ATT Pie > Q on N960U - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I've been checking for an OTA update from Pie to Q on my N960U for like a month. It looks for it, but always says "software up to date".
This ATT link seems to say Android 10 is out, and has been since February.
Can I download the ATT (not XAA) Q update somewhere and flash with ODIN? Don't see it on sammobile.

Thats because At&t doesnt post their firmware. This has been addressed 100's of times. You can flash any 960U firmware with Odin and it will provision to your sim.

Yes, I've literally read a hundred posts referencing XAA.
Which leaves the question, then: why can't I OTA? It worked from Oreo to Pie.

For some reason many with At&t devices do not get OTA's...I am one of them. You can try to odin back to a build before the last version that you are not getting updates on. But you have to be sure the bootloader version is the same. All carrier firmware is the same. Just go to Frija and download the firmware and flash with Odin. Dont know why your not finding U firmware its all over the place even on Sammobile. Instead of clicking N960U1 in sammobile click N960U and you can use any of the firmware listed.

Not getting OTAs would quite suck. And yet I've gotten everything up until the CSJ1 release in November. I'm not sure what broke.
Do I then download and ODIN the whole thing every month, for security updates?

Yeah you can. I mean if there is a security update (S) yeah just download and flash everything. Flashing Home_csc will save data if you flash just csc along with bl..ap..cp it will wipe data. To me a clean install is best, I dont mind setting my phone up

Might wanna just check out the thread in the general discussion section bud. That's how a lot of us with AT&T phones have been updating. I just flashed my and my wife's note 9 to the march security path of Android 10 a few days ago. Everything went smoothly ?? I don't know what AT&T's problem is but it's one of the reasons I'm no longer a customer with them.

AT&T Note 9 still stuck on August security build - Odin advice needed

I've got an AT&T branded Note 9 stuck at the Augist security patch. I've tried a few things (clearing cache on software update, setting date forward, safe mode, Smart Switch) and none have worked, so I'd like to give ODIN a try.
Based on the version I'm at now, can anyone recommend the specific files/versions I'll need to use in order to get my phone up to date but NOT wipe my data? I'd be fine with whatever the latest AT&T release is if it means that I might again begin receiving OTA updates.
My current info is in the attached screenshot. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not technically inept, but it's been a while since I flashed an update via unofficial means and never on a Samsung device.
Thanks,
-Brett.
Just download the most recent version of the firmware with SamFirm tool, then flash it with ODIN. Use HOME_CSC and you shouldn't have to wipe.
After checking sammobile, only 1 firmware available for n960u at&t which is that august firmware.

I wonder if they're missing some updates? According to AT&T, this should be the current version:

Pardon my ignorance, but would that put me on a path to no longer get updates from AT&T directly? Meaning, if I applied the latest updates that's not AT&T specific, would that cause me to no longer get updates from AT&T (not that I've been getting even those...) in the future?
Thanks,
-Brett.

So I can go right from my current August version straight to this latest without incrementally doing each patch in between?

Yes just flash away, do a data backup before you flash, cause AT&T will wipe your phone.

In my experience, Sammobile never has the current ATT firmware. They have all the other carriers, just not ATT. Plus it's slow AF to download from them.
That's why I said to use the SamFirm tool to download it. It always pulls the most recent firmware and does it directly from Samsung servers, so it's super fast and reliable.

Why would that take you off the ATT update path? I never suggested using firmware that wasn't specific to ATT. You download the most recent firmware from ATT with the SamFirm tool and flash it in ODIN.
In model you put SM-N960U and for region, you use ATT. As long as you're on an official ATT build, you stay on the ATT update path.
The SamFirm tool just pulls the updates directly from the Samsung servers, rather than going through slow-ass sammobile or updato.

That's totally my own ignorance/caution showing. It's been quite a while since I did any sort of ROM flashing and I'm really out of the loop. I was just double checking that what you were suggesting was the latest for AT&T and not a global update of some sort.
Thanks for clarifying. I'll give the SamFirm/ODIN combo a try when I get home from work. I'll be sure to back up first (assuming Safe Switch is a good way to do so?) and hope things don't get wiped in the process. Seems to be conflicting advice between you and Venom0642, but even if it gets wiped it's not a huge deal as long as I'm backed up.
Thanks again for your time!

Yup, just back up with Smart Switch and Samsung Cloud.
When you flash with ODIN, just skip the USERDATA file and use HOME_CSC instead if CSC_OYN. That SHOULD avoid wiping your phone. But ATT is weird, so I can't promise that.

EDIT - I decided to just give it a try. I flashed the AP, BL, CP, and CSC from Venom0642's post above and skipped Userdata. It worked, without wiping the phone!
Current version info attached. Thanks all for your help!

Glad you got it all figured out!!
Will this work on a Note 9 that was originally on Sprint converted to AT&T? I bought this phone on Ebay to use for ATT and the software shows as ATT/ATT/SPR. I am still on October update and want to try to flash the update to at least December.

How to get firmware to flash a Samsung SM-G973U1 (unlocked) to T-Mobile

I've seen a couple of threads about this here, but I'm confused about where I can get the firmware to flash an unlocked S10 (SM-G973U1) to T-Mobile firmware, and they've not really told me where to download the firmware that I need. One thread pointed at S10+ firmware, not useful to me, and the other didn't give any URL for downloading firmware.
Can anyone help me find the right firmware? I've used Odin before, and am fine with that. I also know that I have to have the right firmware for this to work *smile*.
Also, the firmware to flash back from T-Mobile to unlocked would be very useful, since I may want to change back to unlocked at some point. The reason that I want to flash T-Mobile firmware is since I'm still on the May 1 "monthly" Android security update on my unlocked S10. That doesn't make me happy, more than a quarter behind by this point...very disappointed.
Thanks!
There's a firmware thread here:

If the phone is SIM unlocked, the Firmware you want is the USC or XAA firmware... That way it will switch carriers apps and bloatware when you change sim cards...
Search for samfirm on google....
Have Fun!!

Flashing Firmware

I have an AT&T s10 plus and was wondering if I could flash the tmobile firmware from sammobile, or even the bloat free version? It's been awhile since I've done something like this but wanted to double check first before doing so.
Thanks
Yes, I just flashed T-Mobile firmware on my unlocked S10. Got the firmware from SamMobile, and used the patched version of Odin on my Windows desktop, and it went just fine. Did put in the bloat ("User Data"), but then disabled most of it using the CCSWE manager app. Working great, very happy that I finally did this.
Went from the May 1 Monthly Android security update on the unlocked S10 to the July 1 security update on the T-Mobile S10 very quickly *smile*.
I've attached the patched version of Odin, hope that helps.

I was planning on using the odin firmware from sammobile. What does the patched version do differently?

Note 9 update to Pie

I have a Note 9 SM-N960U purchased as used.
It is ATT branded.
The phone is unlocked but has not received any update since more than a year.
Checking for update in settings gives "the phone has the latest update".
I don't mind playing with odin but what firmwares should I flash?
Attached settings screenshot.
Edit: on sammobile latest OS for N960U with ATT CSC is Oreo 8.1.
Can I flash N960U firmware for USC CSC? latest is with Pie

Hey, sorry for opening up this old thread, but I'm going through a similar problem as you were, and were you able to successfully flash another Carrier's firmware to the AT&T?
If your device is unlocked. You should be able to install the Stock US Samsung OS onto your device and it should work perfectly

Question G998U1UEU5BULH Firmware for 998U1

Anyone seen or have the new U1 Firmware G998U1UEU5BULH?
None of the baseband 5 firmware's have been posted yet. I'm still waiting for something to come up cause mine is stuck in a boot loop from when I tried to downgrade to 4AUIP cause I didn't know my phone updated in the background to the new baseband.
I now have a brick until a 5xxxx firmware is posted. However, 5CVAx is rumored for February 9th, but I've still been checking Frija every morning haha
The OTA's have been around for about a week now, my AT&T S21 Ultra have received it from BULE -> BULH. However, I haven't seen a standalone anywhere.
I was thinking it was probably only available via OTA right now. I am wanting to flash my VZW to U1 firmware, but I have already been bumped to the #5 BL. I will wait patiently until it appears.
I have BULH on my u1 s21 ultra with a t-mobile sim card in it. I got it about a week ago, I really haven't noticed much of a difference.
I'm with VZW and on BULJ
I'm on BULJ as well, but I like the U1 Firmware better to be honest. Just waiting on it to be posted somewhere so I can flash the U1 on my Ultra.
FYI...it's out today!
