Samsung S10 disconnecting USB when battery gets fully charged - Android Auto General

Hi,
I have an issue with Android Auto connected by USB to my VW carsystem Discovery Pro 2.
Everything is working fine, but when the battery of my Samsung S10 gets fully charged the USB connection
gets disconnected every 2-15 minutes. It reconnects again after 30-60 seconds, but this will happen again and
again.
If the battery is not fully charged the connection works for hours until it is fully charged. Before I never made
the link to the loading satus of the battery, I was only wondering why it happens. But now I am shure it's
the reason.
So the question is where is the issue related? Android 9 and 10? Samsung additional Software? Android Auto
handling the battery overload safety function?
And is there a setting to disable these disconnections?

Try changing your settings of the charger/usb in developer options

Hi,
thanks, do you have more derailed Info which setting?
Can‘t find anything in developer menu which seems to belong to charging...

What do samsung support suggest?

Like always, resetting the device and to send it to repaircenter for a check.
I don‘t believe that would help...

Was the issue resolved after factory resetting the S10?

I haven‘t done it. I don‘t believe that a reset will help with this. The issue is there since the beginning, so updates esspecially from Android 9 to 10 shouldn‘t be the reason. Before I do a reset and setup everything from the scratch, I wanted to know if there are any settings I can try and I wrote the support team of Android Auto App. Will do the logging and check if they can find something.

Have you tried a different cable? I had a similar problem with my VW and the S9 plus. I found a website where others had intermittent disconnection issues and suggested using a good quality cable. I was using the basic cable that came with my phone. Once I changed the cable to something a bit more meaty the connection was rock solid.

I tryed 5 different cables from 1.1 charging only to 3.1 standard. Absolutely no difference.
And most important and like mentioned before, battery not fully charged and the connection is solid. Depends how empty the battery is this can be hours. When the battery gets fully charged the connection issue starts and continues. So all indicates an issue with the charging state of the battery. I would believe a overload protection could be the issue. Normally it should disable the charging only, but it disconnects the data connection. Maybe the carsystem doesn‘t handle that kind of protection, or there is an issue in Android or Samsung software. OK Android there should be more people, Samsung software maybe too. But maybe there are not so much using Android Auto with S10 and Discovery Pro 2 in a VW car.

Since a few update, I do have a problem like yours. I have a pixel 3.
It connect four a minute, disconnect and a minute later, disconnect...

Galaxy S drain to 0% while on AC power

Hi,
I have recently moved to Gingerbread 2.3.5 (JVS) on Galaxy S. I am now facing a strange battery issue: Whenever I put the phone on AC power it charges to 100% but then stops charging and never restarts it unless I manually unplug and replug the cable.
If I unplug it 1 hour after I hear the full-charge beep it will show 98%. Not much of a problem.
But last night I used WLAN hotspot, which drains a lot of battery. I plugged the phone to provide enough power. At one point I heard the full-charge beep. 2 hours later when I unplugged it it showed 27%! Why didn't it restart charging if the battery was nearly flat?
I never had this issue with Froyo.
What could be the problem here?

You not searching a bit before posting is the problem
Don't mean to be rude or anything but there is a huge thread going on and several others were also made talking about this. Long story short:
- any gingerbread samsung rom (and all based on) in SGS has this major bug you've just experienced since day one.
- Samsung doesn't care to correct it even if they have released lots of updates that don't actually fix anything major like this. And they even have the gal to tell people they won't bother with ICS on our phone when they never got around fixing bugs this serious on their current release.
- there's no fix i'm aware of, don't bother changing kernels or anything else. Some people say changing your USB settings to MTU (kies compatible) work. I've personally tested it doesn't.
- Workarounds: either you charge your phone while it's off or you change your phone's rom to one that's not samsung related like cyanogen, miui or ICS.
Yeah!!! I have the same Problem too bro !!! But not just 27% ,I was watch video on YouTube until midnight and than unplug it.Suddenly My phone turned off by it's self. (Sorry for my bad English)

[Q] Charging problem

Hello everyone.
I have a really big problem with my Xiaomi Mi3w (Cancro) and i haven’t find a solution in months.
I have an issue with the battery(?) or with the micro usb connector, sometimes i can’t charge my battery, no matter what or how, i can’t in any way.
When i connect the phone to the wall charger it doesnt charge or it even drains the battery, even if it’s off, it happened that some times when i connect the phone to the charger at 20+% battery after some hours it’s at 10%.
When the phone behaves like this and i try to connect it to the pc it can’t seem to hold the connection for more than 3-4 seconds, it continuosly connects and disconnects and it’s impossible even to open it in explorer. Obviously it’s impossible to charge even in this way.
At first i thought that it could only be a hardware problem (faulty connector/charger/cable etc)
but the last time i had this issue (today) i discovered that i can keep the connection between pc and the phone using fastboot. When i use fastboot the phone doesn’t disconnects continuosly so i can say that in 99% it’s not a connector/cable problem.
Could it be a kernel bug? I know that the kernel it’s active even when the phone is off but in charge, this could explain the charging problem even if it’s off.
Another thing that i discovered is that when the phone is on the connection to the pc gets more stable if i turn off debug mode ( can keep the usb connection on for more than 30 secs but i can’t seem to charge it anyway).
Things that i tried to solve the problem:
-Change the charger (1st charger is xiaomi’s orignal/ 2nd it’s a sony with output 5V/850 mah/ 3rd is a lg 4.8V/1A/ 4th is a generic tablet charger which came with my acer iconia with 5V/2A) none of these solved the problem.
-Change the cable (used 10 and more different cables, every cable was tested with my other devices and all were working well with my moto G and acer iconia)
-Fastboot install of both stable and developer rom
-Clean fastboot install of both roms (formatting both systems earlier with cwm)
-Install via cwm of ivan 4.4 aosp and cyano 12 (both of these uses the same leaked kernel right?)
-Cleaning connector with a neddle, soft cloth and some alcohol
I’m not sure about this other point but the phone seem to get in this not charging state when the battery gets below 30% and i keep it uncharged overnight.
So i thought that i could also be a problem related to the governor used by the phone when gets to a low battery profile and specifically when this governor tells the phone to get in deep sleep.
(this could perhaps explain the problem of both cyano and ivans roms random reboots and the workaround using partial_wake_lock)
I hope that someone can help me to solve this problem because my device is useless now
Thanks in advance to everyone
i have the same problem with my MI3W. Sometimes i can charge it while smartphone is power off.
I tried with another battery. I am waiting for a new usb connector flex to check too.
Do you find any solution?

I think i might be having the same problem. My phone started acting weird at the exact same condition. The charging connection kept going on and off. Felt like hardware issue at first. Charged my phone somehow to full charge and reset it. Looks good now but still skeptical.
Fingers crossed.

Hi i resolved the problem some time ago, cleaning the connector with a very tiny needle, i didn't go very far the first time that i cleaned it, probably it's only dirt, try cleaning it yourself and see if it resolves the problem
going fine

Not charging

I got this phone 2 months ago brand new from ebay.
It had mostly working fine until today.
Battery was around 25%, so I plugged it in for charging. The charging connection kept disconnecting and reconnecting every second. I thought it could be a loose cable, but I checked everything. Eventually it connected, but the phone wasn't charging. I opened the settings and checked under battery, it said something like "connected, but not charging". I tried changing the charger, used 2 different charges but same result.
At this point it was clear the phone wasn't charging no matter what. I checked the USB port for dust, etc and also reset the phone. I also noticed the phone become very very laggy, not registering touch etc. Restarting the phone temporarily fixed lag and touch issues, but the problems came back quickly.
I also connected it to PC, but nothing happened.
Finally the battery has drained, and the phone has been plugged in for a few hours now, but still no charge. It's dead.
What could be the issue? Any suggestions? Seems like a hardware failure?
It's a 2 month old phone and I could be out $300+.
First time I bought a Xiaomi phone, this is a very scary and disappointing experience. I didn't drop the phone, no damage. As I said the phone was 100% fine before.
i just experiencing this issue exactly a week ago, at that point my battery were 7% down to 5% while trying "the fail" and when i plug the charge it says "plugged in, can't charge right now" but after 3 hours or so charging in while the phone was on, it bounce back to 7% and still displaying that message.
after trying to charge while the phone was off for more than 12 hours with no results, i gave up and place silica gel around the charging port for approx. 3 hours or so. and then i do this step.
i don't know what the pin point of the causing factor is and i don't know what step is unnecessary but this is what i do. i place silica gel around the port incase the port detecting moisture and preventing charge from happening, after 3 hour i try charging again using 18w quick charge brick while the phone is fastboot and turning it on. just like that the battery was charging.
after my battery were full i update the software to pie incase this is because of the software update (just like pixel 2 did), give this tutorial video a try*https://youtu.be/F9XNIbpC1yA some ppl able to do it in the first try, some 3x, some 6x, me? i finally achieve that on my 11x. just give it a shot and patience, no need root, ubl, etc etc
the fail. i tried using my friend charger (we have same phone) didn't work. tried using computer usb didn't work. tried using that quick charger brick without that silica gel part, didn't work. tried charging when the phone is off (i waited more than 12+hours) still didn't work.
based on that my conclusion were either there is moisture in the port and the sensor detect it and prevent the battery from charging up or the V9.6.17.0.ODIMIFE november update causing this problem.
again, this is what i do
-place/cover the charging port with silica gel
-wait approx. 3hour or more
-put the phone in fastboot mode
-charge the phone with 18w fast charger while in fastboot mode
-try to turn on the phone
the only post about this issue other than this was some guy in moto x4 thread on reddit, i don't know why there is so little info about this issue.

Thanks for the response. I don't have silica gel but I placed the phone in rice for a few hours and then tried charging, it still won't work.
I can't get into fastboot either because the battery has drained completely by now.

spoiler alert, that guy got his replacement phone while we (i assume you too) didn't even have access to official xiaomi service center ?
oh god, i just had it again, second time 10days later after the first one, on the latest pie update.
i'm legit scared ?, pray for my phones ?
but thanks god, the "plug in the charger while the phone on fastboot mode and turning it on"
still works, just like last time. even without the 18w fast charger.
I have the same problem. Battery drain could be the fingerpint sensor issue. The thing is the battery got really depleted and now, it seems the charger program/circuitry is consuming more power than it can charge. I tried several chargers, several usb-c cables, but nothing. Some hours ago the notification light blinked for some seconds and then it appeared as if it was indeed charging, it even showed the charging battery image ( the one without %, the one that appears when you have a really low battery charge ). But it has been hours trying and it doesn't do that anymore and there seems to be no way of making it charge and boot.
This is an appalling situation.
Similar problem, I purchase a Xiaomi Mi A2 by ebay, and passing 30 days (warranty expired) phone dead and never came to turn on, just flashing a white led, but nothing else, somebody has experimenting this problem and steps to revive the phone:crying:
same ****, guys.
I've tried several cables, couple of hard resets and etc. But now I have a pretty brick
I don't know if related but I had similar behavior after I dropped my a2 in the WC, after drying and figuring what prevented it to power on I discovered the USB plug at it's logic board internal connector as the parts preventing it to turn on, some cleaning an drying and my phone comeback.
Then today I observed it didn't charge, and the body warmed, It showed 50% charge, I rebooted and then it didn't turn on again, since I was doing some workout I figured the usb again got wet, I opened cleaned , dried assembly again and then it turned on w/o issue, but then the battery was showing 90% charge not 50% as before rebooting.
Maybe this your situation guys, it you think your phone somehow got wet, and you have no way to claim warranty (or too far from service center) try cleaning and drying the internal USB port connections. (Doit at your own risk).

My beloved Moto Z died in the same manner. I dropped it to the WC and finally died a few hours later. I'm happy now wirh my A2 but i miss the AMOLED screen [emoji24]

I just had the same issue. The phone just randomly cant charge anymore and when I plugged it the battery charge indicator just keep going on and off but without charging. I tried to reset the phone in factory mode but no result, I tried with differents cables but no result. When the phone was plugged it was very very laggy but as soon as I unplugged it everything was coming back to normal.
Now I have run out of battery and my hopes to get my phone back to life are pretty low considering what I read on this topic. If anyone has a solution please tell us!
I would add that I always took care of my Xiaomi Mi A2 (no fall, no water spilled on it, no overheating) and everything was going well until a few hours ago. I didn't installed any new app since like a week ago (from the PlayStore) and I updated to 8.1 maybe a month ago. I thought waiting so long for Android Pie was annoying but this is way worse. If the situation doesn't evolve I will never buy a Xiaomi phone again. Very disappointed
Mi A2 stopped charging
After 2 month of use and Android pie update this stupid device refuses charging. I'm so very disappointed. I can't believe i fell to this Chinese trap. This is the last time I'm purchasing a Xiaomi phone! "Android One phone".... Yeah right!

In my case, after 4 months of use, just after Android pie update, I have stumbled on my MI A2 lite showing problems with USB connection and charging. The phone is not able to stablish a stable connection to the charger or the computer, it just keeps connecting and reconecting, begin charging and stopping charging.... If I leave the phone charging all night, it seems to finally fully charge. I can't figure how this problem may be related to Android Pie update, so I think it is just coincidence, and the usb connector is faulty, though I don't know the cause.... I think I will try to have it replaced

if you go to the battery setting and it's says "plugged in, can't charge right now" then you should try plug in the charger while the phone on fastboot mode and turning it on

Hello,
I have something similar, I'm in Switzerland and running the Pie Rom from Nederland. I don't think it's link to Pie, maybe from a security patch because it didn't come at the same time for me, but this is what I got:
-When I plug my phone to a fast charger, I get "charging for a few second, then not charging"
-If I plug my fast charger and reboot the phone, the phone will charge (I need to double check but I guess slowly)
-I have a Audio-Adapter (USB-C, 3.5mm, USB Type C), so if plug the charger to this Adapter, and them plug the phone, the phone is charging fine (slowly).
So to me it looks like an issue with the fast charging...

No I was not able to fix it. I am talking with my credit card coverage and see what they can do.
I got a different phone in the meantime.
I also got rid of all my other Xiaomi products, never going to give this company a cent in the future. They are cheap for a reason !! Limited support and shady parts used in their devices. They can't be using quality internal components with such cheap prices.
Their mibox also randomly die.
Quantity over quality seems to be their mantra
Guys, it happened to me too,
I've flashed from android one Pie rom, to pixel experience.
Pixel Experience is great rom, was working brilliant for couple of days.
Then it stopped to charge. Now phone has discharged to 0% and I can't do anything.
My assumption is that getting new battery in exchange might help me fix the issue.
I've read that once you move to Pixel Experience Pie version form Android One 9.0 you need to flash kernel to. I did not do that.
Now waiting for the battery to arrive and will see what I can do with it.

Phone Won't Charge Unless I Restart

Hi,
I've been using my Redmi K20 Pro since November and I encountered a problem where my phone won't charge. I tried my backup charger and usb-c cable but it still didn't work. Once I restarted the phone it began charging again. Based on my testing once I unplug the charger I need to restart again to see the lightning icon charging indicator. I also noticed that the charging speed is very slow unlike how it used to. I am using xiaomi eu and I updated to the latest version thru the update app but still having the same result. Has anyone encountered this or have an idea on how to fix it? I see lots of similar issues with xiaomi phones but of different model on google but I can't find anything useful.
Thank you

Sounds like there's and issue with charging port and daughter board, if you've done a reinstall. Does the same thing happen when charging from a laptop or pc?

Ah okay, that's really strange, I was thinking it might be the port but if it works fine on USB then maybe not, and you've tried a completely different plug and cable aswell?
Do you use any battery charge limit apps?
If you are like me flashaholic, then sometimes with dirty flashing rom gets messed. Try flashing stock (fastboot rom) miui to teset everything to stock and then see if it charges normally. If not there could be hardware issue
With regards to the replies above..
I've only flashed once to Xiaomi EU. I've also tried a different usb-c cable
I notice that when I plug my phone to my laptop, it keeps getting disconnected and reconnected for any small movements of the cable
Sometimes I get fast charging when I perform a restart so it starts to charge
I don't use any battery apps or any cleaner apps

Sometimes I get fast charging when I perform a restart so it starts to charge
I don't use any battery apps or any cleaner apps

Sounds like the charging port has an issue, the fact if it is connecting disconnecting from movement of cable points to it I reckon
Hello,
Have you solved your problem? I have the same insue and I can't solve it, the last option was to flash the last oficial global rom (fastboot methdo), but it didn't solve it ...
Thank you.

So, I have this issue on my another phone poco f1 what I did was clean the charging port with some stick and cotton. Basically its a charging port issue, you have to clean the port or take a service to clean port completely or change port this issue will be solved
Mi 9T (Global) have the same issue, i check with USB Tester...
every restart the charging system is reset.
Before restart: 9-10W
After restart: 16-17W
Same adapter & Same cable & same time
Some times the phone not charge at all
Restart solve this issue
When i connect the phone to computer it's not work
Restart the phone when his connected to the computer solve the issue
Xiaomi fix you hardware & software !!!!
Hello
I have the same issue with my two phones MI 9 T PRO, never used USB C before, even 3.5mm jack, i have the error message on the notification and i cannot remove it: "Can't play audio through adapter. Use digital earphones or earphones with 3.5mm plug". when i plug my charger into my phone the fast charge is displayed but it won't charge, The only way to charge my phone is to reboot it and it's charge like there is no problem! but the error message is still on notification but charge with fast charge! I bought my phones march 2020, and the issue appeared since sept - oct. I have the latest update MIUI 12.0.3.
I facing same problem on my mi9tpro with global miui12 what's going on guys how to fix the problem?
Hey guys, I think I have the answer!
Its all about the MIUI optimization, you just have to go into developer options, search for MIUI optimization, turn it off, restart, turn it on and restart again. Everything should go well after this! I hope all of you end with this headache!

Hi,
I've been using my Redmi K20 Pro since November and I encountered a problem where my phone won't charge.
Thank you

Hello team!
I was facing the same problem on a Redmi 3S Pro, and decided to come by and let u guys know my handling of this.
My phone has quiet some years of usage right now and its a bit beaten, but still runs great.
Out of nowhere it decided to not charge anymore, and I noticed it would charge with device off or after a plugged restart.
It decided to work again after i entered fast boot (unplugged) and exited fastboot back into system then plugging.
Not entirely sure this fixed it, but looks like it.
Some notes:
I was trying a couple things like trying to enter safe mode and combinations of plugged/unplugged restarts
I did not factory reset
I did not let it end the fastboot loading (force rebooted somewhere in the middle of loading fastboot)
To fastboot, power off the device, then press power button and down volume
If u dont know what u doing, DO NOT go sticking metals into your usb port to clean it, cause if it charges when off, this is NOT dirt problem. Be advised..
I was able to reproduce the issue (sadly) after playing with normal reboot/fastboot then reboot , but then i tried reproducing the fix:
Unplug and turn off device
Turn on to fastboot (down volume + power)
Now, first time, after entered fastboot screen, i rebooted and it did not work, then i tried again but i had to let it run a bit longer on fastboot screen then reboot for it to work
I know the fastboot performs some system checks while loading, but i don't have much time to keep digging this, maybe another day i'll come back with more info.
I'm guessing its system issue, not hardware (at least in my case).
But now, charging is working even after normal reboots for me, so i think i'm onto something =]
Hope this can be useful to someone.
Happy hacking!
Cheers
Hello everyone , I had the same issue and fixed it .
My solution was to change the usb-c port (daughter board). everything works as its supposed now.
I looked everywhere for software issues , flashed many different roms to no avail.
There was only one rom that tipped me that there was a problem on usb c port though, ita pixel experience rom, it showed a persistent notification that there was something plugged in the usbc when there was nothing there.
once I replaced my port (cost only 14$ for original with fast charging IC) ,and upon inspection of my replaced board under microscope , the last pin on the left in the usb C port was bent in a way that was impossible to see with a naked eye, now I bought a usb c port and soldered it back to my original daughter board and I keep it as spare one.
Hope this will save you your battery and your time.
(if you keep using like this and have to restart everytime for a charge , it will eventually fail , better replace it when you have time , than your phone going off when you most need it)

Question Wireless charging issues

Anyone else facing issues with wireless charging? Since the A16 update my device has issues, wireless charging stopped working.
Strangely when the device is turned off it still works. Also after a reboot it works but just stops after a period of time. Only way to get it working again is a reboot.
Never happened before on previous firmwares so must be related
I think it's due to the sleeping time in the wireless charger settings (in battery settings/more).
Try to disable it.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. However I already disabled that and issue remains. Only way to get it charging again is a reboot.
Funny fact, I "duck taped" the led on the charger so it didn't annoy me while charging during the night so I didn't notice the issues at first. Just wondered why my device needed a refill so soon during the day.
Now I removed the tape so I can see the led and when it doesn't light up I know it's time to reboot my device.
I really think it's because of the .16 firmware hoping next update will solve the issue

Just placed my phone on the wireless charger (official one from Oppo) and it loads. Got A16 today.
@patensas same issue here with version A16. I mean i unpacked my wireless charger and wanted to use it for the first time...did not charge at all - reboot helped. I will monitor this

That's odd. I've never encountered this problem before :O
Mine does charge wirelessly, but it seems like there is no more difference between quiet charging (lower power) and 'loud' charging.
Regards quiet Vs loud charging, I have found no difference either. And I am on A15 still. I had hoped to be able to leave my phone on charge overnight in the bedroom but the fan kicks in immediately and sounds like someone is doing the hoovering! And the fan stays on permanently until you lift the phone off the charger. I.e. useless.
It seems mine is locked in quiet charging, the toggle doesn't do anything anymore. Seems like a proper bug.
Time for little update from me here:
- no issue with wireless charging, always works (except my first time with this charger)
- on normal and quiet mode the fan is super silent, no strange annoying noise whatsoever
- on normal mode charging from 15% to 100% takes ~75-78min
- on quiet mode charging from 14% to 100% takes ~125-135min
