Hey, I used to have the google assistant mapped to the bixby button before the android 10 update and it was great, with one tap I could bring it up and start talking, now after the android 10 update this is gone, I can only map it to google but that doesn't do much since it doesn't start listening unless I press the mic icon on it, does anyone know how to get google assistant back on the bixby button?

Does anyone know if Google just completely axed the Google now swipe up nav ring thing? I really miss this functionality and seems like now all I can do is old home button down to access now on tap, then hit the Google now button to get into now app.
Swipe up works to get to Google Now. There is no ring now. Just straight to Google now. On Tap hasn't even been implemented yet as far as I know.

Are you on the latest M preview? Swiping up does nothing for me, only holding down works. That simply brings up now on tap screen which isn't implemented yet so it only has a clickable button to take you to Google now lol...
I can't swipe up, just hold the home button to activate Google Now. Still annoying the on tap thing comes up first
Hey guys,
I'm looking to get rid of the google assistant on my Exynos Note 8 and replace it with the good old google voice search whenever I long press the home button, similar to what I had on my OnePlus One. Reason for this is that the scroogle assistant is demanding way too much privacy-invasive permissions to simply function, including requiring me to log-in and give access to all my personal data, just to do what I was already doing with the old google voice search on my OnePlus One without any nonsense privacy-invasion. Interestingly, the OnePlus 5 I bought for my mum still has this handy feature in its settings by long pressing the hardware home button, but long pressing the software button still brings up the scroogle assistant.
Anyone know of a way I can assign long press of the Note 8's virtual home button to launch the good old google voice search instead of the stupidly privacy invasive scroogle assistant?
Ok, after several google/bing searches, finally found a perfect and extremely easy solution to my problem, doesn't even require root:
1.) Download and install Home Button Launcher app from the Play Store
2.) Open and navigate to Settings > Apps > Select "Default Apps" from overflow menu > Device assistance app > Select "Home Launcher"
3.) Press and hold the virtual home button to launch Home Launcher
4.) Via its menu, add the "Voice Search" app, remove the "Google" app, and in its settings, check the "<<Auto start mode>> if single app selected" checkbox
5.) Vuala, welcome back google voice search without the stupid privacy invasion ?

Don't hate me for liking Bixby, but I find it useful for some things., or at least I used to. On my GS9, while composing a message, I was able to hold the Bixby button and it would dictate my speech to text. The Note 9 seems to be missing this option, or I am simply overlooking it. Sure, I can just click the microphone button on the bottom of the keyboard, but I like pressing the button.
From what I can tell, you are supposed to open Bixby Home and enable it in the settings menu. The menu option exists on my wife's Note 8 but not on my Note 9.
Is this the "new" Bixby? Is it still an unfinished product? I thought Bixby 2.0 was supposed to add features, not take away.
I am giving Bixby a try too. I just literally set it up a few minutes ago. Disabling my BxAction temporarily.
Samsung rolled out the update to natively remap Bixby's button. I cannot figure out how to get it open the Google Assistant as if I pressed and held the home button.
So far I've tried setting a tap of the Bixby button to :
Launch the Google app but that opens Google with the standard search bar focused for keyboard input.
Installed the Google Assistant app. The icon now shows on my launcher (Nova) but doesn't show in the app selection screen in the Bixby remap area.
Restarted my phone to try and get the Google Assistant icon to show up in the remap area.
I'm probably missing something real simple. Any ideas?

I'm trying to do the same thing. The assistant app does not show on the list of apps that can be hard with the Bixby button.
Maybe Samsung is blocking that app from being used.
This would be sweet, following.
There's an app bxactions it let me remap mine one click and Camera long press Google Ass, volume buttons to.
This is on oreo 8.1.0 se9.5 and you need to use adb for full options

It uses accessibility services which are known to add lag. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hOyBrZqy3N21uoy9nVmbK1i_zyPnIXbs/view You can use this google asssistant shortcut apk shared on reddit to toggle via built-in bixby settings.

Well that was timely! I read the first article about the feature before I posted. I thought maybe it was just my phone.

That's pretty crappy of Samsung -- They have to know Bixby sucks - they let you remap the button but cripple it so we cannot use it the way most would want to.

This worked perfectly. Thank you!!
Spoke too soon. It doesn't support "What's on my screen." So it's missing some sort of functionality somehow.

Yeah bxactions developer implemented it somehow. It is different when you say ok google and when you click its shortcut or widget. You probably dont have screenshot option either. With gestures swiping and holding home is simpler to me and I remapped my bixby key to gcam. Hope you find a workaround though
Hey everyone,
So before the latest update, pressing the AI button would bring up Google assistant and I could talk to it directly.
Now when I press the AI button it brings up Google discovery where it shows you all the things assistant can do but I can't talk to Assistant. I have to press the mic button.
I went in the AI settings and it's correctly set up as press the button to trigger talking to Assistant.
Press and hold AI button is set to talk to Google assistant as well and it actually works if I hold the button.
I haven't changed settings this is the first time I go into the AI settings after the issue appeared. The only different variable between when it was working and now is that I updated miui to the latest version via OTA.
Anyone experiencing the same thing?
Thanks
i have same behavior too.
Same here... After the latest update.
Thanks for your feedback guys. At least now I know it's not a glitch on my phone requiring a reset to fix the issue. We'll have to wait for an update to fix the issue then.
Just go to default apps and set assistant and voice assistant to Google.
