After OmniROM, apps don't restore - General Omni Discussion

The ROM seemed to install ok, but my homescreen was very different. Apps were quickly installed -- too quickly. Google Disk always restores about 100 apps, but now it restores only 20. I downloaded Drive itself and looked. Sure enough, each backup had only 20 apps. I freak out. I removed the new Omnirom and installed a different one. The new ROM automatically put in everything.
When Omni started, Google Drive did not ask me to decrypt my files. Strange. That necessary decryption has most of my apps and settings.
Some have guessed I didn't install Open Gapps, but I did.
What's going on?? Thanks.

[Q] Best Practices (Titanium Backup, CM7)

OK, so I have CM build #34 and Titanium Backup Pro installed on my Nexus One with all of my apps apps and settings backed up and synced to Dropbox. I also use ROM Manager Premium for handling my CM7 nighties.
I have tried different variations of wiping data and cache\installing Google Apps\restoring all apps and settings with Titanium Backup but I think I am doing something wrong as I usually end up having to enter login and password information on a lot of my apps (once I get them back on my phone).
If my plan is to update to the latest CM7 version every night, what are the proper steps to do so?
Here is what I think I should do:
1. Back up all apps and settings using Titanium Pro
2. Download latest CM7 version
3. When ROM Manager asks if I want to download Google Apps, I check YES
4. After the download is complete, ROM Manager asks if I would like to Backup Existing ROM (I leave unchecked) and Wipe Date and Cache (I only check this if I am having major issues with the CM7 nightie)
5. ROM loads, phone reboots
(Here is where I start getting really confused)
6. Google asks me to sign in. I skip the sign in
7. Join wireless
8. Restore all apps and settings from Titanium Backup
9. Google keeps on asking me to sign in with my Google account.
10 I sign in and usually have issues with Twitter, work email (Exchange), Facebook, etc. Some apps that I know I had installed and configured do not show up but when I go to the Market they show as Purchased and I have to re-download them. Later when I have Twitter and Facebook configured, if I go to Settings> Accounts and Sync, it only shows Gmail and my work email (no Facebook or Twitter). If I try adding Facebook and Twitter, it never goes to the sign in screen. I can back out and see and use Facebook and Twitter on my home screen though.
Questions:
If I am downloading only CM7 nighties, should I download and install Google Apps every night (why else would ROM Manager prompt me for it and include it with every CM7 nightie)?
When using Titanium Backup, should I still sign in to my Google account on my phone or just skip it and restore all settings, apps and data?
Can someone lay out an easy step-by-step best way to accomplish what I am attempting? I think this would help a lot of novice users who want to experience the awesome custom ROMs that are floating around.
Thank you all for your time and effort!
Going from one nightly to another, you do not need to wipe anything.

Then why do I have do I have to keep re-entering all types of logins after upgrading to a new CM7 nightie ?
You say not to wipe data and cache. What about the rest of my post? Any other advice?
Just flashover the top of what u got

You should try logging in to Google first before restoring your apps with Titanium Backup. Then reboot. Usually that will restore the list of apps that you installed in the Market.
If not, then clear your market data and cache and do a reboot again.
So I always should install Google Apps every time I get prompted by ROM Manager just before I start installing a nightie? Then just flash the new CM7 version without wiping Data and Cache?
I didn't say anything about flashing gapps again, just flash the newer nightly over your old nightly.

OK, tried what you said (not flashing gapps) and just flashed to the newest CM7 nightie. I also did not delete Data and Cache. Now the Market, Talk, Car Home, Voice (looks like all the Google apps) do not work. I'm getting pop ups stating that I need to sign in to my Google account but when I go to Settings>Accounts and Sync, There is no option for me to add my Google credentials. I see nothing except corporate email and FaceBook (no Twitter Either---and I have that installed).
That is why I was asking earlier if I should get the gapps every time I flash to a new nightly build. Every time I don't download Google Apps along with the CM7 nightie, I always loose a ton of settings and functionality along with not having access to all of my Google Apps.
Btw, I did a full restore of Titanium Backup Pro (all apps and data) after I flashed to the new CM7 nightie b/c of the problem stated earlier in this post.
Any thoughts?
I have no idea what is going wrong then.
Every few days I download the nightly, flash it without any wipes right over top of my current system, and use my phone. All settings stay working, I haven't flashed gapps for a long while now.
It is pretty much a one step process for me. It sounds like there is some sort of strange wiping going on for you though.
I had this issue when I used ROM Manager to download the ROM.
Here's what to do, just download the nightly from this link,
http://mirror1.kanged.net/nightly/passion/
Then use ROM Manager to install from zip, don't wipe or clear anything.
This will let you flash it over with no issues.
Ah, that could very well be it. I am always downloading it manually and flashing from it manually in Rom Manager.

Yeah I do not know why it is doing this. But oh well lol.

after you flash the new nightly build on top of your current, are you restoring anything via Titanium?
When restoring system data, i found that the order in which its restored makes the difference between things working and not.
I had a similar problem a while back... after a complete wipe and fresh install of CM + Gapps i used TB to restore everything including system app data. after the restore, everything looked OK. If i was to check settings/accounts & sync, everything was there correctly. But when I tried to run a system app, I'd have nothing but problems..(G-Talk & Latitude wouldnt log in, Market was jerked, Gmail would FC...FB and twitter would keep asking for my password..etc). The way I got it to work was to wipe all system data, then in a logical order, restore it again one app at a time with a reboot between each restore.
Its alot easier to just manually enter all account info. Then use TB (if needed) to restore things like FB, Twitter, Wifi & BT settings.
Not sure if this is what you were looking for, but typing this made the bus ride home alot quicker.

[Q] CM10.2 does not reinstall soft

Hello everyone.
Having 4.1.2 I decided to change it to cyanogenmod 10.2 and therefore successfully moved on CM.
1. Made full swipe
2. Installed CM 10.2
3. Installed gapps "pa_gapps-full-4.3-20131102-signed"
Almost everything is fine except one thing: my backup profile (from Google server) does not fully restore. Contacts, calendar, Google+ etc - okay. Browser history and soft from Google.Play do not synchronise. When I enter <Google.Play - My programs - All> I can see that programs that should automatically be installed. Anyway, when I have updated kernel on official ROM, this reinstalling alsays took place, but not on CM this time.
Thans a lot!

always had that happen to me, figured it was because of the move from stock to aosp. just manually install them, thats what i do.

5+ rom for G800F that doesn't have apps installed in separate folders

Hello,
I came to the point 4.4 needs to be upgraded.
Is there any 5+ rom for G800F that doesn't have apps installed in separate folders?
Regards,
Alen
nobody?
background - why do i need it... titaniumbackup nandroid functionality does not work, preventing play store and play services update is impossible
OK... from lack of replies I suppose there isn't any rom with such properties newer than KK.
So, I would like to ask you how do you deal with selective restores from nandroid backup?
Also, how do you prevent Google Play and Google Play Services being updated automatically?
What's the problem with separated folders for apps, may I ask? It's how it works from Android 5.0 and above, all ROMs...
If you sign the app with test-key it won't update, but I've never used it with a Google app to see it there are side effects... There is a free app that can do it (replace the original key to a test one).
the main problem is, as i already mentioned, titanium backup, that detects only data in twrp nandroid backup. also, inability to prevent automatic updates by creating "fake" folders.
what do you have in mind for resigning? zipsigner? never thought of that, but might be a dirty workaround. probably the attempt to update will still happen and fail. also, when decided to update the procedure will be more complicated. hoping there are no side effect. will try and report.
Yes, the app I mentioned is ZipSigner, I've used it with ES File Explorer for keeping and old adware free version...
As for TiB, it's weird... Probably they need to update the app, since Android 5.0 that apss are stored in folders... Or you can use another backup utility, ES File Explorer for instance can save apps and their data (needs root of course).
resigning does not work... play store stops working by saying "authentication required. you need to sign into your google account."
you got me wrong about titanium backup. it otherwise works, it just does not detect apps in nandroid backups - it shows only data. important here is nandroid backup. i'm quite surprised they forgot about this aspect since 5 already.
and btw... deducing from the thread about preventing update with "fake" folder... it seems some stock 5+ roms still install apps in an old way - it depends on package installer.

Restoring apps and file managers' permissions with Titanium Backup

Hey guys,
I finally have time to set up my Pixel 4 XL. I'm coming from a 2 XL (still on Pie) and backed up/restored my apps with Titanium Backup (which I've always done). Of course, both phones have a working root access.
Now I'm facing a huge problem on Android 10 on my 4 XL: no file manager works. They ask for storage permission at the bottom of the screen but it does nothing when I tap it. I checked in the settings and the permission is granted but the app won't scan my internal storage (it says access is denied).
I also have many apps that don't work and are asking to be reinstalled. Is this normal? What's going on here?? I'm already fed up with Android 10 tbh!
If anyone has had the same problems, please chime in!
Thanks.

I haven't had this problem and still use TiBu all the time. Normally I use Solid Explorer to create a single zip-file of my entire TiBu folder on the source phone. I use Root Explorer, too.
First of all, Google's backup has come a very long way and (IMO) it should always be allowed to completely finish restoring your phone. You didn't mention whether you used this option when you first fired up the P4XL, as the option only comes around one time. If you chose to setup from scratch (not using a very recent Google backup from your P2XL, opting instead to "shortcut" by using TiBu) this could be the issue. Wipe the phone, allow GB to do it's thing restoring not only your backup but also ALL of your Store apps. Everything. I even reboot and try to squeeze out a couple more updates from the Store. Then I extract my TiBu zip-file, re-creating the same TiBu folder I had on the source phone. Once the app has root and recognizes the backup folder, do a selective install for ONLY MISSING APPS (the first option). This way you don't inadvertently overwrite a system app, system settings or carry over something old from a previous OS version. At this time you may also want to de-select any old apps you haven't used or don't plan to use going forward, before you hit the restore button.
A pro-tip would be to backup your source phone launcher config in the cloud or offline before starting (I use Nova stored on GDrive). After GB and TiBu have restored everything, I use the Nova backup to restore all my shortcuts and widgets. This method is consistent and mostly error-free for me... YMMV. Best of luck and enjoy your new phone! :good:

Yeah, I didn't choose the Google backup when I first turned on the P4XL (I don't have a cloud backup, I turned it off on my 2XL because I don't have much space left on my GDrive). I do back up my Nova home screen on my GDrive though.
I did use the "missing apps" setting in TiBu, as I know restoring system apps between different versions of Android is a big no-no. Several apps would FC after doing that though. I ended up reinstalling these from the Play Store (luckily, they weren't any "critical" apps for me). I exported settings for the ones that had the option from my P2XL and imported these on the P4XL. It was a long process but, in the end, everything seems to work now!
Thanks for your step by step guide, it might come in handy at some point

Question Google backup work now ?

I just try the Google backup and now seems to work now with latest update (20.5v) and latest Google play Version (after the hard reset, i download the latest Google play from apkmirror)
In past whem click to backup now , vive me error.. Now seems work
I still can't get it to work. I installed updated OS and GMS apks.
I gave the Drive app all the permissions it needs, but it didn't help.
Do you need to install any APKs before you can get it to work?
Thx.
It works but only for some data, not all.
It's syncing for too little apps for me and the settings sync seems too small too.
Also a bit questionable If we can restore it. For me it backs up data from 43 apps, while it should back up from around 63 apps (more installed but not every app is compatible with google backup I guess, on my old phone it's 63 apps and same apps installed).
Edit corrected apps number. Had some which I removed.
Funnily there seems to be some kind of broken android beam support too. But still no nearby share .. though maybe android beam isn't working on my old phone. Beam has been EOS a long time but it's still included on origin OS for whatever reason.
