Apps killing overnight - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

Hello, does anyone of you guys have an issue with apps killing overnight?
Now I have zenfone 6 and they told me on their forum that this jus just android 10 thing and it is normal that my phone kills my apps night by night leaving me with 3 app alive usually no matter what I turn on and off in battery saving and ram options oO.
So I figure out that pixel subforum will be the best place to ask about it. Thank you for any response .

Those Chinese phones with those Chinese ROMs have aggressive app management. Even turning off battery optimization and things like that don't seem to really help. I've had my share of Chinese phones and this was beyond frustrating.

And now do you have pixel or some other phone on android 10 and can you confirm that your apps stay alive after a night?

I have a P4 and have no problems with such behavior. Perhaps this zenfone comes with an agressive Kernel, or you can check in Developer Options to ensure Background Process Limit is set to Standard Limit and not specified to something like at most 3 processes.

Have the Pixel 4 XL. Everything seems fine. Apps stay in the background. Haven't really tested if apps stay open over night. My issue was apps getting closed off within minutes of the phone going to sleep. Some apps even required to re login.
Hope I'm answering w what you are asking?

Is my galaxy note normal?

Hey guys just got my galaxy note 2 days ago. And i've noticed the battery is insanely terrible. I don't know if this is normal among all galaxy note users but well i'll post the pics and let you decide. Basically my Galaxy note sits on my table doing nothing while i use my galaxy s2. So i doubt its due to me fiddling with it.
Please i beg of you someone help me perhaps changing my kernel or something, from what i see alot of the kernels are unstable. Thanks a bunch guys the pics have been attached btw.
Looking at the image, you do have WiFi and constantly with roughly half the time with the phone awake, whether you use it or not just having the WiFi switched on is gonna have an affect on the battery.
Looks like something is keeping your phone awake. If your phone sits there and does nothing with the screen off, I got almost 2 days out of it.
Plus is your phone rooted or stock?

My phone is completely stock FOB
Ah ok that reminds me i saw a video on youtube a few guys said that the galaxy note if running on wifi really slams the battery. Ok noted.
Also one more issue i have an app killer running on my phone if you noticed at the top. Once in a while i clear the memory and it says i got like 500+mb of free memory, then for some reason later when i power on the phone and clear memory again it says i only got like 200+mb of free memory. The usage of memory seems to fluctuate randomly any idea on this?
You could try and download betterbatterystats and see what is keeping your phone from sleeping. The pictures you put up suggest that your phone is not sleeping during standby.
100% wifi fault, install GreenPower and your problems will be gone.
One more thing to disable is the voice talk wake up command:
Double click the home button, press menu then settings, scroll to "Wake up Command" and if it's enabled disable it.
after making those two changes I've gone from 8 hours of moderate use to almost 20.
Good luck!

WHY are you using an app killer? The result is that it (the app killer) kills your open apps and then Android will start them up again, and it will use more battery since it has to start apps over and over again. What's the point of having 1GB RAM if you're not going to use it?!
Android can manage the RAM itself. Android is not Windows.

Thank you very much my friends, my utmost gratitude. Will be running with no wifi, no app killer, no wake up command from that voice thing and with green power premium on. Shall see the improvements today, i must add galaxy note is such a beautiful piece of art.
Yeah, sorry about sounding like an ass, but i'm just sick of people using app killers when they don't need to

Note 4 T-Mobile 32GB Random Rebooting/Slow

Hello my Note 4 is randomly rebooting all the time (it occurs randomly) and is slow (sometimes) when I use apps like messages, browsing the web etc...
I'm on the 6.0.1 marshmallow
I installed the clean master and battery saver apps and things were alittle better but it still is slow and restarts plus those apps are filled with spam and virus links so they will be deleted.
What are my options here to get this note running like new again?

First of all you delete apps like clean master and battery saver cuz this app killing your processor ram and battery .android 6.0 is very well optimized and it can handle everything without any 3rd party app. Just make factory reset, disable apps you dont use ,do not install junk or ram cleaning apps or even battery saving apps, android Marshmallow allready has doze feature that save battery while you are not using phone and goes to deep sleep. go to settings/battery/detail and you will see all apps are in doze.

Any answers on the gentleman's inquiry though? I have a T-mobile Galaxy Note 4, and after having the phone for 1 year and a half, all of a sudden it started acting up last Thursday while I was running my stock 5.0.1, I had it rooted and TWRP on it since I bought it. The phone was a GREAT acquisition and I've always been an Android guy and started to learn about flashing, rooting and XDA since I had my S, S2. I thought that by simply upgrading my 910T to the new MM 6.0.1 everything was going to be taken care of and fixed, but boy was I so wrong.
Could you shed some light on this issue on this great phone?

I think he answered pretty well. You should understand that these phones are, in essence, small computers. And like a computer, the phones will become fragmented and bog down overtime. The solution is a complete format of internal storage; wipe everything, format, cache and start from scratch. Odin is the best option so learn to use it if you haven't already.

Thanks for your reply, however I asked the question to the gentleman as he only said to remove all of those junk third party apps as they were more harmful than anything else. I appreciate the lecture on what constitutes a phone, but I am very aware of it as well as being comfortable of the use of Odin and the rest of the steps. I have already done all that you suggested and the issues still occur after a week. Once again, I appreciate your reply.

True! I stand corrected sir. I appreciate your assistance.
Hey guys, so today I tried a different battery cause my was bad and overheating and I can tell this one is good because it also is charging faster than before.
Now I did delete those apps clean master and battery saver like I said I would but I'm still getting random rebooting and slowness, one example would be I was typing a text and the phone took awhile to catch up to my typing and suddenly it restarted itself.
I'm not rooted and my rom is stock. Noticed today that my water indicator underneath the battery has triggered.
So I'm still looking for options...let me know, thanks.

Poor ram management

I don't know if it's because pie update but this phone can't keep 6 apps open in the background, it feels like a 1 GB of RAM type of phone, anyone facing the same problem?
yeah it's correct it closes everything even simple apps like message, phone dialer ! after a while you left your device. very poor management.
yeah it sucks
And if the phone keeps multiple apps running on background, you will cry for poor battery. Yay
This is seriously bad, even my friend's Mi A2 can keep PUBG in background after 3 hours. I switch to WhatsApp to reply for one chat then I had to reload it. Wtf
I think I found the problem and solution, check this link out https://dontkillmyapp.com/nokia

[Q] Horror: Battery Drain on EXYNOS N9 - any insights?

Hi there!
I know that this is not the first thread regarding the EXYNOS battery drain issue, but as a matter of fact, I didn´t find any hints on how to tackle it on all the forums out there. I constantly get something between 2 to 4 hours of SOT with my Note 9 and I guess I am right to say that this is far beyond strange. My 3 years old Oneplus 3T still achieves something around 6 hours - with the very same bevavior and a way smaller battery.
I´m a standard user without any special usage behavior - mainly messaging, mail checks, some notes here and there and some spotify. Dual Sim active, WiFi active, AOS active, good wifi & data connection.
Here are some repeated measurements (samsung, gsam):
EDIT: Exchanged Screenshots, see below
This cannot be normal - and as I´m obviously not alone with this issue, I´m super grateful for every meaningful discussion on the why and how to tackle. I don´t think that any behavior recommendations would be helpful here ("disable wifi if not needed", "reduce screen brightness to a minimum" etc). I don´t want to mess around with greenify via root or xposed module etc either. This is a 1000€ device and it performs much worse than my old OnePlus.
What do you guys think? is there anything i´ve missed? Are there any hints on how to hunt down some main suckers? Did anyone with an exynos device and the same issue get out of this mess?

His links in a post within the real life review forums works.
If I was OP, I'd start from scratch. I'd also be checking standby drain V SOT. Put device in airplane mode and check overnight how much battery consumption has occured. Then same with airplane mode off. Within gsam app, also check what apps are using what the most via the pull down menu, pic attached.
Also try putting to sleep all apps that dont require your notifications all the time.

Strange with your SoT.. I tried a few things that helped me really. Just look into your Devoptions and navigate to ''Backgroundprocesses'' & ''Backgroundchecking for Apps'' Read this in antoher Thread here..so if you deactivate things like Bixby or similar..my SoT push up to nearly 7 Hrs and my overall runtime of the device is between 2 or 3 Days, depend on Usage. Bevore i get only 2-3 Hrs SoT and overall runtime about 1.5 Days. So maybve it will help you with this 2 settings in Devoptions.
If you cant find it, i can attach Screenshots, wich 2 Options i mean. But my Systemlanguage is German, just saying. But if you want, i upload a Screenshot. Want to say that the impact for Sot and overall runtime was amazing. You can feel it just after deacitivating a few things, if you look on your Batterybar. Other Option is to clear Cache via Recovery. But this helps not everytime and if you done a factoryreset so far, i dont think this will help.
*Edit* Oh forget to say, you can also put your Always On on activate by taping on screen. So this save me a few % Battery aswell !
Hope this will help you :good:
Heyhey Treasarion! Thx for your reply, very much appreciated! Hey, feel free to add your Screenshots, because - as a matter of fact - my Screenshots are in German as well .
I know about the impact of the AOD (but anyway, thx for the hint!), but based on my experience, that's just approx 1 % per hour (at max!), so this "macht die Suppe nicht fett". There must be another issue....
Hey would be cool to see your recommendations!

Okay i give you a Screenshot wich 2 Options i mean, and 2 Screenshots wich things i personaly deactivated and are safe to deactivate. So you dont must research by yourself :highfive:
'Edit' Oh hope you can see something on my last 2 Screens..maybe they are too large ?! And for your usage case i recommend you to look exactly what you need and what not. Want to say maybe you can deactivate more then in my personal setup or less, depend on your usagecase. But i can say, that everything work perfect for me with this list of apps i deactivated for backgroundcheck or put in standbymode.
Hey! Thx for providing me with your suggestions - just updated my setup accordingly - will keep you posted!
Hi OP.
Any update on the battery performance?
Hey there,
sadly not - honestly, I'm a bit frustrated at the moment and i dont really know what to do.
What you can see in the screenshot is my exceptional use of Whatsapp yesterday evening, but still: no matter what I do, I can literally watch the battery go down.

Do you use Android 9 Pie ? Or Oreo ?
Did it came with Pie ? Or did it came with Oreo and Updated later per OTA to Pie ?

Actually - i dont know bought the Note 9 used, as always and it already came with pie (to me!). I bought it in January, the original receipt is dated on September 18.
Maybe a downgrade to oreo via Odin is recommended to see if that helps
I mean : You tryed anything else i think
Uuhh what the...did you know that spotifiy is using the accelerator like - all the time? Just stumbled upon this in BBS and a minute of research has shown that this is a know issue since years.
Will deinstall Spotify just for a day and see if it helps. Is just had a day with Bluetooth of - no effect.
EDIT: added 2 more Screenshots. One shows a service calles com.google. android.gms, which I guess is related to play Services. Numbers of alarms and corresponding wakeups are quite high as well...

Question OnePlus 10 very warm when using

Hi everyone. I just got my OnePlus 10 Pro and ever since I had it it's been running very warm when using I checked a few apps and they all showed that the battery was running at 42° Celsius which is keeping the device warm basically all the time when I'm using it. is anyone else having this problem? This is really concerning for me.
I'm unable to update to the latest version of the formula that's available because OnePlus seems like they don't release full ROMs for the OnePlus 10. What's up with that?
Try temporarily disabling Google play Services...
Strange, I've thrown everything at this phone and it's never got above 34.
Not once, maybe the heatsink is a little away...

It's burning up the battery too. I'm familiar with Samsung's and this is a common problem with them. The solution is to optimize the phone unless it's a purely firmware or hardware issue.
Turn off global power management.
Find the power hogs and deal with each on a case by case basis. Either by changing settings or disabling/uninstalling them or by using work arounds.
Keep trash social media apps like FB, WhatsApp, etc off the phone. Cloud storage tend to be a battery sucker, one reason I use SD cards instead.
Try using factory loaded app versions, update one at a time if at all and see what results.
Once you get it optimized I would avoid app and especially firmware updates/upgrades. These can and do break things. In your case a firmware update may correct issues on your variant so consider wisely and don't update blindly.
Anything from Pie up is relatively secure in actual use... useless you do something stupid. Security even using Pie simply isn't an issue. Updates have cost me far more time then any malware to fix. In the last 2 years no malware repairs or factory resets on this stock N10+ running on Pie.
Mine get extreme warm too, specially when its charging.
I've also noticed some heat when Warp Charging!
