Unlock bootloader deactivates services - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hello together,
as mentioned on the site where you download the mi unlock tool [en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html] , features like "finding device" will not be working anymore after unlocking bootloader.
Will I be able to reactivate it after installing another COM like lineageOS for example ?
Will there be other features which cannot be uses after unlocking/flashing ?
Thank you for a quick reply

Help unlocking bootloader.

Hello, I've received my Mi5 with the Official Global ROM. I wanted to unlock it and install custom roms but to unlock it I need to be on Chinese ROM which is a HUGE problem.
The thing is that I simply can't switch to Chinese in any way, I tried with the updater app, with miflash but don't work, with mipc suite but don't work..
If anyone can help me precisely please, I'm lost and I don't understand the methods with EDL, drivers installs...
Thanks a lot !
Hi, please start by posting a screenshot of your About phone menu in settings. Depending your ROM version, the method to unlock that would likely work for your device is slightly different.

Bypass FRP

Hi,
I have a problem with my Huawei P9 that I bought used. I realized during the reset that the Google account is blocked, but I no longer have the number of the person to whom I bought the phone.
I tried the videos to bypass frp, but I do not have access to the menu "help & feedback" (3:20 in the video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSLJchfjQkM
I think that rom includes a new patch security :crying:
I'm looking for a way to install TWRP to change the rom and go Cyanogen to bypass FRP or attempt a downgrade of the official rom.
The concern is that my computer is not detecting the phone. A warning message tells me that the usb device is not recognized. I think it's a security of Huawei not to have a user use adb or other commands to change rom.
I think the bootloader is lock.
Do you know a way to bypass frp on huawei phones with the latest security update or is there a way to change rom with a bootloader lock phone and no possibility to go into the settings to allow the enable usb debbugging (since I'm stuck when I start the phone)
Thanks
Can you boot in system?

How could he flash with the locked FRP?!
Btw, once you are (already) on AL10 Oreo, you don't have OEM Unlock option in Developers menu.
But to rebrand by HWOTA7, you needed FRP and Bootloader unlocked.
Moreover, even on AL10, if you boot to Fastboot you would see that FRP is unlocked.
And there is an attribute in one of the system XML files, if you enable it (root required for editing) you will unleash the previously hidden OEM Unlock option in Developers menu (ie, then you would have OEM unlock option in Developers menu just like in Nougat)

Similar case with the second-hand P9, where previous owner did not remove his Google account before removing his SIM card and giving the phone.
Read post #1 and then post #7 till the end - solution was DC Unlocker/Phoenix with the price of 15 Euros credits.
PS:
- When doing Factory Reset you should either had original SIM from the previous owner, or he had to remove himself his Google account(s) from the phone
This way phone reacts as if it was stolen (with the SIM card protected by PIN, and when the thief then removes original SIM and tries to bypass Google and FRP protection)

Thank you everyone for your reply !
I do not understand how this paid service will solve the problem and not me (with all the knowledge available to xda volunteers)
Does DC Unlocker have privilege to unlock the bootloader with Huawei?

Ok thanks, I'll try their tools and I'll come back to post on this tread the result for the community
It works
Great !
The software is easy to use and i pay 15€ for unlock my Huawei P9.
I click on the unlocking button after putting my phone in fastboot mode and immediately, the phone reboot and makes a factory reset low level.
I think DC unlocker find system flaw that they alone know.
I do not know which version of android had the phone and which version of the security level but for this rom the security level of android is February 1, 2017 and the android version is 7.0 with EMUI 5.0.
Knowing that I could not bypass with 2018 methods found on youtube or xda, the phone downgraded to another version of android.
I think that their software finds a flaw for downgrade with the bootloader lock and that remove the frp protection
Thank you zgfg

Thank you for confirming and reporting your experience, it might be useful for somebody else (in that another thread I gave you link in the previous posts, it also worked for another user)
Btw, now when you opened FRP and Bootloader, did you upgrade to the relevant latest Nougat, or do you consider going for AL10 Oreo?

This is my second phone and I am looking to stay on a stable system and get used to EMIU. If i like EMIU, it will become my main smartphone.
I will make the OTA update that Huawei offers and stay on Nougat

Ofc. I actually also like EMUI
Btw, EVA-AL10c00 b535/b539 is also EMUI
Stock firmware already contains international languages, just few patches are needed to get
Mob NW working
Playstore installed
and then can optionally come
Magisk root
Face unlock (n/a on Nougat)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rebrand-update-tool-hwota7-p9-eva-t3820849
Open Kirin Treble ROMs O and P (that can be installed over) are for those who want AOSP based experience

Mi9 brick after bootloader locking

Hello. I used this method to lock bootloader in chinese version of Mi9:
in.c.mi.com/thread-1392662-1-0.html
Something went wrong and after that only recovery menu and fastboot is available. At the bottom of the screen appears a message "This version of MIUI can't be installed on this device.". Bootloader is locked now but MIUI is not starting.
I tried to unlock bootloader with Mi Unlock. Unlocking status: "Please add your account in MIUI's Settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock status." Unfortunetly I can't go to MIUI's settings because MIUI is not starting.
I was trying to force ROM installation (global, chinese, eea, stable, developer) using XiaoMiTool and FastFlash - not working.
Also I was trying to sideload MIUI using XiaomiADB - not working.
Bootloader is locked so fastboot mode is useless in this situation I guess.

I'm a new user on this forum so I can't post outside links in messages so that's why I pasted the links as you see. Sorry.
Anyway help me please! Thank you in advance for any help or clue.
Just to get the background: Why did you lock the bootloader? I can't see any reason to do this after unlocking.

Because the banking applications didn't work with unlocked bootloader. I thought this is the easiest method. Now I know it's not. To be honest I was lazy and I didn't want to use twrp and magisk...

You have locked bootloader on Chines device with global/EEA... etc. (not Chines official ROM), you can't do that. As i saw in other threads there is a simple solution with authorized account and EDL flash. If it won't work the only solution is opening your device and connect some contacts with a pin and then EDL flash, there is a lot of videos about that on youtube.

Thank you g_seva. I will try that.
Oh, try mi flash tool beta first. It doesn't require you to login and use the Chinese Rom Global.
GO to recovery and use 'Mi Assistant', plug to PC, use the Mi Flash Tool (beta) if the most recent one is not working. On set it will tell you that you can't install the rom, there will be an error like you can't modify or change but you should be able to do it since you are installing an original Chinese Rom.
Give it a try first.

Can I undo fastboot oem lock?

I blindly followed internet advice to lock the bootloader of my Mi 8 with fastboot oem lock, which bricked my phone ("The system has been destroyed"). I can't use the official unlocker as that would need a change in settings and I can't get into my phone. I can't flash anything with Mi Flash because it's locked. Fastboot is working, is there any way to undo this lock?
Hello dear insx.
Xiaomi is governed by China's government and therefore is anxious to "block" any change in its MIUI system.
Therefore, when you unlock your bootloader your device is "blocked" for modifying or installing the MIUI system.
The solution would be to contact a service center, if there is one in your area, or try to get help from Xiaomi's official site at https://c.mi.com/ (Mi Community)
Have a nice day.

Question Unlock bootloader security concerns

Hello to everyone,
I wanted to unlock the bootloader of my device so I can modify it and I tried to follow the steps given by Xiaomi.
1] enable OEM unlock in developer settings,
2] connected my device to PC
3] signed in xiaomi unlocking tool
then a warning about security changes appeared before finalise the unlocking stating that i will lose fingerprint unlocking service of my phone.
The question is if someday I decide to return my phone to full stock state will fingerprint and the other security services return as functioning?
Thank you in advance.
Yeah you'll be fine. You will have to downalod rom image form xiaomi website, downalod xiaomi flashing tool, connect phone in fastboot mode and flash original os. Phone will be like brand new
And i don't remember that my fingerprint scanner had any problmes, now i have custom rom installed and its perfectly fine

Thank you for the info. It's just what Xiaomi Unlock Tool reports I couldn't know.
The reason I am asking is because I need fingerprint services and NFC for my work.
Thanks again.

I will try some custom roms and if they won't have the features I want I'll try the Indonesian region rom for mi apps. Also, I know I shouldn't relock the bootloader with custom roms, but can I relock it with different regions official roms?

Yes, everything works fine. If you want a close to stock experience flash xiaomi.eu, and everything will work. Fingerprint, facial recognition, nfc and banking apps will work perfectly fine, nothing to be worried about
