I have a doubt and it is the following: when I close a mobile application, it closes completely. I do not want this to happen, 2 examples of applications that I do not want to close is Whastapp, after I close this application I no longer receive the messages and I have to reopen the application, and the alarm when I close it, it is not Run in the background. Are there any settings to run in the background?

Long press WhatsApp icon and choose app info,go to power saver and maybe change to allow running in background.
I have it at smart restriction and I do think it works mostly but Maybe allowing it to run in background always will help but could also affect battery

I have couple of programs (Messaging and Comm Manager) affected by this. I use the Messaging app to check my ISP email. It connects via HSDPA and downloads the messages correctly. I then close Messaging by tapping and holding the X button (according to my setting in Task Manager). I check in Task Manager and the Messaging app is not displayed as running. I also close the HSDPA connection and Comm Manager and again check in Task Manager that Comm Manager is not running.
Some time I check in Running Programs under Settings/Memory and find that Messaging and Comm Manager are running. I stop apps from Running Programs. Any ideas why this happens, and anyone else experiencing this issue? This occurs both if the Task Manager setting for closing apps is set to 'Tap' and 'Tap and Hold'.
You do want the messaging app to be running all the time... so it can receive texts emails etc in the background.

Thanks. That makes sense. I posted a related message in another thread about my HSDPA connection being opened when nothing is running. From your reply I see that this happens because the messaging app is always running even if not displayed as a running app. That is why Task Manager never lists it.
Does this apply also to the Comm Manager?
Even if Messaging doesn't show all the time, it's there running. It'll only hit the task manager if you've opened it manually, then minimized it. Even if it's not visible, you'll still be checking your e-mail.
Comm Manager is a different beast. It's not required to manage communications, it's provided so that you can quickly manage what's on and off for communicaitons.
quick question.
how do you go about removing apps from auto-starting on a reboot??
things such as facebook app, voice dialer, messaging (i use handcent, do i still need to have messaging installed) and such.
also what are the "my uploads" and "pico tts" apps for?? ive just noticed them since i upgraded to cm 4.2.11.1. they seem to be always running, and if i kill them they just re-open.
thnks

tts = text to speech, needed for among other things voice nav.
Yes, you can delete the messaging app, search for commands or use a file browser to delete it if you don't already know.
You should read up on how android manages memory. It kills old processes and keeps others for quicker access. I don't notice a slowdown until ram dips below the 12mb - 10mb range.
Or you could get advanced task manager and set it to kill apps on start and every 30 min thereafter.
Good luck
I am on CM7 on my Milestone and have the SMS/launcher apps locked in memory (although I uninstalled the stock sms to just use handcent) and I am sick of missing messages to the point I have got in trouble because of missing messages.
What else can I do to stop this problem?
Just today I tried texting myself a number (quick way to get info to the phone and never even got the message.
I have been in the application settings and watched it randomly restart which I believe would miss any messages at that time. Since I heard before when either the SMS app or Laucher is loading that any messages will be lost.
Try using the default messaging apk inside CM7 Milestone. As Handcent uses much more RAM compared to the default one. Also, try minimizing widgets on your homescreen, and other apps that constantly run in the background (i.e. antivirus, CPU/RAM/system monitors, social networking apps, etc.)
I will think about trying the stock again but I remember it as being pretty basic.
I have no widgets at all and Facebook sync turned off only other app I know that runs in the background is my voice caller id, which I can't live without.
So I have had all three of the Galaxy Note phones, but I am having this weird problems with some apps and their notifications only on my Note 3. For example, whenever I use Pandora I have 2 notifications constantly running in my status bar. One of them tells me the song that is currently playing and the second one is telling me that Pandora is running. If I go into the app manager and disable the ongoing notification, it takes away both and I want to keep the song notification running.
I have this problem for other apps also, like ReLaunch. I went into the app settings and disabled the ongoing notification, but it is still there. So I went into the app manager again like I did with Pandora to take it away. Now whenever I restart my phone the notification comes back until I uncheck and then recheck the box to disable the notification. This also happens with other apps like some sms apps and Buzz Launcher.
Does anyone else have these problems and/or ways to fix them? I am running stock and not rooted at the moment.
Thanks.

Did you get a solution for this?
You need to go into battery settings. There is an option called "close apps on screen lock" or something similar. There you need to whitelist apps from which you want to receive notifications. Apps that are not whitelisted will be closed when you lock your screen and they will only refresh when you open the app again.
