Hey guys!
For anyone who wants to try out the new Ubuntu Touch dual-boot, here's how (if your device isn't supported yet):
1. Download and install the attached apk.
2. Edit your build.prop (I recommend using an build.prop editor from the Play Store, but you can also do it manually)
Change the three original lines to look like this:
ro.product.model=Nexus 4
ro.product.device=mako
ro.product.manufacturer=LGE
3. Reboot into Ubuntu Touch!
Notes: A regular boot will boot your device into android, and you will have to reboot into Ubuntu Touch from within the installer app.
You will not be able to boot into recovery without uninstalling Ubuntu Touch.
Your backups may or may not be deleted when uninstalling Ubuntu Touch.
Warning: I own an Optimus G, very similar to the Nexus 4. As devices vary, so will compatibility. There are no promises that it will work well for all devices and I take no responsibility if something goes wrong, though I'm willing to help out if it does.
Edit: Feel free to try on your device, but will work best/only on Nexus 4/Optimus G variants
After changing build.prop to above settings now Ubuntu Dual Boot on Nexus 5 says Downloading Ubuntu (coulnt do that before), will report what happens next

Do you have superuser installed?
That's the only reason I can think of for it to not work.
Make sure that you are running the latest version.

Yes superuser is working fine. It seems to be some sort of a problem due to storage formated differently than Nexus 4?
EDIT: I manualy created /cache/system folder.. now installation went a bit further.. Image of error added.

Try this:
1. (In the app) Options > Delete Download
2. Try to download again, but this time, allow SuperUser access forever.
It could be possible that after a certain amount of time, SU is not giving the app root user permissions anymore. This could cause what you're experiencing.
Already did that since some users reported same error (nexus 4 users) but with no success. using SuperSU like other that had problems.. maybe i should try another superuser app

Probably not considering it requires a device with stock (AOSP 4.2+)/ cm10+ or something similar.

well it is not working for Nexus 5. I tried to put Ubuntu Dual Boot app in /system with no success as the same error occurs
I have installed Ubuntu competely without errors on my Nexus 5. Only it will not reboot.

If you mean that it will not reboot in general, that sounds pretty bad.
If you mean that it won't reboot into Ubuntu Touch, try rebooting into recovery.
It won't reboot in Ubuntu. The phone goes out. And when I turn it on it opens on in cm11.

All I can suggest is to uninstall Ubuntu (not necessarily the app) and wait for it to be ported to your device, sorry.

ok, i have installed UT on E975 (geehrc) following your instructions, it successfully booted but there's no gsm signal ( wifi is working though ). Does it work for you? is there a workaround?

GSM services do not work for me, but that only makes sense considering that the version of UT that is installed with the app is for Nexus devices.
The only 'workaround' so to speak would be to have Ubuntu Touch built for your device.
Unless someone chooses to do so, all we can do is play around with the partially functional OS.
By the way, the Nexus 4 was based off the Optimus G, and that's probably one of the main reasons it even installs properly.

Thanks for these informations and of course, for your work in this thread!
Although, there isn't much working in UT, it's interesting how it looks like!
Btw, is the terminal working for you?

basically create the obb folder and move the 3 files there then install the modified apk, not the one in obb. if your on a rom that cant sideload certain apks (liquidsmooth) you can just move the modified apk to /data/app/.
Also working on mine, I got from play store but had to change dpi to 300 to get past tablet block. Runs fine and I like low dpi anyway
Thanks! Working like a charm
This is why I love android and its community. There is no limit to the things that can be done. HS running without a problem here

In android Pie the Pixel launcher is quite deeply integrated with the "muktitasking" (you know, when you swipe up to see recent apps, I don't know how to call it) I think, so the only way you have to use it is to install a simplified version, without the recent apps function (there was a post on the XDA frontpage some time ago).
If you really want the Pixel feeling, I suggest you to try the Official PixelExperiemce ROM for our device, it's awesome.

Still thinking about it. Not sure if the current dp features are worth losing root and such for. Once the UI changes and the new widgets and such appear, it's on.
I was thinking about it too... But I think that it is dp1 and not stable for daily use... have to wait my friend XD
I'm on it and rooted. Seems ok so far, all my apps work properly.

Does gpay work with root? Also, are the new widgets present?
I'm pretty much going to be waiting a day or two to see what the reports are on how stable it is. DP1 don't always have the best track record.
Other than that I'm not rooted, so I should be fine as far as that goes.

I can't get it to pass safety net, so not sure if gpay works and haven't noticed any new widgets.

Can you please post the patched boot image? I am sure it's magisk patched? I didn't do the full data wipe. I wonder if I should do full wipe of data partition?

You don't necessarily have to do a full wipe, but still I'm going from Android 11 to 12, thought it can't hurt. I can post my patched boot image, but it's always better if you just patch it yourself with magisk manager

yes, I have done it before, and will do it.
So, is it worth flashing? I'm still on the fence it GPay doesn't work, but if most/all others work I may be down.

Usually DP1s are buggy, but I haven't found any real issues at all. All my apps work and Safetynet passes now, so gpay works.
Another thing came to mind. Are bubbles present and working?

It's possible you downloaded the wrong version of the app. If you look at various apps on APKMirror, such as Google Photos, there are many different variants available. You want to use an arm64-v8a version, preferably "nodpi" as that should work with all devices.

For some reason Google made an absurd last minute decision to make 32bit arm apps incompatible with the Pixel 7 at the software level. There is a workaround which I can confirm does work, as I am using it, but to get it to work if you have already rooted your phone with magisk you will have to backup your data and then do a wipe of the device.
The workaround is at this thread

There's a new restriction with Android 13 for sideloaded apps not from Play Store, F-Droid and maybe other stores. I ran into it with an apk from Github. Your error doesn't relate but installing from a file manager is a symptom. In any case, if you think this restriction could be part of your problem search ACCESS_RESTRICTED_SETTINGS for a possible workaround.
@Nnik345 here you can find an answer and imo you should ask related questions better here instead of opening a new thread.
