I ordered and paid for the 9t pro. I informed the seller that I want a new, unused device in it's original packaging. The next day I received an email from the seller saying that they have only one device left and that this device was displayed in a glass cabinet, but that the device was never turned on, and that no customer touched it. I want to believe them because this model (black 6/128) is sold out everywhere else but I would like to now if there is a way to check if the device truly was never turned on?
I would hate to receive a device that was displayed on high brightness in some retail mode and one that every other customer touched
Is there a way to be certain?
Edit: The seller is waiting for my decision... please help
Thank you

U can try with imei checking on https://imei24.com/imei_check/Xiaomi but i doubt that seller will provide imei for u. And im not sure is it possible to find info does device is powered on (especially if device is never connected to network) but u can try with that imei checking site if u have imei, it gives accurate info when device is buyed and when device is activated, as u can see from picture of my device, it is accurate in hours when device is shipped, and when i activated device (day when i received phone).
Risk it man, u can always buy a new display

Are you from Croatia? Me too
What does it mean Activation Time? Is it a point in time when it first connects to a network?
Also, how does it register when it's sold?
Edit: And what about *#*#*4636#*#* and than checking usage statistics? Could this help and would it be deleted if a factory reset is applied?
But a memer on xda said the option to see usage statistics (after typing the code) wasn't available on his k20 pro

*Activation time probably means when device is first time connected to mi cloud with mi account or maybe google account (not sure but as u can see on activation time from pic, my device is registered exactly the same day when i recieved phone - yea i powered phone and immediately signed in with my google and mi account)
* For sold device i mean when xiaomi outbond devices for seller, my device is outbond to seller 19.11.2019 - i ordered 29.11.2019 and recieved 16.12.2019.
*For *#*#MIUI#*#* combination u get CIT mode only test for hardware and some others info but no info for activation date.
Can i ask u where u want to buy phone?

I'm also waiting to hear from the official importer on whether or not they will be receiving additional 9t pro units. At this time they are all out of stock. If they were to receive the additiinal units I would give up on this one and wait for the new lot to arrive and then order
I'm considering the 9t (non pro) from the same store but I'll miss the dc dimming feature... and I also am not sure that the amoled on both devices is the same. Some say that it is others that it isn't, but that's a different topic

I just got my Note stolen a few hours ago, I am so pissed right now, but hey what can I do... I live in Nicaragua, so no warranty and no police claim will get it back for me...
Tomorrow I will call my carrier and see if I can block my phone through IMEI number so the son of a **** that stole it cannot use it...
I never kept my gps enabled unless I was using it so no tracking software will be able to track my phone, I already blocked my number with my carrier so I guess there is not much I can do to track it, but I would like to sign out of everything on my phone, and I was just wondering if I changed passwords on every service installed on my phone would the theif still be able to login if I had checked the "remember me" or "stayed logged in" options?
Thanks,

Try to install plan b from the market. You can install it remotely from Google play using a web browser and should be able to get the GPS coordinates of your phone providing the thief has not removed your Google account. Do it asap to increase your chances.
+1 Good idea, However The phone will need to have internet access to receive the remote download.
Dont suppose you had Lookout installed ?? On my device it is un-installable, and i can remotely turn GPS on / off, Track the phone, Wipe everything, Lock the device, and even make the phone scream !! (useful for when you are tracking and a close enough to hear it)
I hope you get it back !!
Changing the password won't let the thief use any of the services you have logged into. The app should request him for the new password. Do it ASAP!
I feel for you man! Had my iPod touch, Optimus 2X and Galaxy SII stolen!

first of all sorry you, that's one of the worst things that can happen to a phone.
if you think the theft is using your phone only with a different simcard you have the following options:
- try planb (as already mentioned above) to locate your phone.
- if you have a google account on the phone, try android lost that will gain you the full control over the phone including locating it, taking photos of the cameras and wiping the complete data of the device out. its a really great tool .
- if you have a Samsung account on your phone, try the samsung dive website with this you can also do things like locating or wiping data view call logs and so on.
if all the above fail you should change the passwords of all your accounts used on the phone, especially the email accounts. also try to contact your provider, really few of them provide a location service based on the imei number of the device. and also some of them offer the service to put the device's imei number to a ban list so the phone is useless at all because it cant login in to the gsm network.
*EDIT*: go to the police and let them give you a document that the phone is stolen, and the imei and serial numbers. give this document to samsung and they will put the device to a blacklist, so the device wont get service/support/repair anymore.
i hope some of this become useful to you
Best thing would be to:
1- Track it (with the app said above) or with Samsung Dive!
2- Find the perp
3- Beat him with a cow bone
4- Retrieve the phone
5- Send it to me for inspection
Hi guys, thanks for your help, I installed Plan B a few hours after the OP, but still no email...I would gladly beat the crap out of the theif, but I fear I won't see my note again, I have already ordered another one, this time I will install every tracking anti theft app available...
Anyhow, after this, I installed Lookout on my Girlfriends Note, and tried out the tracking, the tracking is not that accurate, it positions the phone within a 2 Km radius...any other app that would be more accurate?
Thanks,
Im using avast and i have to say its working well, it has a ton of features, you can make mobile data persistent with a single text making tracking that bit more accurate
combine it with the screaming feature of lookout and you should be able to hear it if you are close enough.
Try samsung dive
http://www.samsungdive.com
Lol samsung dive will dissapear when factory reset

Little late for the original poster but Cerberus is a nice app too. I got in on a free promotion. I have it activated and don't even think about till I get an email saying that I changed my sim. You can remotely hide the app, wipe phone/sdcard have a login screen pop up appear, record video and or audio and map in real time.
Even though I think tracking your kids is creepy, I can see how some parents would love to install it on their kid's phone.
Thanks again for all the info, I will try all these once my new phone gets here.
I have a question though, all of these tracking apps need data connection on the cel phone's side...correct? What if the theif turns off data connection? Is there one that works with only GPS?
Well in avast, you can remotely activate data network even if the thief switches it off, It also has stealth mode where it hides all traces of being installed.
If you are rooted it can even withstand a factory reset.

I've used GPS trakcing with data off before ...it will track you even if the map does not render...afterwards when you get connectivity the map will be displayed along with your tracking info.
GPS don't requires data connection thogh, tracking won't work without data connection.
GPS fix the position without data connection, but for tracking you need to pass that information to server, which needs data connection.

Unfortunately yes it is possible to do. There's plenty of tutorials for work arounds on how to clear the email linked to the device. I'm not 100% sure if this has changed in pie, but it was certainly possible before that. I hope you manage to retrieve your phone
thanks

so any good reason to invest another 800 usd or so on the next phone?
i mean are there any that provide a decent security against someone just wiping it new :/ ?
First of all that sucks, sorry to hear that.
Second, if there is proper regulation in your country then reporting the IMEI to any operator should make the device useless in your country (it will not connect to a cellular network).
thanks

it seems that is the only choice so far , it just sucks that android doesn't require a password to switch the phone off when locked that would've at least given me time to track the phone with the authorities until the battery went down.
Hello,
Recently arrived on your forum with complete satisfaction and good feedback. I submit today a problem that I hope to solve through your experiences. Here, my phone walk well 1 month ago, overnight the phone does not recognize the chip even trying with another and impossible to activate the wifi.
Thinking it's a bug I reset the phone.
After rebooting, the phone turns on with the device is locked screen, Fortunately I had associated the phone to the MI account. That's when I want to activate this unlock, I need the internet which is logical, so I press opening wifi setting, I turn on the wifi but it turns off after 10 to 15 seconds. What to do I sent an email to XIAOMI waiting for an answer. At the moment the phone is unusable. Someone would have had this problem before? I thank all the members of the forum who looks and helps me. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer you

Hey everyone so i got this mi 8 in compensation for something i did fully know it was locked and i hoped i could somehow unlock it but this is worse than Icloud LMAO
So my question is after trying bunch of Indian videos on youtube nothing worked ofc, anybody has any advice or tip ?
I can provide things such as IMEI and the Lock Code that's it .
You can hire a service to unlock it for you. Just Google Xiaomi Mi8 unlock service.
I believe that they help you using teamviewer. I haven't personally used these services but have read that as long as the service provider has an EDL account that they can unlock it and get it backup and running.
Another option is to contact the person that sold you the device and have them give you their Mi Cloud credentials, then after you have removed the device from their account, you can create your own account and bind the device to your account.
Edit : I just read about a tool called Hydra : You can read more here: https://www.hydra-dongle.com/brands/xiaomi/mi-8-(dipper)/
Again, I have never used these services so buyer beware. Though I am sure it will be worth the gamble if you are only spending $30. If it works then come back and let the XDA community know.
Try online service it takes 1-3 days i did it so many times

That doesn't resolve the issue, his phone is bound to the previous owners account. The issue is not booting the phone to system.
The only real solution is getting the account information from the previous owner.

Hey man, Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro (equuleus) locked with Mi account, dont't know the password neither have a SIM card associated with that Mi account.
Any way to bypass the activation when turn the phone on ?
Sorry for bad english ...
Some months ago, I purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 8 from a local store, here, in Greece.
The device was originally given to my brother who has been using it for about a month or so. He knows nothing about tech in general and I was not with him when he set up his phone, so he created a new gmail and mi account on his own.
A few days ago, he was given another device that he is more familiar with, so he decided to switch to it and give the Redmi 8 to my other brother.
Before handing it to him, he told me to create a backup of his photos and perform a hard reset on it in order to wipe everything in the device. I did so, but when rebooting the device after the hard reset, I came across a message telling me that the device is locked and that I need to log in using my old mi account in order to unlock it.
Well, you may have already understood what the problem is. He doesn't know the password to neither his mi nor his gmail account and he didn't even add his phone number as a password reset backup so there is no way for me to unlock it using that way.
Manual verification doesn't work either, cause the accounts are considered to be new, as there are no previous passwords, emails or any kind of history associated to them.
I searched about it and found out that I had to contact xiaomi global in order to sort this issue out so that's exactly what I did (I tried contacting Xiaomi Greece first but they told me that they couldn't help and that I had to send an email to Xiaomi Global).
I sent an email to Xiaomi describing my issue in detail. In the email I also included everything that proved that I am the original owner of the device, because I understand that without proof they wouldn't be able to do anything.
So I included:
- A photo of the locked device with me holding it
- A photo of the device's box with me holding it
- A photo of the IMEI numbers written on the box and on a sticker that came with the device, which I also included as text (in written form) in the email's body
- A photo of the official receipt that I received from the store upon purchase
- The email that my brother used for the mi account he created (he managed to remember the email but not the password)
After four days of communication, switching to different case managers and with me describing my problem again and again, their final answer was that they simply can't do anything about it, because of privacy concerns.
Keep in mind that I don't want to recover my brother's old mi account, I don't care about it, he doesn't care either. What I'm asking for is to have my legally purchased device unlocked, by either completely removing the mi account that is associated with it or switching it with a mi account that he actually knows the password for.
Since then, I've contacted Xiaomi Global again and again, multiple times, and I always receive the same reply, that due to privacy issues they don't accept any unlock requests. For my own legally purchased device ffs!
I read about similar cases online, that got sorted out without even providing a receipt of the purchase and my case is somehow related to privacy issues and cannot be solved, so I'm left with a totally useless device.
Is there any other way to unlock it, I'm extremely frustrated with their behavior, so much that I think I won't be buying any Xiaomi devices anymore.
I believe there is a mi-tool that will allow one too bypass the activation screen and get into your device os here is a link that can help

I haven't had to try it but people in the mi community have recommended it , other than that I'm sure how else to by pass user login
Unless you remember the user name you can try to renew change the password by logging in on pc
- The email that my brother used for the mi account he created (he managed to remember the email but not the password)
go to https://account.xiaomi.com and retrieve your password by mail and if you connected it to your sim number get it out of your phone and insert it in another one to reserve verification SMS
Hi. I have the same issue. Bypass don't work. Could it be helpful to downgrade the device to older OS? Does anyone has experienced a positive bypass?

If it isn't your account go to
Xiaomi Cloud
Manage your data and devices anytime, anywhere
i.mi.com
And follow the steps, for me it worked perfectly
I have the same Problem, i purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro (ther big one with 128GB Storage) second Hand. The Seller has removed his Google Account but not his Xiaumi Account. So he also has left his Data on the Telephone because he was very busy and asked me to remove it from the Phone.
So it's my first Xioami Device with having a Xiaomi Account and i never had anything to do with such Accounts, only the Google Account that you need on most of all Phones. So i performed a Factory Reset on the Phone and the Phone is now locked by the Xiaomi Account and unuseable. I have everything from the Seller, The Original Box, the original Bill (was originallly purchased in Czechslovakia i think) and the Papers came with the Phone.
Have someone an Idea what i can do? I live in Vienna/Austria and would be very thankful for any form of help to bring the Phone back to Life.
I contacted the Xiaomi Support, i tried some Guides in Youtube Videos with won't work with my Phone or are Fake, tried some Account Unlock Tools.... I have no Idea anymore, maybe someone here can help me out please?

i bought it as a used phone and fastboot means bootloader is locked. is there a way to unlock it via fastboot mode?
To check if bootloader is unlocked, while booting up but before the boot animation, there should be an unlocked lock.
If you can't find that lock then you should go visit a support center or so
If it is unlocked tell me here and I'll help
Unforgently i think it isn't unlocked because i cannot see this unlocked lock at bootimg up. Any ideas?

Just follow the method #1 of the guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...for-merlin-redmi-note-9-redmi-10x-4g.4233977/
(Method #2 is specific for MERLIN devices. If your device is NOT merlin, you can brick it.)

It will lock bootloader again.
If you have unlocked bootloader and want to backup it, just backup the SECCFG partition.
And then, after the "firmware upgrade" just restore the SECCFG partition.

The Bootloader is already seems to be locked, so its no Problem if the SP Flash Tool will lock it again. But its a good Hint, Thank you anyway.
I just want to have a working Device for Daily use because i sold my other Phone and buyed this one as a used one because a friend of mine use the same Model and is very pleased with it. It has some useful functions huawei doesn't provide.
For now i have to use the reserve Phone from a friend of mine, a LG G3 D855 with 1GB of RAM and Android 5. So i will be very happy if my Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro working like it should work.
But for now i'm warned and can everybody strongly recommend to look that the seller of an mobile phone has removed ALL of his accounts from the phone befire you buy it.

Unhappy, neither Xiaomi or Google asks if you want to protect your device asking for password if anybody try to wipe data.
You are right, we need to confirm if everything is clear before to buy.

Hi why is everybody hard resetting their phones the old way, in Xiaomi devices the proper way is to do it thru the settings menu or simply logout the mi account of the device (but offcourse doing it this way will ask for a pasword).
In regards to your quetions you may have to options:
1. Ask the seller to remove the phone from his mi account in https://i.mi.com/
2. Jtag the phone or going for the prior mentioned software https://www.androidjungles.com/download-mi-account-unlock-tool/
Actually if you go into recovery (stock one), it has the option to contact support thru mipcsuite. Once I had the good " the system has been destroyed" screen and they fixed it for me w/o even contacting each other
