Hello,
I have an unrooted, p30 pro Canadian model vog-l04. I just got the automatic update to Android 10 but now I am unable to send SMS messages. I can receive them fine but can't send. I have tried everything in the list below. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Cleared the system cache in recovery mode
Checked SIM card
Cleared network configuration (reset network settings)
Force closed messaging app
Cleared messaging app cache.
Uninstalled messaging app updates
Updated messaging app
Rebooted
Edited contact phone numbers
Confirm Message Center Number is correct
Checked voice calling and mobile data
Deleted old messages conversations
Tried sending from different SMS apps.
I really don't want to do a factory reset if I can help it! Is there anything else I can try?
Thank you!

Honestly, although you don't want to, after a major OS upgrade a factory reset is always advised, a vast majority of the time it leaves behind rubbish files which cause inexplicable problems like this one that just cannot be fixed any other way.
The only other thing I can think (but doubt) that occasionally happens upgrading to 10, is the APN settings password needs fixing, but that usually causes a no data problem rather than SMS, but worth a look
Thanks for your reply. For anyone else who has this problem, I managed to fix it without a factory reset, thanks to this post here. It's as simple as downloading huawei backup from the play store, which I think I had previously removed. SMS now works fine

Thanks so much - I had tried what I thought was everything to fix this!!! Reinstalling Huawei Backup did indeed instantly fix it.

I'm rooted and running bugless beast v0.4. My phone said my text message inbox was full and that my phone was low on space. I dumped a few apps off on to the SD card and deleted all the text messages. I also tried unsuccessfully to add the new R2-D2 boot animation around the same time. I don't know if i somehow deleted something important when i was in AndroZip deleting the R2-D2 stuff or what is going on but I can no longer receive text messages. I can send them out and everything else works fine. I tried a few different ROMs in ROM manager with no luck. I've since switched back to Bugless Beast since i think it is unrelated to the problem.
I wiped data and cache and it starts working again but after all my apps finished downloading and installing, it quit receiving text messages again.
Auto-retrieve messages is check marked.
I've found out that I can receive picture messages but not text messages. I have an unlimited data, text, and picture message plan so it isn't that I have reached the limit of text messages this month or anything.
I have used Handcent exclusively pretty much since I got the phone. I tried uninstalling it. That didn't help. Reinstalled it and that didn't do anything either.
Does anyone have any ideas what is going on here? Thanks for any advice you can give me. - Kevin
have you tried sending messages to urself? is ur message center properly configured?
Yes, I've tried to send messages to myself and it doesn't work. And I'm assuming everything is configured correctly. As far as I know I haven't changed anything.

contact ur telco provider and ask them about this. coz it seems to not originate from your side.
Well, I had an update to the Norton Mobile Security App this morning. After updating, everything seems fine. I'm able to send texts to myself and I've received them from two different people. I don't know if Norton caused the problem in the first place or fixed the problem I already had. It never popped up saying it found any problems so I'm guessing it was just a bug in Norton. I checked the comments in the market and no one mentioned having that problem though so I don't know. I'm just glad it's working now. Thanks for your help guys.
The problem lays probabely in your internal memory being to full. I've heard people with similar problems on the Milestone. After deinstalling some apps it all worked again. Your problems also begin when you have reinstalled all your apps.
Maybe you can move more apps to your SD since, I presume, you have a Droid.
I've got plenty of space. I've moved apps, deleted old texts, etc. none of that fixed it. Its been fine after I got the norton app update though.
The R2D2 boot animation likely filled your /system partition, this happened to me so I moved all the system sounds to sdcard keeping the folder structure intact and all is well. Just remember your phone won't ring if your sdcard is not in the droid afterwards.

Hi, first of all thanks for the help you could bring me. My problem is that since yesterday night I'm not receiving any kind of sms or mms on my stock messaging app. Today I was trying to solve it but with no success. So I installed Go SMS Pro and to my surprise it worked, I started receiving SMS and mms, but still the stock messaging app is not alerting of upcoming sms even though it's receiving them (I think that they share a common folder and that's why if in go SMS pro it works it'll show on stock messaging app, so in theory stock is not receiving but just showing, am I right?).
For now I'm using SMS go pro, but I'd like to know why this happened. I read something about accessing a hidden testing menu (*#*#4636#*#*) to change the smsc but that menu is not available on my phone (any idea why?) tried the code above and tried using those apps that serve as a shortcut. The screen goes dark as it's trying to access the testing menu and returns to home screen, in other apps (like missing shortcuts) it shows as unavailable. I even edited the hiddenmenu file on efs/carrier from OFF to ON and still the testing menu doesn't appear. I'm using my phone right now with mobile data, wifi works well and so do phone calls, no problems at all.
I'd really appreciate any ideas that could help me. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 running 4.3 firmware, I updated from 4.1.2 a couple of days ago but didn't have any problems, I could receive sms normally. The problem happened suddenly yesterday night.

there is an option in Messaging app...Auto Retrieve - check if enabled....
if other app work with no problem it's just an app related problem..not something else...check in app setting maybe something is not enabled...
a factory reset would make it work for sure....but is too much...

Thanks for the answer. Yeah, I don't want to factory reset since I've just did it to upgrade to 4.3. About the app settings, I've just tried all the possible combinations. I'm just using GO SMS Pro for now but MMS aren't downloading. Sigh.

try this: go to Settings->More->Application Manager-> Select "All" tab -> select Messaging-> Clear data + Clear cache...
I've had my Xperia since around February, it's worked flawlessly no problems, but this past Saturday was the last time I was able to receive any text message. My friends still receive my messages, but I myself do not get any of their replies. I'm not sure what the problem may be, everything is stock on the phone, still running 4.3, any ideas?
Are you rooted? If so did you freeze or uninstall the messaging app?

I had a similar problem to that on my Nexus 5. I solved this by going through Settings > Apps > (name of text app) > clear data. If it's a stock app, disable the app and let it revert to factory version. Then re-enable it. Since I was using Google Voice, I got my texts back. I'm not sure with yours...make a backup just in case.

Yeah, it's the default SMS service, I'm not sure the root cause, thinking of taking it in so they can run a diagnostic.
Will try that and do a backup just to be safe, thanks for the advice!

Hey guys i need some help. I've got a bootloader unlocked(30.B7) rooted, stock 4.4.4 Moto X and I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out why I cant send text messages but im somehow able to receive them. I can get sms and mms but cannot send. I've tried using different text message apps and none can send. I've tried factory resetting and that didn't help either. Anyone have a clue?

It's possible your message center (SMSC) number setting has been changed or reset somehow (maybe if you recently swapped sim cards or something). Try resetting it by following the guide in the link below (disregard the CyanogenMod branding, it's the same for stock ROM).
if you can't use *#*#4636#*#* then either make an activity shortcut to Phone Info or use one of the dedicated apps in the play store, like Radio Switcher (the apps don't do anything but open Phone Info menu).

OK so i gave this a try and had no luck with the getting my carriers SMSC. I also found on one site that deleting my stock sms app may be the problem? sounds kinda lame since I've done that on other rooms but on other phones. Could that be it?
Yes, if you re-install the stock messaging app it will work.
I've tried different 'stock' sms apps form the play store with no luck still.
By 'stock' sms app I mean the system app 'Messenger" that came with the phone that you uninstalled. You will have to search around to find it since it is not in Play. Next time just disable a system app, do not uninstall it. That way if it breaks something you can re-enable it.
OK so I found the stock sms app and installed it, still a no go. I even tried converting it to a system app using Titanium backup. I've found that in that app and also Hangouts when I enter a thread the app FC's. I don't know what else it could be

Did you set the stock SMS app to the correct permissions? Probably time to flash the system.
Hi guys i hope somebody can help me, i receveid a new z3c because the old one got some death pixels, so like the first one i did root-backup-drm-keys then i install all in one lollipop version by hispanico so everything was fine, the problem now is when i receive sms (using the stock or hang outs) i see the notification i open it and read it then if i want to see the sms again i cant, i dont erase them, the sms seems to be there but when i try to see it no text is show, i already change between stock and hang out and its the same, but the stock erase them, hang outs dont, also i changed the options in the two apps being each one as default sms app, but no success, some times works fine but after a while, I click in the sms and the whole conversation is gone, i already wipe cache and dalvik, uninstall/install stock sms app and hang outs too, verify the system hour but the problem remains. by the way i can receive and send sms.
after a quick search on the net some people seems to have the same issue, some answers are to disable notification in the app options, others to turn off the phone some seconds, change the preview option, factory reset, others that you only need and update, and the one that seems to be work (fastest)install textra, No other apps textra will do the job
