am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings
Once in the settings and periodically hitting forceclose and quit to the .acore error I was able to retrieve this information
Android Version
2.2
Baseband Version
11.809.05.02.00
Kernel version
2.6.32.9
OEM Version
GLUNB1A132433
Build Number
14394
I also realized that I can install apps through adb so I went and installed the latest standalone ADW Launcher which installs fine and allows me to actually use the device a little.
c:\androidsdk\tools>adb install launcher.apk
1307 KB/s (2533717 bytes in 1.892s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/launcher.apk
Success
You will notice that apps install to this location
/data/local/TMP
it turns out that even installing the new launcher won't allow me to do much because the previose owner changed his google password so I have no market acces or anything like that.
I then tried doing the factory reset within the Android settings>privacy>factory data reset.
The device reboots and I again encounter the same error and the device has also not reset the user data.
So i rooted the device and found that even root was only temporary, the ADB shell returns the # sign indicating that it has root, great but when the device is rebooted it returns to the condition I got it in.
If I run ADB remount with root I get this
c:\androidsdk\tools>adb remount
remount failed: Operation not permitted
c:\androidsdk\tools>
this tells me that even though the phone has root it will not mount any file system with read/write permissions
I then installed the latest free Clockwork Rom Manger via ADB
it prompts me for root permissions I select allow and then the app closes after it downloads and tries to write the clockwork recovery image. I said fine this won't work.
I moved on to the Flashing Clockwork Recovery via Fastboot
In Fastboot I get this
c:\androidsdk\tools>fastboot devices
? fastboot
c:\androidsdk\tools>fastboot -i 0x413C flash recovery clockwork.img
sending 'recovery' (4416 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.560s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.110s]
finished. total time: 0.670s
c:\androidsdk\tools>
WOW I didn't know that 4MB could be sent and flashed over usb in under a second!!!! WTF!!!!!
So obviously there is something going on here where I cannot write to the internal memory...
I decided to just use NVFlash because people seem to be having luck with it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1018809
I Didn't.......
I spent a hell of a lot of time downloading and redownloading the different images and finally got them all downloaded successfully. I run the restore.bat file and it says everything went fine but it didn't, I tried NVFlash with and without P14.img and it just doesn't seem to do anything it always restores it to how it was when i got it errors and all.
Now for the best method I tried, the fastboot method by flashing boot_orig.img, recovery_orig.img and system_orig.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011654
Flash_image is not and ADB Shell command
and I also don't beleive the images are writing to the disc that fast.
I'm tired of typing now so please if anyone has any info on how I can write information to the internal ROM memory not the internal sd card I would greatly appreciate it.

Bump for a resolution. A lot of folks seem to be encountering this issue; I think it has something to do with a Linux failsafe measure (from another thread), but I'm not savvy enough in Linux to know for sure. Good luck to you!
Hey Thanks for the Bump, I am tearing my hair out over thins thing.
On another note I found this post for the LG GX2 for flashing clockwork recovery through APX with NVFLASH
http://www.techofweb.com/technology/flashing-cwm-recovery-g2x.html
I hope there might be a way to do this on the Streak, but I don't know that much about NVFlash. My hope in getting the clockwork recovery is that the restore and recovery tools used in clockwork recovery will in theory allow me to format and write roms to the internal memory...... I hope
Anyway I hope someone is reading and understanding my trouble other than Z4nd4r
Tom
I've been having similar problems with my streak7. It was working fine on stock 2.2.2 then got stuck in boot loop at the "stick together" screen.
I tried to factory reset in recovery. No change.
I tried to restore with nvflash. It completed fine, but no change.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1018809
I tried with fastboot (boot.img, restore.img and system.img). It completed fine, no change.
I tried the 2.2.2 update.pkg in recovery, but it stops at "install modem error", no change.
I tried to flash DJ_Steve's honeycomb, and it stops at:
Formatting partition 2 BCT please wait... FAILED!
command failure: create failed (bad data)
bootloader status: partition table is required for this command (code: 8) message: nverror:0x2 (0x2) flags: 0
I tried formatting all partitions with:
nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --format_all
then restore with nvflash
It completes with no errors, but still no change.
I also tried to get clockwork on the streak 7 with fastboot. Even though I didn't get any errors, clockwork recovery did not get installed. So I'm thinking it's some sort of write protect error, since nothing I write to the device seems to be sticking.
If I format all partitions, would the streak 7 even get to the t-mobile "stick together" logo? I would think it would get stuck at the dell logo. I'm stuck at this point and have no idea what to try next. Any suggestions?
Could the problem be due to previous owner(s) trying to root the DS7 and Dell had implemented some kind of security measure to prevent rooting of the DS7?
Bump for a real solution.
I found a solution and my solution was to sell it before I threw it against a wall.
What's the common denominator, here? Were these all purchased used/3rd party?
Mine was bought new and ran great till mothers day and my sis asked to use it to post pics to facebook so I unmounted my sd and gave it to her she poped in her 32 gig sd card and got tired of waiting for the the gallery to populate and ejected the card without unmounting it and handed it back to me and said it was junk an and slow .......ever since its been stuck in read only
Ive dissasymbled it formated it flashed it factory reset it and reguardless of what I do still comes back the same as though I hadnt touched it.......even tried to short the nand chip out to clear it..........its like a cockroarch thats wounded .....it just wont finish dieing
I think we need a jtag solution. Doesn't seem like anything done with current tools will help.
I've scoured the internet and turned up nothing.
My streak 7 is collecting dust and probably going on eBay soon. To hell with Dell. This is my first Dell android device and probably my last.
Edit: found information
So I found the datasheet for the NAND chip the Streak 7 uses (http://omapworld.com/iNAND_e_MMC_4_41_IF_data_sheet_v1_0[1].pdf). Aparently the NAND has a write protect feature (temporary and permanent). Tech5 from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113264 says there's a failsafe function that locks the NAND in write protect mode. I don't have the hardware expertise to dig down and see if the system is write protecting the system by locking the chip in write protect mode. If we can somehow figure out how to disable the write protect on the chip, we may have a solution. Maybe someone with good hardware knowledge can take a look and give some feedback?
I'm having this same issue over here. I've tried NVFLASH and Fastboot and it acts like it's happening and then you reboot and get back to the same image every time. Maybe time for a call to Dell on this?
Call Dell
It looks like these Streaks are all stock and having the same problem. I tried calling dell but they wouldn't help me because the streak I got doesn't have the flap for the sd card and that is where they say the Service Tag is written. Freaking BullSh!t. Anyway if someone is willing to call dell and see what they have to say that would be awesome.
Dell is the only solution?
I had a same problem too. No matter what I do, the unit reverts back. It became Read-Only Mode. I guess it happens often enough DELL aware of this problem and the tech supports knows what to do. Only way to fix the unit at this point is ship it back.
I shipped back to Dell and Dell repaired it. Turn Around time: 1 Week.
This is my 1st post.
I do have Streak 5 and 7. I love Streak 5 and DJ Steve's ROM Rocks in Streak 5.

I'm on the phone with Dell right now about this as I can't find another solution and another user had to get theirs repaired. We'll see what they say.
Solution to write protect?
I was trying to copy some music to mine and got the write protect error message. I took out the micro SD card holder and it indeed was locked. Flipped the switch and back in business! Hope this helps someone!
I wonder if it is newer streaks that are doing this, because I think mine was in stock with Tmobile for a while. They had plenty of them there. They must be "Locking the bootloader" so to speak. If anyone wants to send one to a Dev maybe they can do something about it.
any luck with this any 1? =(
I had a similar issue last week, it looks to be the "Read-Only" Bug. I had to send mine back to Dell, and they just sent me a new unit.
Whatever you do, make sure your DS7 does NOT hit 0% battery, it seems to be the cause of this "Ready-Only" bug.
So long story short: tried upgrading ICS to JB - fail(missing system apps), tried flashing ICS via fastboot - fail(several images didn't copy due to signature check).
So I have a phone with more files missing than before, causing radio/wireless/bt/camera to fail, and root access only in SS.
I still have use of adb, fastboot, SS, and external-sd.
Q: Requesting data from a functioning ICS to compare with what I have left to discern what was lost. Namely a directory tree with filenames/sizes, output of dmesg and df.
If anyone has a solid lead as how to extract missing files from system.img.ext4, I'm all ears.

You would think. However, it doesn't matter whether I use command-line tools or rsdlite5.6/5.7 - there seems to be either a sig check that fails (rsdlite) or file transfer error (command-line). I'm suspecting has something to do with the locked bootloader. It's hard to tell for lack of error code interpretation or lower-level debugging output. It won't even let me install gapps-ics: invalid signature.
I managed to recover root in the OS(cp su to /system/bin), so I can at least modify things outside SS. It may come to the point of manually copying/deleting individual files in /system, as I noticed the official JB update script merely patches what is there and deletes what is deprecated (verifying sigs for everything).
There could be an issue with my linux usb driver, but I never had any problems while taking my mb520 to CM10.
I saw someone offering stock files for those who deleted them, but I also noticed everyone else is nervous about hosting such content anywhere.
I keep noticing a /modem mount, and yet never noticed it while parsing fs. Can anyone verify this exists?
Okay, so just tried fastboot on cmdline again, the max-download-size variable is 31457280 bytes~30Mb. I guess this could be the underlying cause of this mess, since the three files cdrom/system/NON-HLOS are all over that threshold...
I'm going to do some more digging.

My kindle got screwed up again after a restore from back up. Now it goes like this
a)shows Kindle fire (yellow) 1 second
b)shows fastboot 1 second
c)then screen goes blank, until I switch it off
As I switch it on, repeats a, b & c
The device manger keeps searching & refreshing OMAP4440 drivers every 2 second( with ding sounds)
This happens both with a factory cable as well as the standard usb.
Any one knows how to troubleshoot this?
Bump
OK I have no experience with bricked kindles that are bricked in that manner but I think kindle fire first aid may be useful, but if that device is not installing fast enough because of it shutting off before windows can complete installing the drivers I have to say and this may not be useful or something you want to try, but Linux might be the way to go, it typicly doesn't need to install the driver because drivers are either integrated into the kernel or loaded immediately as modules, and Linux comes with quite a few drivers by default. So your device would be recognized as its flashing off and on, from their I don't know what you could really do even if u have access to fast boot if it keeps shutting off evert two seconds I don't see you successfully flashing it unless u know how to write a bash script that waits for it to show up and then immediately flashes the boot loader, which is fairly small, it might be able to flash before it shuts off if your extremely lucky. From what my thought track is seeing i think it might stop with the constant rebooting once you manage to flash the bootloader, from their i woukd see fixing any other bad partitions as easy. This is all from a novice unbrickers standpoint. I may be completely off, haven't ever used kf first aid, so I don't know if your brick is fixable or not. Just thought I'd post my two cents since no one has been posting any help for you yet. Hopefully someone else that knows more about this can help you out.

looks like your device doesn't have enough power to stay in fastboot. just leave it charging for about an hour even if it doesn't display anything. it should still be charging.

1. I tried pluging it in ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386 live usb, didnt detect the device. Do I have to download some thing before?
2. After a,b,c, the screen goes black but the OMAP4440 keeps refreshing in device manger it only stops when I push the power button for more than 20 seconds. I beleive the KFHD is not switching of but just goes to a black screen.
3. What is a bash script?
OK bash is a way more flexible scripting language you use in Linux. Think the Linux equivalent of a windows batch file but way better. You said it was going into fast boot for a brief moment. Before rebooting, I figured if its long enough for the fast boot command to recognize it in Linux, you could have the command for flashing the boot partition handy in a terminal. I figured if you had a stroke of luck, because the boot partition is so small, you might be able to flash it and unbrick it to at least get it to boot into fast boot to the point where you could restore the other partitions. I don't remember how exactly the fast boot command works in terms of waiting for the device to show up, that's why j was thinking use a batch script to repeat itself until sometching happened, but if it waits for the device u could simply run fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img. Note boot.Img would be whatever the boot image restore file is called. Also Ubuntu probably is detect it, you must don't know it, its not going to popup anything or do anything unusual when its detected, only way u would know is to either install a device manager, I use a gnome one because I use an older distro of ubuntu, or run a command from a terminal the moment u see fast boot screen, I don't remember the command offhand, actually running dmesg would probably show it being picked up as a device connected, not sure what exactly it would say though.

I am literally falling asleep right now, I will write it tomorrow after I finish writing my résumé... I will warn you it will be slightly vague because I don't use the newer distributions of Ubuntu and am unfamiliar with the ui. Actually for simplicity I will upload a zip file with the fastboot binary and any files it requires, so I don't have to explain how to install stuff in Ubuntu. Hopefully the nautilus browser is the same. For the record nautilus is basically like Ubuntu version of windows explorer. As long as you can find your home folder and launch a terminal you should be able to follow my vague instructions. Anyways I will write a guide tomorrow since I am literally nodding off.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
OK I haven't finished my resume but I figured this wouldn't take long to explain and I will just keep procrastinating if I don't clear everything in my mind. OK so to start with you need to open a terminal, I am unfamiliar with exactly where that will be located on new versions version f Linux because it doesn't use gnome ui. Last I checked if u hit the Ubuntu logo a menu with apps would come out, if there's an accessories section it would probably be there, if not there's a search function, if not that try Ctrl alt t, not sure if that keyboard shortcut is standard or not though.OK now I feel I can use numbers.
1. Download included zip file( will post from my PC in a moment)
2. Open the home folder in Ubuntu, again unsure where this will be but usually it shows u some things on that bar on the left, if home isn't mong them then click on like videos or music and go up a level, that is usually home.
3. Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder in the home directory, let's call the folder kindlefix
4. Download http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/tate/kfhd7-u-boot-prod-7.2.3.bin this file and put it in the kindlefix directory.
5. In the terminal and type "CD kindlefix", now type "md5sum kfhd7-u-boot-prod-7.2.3.bin". Now check that the string outputted is the same as the one on the website. If it is continue to next step if not try redownloading the file again and checking it again.
6. In the terminal now type ./fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader kfhd7-u-boot-prod-7.2.3.bin
7. Try hitting enter with your device powered off and when fastboot says waiting for device, power it on with fastboot cable.
Like I've been saying this is going to take a bit of luck to flash successfully, and if it does try to flash and fail it will probably just brick it worse, at which point I'd return to amazon. You might have to repeat this step a few times to get the timing right to see if it will flash, its a fairly small file so u might get extremely lucky. Post back and tell me what kind of luck u manage to get.
Your problem is that you are using OMAP drivers instead of fast boot or adb drivers.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD using xda app-developers app
It does that yes, but only after it stays in fast boot for a few seconds, so we are trying to catch the kindle while its in fastboot with Linux so it can try to reflash the boot loader, if we could succeed in that then getting the rest working would be the easy part, though this as is is very difficult, only reason I even suggested trying this is because the boot loader is so small it doesn't take that long to flash, so I am hoping for it to flash in the few seconds it is in fastboot.

If the device IS actually going into fastboot, then it's entirely possible to re-flash the bootloader.
In order to do this, you have to enter the command while the device is unplugged, then plug it in when you see "waiting for device". As soon as fastboot mode is detected, the command will execute and the bootloader will be flashed, but be warned....
While flashing the bootloader happens rather quickly, if for some reason only part of the bootloader is flashed, the device will likely be unrecoverable. I suggest that you make sure the md5sum of the downloaded u-boot-bin checks out, and that you aren't using an extraordinarily slow computer.
Yea at this point his kindle is going to go either way, either way though if he didn't try what he's doing or if he did and it didn't work he'd be sending it into amazon though more than likely and seeing if they'd take it.

I lost you on step 5. Which website? the md5sum that i get is (bb029673d8f186db4dff6d38f4aa28cf) <---Nevermind. I know what website you are talking about.
---------- Post added at 01:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:22 AM ----------
Once I get to number 6 I get this?
[email protected]:~/Kindlefix$ ./fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader kfhd7-u-boot-prod-7.2.3.bin
bash: ./fastboot: No such file or directory
And the fastboot file and kfhd7...bin file are inside the folder.
Update.. FIXED
Thanks @stunts513 for your help. I was able to fix my kindle. The linux didn't work. Somehow it managed to stay on fastboot screen. I went back to Windows. Opened a command prompt typed fastboot -1 0x1949 getvar product and hit enter. it waited for device. turned Kindle off. plugged fastboot cable to kindle then PC and was able to read it. Once that happened I was able to manually input the info
{fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot "C:\KFFirstAide\path\to\boot.img"
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery "C:\KFFirstAide\path\to\recovery.img"
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system "C:\KFFirstAides\path\to\ystem.img"} ofcourse changing the paths.
I downloaded Hashcode's Kindle OS from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2218475.
And it worked.

Lol,nice guide mate. I saw the title and just thought,"How the hell does OMAP4 refresh itself?" Anyway,I think that he would be better off installing android-tools-fastboot since he's running Ubuntu.
Yea true, I hadn't familiarized myself at the time with the package names and such, just checked that post and man is the date old, almost a year... Learned quite a bit since then.

help me please please
Translation: hi i am latino but quite frequent the forum, not previously thought since I do not speak English , some speak Spanish could help me ? I feel the same as the young man who started the topic , see something done to fix it but I do not understand , please help : crying :
My Spanish is horrible so I ran it through Google.
If it is doing exactly what the original poster is doing rather than showing up only as a omap4boot and not turning on then I recommend using Linux and running "fastboot -i 0x1949 erase boot" once it clears the boot partition it should kick it into fastboot until the boot partition gets re-flashed.
Hello All,
The other night my kindle had approximately 10% battery life left; I forgot to charge it up the next day. I noticed the battery expired and proceeded to charge it up; when I plugged the charger in the battery symbol came up in the middle of the screen. I charged it overnight and proceeded to turn it on the next morning. When I did so, the "Kindle Fire" (all in white lettering) screen popped up and didn't go away. I have not modded this kindle in any way!
I searched the forums and made a fastboot cable, it goes into fastboot mode but my computer doesn't recognize it when i issue the "adb device" command. I am not sure what happened to my kindle (it is 1 month past the warranty date) but I was hoping to re-install the OS back onto the device.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should use a Linux distro to get the drivers. To restore, use the kindle fire first aid or SRT
Sent from my device running CyanogenMod 11
I believe I have the drivers installed. Under the Device Manager I see a an opting called "Kindle Fire" once I expand to the next level I see "Android ADB Interface". To further clarify, I am not able to "Enable ADB" on the physical device.
I tried using KFHD SRT, I selected Option 1 and the Command Prompt indicated that it transferred 903XXX kb in 53 seconds. when I went to "Erase Cache and User Data" it couldn't find the device and my computer sounded like the USB connection was continuously being connected and disconnected in a loop.
Since that happened I tried issuing the command
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
My prompt states:
< waiting for device >
product: Soho-PVT-Prod-07
finished. total time 0.004s
Then if I issue the command
Code:
adb devices
My prompt states:
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
There are no devices in the list. This is probably because I didn't have ADB Enabled on my Kindle before it Died.
Alternatively, I tried the KF First Aide tried to "Completely Restore the KFHD7 to 7.2.1" (Option 4). It downloaded a bunch of files then spit out the following:
target reported max download size of 1005584384 bytes

Stop! The SRT tool is for the Tate model not the Soho. You could brick your device if you continue. Go to kfsowi.com to get images for the Soho.
And when you're in fastboot it will not respond to adb commands.
thanks for the reply. Apparently kfsowi.com does not exist anymore. Is there another resource? What do I have to do to get the images onto the "SOHO" device?
Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately there is no OTG support for our phone, for the time being you can forget about it. It's also impossible to transfer video with a USB-C cable. Currently, this Windows is such more of a curiosity than a useful system
Do u have usb working I think i was useing tue wrong boot loader or something cuz the newer bootloader works really well with usb there is a way to get usb c to displayed to a monitor i seen. It on telegram and I did fet usb to work its pretty usable for now just not sound yet this project is really dope tho u have to say
I also was wondering if there was a way to flash the boatloader to the phone so i dont have to keep pluging it in the computer
Question,
When trying to reboot to Windows it will eventually blue screen with the message : Stop Code: Driver PNP WATCHDOG. I read thats because I have not flashed the file : http://files.renegade-project.org/devcfg-polaris_FixTS.img
When I try I get the below:
Warning: skip copying devcfg_ab image avb footer (devcfg_ab partition size: 0, devcfg_ab image size: 38444).
Sending 'devcfg_ab' (37 KB) OKAY [ 0.008s]
Writing 'devcfg_ab' OKAY [ 0.004s]
Finished. Total time: 0.031s
Assume the Warning is the problem, I tried resetting everything to stock with the mi flash tool. This was great for my Chinese language skills but the warning still shows when I try to flash.
other laptop, different cable, same thing.
Any advice ?
