Different Region Problem - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi, i have korean unlocked note 9 witn SM-N960N code. I wanted to flash sm-n960f netherlands stock rom but i bricked(subject is not this) the my phone. which sm-n960f country should i choose ? austuria ? uk ? germany ? greece ? which one will work properly ?

You can ONLY flash the firmware with SAME model number.
Btw, wasn't G960N this model number belongs to S9?

flashing through odin n960f firmware to n960n its not possible my friend, the only way to do so is to root your phone and then flash a custom rom, in your case android pie with custom csc to your country, i have the same model and tried this and it worked, it doesnt work in android 10 because samsung/google made some changes in csc, soo i guess we will have to wait until we find a solution for andorid 10/on ui 2.
this is the link to csc selector for changing to your country if you root your phone:
csc selector

It does not matter. I found solutions
1) combination file way
2) custom rom, root, csc selector (i use that one now)

Hello.. I have the same problem. I bought an unlocked SM-N960N phone that was still in Android 9. Somehow the seller was able to put in a SM-N960F rom in it. I have tried flashing the latest Android 10 but I'm getting stuck with a "SECURE CHECK FAIL: (BOOTLOADER)" error and now I have bricked device.
Can you share the steps and what to download?

Maybe it was a custom rom. Afaik no way to flash n960f fw into n960n.
Just flash n960n fw.

yep, probably custom rom with named 960f. not imposibble but requires very effort for 960f to 960n...
if you buy from second hand, i mean used phone like me. i suggest stop trying official roms. if you are sure that your note 9 %100 original. you can find phone infos from download mode. i prefer using custom roms with used note 9. i suggest it you too. i wrote my solution already:

It seems to be custom ROM indeed. I figured out what stock ROM to use through my IMEI number. Flashed it and I'm now typing this from my Note 9.
It doesn't seem that my phone is rooted yet but the OEM is already unlocked.
Where can I get a combination file? My device is in the KTC csc.
I'm also not familiar with using combination files, can you point me to a guide?

Looks like the Dr. Ketan ROM will retain the features I'm concerned about on a custom ROM (i.e. DeX, Samsung Health, Dual SIM). I'll try it out some other time.

SM-N950F on US Tmobile

I have been reading all sorts of threads for the past week on how to do this correctly. I think I got it down, just need some confirmation.
I got an international Note 8 SM-N950F 128GB.
I updated to the latest SW via the OTA - Baseband: N950FXXS4CRG6, Build Number: R16NW.N950FXXS4CRG6.
During Setup, I did not put in my SIM at all, I Logged in to the samsung and google accounts.
Waited 7 days and now have the OEM unlock option available.
I want to use the device on USA T-mobile, and root the device and install Xposed and Viper.
Can this be confirmed as the correct work flow?
I will be following Dr. Ketan's Guide to Root and Backup EFS. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-how-to-root-note8-efs-backup-t3677038
1) Flash TWRP via Odin
2) Flash the OEM Unlock Fix, which should also install Magisk.
at this point, I shall boot into the Stock ROM and ensure the OEM Unlock is available, and Backup the EFS partition using the app from Dr. Ketan's post.
Question is: at this point, after backing up the EFS, I can flash a custom ROM, correct?
3) Backup EFS
4) Install Custom ROM.
- I am thinking https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/development/rom-lightrom-t3768385
5) Flash the Tekhd Tmobile CSC Detonator https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ent/n8-s8x-s9x-oreo-t-mobile-efs-csc-t3772374.
A lot of Roms state they support Multiple CSC's. So, would this CSC Detonator be needed?
5) At what point in time Can I update Magisk or TWRP to the latest ones?
I just want to end some confusion I have. If you all on T-mobile can tell me the steps you took to get this working, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks for all your help.

hello,
any update from your effort to get volte ?
i think if you are on oreo, just need to flash the current detonator version for note 8 and see if it works. you can only use 1 CSC file (either multi or not) per phone.

Fail to Flash N960N with N960F firmware

Hi,
I'm having a problem flashing my N960N with a N960F.
So far, I've rooted my phone with twrp and installed magisk.
However, when I tried to flash my phone with stock firmware in Odin I would get a fail to re-repartition error.
Any help would be great.
Thank you

you should use a custom rom and flash it throught twrp and not odin, use odin to flash official firmware.
in this case go to the note 9 roms forum and search for a rom that supports your model in this case its usually in the tittle N, even thought i read that you can flash the F rom to N model but i didnt try it, maybe some one can confirm this or not.

Thanks for reply, I've been trying to flash my phone with official firmware using Odin from N960N to N960F BTU (United Kingdom). I don't want to use custom rom.
then you are trying for nothing and it will never work. worst comes to worst you might brick.

You shouldn't have any issues installing the N960F BTU OS onto your N960N as they are basically the same device and run on the same hardware specs. They even run on the same LTE bands...

N-960n flash to stock att firmware

So after a bit of research it looks like it is not possible to flash stock att firmware to the n-960n. Does this sound right. I'm leaving Korea and will be going back to att when I get home.

Not officially, no. However I don't think samsung pay will work in the US on a Korean Note9 anyway, so if you unlock the bootloader and root you can flash a CSC changer to get all of the ATNT features (including voLTE/voWIFI). You will void your warranty and lose knox/Samsung Pay.

you can't flash snapdragon firmware on a exynos device. but regardless, just pop the sim and be happy. no need to change CSC for voice and data.
but if you do root as the suggested then you can get the additional csc features by flashing a csc pack.

Exactly which CSC pack can I use and where do I get it?
I am in the exact same situation: Korean SM-G960N, rooted, on AT&T's network with Android 9.
Do I extract the CSC from the latest SM-G960U1 file and flash that with Odin? Can I use an Android 10 CSC on an Android 9 phone?

Are you looking for AT&T specifically? Cause from what I know they don't release them. I used N960U since the 1 is the unlocked version software. Sorry I can't be much help beyond what I know of AT&T files. Best of luck.

Kies is for older Samsung devices, Smart Switch is for newer Samsung devices.
Here is a list of firmware at Sammobile that has android 10 for your device. They are for T-mobile but I'm pretty sure it can be used on the AT&T Note 9.

Hello people, having exactly the same problem, so its a SM-N960U phone, unlocked from AT&T. First to say, im not in the US, dont have AT&T sim, the phone is updated to android 10 with 2.0ui, with baseband ver. N960USQS3DTB1.
Now somewhere i read that bootloader must be unlocked in order even to begin thinking of flashind the device, dont know how accurate that is... Id like to ask the Owner of the post, if he was able to make it, to update his firmware. And if so did he indeed succeded from the link above from ep1kku ?

No, the bootloader does not need to be unlocked before flashing if you are flashing stock software, unlocked bootloader is required to flash custom software, not stock software. There are some manufacturers that require unlocking bootloader even when flashing stock software but Samsung is not and probably never will be one of them.
You can flash your device with stock firmware any time you want, provided that the firmware is not a firmware that is older than your currently installed firmware and if the firmware is for your model number or an equivalent variant of your device with a similar model number and the same CPU series.

You can boot into download mode and it should say whether the firmware is "official" or "custom".
As I said, you can flash stock firmware provided that the firmware that you are flashing is not older than your current firmware, you can't downgrade the firmware, you can only flash an equivalent firmware to what is already on the device or a newer, updated firmware. Your error may be due to this. For all Samsung firmware, the 5th character from the right in the build number is referred to as the binary version. Your currently installed firmware has a "3" for the binary version, this means you can only flash a firmware that also has a binary 3 or you can flash a firmware that has a number higher than 3 but you can not flash a firmware that has a binary that is lower than 3(you can not flash a binary 1 or 2 firmware).
Depending on the specific error that you got, this could be your issue. What was the specific error that you got?

When using Odin, in the box that shows the flashing process, it should say exactly which error you are getting. When I asked what error you are getting, I was not asking "why" you are getting the error, I'm asking what it says in that box. Post the exact name of the error. Try to flash the device, while it is flashing, watch the dialog box in Odin, when it gives the error, take note of exactly what the error is, you can scroll up and down within the box and read all of the output data in that field.
Yes, it could be due to being from a different region but I doubt it. It could also be because your device is a Snapdragon version but the firmware that you are trying to flash could be for a Exynos version instead, or vice versa.

You still aren't telling me the SPECIFIC error that you are getting in the dialog box in Odin. That has been the most important question to understand your issue but you keep dodging it. Flash the firmware, watch for the error, take note of exactly what error it says it is, then post exactly what it says the error is. If you can't post that then there is no point in replying.
If you are trying to flash the device in a different region, you may not need to flash the whole firmware from the different region, you may be able to flash just the modem.img from the alternative firmware. To do this, extract the firmware, find the modem.img then convert that modem.img into an Odin flashable .tar using 7zip with its highest level of compression, then flash the modem.img.tar via Odin.

Strange, your screenshot doesn't show an error, it just stops without giving an error.
I'm assuming that your firmware came in multiple parts with some CSC files? If so, try flashing without using the CSC files.

So i tried U1, version at&t https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note9/firmware/SM-N960U1/ATT/#SM-N960U1 also didn't work, i tried T-mobile on same U1 model, also didn't work. Everytime same error/none error like on the screen shot

Flashing firmware from a different region

Hi all, I'm new to modding in general so there's many things I don't quite understand, hoping somebody can help.
I bought an S10 from a site which was supposed to just send me a refurbed (italian) S10, instead they sent me the US version, (G973U) and I believe it is carrier locked since it's stuck with Android 9 and doesn't find any update.
I have tried searching to no avail what I should flash to simply unbrand it, and allow it to receive OTA updates without tripping Knox.
The build version is the following: PPR1.180610.011.G973USQU2ASGC and the CRC is XAA/XAA/ATT
Thanks in advance.
You shall call them.
Who and what for? I'm past the point of dealing with those sellers, I just want to flash the phone.
CSC (not CRC).
XAA is a multi-region USA ROM, so I don't think it will change over properly for you in Italy. There are threads here for how you reflash a different ROM. The one I used for my S10+ was this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...e-links-and-flashing-discussion-here.3905897/ but I am sure there is one like that for your S10 non-plus... find it, follow the instructions, and you should be all set.
Thanks! I'm a newbie, what does it mean it wouldn't change properly? No OTAs? Tripping KNOX?
I have found this which seems to be the equivalent of the link you posted.
So, I should flash the U1 version right? However I see only a file "SAU - 1 - ....", and my build number doesn't end in that, furthermore I don't know which bootloader version I'm at.

Oh ok. I couldn't understand first.
For that, You'll flash in EDL mode. But the problem is if your device is powered by a snapdragon chip, it'll not working seamlessly.

No problem. I'm aware of the mode I have to enter to flash, as above I'm trying to figure out which stock rom I should flash to avoid tripping knox, and to receive OTAs. What won't work seamlessly?
Well, mods can close the thread, found the way to do it. Leaving it in case somebody ever needs it.
First, found & checked the bootloader version (5th number from the right in the build version) since you can only flash older bootloader versions apparently.
Then downloaded through Frija the rom for the unlocked phone variant (SM-G973U1) and the unbranded CSC (XAA)
Then using odin 3.13.3b flashed the rom

Hello, I'm in more or less same situation. When you flashed, which files did you use? All of them or just the AP_*** file?
Never mind. Flashed it anyway, now I don't see the AT&T startup screen anymore which is promising. Firmware version is now Android 11 (SM-G973U1 and not SM-G973U) on XAA CSC. Will see if I get any firmware updates later.
