Hello, I currently own an Samsung Galaxy S9 (T-Mobile US) and I am looking to switch to the ROG Phone II in the future as I have noticed that my S9's data is being sent to China whenever I use the Device Care app. I have some questions regarding the Tencent Edition. I have questions regarding the Tencent Edition model.
1) Is the ROG Kunai Gamepad compatible with the Tencent Edition? What about the other accessories for the Elite Edition?
2) Can I use the Tencent Edition (w/ Worldwide ROM) with a T-Mobile US nanoSIM inserted?
3) Does the Tencent Edition contain the same enhancements for the compatible games from Elite Edition (aside from 120Hz)?
4) Does the Tencent Edition have microSD slot? If so, what is the max storage?
1) All accessories should work, all the ports are there
2) yes, I am using TMobile. No band 66. Use at your own risk. VoLTE works but you have to root at first to do it.
3) Software should be the same, but I have nothing to compare it with.
4) no SD slot.
GET the EU Srix Version. It has the global ROM with OTA update, the areo case and the cooler and is about $550 on aliexpress

So, I'm looking to buy ROG 2 but the variant in US is quite expensive. With taxes, it comes out to be close to $1000.
I'm looking on eBay and it seems like a lot of sellers are selling asus rog 2 tencent variant with global ROM.
Is this legit?
With global ROM, Chinese tencent variant works with all bands in US (on AT&T)?
According to all sellers, Chinese tencent variant works on GSM / AT&T and support play store and should get updates like a global variant from Asus. Is that true?
I thought Chinese tencent variant is missing some bands and it's a hardware limitation. How installing global ROM will start supporting all bands?
Just curious what variant were announced in Taiwan and India? Is it worth buying Taiwan variant? Some sellers are selling that too.
Basically I need some suggesting so I'm not mislead by sellers on eBay. I need to use it with AT&T. Will I be able to get 4G LTE? Will I be able to use AT&T hotspot?
Please advise.
I think it's true that band support is a hardware limitation. Even if it is a software change and you get the global bands, I still would only suggest buying the U.S. version (or whatever is local to your area) for two big reasons. Warranty, and customer service. Buying grey market versions off eBay will get you the phone cheaper, but you'll have no Asus warranty. You may have a warranty through the seller, but now you're dealing with someone overseas. That means you have to question the legitimacy of the seller, and there's a bigger hassle factor involved. If you have a tech support need you're unlikely to get it from Asus because you're using the phone in a way it wasn't approved for.
If you're willing to take those risks, then go for it. It's just not for me at any price.
Thank you @Mr_Mooncatt for sharing your thoughts, I appreciate it. I guess the price of a US variant is quite demotivating since it's almost double (including taxes and all) compared to a global variant. So one may question if paying double $$ justifies the value or not. That's all. Though I agree with all the points you mentioned.
Keep in mind that all the tencent versions with WW ROM is not official device from Asus.
Asus has put this as a warning on their forum, in the Asus Rog phone 2 section.
They are saying tencent version only comes with CN ROM and does not come with WW ROM and those tencent version with WW ROM is modified device and may not have valid warranty and no working FOTA.
I have bought the ROG phone 2 Tencent version. Can I:
1. Can Flash it to Android 10 ?
2. Can I use VOLTE on ATT or Tmobile?
3. Is it better to use tmobile or ATT for this phone?
4. Why is there a difference with fingerprint versions?
What is the most optimal way to use the tencent version in america?
When I looking for Asus ROG 2 Phone in EU (with 128GB) I only find the ZS660KL-1A050EU. This version of the ROG 2 don't support FDD-LTE B20 aka 800MHz which means it is useless and you need to go for the 512GB version.
Now they sell in Germany a new 128GB version I001DE. I can not find any information about this version but it looks like this version support 800MHz LTE.
If someone got this version, can u confirm this?

Is there any talk of an Rog Phone 3 Ultimate Edition version (as per the 1TB Rog 2)? Or a version like the Rog 2 'Esports' edition which came bundled with a range of accessories?

Hi I have been after the ROG Phone 3 for a few weeks now but the only versions I can find are the tencent versions does anyone know where i can purchase the global edition from with the 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage thanks in advanve
Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Australia too. JBHifi has it
For Malaysia you have to be careful. The 8/128 and 8/256 Strix versions are allegedly Version B, while the rest are supposedly version A. Asus HK at least acknowledged that my 16/512 set is Version A according to the SKU.
Apparently Asus' Marketing in Malaysia is different compared to other countries, Strix phones are lower end while the proper ROG phones are higher end.
I hear that Asus Singapore only sells Version A tho.
