Can't connect to any wifi after upgrading to android 10 - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Hello,
I upgraded my stock MI2 to android 10 and now I can't connect to any wifi. I can see the wifi, but I always get "Failed to save network".
Resetting all network settings didn't do anything...
Any options besides full reset?
Thanks!

I've got similar problem, can't connect to my home WiFi, but at work and at friends home WiFi works well. Network factory reset didn't help.

The problem seems to be at the handshake WPA2 at the moment with Android 10. Change your network to WPA and it should work perfectly. Let's hope this gets patched soon.

same for me. device also freezes quite often, feels like an early beta.
thanks for the hint!

Exactly the same issue for me;
* As soon as I updated to Android 10 on a stock Mi A2, my work, home and public WiFi access failes with "Failed to connect to Network".
* Changing wifi SSID settings results in a "Failed to Save Network" error.
I will try downgrading the home security to WPA.

Honestly downgrading the security isn't an option for me. Can I roll-back to android 9 somehow?

I have the same issue. Channing the WiFi network's security settings has no effect. Anyone find a solution? Has anyone tried a factory reset?

after update my MAC has changed and by default it uses dynamic MAC address regarding security. I changed it to static MAC and checked my MAC filtering option once again to ensure the right MAC is set

In my case, I can connect to the home network but not the work network (Eduroam network).
I have also changed the MAC address from random to the one corresponding to the device but it did not solve the problem.

have same issue after Android 10 upgrade, any idea how to fix this wifi issue?

Did your router hide SSID? if so, manual input your SSID and type of network and the password. At the very bottom you'll see Advance Settings then chose Hidden Network to "Yes". If still not working probably there's was a problem during update installation. My Mi A2 doesn't have any problem after Android 10 Update.

after trying many things, only reset to factory settings finally fixed my wifi issue

Update from Late March 2020

Tried a number of things, including resetting all data stored settings, dropping down to WPA and even open (unsecured) network. Still no WiFi connectivity. WiFi apps such as WiFi analyser can see and engage with APs, but not connect.
The "Failed to save Network" error I suspect may be the issue ... each time I try to connect it asks for a password each and every time.
I just updated to the A2 March 2020 update, and this has not fixed the issues. Definitely happened immediately after the original Android 10 update.
I'll have to wait until things settle a little, then try a factory reset. Or a new phone

did you try reset complete phone to factory setting? it should help

I'm with the same problem! I just upgraded to Android 10 today and I can't connect to any wi-fi network!!!! I tried to restart my Xiaomi Mi A2, restart my modem, restart internet settings, add wifi manually, and other things and none worked

Same problem here after March update

My Wife's A2 just received the OTA Update to Android 10, which already contains the March update, and the same issue happened. Tried all the tips, nothing worked (changing the MAC to "Device Mac", resetting WiFi connections, Using static IPs).
The only thing that worked for me was setting my WiFi network (on my router) to use WPA-PSK(TKIP) + WPA2-PSK(AES) instead of just WPA2-PSK(AES) as it was configured before.
It seems there's a bug when using WPA2 (or AES).

Factory Reset fixed it for me.
After spending hours trying various options. I just did a factory reset and my Wifi has returned. What a performance, but wish I had done it earlier. Although it's a pain having to set up everything again, it wont take me as long as I have spent already trying different things.

Same issue here with the Android 10 update in April 2020..
No wifi networks seem to be saved and connecting simply does not work, I have a open wifi near me (payed hotspot) but a 'cannot connect' error pops up instantly when tapping it.
My home network asks for password but after entering it I also get the 'cannot save wifi network' and 'cannot connect' errors.
Pretty lame, I was planning a factory reset anyway but having to rush it sucks.
Will post results of factory reset here, but might take me some days. Especially with all the 2FA misery.

Wifi problems

I am unable to get Wifi to connect to any network! The device shows me the available network and everything, but it says it's connecting to them and then it just says they're available. It was working fine for 2 weeks on this rom Ultimate-X2.V9 and just stopped yesterday. Its a Kaiser
Any solutions? Suggestions?
if they are not your wifi router networks they could have added mac filtering to keep you out
otherwise maybe their firmware require an update or they just need a restart all the connects handheld devices make often confuse the dhcp in the router
I've got the same problem, but they are my networks, and they've all been restarted.
One network especially doesn't have mac filtering applied, but has SSID hidden, which is fine, but it still won't connect.
I have been dicking about with changing Roms recently, but am back on the stock HTC rom, so wondering if something could've messed up the Wifi abilities.
Thanks,
Hi,
I have the same problem on my kaiser, with every rom I've tried.
On a previous rom, I found a reg key which prevented wifi to connect, and it resolved the problem, but now I can't remember what the key is...
Wifi APs are detected, identification is sent, PPC asks for the wep/wpa key, identification seems to succeed, sometimes I even get the right IP, but nothing happens, and the PPC stops the connection to the AP after a few seconds...
Very annoying
I should add, all routers in use are fully up-to-date with their firmwares, and recently I've been receiving a message saying "Shell32.exe" issue.
I get the option to send the report to M$, however the ironic problem with that is I need the network to use it!
I've just flashed my phone back to the original Orange ROM, so I'll see how that goes now, but when I did manage to connect to my home network, it would connect, allow me to even refresh my IP, but not allow me to access any websites, use any installed applications etc.
same problem
but it happend after i installed moorhunn.
Little better after i uninstalled it but my kaiser still drop the connection in a few seconds and want to turn on the 3g connection instead...
I getting an error message that says"no active programs is started".

[Q] WiFi problem: stuck on "getting IP address"

I have had my Tab for 2 weeks now.
At home I had no problem to connect to my WiFi network for 1 week: then suddenly the Tab would not connect and would remain stuck on “getting IP address…”.
I changed from WPA to WEP to WPA2 PSK with no luck
But if I go to a static IP, then I have no problem to connect.
On my office “public” WiFi network, exactly the same problem: it worked for a week and then bingo stuck on “getting IP address…”. Again going to static IP solved the connection problem.
My question is: how do you delete a network from the list? It seems to me that the Tab keeps an IP address in memory and if ever that address is taken by another device, it gets stuck!
Any advice would be appreciated.
I had this exact same issue on the same day I bought my Sprint Galaxy Tab (11/14). I did a hard reset that afternoon, and I haven't experienced the issue since. I'd already had all of my apps downloaded, and settings tweaked, so hard resetting was kind of annoying. I hope this doesn't come up again.
Yep sounds familiar, my Thomson Speedtouch 780i runs on a old firmware which gives me same issue with the Tab, had to run with no security. If you decide to run with no security turn off broadcasting..or update firmware/router..
My router is quite recent and has the latest firmware.
All my toys (iPad, Dell Streak, HD2 together with 3 PCs) connect without any problem.
The Tab had no problem either for a week.
Then for unknown reason no way to connect unless using a static IP.
And as I have not found a way to delete the network in memory (short of doing a hard reset)I am stuck.
And now same problem arises with office netxork:-(
Yeah just do a factory reset in privacy settings i think

My Tab is doing the same thing now. I can't do a hard reset....is there another solution?
Ugh, I have the same issue! Had it for 2 days and all of the sudden it's stuck on Getting IP address from... Resetting to factory defaults was depressing. I wish there was another way!
It also happened to me when I was on vacation at my relatives home. The tab would work for a day or two and then be stuck at that message. I had no issues with doing a factory reset as it was still new. But then I started using the static IP trick and that worked. Now I'm back at home and I don't have this issue at all. Been using it for a week with my wifi and all is well.
Nothing was actually working: restarting the router, forgetting the network, creating the network manually, changing the authentication method, etc.
I'm sure its was an issue with the router at my relatives home, but still why was my Nexus one and Laptop connecting with no problem???
For those who are having the problem, use a static IP for the time being, you don't have to reset.
-Gus
I ended up switching to Channel 1 on the router at home, and haven't had any problems since. Chose Channel 1 after running WiFi Analyzer.
having this same problem. I've messed with WEP vis WPA and tried static IP. Using a verizon fios router. any help?
Bah, it happened again! Now I really dont want to reset
Same issue here ...
I can get WIFI at Starbucks but not at home ( Open-WRT on linksys )
I wonder if it depends on SIM card being inserted?
Mine is a Verizon FioS router as well, at work. Can get on fine at home or anywhere else. My iPad had a problem here forgetting the network but I could at least reconnect. This is doing exactly like you guys.
I wouldn't even care that much except when I'm inside the office I can only pull in Edge data. Ugh.
I had to change wireless settings on my Linksys - most changes were to disable some fanny things like "afterburner" - and setup wap2 for security to have a stable wifi.
I've had the same problem with my TMobile Galaxy Tab. All I do is to turn off Wifi in the Settings app, then turn it on again. I am usually able to snarf an IP address straight away after that.
It also helps to just turn the device on and then off again. it boots so fast that it isn't too annoying.
I had similar problem at home. My DHCP server had wrong time set. After setting the time on DHCP server correctly everything is back to normal.
i hav a tab on tmobile love it not sure if i had the same issuse as u guys tho the issuse i had was it would work without any problems im talkin about wifi then the next day the wifi doesnt want to lock onto the wifi it would search then drop to start serchin again , now wat i learned is sum apps require wifi to work because high data at the same time it changes sumthing in ur wifi settings after using the app the first time which would require u to master reset the device to resolve the issue the program that was doin it for me was frostwire
same here
my version of the same problem appeared when i changed the static IP of my home router (AVM Fritz!Box 7170). before that i always got a dynamic IP through DHCP on my galaxy tab.
After changing the router IP i only could connect with a static IP.
if i use a different WIFI network instead, DHCP is working as expected.
in my opinion the problem is with the firmware storing the network settings and with no possibility of deleting it completely. a hard reset cannot be the solution...
does anybody of you know if this problem occurs on other froyo-based devices also? is there a way of deleting network settings in a working way?
Had the same problem, EU TAB white Stock 2.2 rooted spot connecting to my main Wifi but connects to 3 or 4 other dhcp APs.
Have a htc Desire whit stock 2.2 + rooted and never had that problem.
In the end i hardreset Tab and no problems 1week and counting.
EDIT
FUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Happen again... im not going to hardreset again, im looking for a more permanent solution
Had the same problem. I have the Verizon FIOS router. The solution is actually easy. Just drain the battery of the Tab. Charge it to full and turn the Tab on. I think the Tab really "forgets" the old network after this kind of restart. No need to reset your Tab to the factory settings.

Not working: 802.1X / WPA2 / PEAP TTLS MSCHAPV2

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to a WiFi network that is protected with WPA2 with PEAP / TTLS.
It simply is not working. No problems connecting with my HTC Desire though.
Anybody experiencing the same bug? I already installed the required root certificates, tried various combinations of user account / password. The thing is, that the network is provided by my university (Eduroam if you are familiar with that) and it is very annoying that I have to fall back to HSDPA consuming my data quota.
Cheers,
chross
Normally with eduroam wifi there isn't wpa2 or other key. Just connect your phone to it, open your browser and you will be redirect to the website of your university and then you can log with your id.
Envoyé depuis mon XT890
Yes!! This is the exact same problem I'm having with my university wifi
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33962871&postcount=2
I'd configure the settings on my uni wifi choosing PEAP and then MSCHAPV2 and put in my log in username and password according to the instruction and as soon as press connect or save it looses the signal immediately to very low and never connects. We also have eduroam as an alternative they tried that and same problem just doesn't want to connect.
It works perfect on my htc one x. I'm beginning to believe the phone has a bug.
It does have a bug. It doesn't connect to 802.11 n!
My problem was solved by reconfiguring my AVW Fritz!Box 7270 to 802.11 b+g only and limit the phones wifi frequency to 2,4ghz only. You can find that in advanced wifi configuration.
I'm lucky i only recognized this bug in my own wifi network and not others i don't have admin rights for...
eduroam works for me with PEAP/TTLS but I guess it's 802.11g
I'm on the 40002 rom, but worked also on the 31006
After receiving the 4.0.4 update yesterday, WiFi now works flawlessly.
Cheers,
chross
Hi there,
I got the same problem with my university network in hamburg. I updated the razor to android 4.0.4 (Stock-Rom: 81.5.40002.XT890.Retail.en.EU), also the phone is rooted but still not working. Our IT advices to use WPA2 Enterprise TTLS/PAP authenthication in combination with a t-com root certificate. Every time i safe these setting the wifi signal drops as told by previous posters and the connection fails. When i enter the settingspage again, all settings are reverted to default. This also happens, while trying to connect to eduroam
any further advices?
Thanks in advance!
I have no problems connecting to eduroam at Braunschweig and other citys. Maybe you can visit the IT Desk at your university?

Yep, me and and a fellow student went there and told them about the problem. But they also gave up, after trying about an hour or so. It seems to be a general problem in the used android build, at least there are a lot of post reporting this at the google code repo -> code.google. com /p/android/issues/detail?id=15631 (sorry for that but I'm to new here to post links). I'll try the provided tips like changing the wpa_suplicant file tomorrow and report the results. Seems to be strange issue, if it works for you (and probably others), because a fellow student got the same Phone and has the same issues
Thought I'd just give an update as I have the same issue
Motorola knows about it, it's been reported to them before and said it'll be fixed with the next update.
Working smooth here with WPA2-Enterprise, PEAP and MSCHAPv2. Using it every day.
But I'm not using TTLS, you might want to disable that if you don't have a valid certificate for your mobile/user.
Also important, fill out the "anonymous user" field with your username. Depending on the RADIUS configuration of your IT this might be required.
[edit]
Just checked my mobile. I don't use a Phase 2 authentication, only EAP = PEAP, no certificates.
Got it working!
After 2 hours of searching the web and playing around, I got it working now, following this guide posted on google code repo:
Razr I (XT890), retail eu, running android 4.0.4 (stock), no root
after endless hours of trying i was able to connect to my university network a couple of minutes ago with the combination of two apps.
1. WiFi Connection Manager
Enter SSID manually
Security "802.1x EAP"
EAP Method "PEAP"
Phase 2 authentication "MSCHAPV2"
Identity "your identity"
Anonymous identity "your identity"
password "your password".
2. WiFi Advanced Configuration Editor
Check Hidden SSID
Key Management: unselect IEEE8021X, select WPA_EAP
AUTH Protocols: select LEAP
Enterprise configuration: make sure Identity and Anonymous Identity are set to your identity, Enter your password
check whether the settings are saved in WIFI Advanced Configuration Editor. If not switch of stock WiFi and repeat step 2 (!!!). Now it should work.
Turn WiFi on and connect to network (Stock WiFi; don't care about settings there, phase 2 authentification is still not saved)
After switching the device off and back on it did still work. Same when leaving and returning to WiFi area.
hopefully it will keep on working. i just tested the browser and play store. didn't discover any problems so far.

Connection is stable, but there seem to be some problems regarding to the speed. Whatever it's usable for stuff you do regularly @university.

Thank you for sharing, this made me so happy!
It's those two apps which made my connection possible.
My eduroam configuration is quite different, but the apps did the trick. I fiddled with advanced wifi config editor alone for hours without any result.
Now I just hammered the config into those two apps and what can I say - proxydroid reported a connection a few seconds later.
I dont't know what Moto's Problem with 802.1X is.
Defy latest stock rom - no connection. With CM -> no problem.
Milestone 2 with stock rom - no connection. With CM -> no Problem.
Rarz I no connection with stock wifi manager . . .
My fellow students with their samsung devices seem so have no problem at all. ^^
(even Win Mobile 6 works, thats a little bit depressing)
btw, speed is fine here. 16Mbit up&down is more than I need on a phone.
Greetings from Kiel.

[Q] Cable modem/router: Wifi signal ok but no connection

Hi guys,
My phone: Samsung Galaxy S3, GT-I9305, Android 4.1.2
I changed the ISP (Germany: To Unitymedia) and are now supposed to use a cable modem which as well serves as wifi router. My hardware is TC7200 (Technicolor).
After setting up everything, the wifi connection to Win 7 laptop and Apple iPhone/iPad is working fine (also LAN connection to laptop of course).
The S3 showed a funny behavior: It is possible to establish a wifi connection and it gets IP address assigned. Default gateway, DNS server looks all fine. However, this is only the wifi signal but not an internet connection. It is not possible to reach any website.
The strange thing: If the google site is cached (from a different connection and then switching back to this problematic one) I can run a google search and get results displayed. However, it is not possible to open any websites displayed as results here.
I tried several things based on suggestions in the net, like restarting the s§, using static IP address, changing wifi ports, disabling wifi encryption completely, restart the router, factory reset the modem/router. Finally I performed a factory data reset for the S3 but this as well, like all other things, did not help. The phone was never rooted until before yesterdays factory reset, because I wanted to use Titanium Backup which requires root rights.
Of course, in all other wifi networks so far, this S3 works absolutely fine!
I am not sure if this matters at all, but with the new ISP I got an IPv6 IP address while before I had IPv4.
To be honest, it might simply be a hardware problem which has to be fixed by Firmware upgrade by ISP. This problem is sort of known to them and when I called in they promised a firmware update in November. But anyway, it would be interesting to understand more about it and usually there is a solution for everything Nevertheless, I couldn't find a solution in any forum yet.
Any suggestions / ideas welcome.
Thanks!
EDIT:
Post already moved.
Reads like wrong settings more than hardware .
WiFi is kernel you can flash a kernel .
But i would reboot router and phone then set up wifi with no security first .

HTC one mini 2 wifi problem

Hi i am having a strange problem with my phone connecting to my WiFi at home on my phone. I find it will not stay connected to my router. I put the WPA2 code in and my phone says connected then it forgets the network and asks me for the code again. My phone connects to WiFi at work so i thought it was my router but my computer and Xbox work fine still on-line. It just seem to be a problem between my phone and router. I have tried lots of things from hard resetting my phone to changing the security on my router and resetting it I am now at the point where i am at a loss and have no idea how to resolve my problem. I have updated the software on my phone but still no joy Does anyone out there have the same problem or able to advise
Thanks

I'm not sure but I read somewhere this is a bug in the htc software. You can fix it by having a wpa code shorter the 6 characters I believe. Or maybe try changing to other wifi security protocol

If your phone connects at work with no problems, than its not the phone. The problem will be between the connection to your router. If changing protocol dint work, you can try open network (No pass, just for testing) if connects then its the security.
You can also check in wi-fi advance settings "wi-fi frequency band" its set to auto.
