Help getting root access on the Note 9 - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I have been trying to root my phone since this last saturday and have been unable to do it successfully. I am using TWRP recovery to install Magisk. I have tried it with the RMM bypass and the no verify too. I have tried it with RMM and no verify flashed and I have tried it without. I also tried Dr. Magens package and still the same issue. I noticed my device was running really slow and got extremely hot when I tried this way.
On one of my attempts I got, "Only official binaries are allowed to be flashed" When I went into download mode it said KGG state prenormal and my warranty was void, I think I tripped Knox. I did the RMM flash and these messages went away and I reflashed to stock android now I am looking to start over again
I flashed back to stock andriod and some people say you have to wait 7 days but I still have the OEM unlock option ticked. I would really like to root my phone.
I have an Imgur link but i have a new account so i cant post links. Please pm me or I will see if I can put it in the comments.
Any links or tips or anything is greatly appreciated.
Device info since i cant post links:
Model: SM-N960F
Android Version 10
Kernel Version 4.9.118-17594460
Knox Version 3.4.1 API level 30
Security patch level: 01/01/2020
Do I need to flash a custom ROM once i have TWRP installed or do you guys have any links or recommendations? I have tried following 5 different tutorials on the internet and so far none have worked

Im a goober
If anyone reads this i was not flashing a ROM before flashing these files so I was just flashing the Magisk application I think but since i didnt flash a rom it just overwrote it with the factory rom and bricked my device. I reflashed back to stock via odin then flashed again with OneUI and it went fine very easy

Hello
Patch file "APxxxxxxx" in Magisk manager v7.5.1
And with Odin 14 flash rom with magisk_patched in AP and add CP, BL, CSC_xxx
Work fine

Question about installing Magisk through Odin

So I've already used magisk on my A520F. But the thing is I had to use TWRP to flash it- So that meant that the binaries changed from Samsung Official to custom and things like Knox tripped as it detected I had tampered with the OS (because of TWRP, not Magisk)
So recently I started to search for a way to flash magisk on the ROM I have without the need of using a tool like TWRP, and I just read the official thread but, as I'm almost a noob on these things, I have some questions to ask:
1- I know how to extract boot.img- but then what? What is to patch it? I didn't understand that quite well
2- Lets say I have a firmware(official) which I flashed into my phone. If I extract the AP file and get the boot.img from there, as it's the same file It's supposedly flashed onto my phone, can I use that boot.img to install magisk?
A third thing, not related to magisk but I would be intrested to know
I've installed a UK firmware which turned out to be a Carrier firmware- I had to delete hidden.img to make it flash. I entered into downlaod mode to check everything was in 'official mode' and then I just realised that a new line had appeared in the Download mode list
RMM STATE: Prenormal
Can someone explain what is it?
Thanks anyone who helps me.
Okay, I've already figured out what to do with the boot.img
Tho I still need answer for the second question

RMM state: This probably stands for Remote Monitoring & Management. RMM seemingly manages to prevent users from installing a custom binary on their devices while its active.
How RMM works?
There’s more to it than just that though. Say, your device was stolen, or you dropped it and someone found it but decides to use it himself. He’ll wipe your device probably, and when he does, RMM will make it a requirement that the device is connected to the Internet after the first boot. Otherwise, the person, or the thief, won’t be able to get past the setup screen. If he does connect to the Internet, the device will ask for your Google account instead of letting any account be used. Your account information is saved on an FRP partition the device. Since he can’t flash any custom binaries at all, there’s no way for him to get rid of it.

Can you help me on how you manage to flash the boot.img of magisk along with the stock ?

February Update Install failed

Hello, i had Dec 5 OTA + Magisk rooted device.
i tried to update but it said failed. so i uninstalled magisk and restored to stock boot.img but still saying update failed.
someone said to relock bootloader. i tried to relock bootloader and my data got erased.
even after that i tried to update OTA and im still getting failed update.
i dont know what to do now. can anyone please help me.
i have the same problem
help us please
after doing a bit of searching i fixed it.
i simply flashed my device with Stock Rom 10.0.0.2 using Mi Flash Tool. (there are plenty of youtube tutorials).
after that my device installed the OTA updaet without any error.
after that i rooted my device with Magisk. [patched_boot is already been posted on this forum]
so far, haven't come across any problem. Just not satisfied with the volume update. i had a magisk module for low volume fix which worked better.
What's really needed is full images from Xiaomi, so we can start flashing them manually without worrying about OTAs
See how well the DAISY thread is being maintained https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/ota-v9-6-4-0-odlmiff-t3823913

I have flashed the V10.0.13.0.PDLMIXM (and locked back oem) but I still have the google update problem... from June to September 2019 :/... any idea?

PLEASE help with annoying A6 & magisk problem

Firstly, I apologize if this is posted in the wrong place and topic has been covered before, but I really need your help!
I got the A6 brand spanking new 4 days ago, and have managed to flash TWRP (TWRP-3.2.3-TwrpBuilder-a6ltexx-2018-11-26_20-43.tar) successfully and get RMM-State_Bypass_Mesa_v2.zip, Magisk-v18.0.zip & no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip (in that exact order) and I thought was all good.... BUT here lies the problem, after I have flashed the above files, I need to update Magisk to the latest version to be able to use the Magisk Hide & Superuser functions.. Whenever I have updated Magisk, either by direct install or download only then install in TWRP, it makes the phone reboot at random intervals..
it can be hours between reboots or it can be minutes, it goes blank and restarts from the android boot animation, where I have to enter my pins to be able to use it again.. WHY is Magisk causing this random reboot and how can I fix it??
Ive re-flashed the A600FNXXU3ARL1_A600FNOBE3ARL1_EVR (Android 8.0.0) a good few times now, but this random reboot bug Isn't present since I flashed it back to stock..
Also, a separate question; WHY are certain android apps refusing to run due to phone being rooted?? I thought once you re flash official stock firmware the phone appears "warranty intact"?
I used to be up-to-date with android rooting & modifying back in the day, but I have been out of the loop for a long time.
Thanks for your patience reading this and thanks in advance for any help/answers/time taken by me.
Arty.
Magisk on Oreo doesn't work well if you don't have the one with anti defex version as the kernel keeps avoiding you to use superuser commands as part of security feature even after rooting.
About the stock apps refusing to work after flashing the stock rom, you already tripped knox while flashing twrp which once gone you won't be able to turn back. But flashing a custom kernel would fix such problems most of the time.

Thank you for your reply!
How do I get said anti defex version? Ive tried googling it but only found unrelated results, could you please point me in the right direction in how to proceed please? thanks
Arty.
I can't point you a direct link with a magisk version you need to flash to get rid of defex. If you're lucky you may get a custom kernel built including it. Try one of the oxygen/phoenix kernels through this A6 thread.
The kernels will also help you byass all knox security related stuff which in turn will help most stock apps get back to working state expect for samsung pay and secure folder.

Note 8 soft bricked

Salutations everybody. I haven't had a phone from sammy in a while. Finally invested in a SM-N950F note 8. It's oreo. Tried to root earlier today using the pinned guide in the Guides forum. After going through the process, and flashing twrp. Then formatting data. And rebooting it to twrp (which I did a couple of times) (May been where I messed up,but it doesn't seem likely to me) I flashed the oreo n950f oem issue zip and rooted with magisk. Upon rebooting & enabling dev options. The oem toggle was missing. The guide didn't say what to do in the event that it was missing. Just that it was safe to reboot if it was there, and enabled.
Me being rushed for time rebooted anyway, and now when I try to boot up I get only official released binaries may be flashed, and the phone shuts off.
I'm aware I can restore to stock via odin. But I have a couple of questions.
A. Can I use the same odin version I used for the root process to return to stock, or do I need a different one?
And
B. There are loads of options for country and carrier on sammobiles site. I bought the phone used and have no idea of its country of origin. There is a version that says unknown for country and (bat) for carrier. Is that one safe to use, and is there any difference between the firmwares other than carrier setting being preinstalled (would be my guess of the only difference.)
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
This msg Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed cause of the new security patch lock which called RMM or KG and since u were rooted before then u got this error that's cause you flashed a new BL to your device or you were connected to internet before editing kernel to prevent samsung to add the new lock to your device anyway a normal flash through odin will solve your problem and your device will be ready to use it again without any problems but also without any custom files like TWRP and Magsic which means u will not be able to root your device before editing kernel to remove the new security patch lock

Okay I was thinking I might of missed something. The patch for oem issue I thought covered that.
Is the unknown (bat) firmware the one I need to flash to stock?

Using odin 13.1.3 is recommended.
As you have the N950F, it is part of the multi OXM CSC, so you can flash the filmware for you country and carrier if desired (N950F)
If you want to root, I suggest just flashing a custom rom or kernel, as they have been patched for the RMM KG state issue.

[samsung note 8][revert to stock firmware from custom]

Alirghty so i bought a used samsung note 8 duos. it says it on the back, in the software, in smart switch, heck even the AP and CSC files are infact for a SM-N950F
Here is where the problem is as far as I've figured out, I'll explain what the firmware files are on the device taken from dialing *#12580*369#:
BL:N950NKSU5DSK1
AP:N950FXXS7DSH1
CP:N950NKOU5DSH1
CSC:N950FOXM7DSG1
The phone runs fine honestly but its bugs me that there two different binaries mixed in my phone from what i can tell the BL and CP are from a Korean level 5 Binary (also can someone tell me why security levels matter now?) and the AP and CSC are from F model level 7 Binary
I cant flash anything stock cause its the only thing ive tried and it just wont let me. I am downloading a level 5 binary in *hopes* that it doesnt see an issue with the security levels between firmwares as i always get the fricken PIT error or secure download error orrrr the magic string invaild
All i need is a way to get my dualsims back up and running ive got two imeis on this phone which ive checked online and theyre working also id love it if i could just get all 4 files to be from the same firmware zip
FYI the only thing ive been able to flash is TWRP after which i got to installing no-verity and magisk, Ive been using twrp backups as a failsafe to revert back to the 'original' state my phone was in and thats the only thing working for me so far and i may or may not be a noob in flashing samsung devices

The reason for that is because the phone has obviously been repaired using different hardware from different devices. It's never going to be able to flash normal firmware being that there's different hardware in it. If you want to upgrade that you'll need to use the different versions of firmware for each different hardware.. I'd just send it back if I bought it from somewhere like that.
Revert to Stock
I owns one Galaxy Note 8 SN950-F Indian version,
I have installed one custom ROM for my mobile last month and now i need to revert back to stock.
How can i do it ? Once i installed stock OS using Odin but Knox looks crashed and apps like secure folder not working !
Can i get it done through service center ? When i contacted them they said its impossible as you have rooted once.

Once Knox is tripped it takes a motherboard replacement to revert it.
If SF (Secure Folder) is that important to you, stay on a custom rom that has patched SF patched already.
Literally all TWRP/Rom threads warn you of this, always read the whole OP of any thread in the future.
Yeah. Thats what im doing now. Running on doctor ketans rom.
but im little worried now. Because haven't used any custom roms and worried about security issues.
Can we still go back to stock os ? With genuine updates?

Just follow the steps in the thread below. At the bottom of post #2 you can download "samfirm" for you Pc, it will let you download the latest filmware at a decent speed. (once back on stock you should disable OEM lock so your bank app, Netflix etc will work)

Like I said to you above, once Knox is tripped SF won't work, if SF is that important to you stay on a custom rom that has patched SF. If you're worried about security updates use DeluxeRom which has last months security patch.
