I'm not sure whether I'm posting this in the right topic, but I was wondering if it was worth switching from a two-years-old Universal to a brand new Kaiser?
I mean, how long does it look until someone can come up with a proper video driver?
Will the apps that run on a Universal run on a Kaiser too?
What about speed? Screen size? The hardware in general?
How "upgradeable" is it?
I'd like to find out the things they don't give you in reviews, from people who have actually used the device, not just took a fleeting look at it.
Thanks for your help in advance!
There are many many many many other threads about this same exact thing. Seek them out, read them and then then reply/post to those threads, please.

The question is very subjective. In the most extreme case, if you're trying to decide to put food on your table or upgrade to a Kaiser from your Universal, I'd definitely say that it's not worth it
It's also a very opinionated question. Some fan boys will say yes w/o even knowing about the Universal. I like to steer clear of opinions and offer you raw facts. Take a look at this site for the tech comparison and you can be the judge.

Sweet, just what I was looking for, it would seem! Thanks a bundle!
Hi!
I just got a phone bought in Dubai, that appears to be a iphone clone. The problem however is that i can't figure out which one this is. I've tride to open the phone, read trough the manual, tried MyPhoneExplorer in help of identifing it, with no luck.
Does anyone have any idea about some tools, something to figure this out? I can't even figure out which OS its running.
Yeah, im a newbie.
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to forums
This is an HTC devices only forum, hope someone can point you to the right place but do not expect too much as apart from not being HTC also is a copy
Good luck,
Thanks for your reply
True, i also have a touch diamond, thats why i love this place =)
just threw in a longshot in hope of someone having the knowledge of some tools or any advice at all regarding this strange device.
well what comes up when you plug the phone into your computer? (i'm assuming you have an appropriate cable).
I have several choices i.e mass storage etc, but the COM connection displays as a "MTK6255" which my OS (win7) dont recognize.
MTK6255 is the platform on your phone.
Try using the MTK driver from here:
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=540559
might be a meizu m8...i have one
Don't think so. The M8 runs on Windows CE platform as described here:
http://www.techtickerblog.com/2009/02/09/meizu-m8-review/
i think i just found your phone here:
http://www.downtownkey.com/hiphone-3g-music-cell-phone-support-mp3mp4-bluetooth_p7403.html
Note the CPU.
SciPhone?
It might be a SciPhone.
This guy put together a review of a lot of the iPhone clones: http://home.comcast.net/~plutarch/Sciphone-i68.html.
There is a forum for SciPhones, http://www.mysciphone.com/English_Sciphone_Forum/index.php. I'd check that out too.
The MTK processors are really, really, really slow and do not run Windows Mobile.
I have a CiPhone C5, which runs on a 450MhZ Samsung Processor with Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. Much better than any of the phones you'll find at mysciphone.com. xda-developers.com has been amazing for learning how to use and modify my phone.
Welcome to the forum

Please guys!
Do not buy copies, they are cheap, bad quality and not long lasting
Buy the original stuff!
Thanks so much for replys guys, really appreciate it.
For the Sciphone i68-3G, its identical in looks, but i dont have any 3,5mm Jack
Whereas to the hiphone, I found this:
"How to find HiPhone firmware version
Call #*44673#1# and press "version info". You should now see the firmware version of your HiPhone."
Which dont work for me...
thesecondsfade: Is the MTK processor really that sucky? I really dont think i will be using this phone anyways, but I really just want to explore and learn as much as i can. But if it is that crap, i guess i cant do anything
I may have forgotten to mention that i found somewhere in the manual where it stated "mini iphoen" "mini iphone". -But aint so mini imo..

I know it's probably not as high quality as some of the other retail phones available on long data/phone contracts with the US cell phone companies, but I just can't afford that. I really wanted a new Windows Mobile phone without having to sign up for an expensive plan to get it... so I bought the CiPhone C5. I did a lot of research before buying it.

It's probably the i68+, not the i68+3G. The 3G model has the 3.5mm jack, the i68+ doesn't.

I had one for about a month and it was too slow for my tastes. The firmware was flawed as well. There is a website you can upgrade your firmware, but that'll cost you another $40 bucks or so... probably not worth it but you can decide that for yourself.

The Chinese clones are known to be sketchy when it comes to their manuals... or even in their descriptions of what they're selling. Most sellers just try to say whatever they can to sell the phones without really knowing what exactly they're selling.
Try putting *#8375# into the dialer.

Didnt work.
I guess ill sell this and buy the proper phone, HTC Hero
The only other dail code I know for the clones is *#433943#.
this works
*#11*# gives you the software version
that post... are you serious? Cause I would understand if it wasn't intentional... but...
that's just pure fail, in all it's beauty.

Hi,
I bought a Chinese phone, a clone of the Blackberry HS 9500 I think (looks like the Blockberry 9500 clone) and it has the Engrish manual as you might expect.
Given that I set my aims before purchase (I wanted a cheap dual SIM and not much else besides a media player, basic camera, bluetooth … couldn't care less about the TV/FM and so on) and, it isn't bad but the media player is fairly rubbish inasmuch as I have no idea how to get it to play a track (pref. a series of tracks).
A colleague, though, intrigued me with talk of alternate OS's for phones and given that its OS is by far the worst part of the phone (not bad but not good either) I wondered if cheap phones of this kind can be given a new OS and, if so, how I go about it?
Thx for any advice
Keke
I bought mine from Bigboxstores and within a week it had a dead pixel on screen. I emailed them and said I was returning it for a refund. I packaged it exactly as it was received and it was in mint condition. A whole month went by and I kept emailing them and asking if they had it, eventually they said they did and were checking it. I eventually got an email saying 'sorry no refund, phone works fine, has a few marks on it, thank you'.
No offer to exchange it or anything. I have resigned myself to the fact I have lost my money. Such terrible customer service and using a pony excuse to avoid refunding me. It's not like I'm gonna travel to China to get my money back.
My advice is steer clear of copies and do NOT buy from Bigboxstores as if there is problem with your phone, you will NOT get your money back.

To the "Stinky Dentist), get the Nexus 7. Has a nice development forum for it.

Apologies , Moscow Desire and stinky dentist...
Guess I'm just tired (been up for 30 hours)... it was the whole orange color scheme and the fact I couldn't really understand the question upon my first reading.
And you're right, MD, I'm not a moderator... I overstepped the mark... sorry.

@stinky dentist....
I don't know about the Samsung... but the N7 is a pretty cool device. If you're willing to go all the way with it (unlock the bootloader), there are some great custom ROMs to flash... and with a newly discovered exploit, it's easy to ROOT.
I suppose it depends on what you want to use the device for... gaming, browsing, etc. Flashing custom ROMs... Does the Samsung have an unlockable bootloader? The Nexus 7 does... and that is why it's such an attractive device for tinkerers like me.
Anyway, just my thoughts... you'll have to make your own decision of course.
Good luck... and once again, my apologies for being so short with you.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Thanks Mate. Cheers

No problem...
If you're interested in the 7inch form factor, and the Nexus 7 in particular, you might want to keep your cash in your pocket for a while, as there is a second generation Nexus 7 on the horizon, tentatively pencilled in for a July release...
http://www.pc-tablet.com/23388-google-nexus-7-2nd-generation-release-date-specs-android-50-updates
http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/04/16/nexus-7-sequel-sales-predictions-for-2nd-gen
There's a lot of baseless speculation, not least here on XDA, about this device and KeyLimePie (Android 5.0)... and even a putative further upgrade to JellyBean, namely 4.3. (If that happens, I will be astonished.)
If I were you, with money to spend on an Android tablet, I would hold off until the Google I/O conference in San Francisco (May 15-17), when it's expected significant announcements and product rollouts will occur... both software and hardware related.

What he said...
But if you need to buy one now, I would recommend N7... I am a Samsung fan and I own a few Samsung devices, but current gen N7 has better specs than Tab 2 7. One thing I miss though... is that Samsung has a microSD expansion slot. I miss this a lot on my N7 but other than that, I would consider N7 a better buy.
Hey guys, I have one friend, want a unit for his car, and now looking all the stuffs, I have a questions, what it is recommendable right now to buy MTCB or MTCD? When we will gift one MTCD unit to Malaysk? xD
The car is Toyota Land Cruiser/Prado 150 ¿Any suggest?
best regards.

Please read this forum section description, standard Android head units are not Android Auto devices!

MTCD
I did not know where to post this same question so I would like to piggyback on this one.
looks like there is a lot of development work here for MTCB and that the MTCD is starting. I have a newsmy and I am thinking of switching to a different unit with more support and activity. I am looking at 2 units, both Joying, JY-UQ130 and JY-UL135. one is MTCB and one is MTCD, I know by reading the forums I can update the UQ130 to 5.1.1 So wich would you do and Why?
I see one prior post that says MTCD, but no real reason.. THANKS
Hi all,
I just purchased 6 cyber monday 7" fire tablets. Think I paid $30/ a pop. I did so with the expectation of modifying them all for my kids. My hope is that I can maximize the hardware purchase by rooting the tablets, but realized, as of this post, that there are no known solutions on OS version 5.4 (which is how they shipped) or 5.6 which is what they update to almost immediately when connected to wifi. Given the price I am confident that a ton of these were purchased and am therefore hopeful that a solution to the rooting dilemma will be found with the large demand out there.
I thought I would post, to create a location for the latest information on rooting the device, and to hear from others out there who may be in the same position. I'd like to find out what others are doing to mitigate the limitations of the Fire OS until a root solution is found (if it is even possible...as I have little knowledge in the field of hacking). For me personally, I find the biggest drawback is not being able to connect (fully) to Chrome. The main perks for me being gmail, calendar, all bookmarks. I think I could live with the cumbersome Fire interface if I could access Chrome. Conversely, I think these tablets will eventually become paperweights if I can't make them more Android like.
I have been using it to video stream and watch MP4's while in bed, with an external bose bluetooth speaker of course (the onboard speaker is a dog). I also am using it as my main kindle reader, replacing a Kindle 3 wifi that recently blew its screen. I will have to get more out of it if my children, who are android phone and chromebook users, are to find it useful.
Let's hear what others are doing and if anyone has gotten wind of solutions being worked on.

I accept the rules of the forum but do have the same questions, reading since hours and do not have a final glue as well.
This might be a good starting point:

There are hundreds of threads mixed different kind of devices 7'' 8'' 10'' GEN5 ,6,7...
For a beginner with the device this is a quite confusing situation, so if some one has a hint or link where to start to read - all help is very welcomed.

Sounds like you scored an early build 5th gen device (likely 18-24 months old). Not many of those pups around!
No need to root or even boot up FireOS v5. You can launch TWRP directly from fastboot and immediately install the custom ROM of your choosing (likely Fire Nexus or Lineage 12.1).
so how do i launch twrp? and I can choose ANY rom?
