TWRP bootloop after MIUI rom update, help me please ! - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Hi guys,
I followed all the tuto to get a wonderful Mi 9T Pro Global rooted, but for fews updates, on MIUI 11, I saw intempestives reboots, with an error message about "location" problem...
I decided to downgrade to MIUI 10 withit I haven't these issues, from miui.eu, but after the update by TWRP, logo Mi but no boot, just return to TWRP !
I tried everything to reflash other, but same issue !
What can I do, if it's possible without erase any data please ...

maybe you have dm verity and/or force encrypt disabled (both or only one of them) before upgrade, if it's your case try to flash this from TWRP: https://zackptg5.com/downloads/Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_12.27.2019.zip
today updated to 10.0.4.0 and have the same problem as you. in my case have dm verity and force encrypt disabled (both) before the upgrade. if you only have one of them disabled, you have to rename the zip file with the DISABLED option you have.
---------- Post added at 07:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:26 PM ----------
before flashing anything, always have a twrp backup. do it before flashing anything. so if you plan to flash the file i've been talking before, backup everything first.

Thanks for the tip, but it doesn't work.
I install your zip successfully, then I flash a firmware, no bootloop on recovery but stay at Mi logo until I manually switch off.

Do you format (not wipe) data partition before reflashing roms?
I haven't flashed new rom in a while and I had your problem recently. Turned out I forgot to format data.

No wipe before flash.
But never necessary before when I updated the firmware all the weeks...

Just to say you I solved the problem by flash the complete tgz firmware, but all my data has been erased.

Will format data before installing (updating from miui 12 weekly) reset the phone?
I cannot update via the updater app, it just says that all mirrors are busy. So I have just downloaded a stable MIUI 12 now and put the install zip on my phone. Should I flash this from the update app (Choose package) or directly from TWRP (with a format data before?).
Last time I did an update from the update app, my phone was stuck in a bootlopp and I really dont want to reset the phone again having to install every app and stuff again,

[HELP] Bootloop with any Oreo Rom...

Hi,
Since few days, I'm facing bootloop when I install an oreo custom rom on my santoni (3gb/32gb)
I tried every step :
from Miui eu rom, flashing twrp by nikesh, firmware 34, oreo rom, gapps...
Full wipe, etc...
I even tried to erase the whole memory of the phone.
Every time, I get bootloop...
Can't understand because I already installed some oreo roms in a recent past, but now, I'm lost !
What can I do ?
Thanks for your help.

Try full wipe, flash ROM ,gapps ,magisk and reboot.
Still bootloop.
I tried what you said, full wipe, flash rom, gapps, magisk then reboot.
Really don't know why it doesn't work anymore with oreo custom roms.
Try this!
-Your data and cache Partition must be in ext4 format.
-Enter in twrp recovery wipe Dalvik, system, data and cache Partition.
-reboot to recovery
-install just the ROM zip without gapps ir another addon
- reboot to system
If the boot is not sucessfull, reboot to twrp and wipe data Partition only.
-if the boot is sucessfull, reboot to twrp install gapps and reboot to system again.
After the boot if you want to configure Your Google account reboot to twrp and swipe to factory reset and no more!
- reboot
Ps- this last boot takes a Little more time dont sorry
Hope i helped

Hello,
once installation of new ROM done, install Gapps as well. once it done?
Here to go >>
Twrp > Advanced > tools > Disable verify. once done, wipe caches/dalvick and then reboot from there (you would see end of disabling verify)
But, I'm not responsible if your phone went Brick at any cause, All the best...

Thanks for all your help.
For the moment, I'm tired to try every day since weeks.
So I keep staying with a Nougat Rom, which is working, soon I'll try again with an Oreo Rom !
Thanks a lot again !
EDIT : @Speaker87 :
your solution is fine !
Except the last "After the boot if you want to configure Your Google account reboot to twrp and swipe to factory reset and no more!
- reboot", which gives me bootloop.
If I don't swipe to factory reset, Play store gives me FC... Google Play services too.
EDIT 2 :
Strange, I have bootloop but can hear the startscreen sound (if you understand my bad english...)

In that case , in the last step, instead of swipe to factory reset, format only data Partition, and reboot!
Try that
If after the reboot , you are in bootloop, reboot again to twrp and format data Partition again!
Thanks again for help.
Do you think the problem could come from Gapps ?
And also I'm using the double sim.
Before, I had a sd card, which had the roms (zip) on it.
Could the problem come from this too ?

Today, i flashed a new Oreo ROM! I passed all the difficulties that you already described! I remember that i read Somewhere in xda to remove sdcard and sim trata, on the last step (after flash ROM, boot, flash gapps boot, format data Partition, and then remove sim tray and boot again) . The boot occurs normally, 2-3 minutes later Google configuration wizard pops on screen. I think the problem is Oreo adjacent, or a encription problem! Don't know exactly...
Try to install micro gapps instead of pico apps
If the phone starts make your settings an go to Recovery.
Backup your data.
Make factory reset
Install rom
Now you can install pico gapps
Restore data
Restart
I have the same problem ,
with all of the oreo roms ,
if i do not flash the gapps phone does not bootloop
i tried pico/mini/nano gapps
Hi
So, do you think it could be ok if I flash micro or stock gapps ?
Like @sptepacate, if I don't flash gapps, the phone boots.
If I flash gapps then, the phone boots but google account bootloops...
Hurray !
I followed every step of @Speaker87, with extract of sim tray...
Now, I'm using AEX oreo 8.1 on santoni....
Thanks a lot for help !
Thank you , worked for me too for Nitrogen OS
Glad i could help!
Best way is :
- Wipe - Format data - type "yes" - ok.
- and then install newest TWRP
i've tried all the steps provided but i still get bootloop

Only 8GB (out of 32) after installing any Pie ROM, what am I doing wrong?

Hi, yesterday I decided to give Pie a try coming from the current MIUI beta release. So I booted into TWRP (the official one, and it's not installed into the device either), cleaned everything save for the microSD card and flashed one of them. It could have been Syberia, Bliss, Bootleggers or RR, I went through them all at some point.
Rebooting brought me to a working system, but for some reason the OS thinks there's only 8GB out of the 32 the device has for internal memory. I just noticed because today I woke up to a low space warning, otherwise it would have gone unnoticed.
I tried reverting back to MIUI beta and flashing anew, but the same thing happened. Has anybody come across this? Is there anything else that needs to be done, like repartitioning or something, to use a Pie distribution?
Thanks for your time, it's much appreciated.
Try flashing miui again with fastboot mode then unlock bootloader then install orangefox custom recovery
Then install a rom without wiping vendor.
---------- Post added at 11:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:33 AM ----------
By the way
Pie roms are treble supported.
So use treble supported custom recovery only

I assume you are flashing miui with twrp. flash latest miui 10 stable from miflash with clean_all option. then flash custom rom.

If official twrp doesnt support treble. how does it boots to the system ?
Check first internal storage data you have, such as you have downloaded ROM(s) Gapps or any other huge files.
Clear cache from storage since you are on MIUI it is easy to clean up in storage sometimes cached files goes in GB.
Run storage cleaner from security app and see which are huge files takes space in your phone. i remember when i use to use MIUI when flashing MIUI though recovery it would create a 3+ GB of file(don't know why) which wasnt even showed in file manager unless it scanned through security app (cleaner). cleaner shows big files in phone.
other than that i would recommend backup first your all data and make clean flash formatting everything once via mi flash tools it will fix your problem. and then go for custom ROM of your choice(yes, you'll need to unlock bootloader again since mi flash tools will locks bootloader but it'll get unlocked easily since you've already unlocked it and later does not requires unlocking permissions)

Disable encryption + DM-verity, install Magisk +Root+ Xposed

Hey everyone, i want to root my phone with magisk and install Xposed. I also want to disable forced encryption as well as DM verity on my phone. Can someone provide the correct steps to do it. I am on latest may security patch.
So what i did was:
1) temporary booted the twrp. Flashed Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt Disabler to remove forced encryption. Without rebooting, flashed the latest magisk zip.
2) Reboot. Device gets stuck in bootloop.
3) Booted into recovery and factory reset. Restart and phone booted up properly
However when i open magisk it says upgrade tp additional magisk requires additional setup, so it asks me to download the files.(This message only appears when i flash the Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt disabler, if i don't flash the Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt disabler, magisk installs perfectly fine without any errors)
4) I download the files and again bootloop. Again factory reset from recovery.
Please someone provide steps to disable forced encryption + DM verity as well as install magisk with xposed framework.

To make this thing work is to Format Data for the first time after installing the Rom. After formatting data flash disable force encryption.
You'll have to flash everytime you flash a new rom.
The bootloop is happening because you device can't read the Data partition because its encrypted.
I am using the same method and it's working fine for me.

Bro i used this file but the phone is still encrypted. I did the following steps:
1) Flashed the stock rom with june update
2) Booted into TWRP and did a format data
3) Flashed the given zip file
4) Reboot
Unfortunately it still shows encrypted. I tried flashing the zip file first and format data after that but still no decryption. Am i missing a step or something?

Best thing to do is start from scratch
Use this guide to recover it
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
You need to view this page in desktop mode, if using a mobile browser.
In step 5, change the flash option at the bottom of the Mi Flash Tool to the 'clean all' option
I assume from it being K20 Pro and with a global ROM, that you have an Indian phone.
Get the latest Indian fastboot ROM from here
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/raphael/
You want the Redmi K20 Pro Indian Stable Fastboot ROM.

After flashing TWRP use the following command to boot into TWRP
Code:
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
Do this immediately after flashing TWRP, whilst still in fastboot mode and connected to the PC.
This will boot into your newly installed TWRP.
Now flash Magisk.
Get Magisk from here
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/tag/v20.4
Always get Magisk from the official github repository, so you know you have a genuine unmodified version.

Did you WIPE data or FORMAT data?
It is also clearly distinguished in TWRP, one option is called format and the other wipe
Two different things, for flashing different ROM etc, it is required to FORMAT data (wiping only removes files and folders but keeps previous filesystem with its previous encryption, formating is required to let the new ROM access storage)

You need to fully extract the ROM. It is a Unix/Linux zipped tar file, which needs unzipping twice in Windows. After the first time you should have a *.tar file, which you then unzip again. After fully extracting you should point the Mi Flash Tool to the folder that was extracted.

do not panic , it is a very simple problem , you don't need to flash fastboot rom , just do the following:
away
1. Go into recovery ,
2. flash Magisk uninstaller , this will restore your boot.img
3. reboot your phone and enjoy.
It will boot normally do not worry.

[Q] TWRP - Unable to create folder /data/media/0/TWRP...

Sorry I know this has been discussed in other forums on xda but I didn't find a solution in my case. I unlocked the bootloader of my Mi 9T Pro (didn't have to wait it just happened immediately). Flashed latest TWRP (twrp-3.5.2_9-0-raphael.img) from fastboot. Before wiping and ROM flashing I wanted to backup my device. TWRP gives me this message - Unable to create folder /data/media/0/TWRP
Tried without fingerprints and lockscreen password (pattern) but nothing changed. And after restarting, stock recovery gets back. How do I make it permanent?
edit - tried with format data - still encrypted.....
I'm on stock MIUI Global ROM 12.5.1
Finally, I decided to go for Oragnefox recovery, flashed it from fastboot (extracted recovery.img from the zip file first) and thus data formating removed encryption. Now flashing pixel experience. Thank you all for your time, if mods decide the can delete this thread.
