AOSP doesn't support AVRCP 1.13 which is the version that introduced metadata support. Until it does, custom ROMs the devs have added it to are the only one's that'll display song/album/artist.
Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP)
This profile is designed to provide a standard interface to control TVs, Hi-fi equipment, etc. to allow a single remote control (or other device) to control all of the A/V equipment to which a user has access. It may be used in concert with A2DP or VDP.
It has the possibility for vendor-dependent extensions.
AVRCP has several versions with significantly increasing functionality:
1.0—Basic remote control commands (play/pause/stop, etc.)
1.3—all of 1.0 plus metadata and media-player state support The status of the music source (playing, stopped, etc.)
Metadata information on the track itself (artist, track name, etc.).
1.4—all of 1.0, 1.3, plus media browsing capabilities for multiple media players Browsing and manipulation of multiple players
Browsing of media metadata per media player, including a "Now Playing" list
Basic search capabilitieshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_profile

As far as I know, no n4 custom rom supports it until today. Google will most likely never update it, don't know what the heck they are thinking.
it's such an elementary feature. Can't believe it's not integrated....This really makes me mad.

What do you mean no custom ROM supports it?
I was waiting for someone to confirm if AVRCP 1.3 was going to be added in android 4.2.2 but now I'm planning on rooting and getting a ROM that does support this...
This is my most wanted bug fix for android 4.2.2, and I can't believe they missed it. Shame on Google.

I completely agree
Does anyone know of a stable mod that does have AVRCP 1.3?
I'm glad that I am not the only one^^
Please share this bug report as often as possible in other forums. Maybe if enough ppl will star this google will react - MAYBE^^
main reason
This was the main reason I was looking forward to the update...now, I'm sad. Guess I'm going to be forced to root now...anyone know when any of the ROMs will add this much needed feature?

That's all I was looking forward to also.
Its no wonder companies ignore their users when they needlessly and wrongly report bugs for something which is clearly not a bug.
If I was Google I'd ignore every single bug report which was actually reporting a missing feature.
For whatever reason, Google left it out, probably because its a niche requirement. It's not a bug.
thank god ur not google
maybe it's not the right category but at least I did something to point out that there's a problem and gave other ppl the chance to express their madness about this problem aswell.
And a niche? C'mon this is absolute standard nowadays and we can expect this from a 2012 smartphone when even my 2010 i9000 had it!

Chromecast has been rooted. You have to have specific devices, as Google locked the device down and is unrootable after a certain point. Check to see if your serial number is listed in the "Rootable Serial Numbers" thread, and make sure you've never updated it over WiFi, as it will automatically install Google's updates and render your device locked permanently. All of this information is covered extensively in the threads around this one you started, use the information that is present.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537022
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529903
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578653
Also Google has open sourced Chromecast's API's so anyone can develop app support for it. The question is what you plan on doing once you root/jailbreak it. Whatever it is will still require development and app support.
borxnx: Thanks, but I already knew that, obviously I am talking about the *NEW* devices that have a protected bootloader! :-/
xlxcrossing: I knew all that too, I am not asking for API's or anything else, I am specifically asking for jailbreaking and being able to install my own ROM!

Likely you won't see anything open-public until it actually works, as it's a cat-and-mouse game with Google. Tip your hand early and Google could just roll out an update to stop you before the exploit is usable by a significant number of folks.
Maybe its because the exploit was patched very early but i fail to see any benefit from rooting.
And i say this as someone that used to flash 5 ROMs a week.
This device is very limited and i doubt root would allow much

Yet... Now Team Eureka has added native screen cast. That's definitely a bonus. Say that again in a year, after the chromecast2 comes out and Google changes everything, again.

It's more like early access for that, as it should get released to all (supported configurations) once Google declares it ready.
IMO, Team Eureka's web panel adds a whole lot, but I'm the type that likes control over things like DNS and being able to remotely reboot things.
-= this post enhanced with bonus mobile typos =-
I am quite sad that only those in the US got chance to root on early devices.
Im in the UK and just bought mine but cant install custom roms.
Hope some genius finds a workaround.

It doesn't appear to have usb 3.1 so it's hardware related. I very much doubt a software update would enable it.
Do you have a link to where they reviewer mentioned it?

AFAIK, it's integrated with Call Screen. Now, the option to view the transcript or hear audio displays, where just the transcript was available before. If you don't have call screen working , you cannot view transcripts or listen to audio. If you do and pick the call up, both transcript and audio do not continue. If you are talking about recording a live conversation, I have not seen that option in v.44 nor was I aware that was planned. Did you get call screen working?

Unfortunately we aren't going to get a guide on how to enable this. It's the same case with the new file sharing (air-drop equivalent) that was "hactivated" a few days ago. It was deemed to be pointless to share how we can all get these features by the guys that figured out how to enable them. AKA they have no intention on spreading the wealth with us, so we have to just wait for Google to drop these features.

It indeed does. Let me just state that what I said was not my opinion or my thoughts, it was from one of the guys that helped figure out how to enable these. I tried appealing to him about how many of us actually can benefit from him sharing knowledge of how to enable these but I didn't get responded to. All in all, they are the ones that put the work in to figure these out, so they definitely have the right to not share if they so please. I just hope they either change their minds or someone else figures this out and decides to share with us. I've been putting a little work in here and there when I have time and have found some potentially promising leads bit we will see.
You see, I got a pixel 5a that is imported from Japan and in Japan all phones Manufacturers must have shutter sound when taking pictures and you can't disable it.
If I will root my phone I will be able to disable it, right?
No. Only with root - no. It depends on device ID (US or JP). For p5 there is patch for TWRP that spoofs ID, but there is no TWRP for 5a.
May be with some magisk module but i can't find any.
Or you can use modded Gcam.
Thank you.

No need to root, just download APK of the google camera and use it instead of the one that come with the phone.
That's what I did eventually.

it is impossible to convert 5a sun of the Japanese version into the American version, the difference is in the bands, only use the gcam mod
does the gcam mod has all the features as the built-in camera?
Faced the same issue. Like other people said, removing it from the stock Gcam probably isn't an option. Just use a compatible Gcam mod, I recommend MWP GCam for latest supported version.
As a bonus, you can use Tasker to intercept the double power button gesture to launch the modded GCam instead of stock.

Several Android versions ago I used to use Root Explorer and delete the system sound for camera shutter, which worked at the time. Maybe worth exploring?
I remembered there was a thread in the Pixel 5 community. It provides a way to permanently alter the device model code to disable these Japan-only features. Maybe it works on Pixel 5a?
It may not be simple, but can permanently eliminate similar problems.

Turn off shutter sound from pixel bought in japan
Due to pixel was not sold I was buying pixel 5 from japan. I thought if I flash a US ROM the shutter sound (japan shutter sound law) will go away but it seems like it is still going strong even after I used Cambodia sim. It was used outside japan...

could you please make the sound camera_click not empty, but with silence and not zero like it is now as it crashes some devices? Thank you! I can't attach the file here, but you can find silent 1sec ogg files online.
I can't make it work - Magisk doesn't allow me to unzip the file no idea why.
