I have flash magisk with twrp (J610F)
But my phone still doesn't have root
Hello and welcome to XDA.
This is a place with lots of information and resources, so the first thing to do should always be to search. But since there's so much information, finding what you want can sometimes be a challenge...
If you do need to ask for help, it matters how you ask. Providing as much details as possible is usually a good idea. And if possible, logs. Take a look here:
https://didgeridoohan.com/magisk/MagiskHelp
A good idea when trying to figure things out is to visit your device's forum:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j6+
There you can usually find guides on things like rooting Thar applies to your specific device (if there are extra things that need to be done).
I did a quick search and found this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ecovery-twrp-3-2-3-1-galaxy-j6-j610f-t3875150
In there, you'll find this little tidbit of information:
Due to some new securities in Samsung's latest Pie kernels, root will not work with the stock kernel. The patched kernel below is required to gain root on Pie.

So, extra stuff seems to be necessary for your device...
Hope you get things working, and don't hesitate to ask for help if you get stuck somewhere. But make sure to be detailed. Good luck.
Cheers

Sorry I'm a little noobish when it comes to Androids (trying to come over from an iPhone).
I understand rooting. But... Can you tell me advantages/disadvantages of all these ROMS? Do some have the latest radio firwmare and some don't? I thought I read I could also modify these ROMs as well. I would appreciate some insight. Thanks

You can do anything. If you read the forums you will learn a lot more than any 1 person here could ever teach you in one post. Happy reading.
P.s. posts like this are frowned upon around where when you could have searched.
ROMs are just modified versions of the standard firmware the developers that make them bundle certain apps with them and make some slight changes. IIRC they are all rooted.
I think the radio firmware can be updated seperatly as i downloaded the HTC radio directly from the HTC website.
There is a thread here that tries to chart the differences between builds (the name "rom" is kind of a misnomer).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517506
Also, for community ("hacked"/"rooted") builds, they generally don't include the radio. You would update the radio and bootloader separately. The official builds tend to include radio and or bootloader updates.
http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5692
This should help you out with any information on Firmwares, its alot better then a stupid chart.
Just do yourself a favor.. Do not Flash before you read the entire thread. Because you may find your new G1 is a brick.
If you want something or want to upgrade SPL or Recovery or Rom Make sure you competely read the thread you may find that other users that have previously flashed that particular item will give feedback.

that link also links to the same "stupid" chart. btw that chart is great for deciding which build suits your needs the best
I was sorta kindling.....
My thread has all the information and MORE. The chart is helpful but you can't get any helpful links with it. My thread has information/my thoughts/ and updates on how to find the newest firmware.

FORGIVE ME, for i am a total NOOB. I just got my g1 in the other day, and i am completely excited about it. I saw my friends phone and he was telling me i should root my phone, and told me all the benefits of it. The only thing is he didnt show me how to do it! instead told me to come here, the g1 shrine and all of its lovers. Now i just want some basic info anyone can give me, like:
1. what happens when i wipe my phone?
2. what exactly are roms? and why are there so many of them! (as im surfing through the threads)
3. what exactly is SPL?
4. and any other information you think is critical for my knowledge about the g1
Again i appreciate any help i can get from you guys, i know this community is a nice and friendly one so im glad to be here! thanks again guyss
1) when you wipe your phone it removes all personal data, e.g. google sign ins, apps, settings, messeges, etc. you WONT lose your contacts.
2) a ROM is a firmware build, which is what the phone runs on. There are quite a few of them because some are designed for looks over performance wheras some are for performance over looks.
3/4) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519523 - enjoy reading

Welcome to the forums... Get familiar with the search button at the top. You will be amazed at what you can find...
Please read the stickies at the top of the forum page. This question belongs in the General Forum...not developer!!!
No I will not forgive you. Lol. I think its hilarious how many idiots we get posting in the developers forum asking questions like, What is a rom? Also, one of the mods needs to delete this thread pronto!

This is Spot on. DEVELOPMENT section is active here because this is a DEVELOPMENT forums. However Technical support or General Questions should be in the DREAM subsection of the DREAM forums. NOT IN DEVELOPMENT

lol DP you are on a reported roll here tonight.
google and search is so easy use... i just don't get some (or most) people.
A little advice... before you start all of this, make sure it doesn't take control of you. Before you know it you'll have alerts waking you up at night telling you someone's new rom just was posted. It will take you over if you let it. lol
Moderation is key.
isn't this a repost anyway?
lol and you bought a Google phone with Google Search built in....
1. It wipes all data on your phone (apps and data, not your firmware)
2. ROM stands for Read Only Memory. Take it as your G1's operating system, like Vista or XP on a computer
3. SPL is pretty much the interface you will be using when flashing an image or using fastboot commands. Be careful when you flash an SPL though, it can potentially brick your phone
4. Just watch out when you flash the SPL, and remember to use Nandroid backups. Installing firmware and applications alone will NEVER brick your phone. Flashing your SPL incorrectly with a corrupted download can, remember to check the MD5 checksums.

I know the feeling of total noobness, let me tell you.. Especially if you coming here and reading all the threads for the first because it can be pretty overwhelming. Hopefully I can pass some of my knowledge on to you to kind of, ease your fears.
.:: Answers ::.
1.)If you wipe your phone, your restoring it to factory settings.
2.)ROMS are different versions of the OS that friendly developers such as Haykuro, JesusFreke and Cyanogen put together, to provide different functionalities or the same functionalities just more reliably or in a different way. (The only way you can use a different ROM is by having root access to your phone.)
3.)Secondary Program Loader, typically, a second stage bootloader. Not a term actually used by Qualcomm for msm7k has a more complex boot path involving both CPUs. Initial/secondary program loader is usually in reference to nand/onenand boot setups where you have a very small initial bootloader (1k to 16k typical), that is just enough to load a much larger secondary bootloader. Often there is something that runs first, in-rom, on-die (this is true of omap and msm chips for example) that is responsible for getting the IPL loaded.
4.)I would browse the Android FAQ to find other pieces to the much growing puzzle. I would definitely root your phone though (instructions here), and once your ready, setup your apps2sd (instructions here). If you want, I can help you do your apps2sd too, just hit me up on Gtalk if you want. As for ROMS, if you need help choosing, you can (go here) or if you want a suggestion, i would use Cyanogen's v3.4 ROM because it's an way modified version of JF'sv1.51 but allows you to use the Ext3 format for your apps2sd (which is good).
Hopefully this sheds more light for you, hit me up if you have any other questions.
I am not sure if this question is suitable for this forum. If it is not, will someone please direct me someplace where I can get the advice I seek?
I just got a Samsung Galaxy Light phone for use with MetroPCS, and am looking to install a particular compatible theme I found in the Play Store. It is a paid theme, so although I'm not advertising it (I have nothing to do with its creation or maintenance or anything,) I'm not sure if I'm allowed to name or link to it in my question.
Basically, the theme seems to require one of several custom ROMs be installed on my phone, which must first be rooted. I have already bricked one phone of this model trying to get this process done before I really understood which ROM I needed and which custom Recovery was required to install that ROM. I am looking to avoid a similar phone-bricking disastrophy with this new phone.
So, the question is, is there anyone here who knows this topic well, who is willing to give me advice on the steps to do this in the safest possible way? I have searched and searched on the internet, but every thread, post or article I find seems either incomplete, specific to a different kind of phone, requiring the use of a custom Recovery not compatible with any of the ROMs I can use, or require certain previous knowledge which a rooting-and-ROMs n00b like myself does not have.
Once again, if this is not the place for this then I apologize, and can you please tell me where I can find advice on this?
If this is the correct place to ask such questions, and you need more specifics (the theme I want to use, the ROMs with which it's compatible, etc.) please ask for the specifics and I will provide them as best I can. If sharing links to these things is just not allowed, I would be fine talking to someone experienced about it via Private Message, or whatever else is appropriate.
Thank you for your time,
-Valek
Hey guys i'm new to XDA honestly and i wanna root my accent speed X2
is Magisk any useful
Otherwise Is there any method to root it beside kingroot because it seem to not work
Thanks in advance
Welcome to XDA.
There's not a lot of information to be found for that device, but if it's anything close to stock Android you should be able to use one of the two installation methods, as documented here:
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html
If you run into any kind of trouble along the way, you might be able to find some information here:
https://www.didgeridoohan.com/magisk
If you need further info on other details, both the XDA search feature and your search engine if choice are great tools, as most things probably have been covered before. Of course, if you can't get things up and running, asking for help on the forums is always an option. Just make sure to ask in the right places so you don't postout of topic. For general Android stuff there are several forums available, as an example:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
Good luck.
Thank you didgeridoohan for help you know that i'm new and don't know proper places to ask for anything tho imma go post a thread in the right place Thank you very much
No worries. If you have Magisk questions you are of course always welcome to post here in the Magisk forum.
And please do share if you get things running.
Hi, I'm Vaneyen, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I have lots of Andriod devices, and have meddled with rooting a little bit, but am not yet entirely comfortable with risking the brick. However, I am deeply interested in Hacking, which simply means "making My devices work the way I want them to." I have (with the help of Youtube bloggers) hacked Keurig coffee machines, so now it's time to get my Android devices working the way I want them to!
Hi Vaneyen and welcome to XDA! You came with experience to the right place for modding, flashing, development, etc.!
Cheers

Thank you, galaxys.
I have an Android TV box I'm looking to root, but I'm unclear of one thing. I've learned (thank you 3mel!) that the process will likely involve:
1) unlocking the bootloader (if needed),
2) flashing the correct TWRP recovery (for that series of boxes),
3) flashing magisk 21.4 in TWRP and
4) installing magisk apk.
Is there a tutorial on the site aimed at guiding someone through the process of determining the correct process for each of these steps? I've learned that my box in question has an Amlogic p212, but is that enough to go on?
Thanks for the welcome!

First post in the correct forum...
Seems like you posted good details in June in those forums.
You can bump your last post there and maybe someone will respond. Any of tutorial should be specific to your device if one exists....
I wonder if it is possible to install root rights on Apple hardware.

Good question, but I have no idea where to ask it. You may get good results if you google "how to root ios iphone" - I just did, and there are a few promising hits in there.
