Navigation bug in Android 10 QPW30.61-21? - Moto G7 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi there, Moto G7 Plus user here.
I was really happy when, a few days ago, I was notified the update to Android 10. If only it wasn't bugged... for me, at least.
I usually navigate via sensor (the option that gives you the long horizontal bar, left is back, up is opened apps, right is previous app), but now it's bugged.
When I swipe right, in fact, when inside an app it tries to go to a random setting page (but it immediately closes, with "App not available" message). On the home screen, nothing happens.
Anybody else with the same issue? How could we solve this? Do we only have to wait for an update?

when I updated the phone I made a hard reset because the system was buggy

I'd prefer not to. Let's hope in an update soon.
Incidentally, today the random app is Maps. I wonder why.

Maybe try clearing cache of moto actions and moto home launcher ?
With how slow updates come to these devices you might be waiting awhile ..

Hard Reset + Android 10 = Still full of bugs
I also have Android 10 QPW30.61-21
I did a hard reset but this don't solve the problem.
In addition to the navigation problem with the gesture bar, the system don't take the launcher that I installed as default. Neither before nor after the hard reset.
I found that uninstalling* the factory launcher in my user, would force to accept the launcher that I want by default, and although it succeeds forcing default, this leaves the phone without navigation buttons.
CONCLUSION: Not being able to use an alternative Launcher, and navigation errors (home, back, recent apps) are system BUGS...
*ADB Shell: pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.motorola.launcher3

I've got the same issue with a lot of apps swiping right.
I just got the Feb security update and the same thing.

Moto app was updated in play store today. Installed reboot. Gmail seems to swipe right back correctly now.

I just updated my phone and still have the problem with the launcher I installed, but if I use the default one, I can swipe the navigation bar to the right and switch between applications without any problem.

it appears default launcher needs to be set manually . Whereas before by installing a new launcher would pop up the "use as default" option, when hitting/swiping home, you have to manually set it now .
also one button nav is for sure bork'd for all but stock launcher.. and the new gesture's are going to be a pipe dream at this point.
for unrooted devices...

I also had this problem and I waited for updates, but after April it didn't change anything I decided to restore it and the problem disappeared in addition to feeling that it got faster

Eu também estava com esse problema e esperei sair atualizações, mas depois da de abril não mudar nada eu resolvi restaurar e o problema sumiu além de ter sentido que ficou mais rápido

Why is one button nav disabled on the Android One version?

I got my X4 yesterday, and tried to enable one button navigation, but the option isn't listed anywhere. The Moto site says it's disabled. Is there any reason why? Could it be enabled with a ROM?
I have no idea, I contacted Motorola about the issue and they say it has nothing to do with them and I should contact Google. When I contacted Google they say it has to do with the app and I should contact Motorola...
You can enable it with Nova launcher, but when you do, you lose the nav bar, and the only way to get it back is a factory reset (so far).
Create a widget in Nova launcher.
Nice launcher - activities
Moto actions
tutorial.onenav.onenavtutorialactivity
Launch it. Do the tutorial. Can't remember if it crashes or not at the end. But you have to reboot phone. After reboot, nav bar will be gone, and you will be using one tough navigation.

You are the man! Worked perfectly thanks so much!
Thanks!!
Yep, thanks! Don't know why I would ever want to reenable the nav bar.
You can also use QuickShortcutMaker to do this
Go to Moto Action
com.motorola.actions.tutorial.onenav.OneNavTutorialActivity
Follow the tutorial and at the end click on activate to enable the feature
Will this also enable "Moto Key"? I'd like to enable this for use on my android 1 so I can unlock my windows computer with my fingerprint.

After the tutorial I selected to enable it and then I rebooted. The nav bar is gone but the one touch isn't working. It's impossible to work the phone without the back button and home button.

Try rebooting it again? Or go thru the steps again and make sure it's actually enabled. I've been using it with no problems for over 2 months now.
Or try the widget the other person mentioned.
I went through the tutorial again and this time it didn't crash and as soon as it was done the button started working. Now after several reboots it's still working fine.
The one thing I noticed is that there are no settings for this available in the moto app and no matter what I do I can't get the phone to sleep like in the tutorial. The rest seems to work.

Is there a way to turn this off and re-enable the nav bar? I'd like to know if it's possible without doing a hard reset.

I’m also curious about this. I used the quickshortcutmaker method
I guess that the reason is the Android One program, which has to follow strictly stock Android behaviour (which does not include any kind of fingerprint sensor navigation).
1. Does this still work with oreo?
2. Is it reversible?
1. Yes. Just run adb shell "am start -n com.motorola.actions/com.motorola.actions.tutorial.onenav.OneNavTutorialActivity" twice through without rebooting.
2. You need to erase the data for Moto app in order to revert it.

Yep, that worked. Funny that my wife just started complaining about that the fingerprint sensor should be the home button so just in time. For the "erase the data," do you mean "Clear Data" in the app settings?
You need to do a factory reset, not clear the data and cache in the Moto app.
Does this activity exist as of the 8.1 update? I cannot find the activity using the Nova shortcut method. Have not tried the ADB method, as you have to do a workaround to get ADB in this version.

Home / Recent Apps / Notification Drawer stopped working

So today, after loading an app, my Nokia 8 decided to reboot itself. After rebooting, a few things ceased to function.
The Home button no longer worked. The recent apps button stopped working, I can pull down the notification bar however, the settings button and extending the notification bar to show notifications no longer functioned.
On top of this, Google Play stopped functioning with regards to installing software and you will notice that you cannot access the developer options anymore (as well as all your personal settings being reset!)
Was at a complete loss at what to do... I managed to install the Nova Launcher from an apk file from there accessed the short cuts to the Setting Wizard and re-ran it.
You can re-run the setting with the same email address and as soon as it's finished, everything should be working back to normal. You may need to reset a few preferences (such as keyboards etc / glance screen etc) but at least all the buttons work again.
Step instructions:
- Download Nova Launcher. If you cannot from the google play store, search for it on Chrome and download an apk version
- Install it (you may get a pop up advising you need to let apps installed from chrome, go to settings and allow it)
- Once installed, click on Open. This should launch the Nova Launcher
- Long press anywhere on the screen
- Choose Widgets.
- Look for the Activities widget and hold and place it anywhere on the screen.
- Scroll down to Setup Wizard. There's two, one that's "Setup Wizard" and the other "SetupWizard" without a space. Choose the first. There should be an option under it called ".SetupWizardUpgradeActivity". It might be slightly different for you pending the version OS you have but that's what came up for me.
- Select that to create the widget shortcut then click to open.
- This will bring you to the setup wizard and then just click Next all the way through (turn off any preferences you may have in the past)
And voila. Back to normal afterwards!
Note: You don't need to use Nova Launcher as your default launcher. You can even uninstall it if you want.
Works!
Thank you, this totally worked!
I think Skype crashing and crashing the phone caused this for me. It's getting an uninstall as a special thank you.
Cheers,
Peter
Please help! I don't see any option for setup wizard!

[App][Samsung][Android 9.0+] OneUI Tuner

THIS IS NOT A THEME APP. IT DOES NOT CHANGE THE COLORS OF THE UI! For theming solutions, use Swift Installer or other Synergy-compatible apps.
If you have issues or need a refund, don't leave a review. Labs gives me no way to respond to reviewers. Either go to the forum thread or join the TG group, linked below.
Samsung's One UI got a lot of things right, but it isn't perfect. For example, you can no longer do things like enable seconds in the status bar clock or change the QS header count using Android's hidden settings.
OneUI Tuner aims to fix these problems by using Samsung's comprehensive theme engine. It's not a theme, though. Instead, OneUI Tuner allows you to do things like setting the QS header icon count, set your own custom clock format, or even restore the old Recents menu from Android Oreo.
The best part? This app doesn't need root access. It doesn't even need anything to be done through ADB.
- On 9th generation devices, applying the options from a section will prompt you to install an app. Install it again or reboot for the changes to fully apply.
- On 8th generation devices, if you aren't using Synergy, apply your options in each section and then hit the "Send" button (the middle one) to install the Samsung theme.
- On 8th generation devices, if you are using Synergy, applying your options will import that section's theme into Synergy.
If you're prompted for root access, go ahead and grant it. On 9th generation devices, it will make the installation process easier. Functionality will not be limited if you don't grant root access.
This app is not complete! Options are limited, and the UI is subject to change.
If you have questions, visit the TG group: http://bit.ly/ZachareeTG
Current features:
- Custom status bar clock format (color will not change automatically; there is a shadow around the text to make it visible on light backgrounds)
- Custom QS shade date format
- Custom QS header counts for portrait and landscape
- Custom QS row/column counts for portrait and landscape
- Toggle QS tile backgrounds
- Move system icons to the left of the status bar
- Hide the status bar carrier label
- Toggle lock screen rotation
- Toggle the old Android Oreo-style Recents menu (doesn't work with Samsung's gestures)
- Set the navigation bar height
- Set the status bar height

You're welcome to build it from source.
Used Misc section to modify recents to rolodex vertical scroll, installed the mod, and restarted. Gestures swipe for recents did not work, home and back gesture worked. Swaped button order to rule out screen issue, back and home worked, recents did not. Swaped to navigation buttons and recents button then worked and rolodex cards functionednormally.
Opened the app, deselected the mod, and restarted but recents function retained rolodex format and gestures swipe to recents still did not work. Cleared data, but that did not return the stock recents or gesture. Had to uninstall the mod to restore stock recents and swipe gesture.

Additional note: In the early versions of the Pie beta, swipe to recents gesture did not work on third-party launchers (corrected in later versions). Since I was using Nova, I switched to Samsung launcher, but the swipe to recents gesture did not work there either with rolodex recents applied. Turned that feature off and applied the change, everything worked.

I updated my phone today but the option for the gesture navigation option stays grey and I can't get into the menu. I want to use this nice looking and smoothly working Google bar that I've seen in the beta one ui 2.0 Videos. Is it just for me like this or are there more people with the same problem... The more option tab stays grey, I deleted cache and restarted the phone so many time already. Don't know what it is. Before the update I had a lot of unnecessary apps disabled with adhell. After the update my multitasking window wouldn't open no matter what. After uninstalling adhell it worked again. There could be a connection but I don't know which it it
Samsung seems to of broken something there. It is good news for me for whenever my carrier updates my S10+ to Android 10 as I don't like the gesture crap at all.

On Reddit there is and adb command to get it work, but didnt on mine. I used lawnchair, but Samsung one is raster imo.
In Nova Launcher settings there's a message that the new gestures aren't supposed to work with third party launchers, cause Google implemented a barrier for this in Android 10's source code which checks if the launcher is a system.app or not. Maybe it works on rooted phone with systemized Nova.

Got a link? I'm on Lawnchair too.
On Nova's Discord they said that this won't happen on Nova and even with Lawn chair it doesn't work for everyone. We just can hope and wait...but I have to admit that I tried the old and the new gestures for a couple of days but switched back to the classic navbar because it's easier if using just one hand and also when the phone is mounted in my car.
I'm using Nova and it's fine

Question How to get rid of Nav Bar on Android 11, MIUI 12.5.8 with NOVA Launcher

Hi,
I know this is a topic that has come a few times. I've been researching this for hours, but I'm at my end's wits. If anyone can solve it, I'd be grateful!
Phone: Redmi Note 10 Pro
My setup: NOVA LAUNCHER
MIUI: 12.5.8
Android 11
FNG app (Fluid Navigation Gestures)
My goal: to have navigation gestures with Nova Launcher without the bottom Android Nav Bar
I am aware that since Android 11, they've blocked the usage of system gestures when using custom launchers (why they did that, I still don't understand, but that's irrelevant.) Up until last night when MIUI updated itself automatically, my current config was working:
NOVA + FNG + switch system settings from BUTTONS to GESTURES.
This was working fine: in the phone settings switching to "GESTURES" would hide the bottom navigation button bar, and FNG would be activating the gestures in place of the system.
But last night's MIUI update now increased the level of difficulty. It is now impossible in the phone settings to select GESTURES when a custom launcher is active. When NOVA is the selected default launcher, tapping on GESTURES in system settings gives this message: "Can't use full screen gestures with third party launchers. Switch to the system launcher and turn on full screen gestures?". Tapping OK will disable NOVA and activate full screen gestures.
So, I'm now stuck with BUTTONS NAV BAR, which not only takes real estate space on the screen, but is just damn annoying.
I have tried using ABD command I found in another thread to hide the Buttons Nav Bar:
adb shell pm grant com.fb.fluid android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
But this does not work. I rebooted and all, but buttons are still there.
I do not wish to root the phone because I have never done it in the past, and somehow I fear it would introduce security issues. So I'm desperately trying to find another solution to hide the buttons nav bar.
Any idea?
I have to say, I really do not understand why they are forcing people to use stock launcher with gestures. Why is it a problem that custom launchers use system gestures in the first place? One reason I always enjoyed Android over iPhone is the fact that the system was more open compared to Apple who always made their system so closed and contrived. But I have to say that lately, I have found Android to be more and more annoying when it comes to customization.
Martin
nope. it doesnt work.
let me know if u guyz find a solution for stock miui.
one of the reason i put pixel exp on mine.

Does the app "vivid navigation gestures" successfully hide the navigation button bar with Android 11 and the latest MIUI 12.5.8 using Nova? I see in your screenshots that the bar is gone and you are using Nova, but are you also using MIUI 12.5.8 with Android 11?

I installed Vivid Navigation Gestures and I followed the ABD command instructions, and it doesn't work for me. The buttons bar is still visible at the bottom of the screen, even after a reboot of the phone. Redmi note 10 Pro. Unfortunately this solution doesn't work for me. I'm glad it works for you, and thank you for the suggestion. It was worth a try.

I think so too... Because like i explained in my original message I normally was able to hide the nav bar by simply choosing "gestures" in the phone settings, but then one update happened and it became impossible to use that trick anymore. Since then, I have tried ABD command with FNG gesture app and that didn't work either. And now ABD command did not work with Vivid App.
So strange that they make it so hard to use gestures and hide nav bar when we use a third party launcher. Why don't they want us to use a third party launcher? It's the whole point of Android to be able to customize it... This is pretty crazy.

I cannot seem to find a way to uninstall the launcher update.
use setedit n change value from force_fsg_nav_bar to 1 (on global tab)
Like this
Hide navigation buttons, no MIUI gestures.
If you use something like Piecontrol, Gesture Control or any other app to navigate your phone you might want to disable the navigation buttons. As /system can't be rw mounted we can't edit "build.prop" 1. Magisk, install "MagiskHide Props...

Hi, this helped me: by simply installing this zip in TWRP => TWRP_Hide_Navigation_Bar_v1.0.zip
INFO: Installing the zip again will unhide the navigation bar (revert the change).
EDIT: My zip (to install in TWRP) doesn't work for devices shipped with Android 10(+). Workaround: Magisk! Install Magisk and this Magisk module => Hide_Navigation_Bar_v1.0-Magisk.zip
.., but to another phone (Redmi T9 Pro) Miui 12.5.6
