I'm getting annoyed by these notification popups in the Samsung browser. Is there a way to turn these off?
I'm talking about these:
>Settings>Sites and downloads>Notifications> Allow or block sites is turned off
Is there a way to stop these popups completely without having to make a blocklist?
Like on IOS you can turn it off and you wont ever get notified by any site.
The only way I know how is to goto the Google Play store and download the Google Chrome app.

Nope that won't do anything.
Try disabling the location permission for the browser, i never get those pop ups.
Though my previous was pure sarcasm, it worked for me.

Notifications and all the permissions are turned off, still get them.
But thanks to you I saw that "change system setttings" was turned on, turned that off so lets hope that does something.:good:
BTW, did you find a way to completely block them?

The notification icon is a grey "i" in a grey circle.
Will uninstall whatever it is.
edit: went thru the latest astro apk and the notification icon was not in there, so its probably not astro.
I use astro and have never seen this. Not sure what it is that's doing it, but I don't think its astro.

I typed in WonderWall and found and found an app called MSN WonderWall (Wonderful Wall magazine) and went ahead and installed it. Not sure if that's your culprit.

Quick Uninstaller seems to be the culprit according to this.
This happened to me too recently, thought it was a fluke but after seeing this it reminded me. I dont have quick uninstaller so its not the only one doing it.
Are either of you guys using chrome 2 phone firefox extension, or any programs of that type?
Hmmm....I hope this isn't a security thing with C2DM.

Nope, you have to download chrome 2 phone. It's why I asked if you're using the firefox extention. That's not writting by the chrome 2 phone people and you don't know what's happening on their end.
The c2dm api is present, but you have to have an app installed to receive the intent.
In the Chrome 2 Phone combo, your browser extension sends the intent to the Chrome 2 Phone app, and the app displays the notification.
I can right a "happy buttons" app that I tell you displays happy faces, and that's all you think it does, however I can send ad notifications through the C2DM api and have it show a notification like the one you guys are seeing. All without the Chrome 2 Phone extention/apk combo.

No, no, I wasn't implying froyo came with chrome2phone, but that practically every froyo user has installed this and if it what chrome2phone, this would have been more widespread.

Just yesterday, I started getting these weird little bugs crawling around my screen and notifications about Spotlight Player. They are very irritating!
I have tried to Uninstaller Spotlight, but it keeps coming back. I see that it's a widget.
Can someone explain to me why it all of a sudden appeared and how I can get rid of it forever?!?!?
Many thanks.

I had uninstalled it twice previously and it is gone now, but had come back before. Plus, it is also a widget.
It also says it's installed on the Google Play store, but there was no way to Uninstaller it.
If you simply open it and go into Spotlight Player it will stop prompting you.
Why would you want to remove it?!
Its the coolest thing in the phone
Disable it or delete if you have root. If you uninstalled it and it came back you just uninstalled the updates and it could've updated if you have apps set for automatic updates..
Disable through Settings > Apps as it sounds like you are probably stock..

If by "coolest thing on the phone" you mean "most annoying thing that I have no use for on the phone," then I agree with you. If it's so great, then people will download it all by themselves, and won't need an undeletable version of it preloaded.

I am getting this tablet ready to send off to SO's mom for Christmas. I want to make a guide book of sorts to help her use the tablet. I'v rooted it, put nova launcher and gotten rid of lock screen ads. As well as put the google play store on it.
What should I include in the guide?
So far its how to turn the device on/off, and thats basically it :/ I just can't get my self in the head of a non-tech savy elderly individual.
Did you block OTA updates or it might undo all that you've done at some point?
A quick line on what all of the apps on it atm are for maybe.
How to buy a book, show, app
What the various icons in the status bar, notification panel mean
How to change the notification sounds and possibly font size.
Could put some bookmarks in the browser for sites you think she'd want
Got the ota blocked. Thanks for the suggestions. So far I have turning it on, what the home screen is, and app drawer.

Do you mean actually background running or the recent apps on the square button carousel?
If the latter I don't think it's significant, if you look in running apps and cached processes on android though you'll see the older ones that most of them aren't in either anyway. Some of those processes in settings just restart as well.

Is the Facebook app a battery hog? I hear so much crap about that app.
Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.
Detailed Process

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.

Yep and it broke my subs black theme for messages. I had to uninstall reboot and reinstall. All good again. I get concerned when they update the UI because subs applied can crash the UI then we need a factory reset.
touchwiz also updated. the new drop down menu in home screen settings might be new for some people but I downloaded a previous apk version from sammoble.com that already had the notification pull down option. FYI sam mobile uploads most of the apks a lot quicker then Samsung lol.
