Every couple of days, the default Google Messages app starts to respond extremely slowly. Ultimately leading to it freezing and not responding. I have to restart my phone and clear the app's cahce just to get it back in a usable state.
I have tried both the regular and beta version, but the issue still persists.
This is a new Pixel 4 XL that I started from scratch, I did not transfer any of my existing SMS, photos, etc.
I had similar issue and just had to uninstall and reinstall. I always forget that step even though I remember the other ones like force stop, clear cache, clear storage, remove from beta.

Since its a system app, do you mean you selected "Uninstall updates - Replace this app with the factory version"?

That's correct

I have had a similar issue with the Messages app freezing 3 or 4 times since buying the Pixel 4xl on black Friday
This was happening to me so I started deleting old messages. I came across one thread that would not delete so started deleting each individual message from that thread until it was deleted. This fixed my issue. I am assuming hone of the messages in this thread was corrupt.

I'm taking a poll using fix number 4 for the fresh rom 2.1.2 the apps get uninstalled but do not get removed from the uninstall application menu and when selected it force closes on me. want to know if this is just me or dose this happen to everyone.

I would try wipe and reinstall. I used fix number 4 and my htc apps have been completely removed.
I have to agree, I am also still seeing com.htc.worldclock and com.htc.lockscreen and clicking on them does in fact cause a FC. But I can confirm that those apps are indeed uninstalled, so I don't see it as a huge deal. I don't like using the manage applications menu anyways because it takes so long to compute all the sizes and load all the names, so not a huge deal for me. You think that maybe whiping the dalvik cache might fix this? Just a suggestion, not sure what it would actually do.
I don't know i will try it i just hope it not related to a bigger problem
I tried wiping via recovery and it tells me to flash via adb shell I'm currently running recovery 1.5.2
I have found that even on 1.5 if you removed a system app after it was installed on the phone that it still left a trace on the phone. the way I got around it was just by downloading the ROM unzipping it changing what I wanted to change and then rezip and resign and then flash then there is no trace at all.
im not to sure how to sign a rom is there a good page tutorial for it.\
Thank you

Wiping Dalvik doesn't fix this problem for me. I have the same issue -- "ghost" items in your Manage Applications menu that you know you have already uninstalled.
One temporary fix I've found is if you go into the Manage Apps menu and "Clear Data" in either "com.smithmicro.DM" or "Download Manager", all the ghost apps and pieces go away. But this doesn't last through a reboot -- those all show back up again after every reboot, so it's not a permanent fix.
Any others have any luck with clearing these "ghost apps/pieces" out of the Manage Applications menu?
(I'm currently using ZenEXP MT3G ROM 0.9.6.3)
I haven't looked into it, but I noticed the same problem. The app list must be cached somewhere, which is interesting because it takes a good 10 minutes to load the app list every time i go to manage applications, which is why I rarely use it.
Hi,
I have searched these forums, and others, regarding this problem but it would seem none of the problems people have when sending from Gmail is what I'm experiencing.
First off I have an Incredible S running Android Revolution HD™ 1.1.7 (can't find any issues from other people using this ROM).
Ok, so in the Gmail app I go to compose email, create it etc etc, when I go to send it (either by hitting the send button on the screen, or from Menu > Send), the send button greys out but that is it. It doesn't go to the outbox, it doesn't say 'sending' in red letters, it literally does nothing.
All other problems I have seen have been the above two, but I haven't seen a problem where it literally does nothing. After selecting send, I have left it for a good 20 minutes before and it's still not sent (the email was a couple of words, no attachments etc).
Any ideas? I have tried all the recommended 'fixes' mentioned when searching for the other problems (i.e. clear cache, data, checked sync settings, etc etc).
Thanks.
Seems to be a weird issue indeed.
have you tried uninstalling and re installing the gmail app?
it is available in the market.
if that doesn't work & assuming you have correctly installed the rom, i would believe you could try wiping everything and re-installing ARHD.
Try clearing data for Gmail App @ Settings>Applications>Manage Applications
I have already cleared data and cache many times, and I don't seem to have the ability to uninstall it, I'm guessing due to the ROM?

Are you still having this issue? I have the same problem. And it's the same from CM7 to EVO Classic. Not sure what's going on with it. Did you ever find a solution?

I've had this problem for a couple years...I had it on my HTC Desire and on my HTC Sensation. On my Sony Tablet it works just fine.
Obviously I've full wiped numerous times and tried umpteen ROMs. So strange.
I'm having an issue where NO apps are being shown for my primary account in the My Apps part of the Market. Not even paid apps. If I search for them, they show up as installed/purchased, but nothing shows in My Apps.
I've tried the usual clear data/clear cache and reboot, and the download a free app and restart. I've also even wiped and returned to stock -- no dice. Has anyone else experienced this bizarre issue before?
I am having that issue to?

Clear data/cache, reboot.
I experienced this same thing and finally realized that you can switch accounts on the market and for some reason it decided to start defaulting to another of my google accounts that I have connected to this device (but not set as the primary). This actually has persisted and I have been too lazy to look into it, I just open up market and change it to my primary account every few days to get updates....however, I have noticed that I accidentally downloaded some apps into one of the other accounts which means I have to be on that one to update it unless I uninstall and reinstall under the correct one.

Yeah, as I said in my OP I've already done the data/cache and reboot.
And yeah, I know about the accounts thing...weirdly, a few apps show for my other two accounts, but nothing at all whatsoever for my primary account which should have 100+ apps.
I can't seem to find anyone else having this problem. Weirdly again, even if I download an app using my primary account, it still shows nothing in My Apps for it.
I've got the same problem going to try removing account to resyce right now.

Ya, I have that retarded prob too. I even updated market from aptoide. I'm on 5.5.893. Gonna update to 5.7.893 pretty soon, see if that fixes it. In the meantime try appbrain for updates.

Same issue here - still no solution.
Looks like google is aware:
Applications missing from "My Apps"
We're aware of reports from some users that several applications are missing under "My Apps" on their devices, and we're currently looking into the issue.
Having this issue? Reported.

Not really bizarre, just a bug. I posted onseveral forums about this. This is a androud market place bug. You can find it posted over on Google.com in their support forums for android marketplace. Was posted originally posted on 9/13 I believe, with no fix yet. Its not limited to Bionic, virtually all new phones now see it. They have tried 2 marhetplace updates so far with no fix.
Some people report no problems ...but most posters report some kind of issue. For me, all purchased apps are visible, as are all preinstalled apps. No free apps show up.
Check out the threads over there. The fantastic Google support will dazzle you.
weird!! Hope you find a solution
Have same problem already posted on the fourm

The only solution I found was to wipe data, then re-add my Google accounts but I made a different account my primary. It doesn't matter which is primary anymore since the Market now allows you to select.

As I mentioned earlier, Google mentions this as an issue with marketplace. It was reported on 9/13 on the Google site. I 'assumed ' it was all phones.
Earlier today I setup my LG G2x andHTC G2. Both restored all apps, including paid and free apps. I FR my Bionic, and free apps were not setup. Paid apps were displayed but not installed.
Clear cache and reboot does not resolve this.
So, either something is going on with the market, and/or the Bionic.
Got the same issue.
Temporary solution - restore from TB. Works for a while then it reverts back to "no show"
Did anyone try the new marker version 3.3.12 to resolve this?

Is there any way to manually uninstall and reinstall Google Contacts on my Nexus 7? Ever since I updated, I just get the message "App stopped working" when I try to run it. I've tried stopping it, flushing the cache, signing out of my account, nothing helps.
I would appreciate any help. The tablet is rooted, so I know that opens up possible solutions.

I got it to go away by clearing the data of Contacts/Contacts Sync and then clearing data for Google Services Framework. Just go into Settings > Apps > All and they'll be in that list. It happens when you flash one rom over another one or something and they have some files that get mixed up. It seems like it's an issue that happens to a lot of people, but almost every thread has a somewhat different solution.
Hopefully my method works, if it doesn't, then reboot and go to Settings > Accounts (Google) > your email. In the upper right sign out of your account and then sign back in by going to any Google app. After a hand full of personal occurrences and many google searches, I believe this will work.
...Ok, apparently this method works somewhat. I still get the message once after every boot up, but it doesn't show up after that. The only really reliable way to get rid of it is to backup your apps (not the google ones, since they are broked) and factory reset, since that does always remove it.

After clearing the caches and restarting, my message went from "app not working" to "app not installed."

I'm trying to avoid the factory reset. I know it will work, but I consider it the option of last resort.

Hey guys, so I just got the S5 a couple of days ago and I love it. However, I'm having some problems with the push notifications of certain apps not coming through, yet they do easily on my Nexus 7. They weren't a problem on my Nexus 5, but I have no idea why it's not working properly on a brand new phone like the S5. Each of the apps, like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to name a few, are all listed to push notifications and they're set in the main Android settings, so I have no idea. Anyone else have the same kind of issues like me?
To note, I've already factory resetted my phone several times, cleaned out the data, caches, etc and still no use. I am rooted though, but I doubt that should make a huge difference, right? And right now, I'm not using Xposed framework, but before when I first noticed the issues, I was. Thanks in advance!
Taking a longshot here...but have you updated that Samsung Push Service app through the Play Store (and all other apps for that matter)?

if you used Titatium backup to restore any apps that use push, that could be your issue. I restored facebook, instagram , snapchat etc and the push never works when i restore, you need to clear the app out, and just login new for each push app.

Yeah, I did that initially, but that was the first time I got the phone. Now, I've been clearing out the caches and data for each app, uninstalling it and reinstalling it from the Play Store, but still some of the apps don't have the push capability unless I was just in the app or still in it. Some of my problem apps are GroupMe, Snapchat and Instagram. When I had my Nexus 5, that wasn't the issue at all.
Is there anything else I can do to fix this issue?

Check out TB Restore Fixer on the app store. I noticed that when I did Titanium Backup restore, some of my apps were not working correctly and I couldn't reach certain parts of my storage, etc. After I ran it, it seemed to have straightened everything out. (Requires root, of course)
Hope this fixes your problems!
Same problem
I first started having this issue a week ago. I checked all the setting, factory reset, and I ended up switching out the Galaxy 5 through Sprint yesterday. E-mails and FB messenger app was working on data while I was driving home and I thought the problem was fixed. I reinstalled all the apps I was using and over night let the phone charge. When I woke up this morning I noticed two of the folders I made were removed and a widget for S Health replaced the folders spot. Thinking nothing of it I removed the widget and made it to work this morning to find out I had 3 e-mails waiting, a notification on facebook, and another message through FB messenger that did not come through this morning. I am receieving notifications if im on wifi but not through the data now and this is a new phone. I think this may have something to the 4.4.4 release but this is bugging me. Any new suggestions?
I have seen issues with sprint where phone calls are fine but data wont work in certain areas of the city unless you turn data roaming on it apears that the signals are ok for voice but not for data in thoes areas
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Data roaming is checked on, I did go in today and saw a roaming guard on data and turned it off but nothing yet. It's been two months and my push notifications are still not working. Figure I'd come here and bump again.
Im having same issue looks like no one has a solution for this... I get all my notifications while im on wifi but soon as im on data i stop getting some notifications. Very frustrating.
