Unlocked bootloader from China, unsupported apps - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Hello,
I've been sold the Mi 9 t Pro 256 GB (or k20 pro) by what I thought was a trustworthy store, Phone House.
It turns out the device was sent from China and comes with the bootloader unlocked and Global Rom:
MiUi Global 11.0.5
Stable
11.0.5.0 QFKEUXM
I've realised some apps don't work from Google Play Store (Netflix, Disney Plus and probably more) and apparently it's because the bootloader is unlocked.
What I want is an official ROM with locked bootloader, so I don't have to download official apps from third party websites which I don't necesarily trust.
However I've been told I will brick the phone, because I don't have access to the account they used to unlock the bootloader and install the Global ROM; at least if they forgot to unlink the phone from that account, which I'm told is really common. I just want to own the phone I paid for, which seems quite reasonable to me.
Is there any way I can check if my phone is still linked to the chinese account they used to unlock the bootloader? Has anybody gotten out of this situation and if they did, can they tell me what steps should i take?
Regards.

Can you link your phone with your Xiaomi account and number?
Most of us here wish unlocked bootloader , install twrp and magisk and most of your app problems go away.

If your phone is originally a Chinese K20 Pro then you can only lock the bootloader with the Chinese ROM. If you try and lock the bootloader with any other ROM you will brick the phone
It doesn't matter who unlocked the bootloader. You will be able to flash the Chinese fastboot ROM and lock the bootloader, without any problems. After which you can use the phone completely as normal.
If you decide you want to unlock the bootloader again, you will have issues if the phone is still linked to another Mi account. Some sellers have been good at removing phones from their Mi account, some have not.
If you flash a different region ROM and lock the bootloader and you haven't properly linked the phone to your Mi account before (which is done during the bootloader unlock process), then your bricked phone will be hard bricked and can only be recovered by flashing with an authorised Mi service account.
First job is to determine exactly which region model you have. This can be done with an online IMEI checker. Then download the correct fastboot ROM for the phone and flash it with the Mi Flash Tool, using the flash and lock option.

Re-lock Mi 8 Bootloader after moving from China Stable to Global Stable

Appreciate if someone can help.
I purchased a Mi 8 Chinese version with China Stable ROM, unlocked Bootloader after waiting 372 long hours and yesterday installed recently released Global Stable ROM. Everything went well and phone worked perfectly. However, when I tried to re-lock the Bootloader, (using both XiaoMiTool and Fastboot methods) the Bootloader gets locked but the phone goes into Recovery bootloop every time with a message at the bottom that "this Miui version cannot be installed on this device....." When I unlock the bootloader again (by booting into fastboot and using Xiaomi Unlock tool) the phone boots normally.
So can I conclude that the bootloader cannot be locked unless I move back to China Stable ROM which originally came with the phone? I read somewhere that Xiaomi has disable the re-locking of bootloader just to curb selling of Chinese versions as Global, as some sellers were selling Chinese versions of Xiaomi phones as Global after installing Global ROMs.
I'm having the same issue as you just did. Not sure why the bootloader can't be relocked. I thought the model # between HK and China versions were supposed to be the same..
Recently xiaomi makes some ugly rules about local and global variant device to prevent Chinese device selling globally and global device selling into china. For that user can flash global rom to china variant device and global variant device to china rom, but we have to unlocked bootloader. Device will perform normally just find device will not worked. Also antirollback terrible disgusting too. I have some xiaomi mobile device and selling them one by one. Only keeping Mi8. If I need more secure device, I can buy iphone. I no need then xiaomi device.
People loving Xiaomi because of its hardware and software with up-gradation facilities. But their operating system optimization is really bad. Every update makes device performance different.

Yeah, switching to a global rom on a Chinese variant and then locking the bootloader will result in a brick. But I don't understand why anyone would relock the bootloader since most repair shops find out if you unlocked it in the past.
Relock not for warranty reasons, but to get android pay / NFC payment or other banking apps working. Many of them won't work with BL unlocked.
i read that we need an authorized edl account to relock the bootloader, but now it is impossible to get this account..
so this time i'm very dissappointed with xiaomi.

Netflix app and Google Pay needs locked bootloader.
The Mi Mix 2S has the same problem, it seems this person solved it by using recovery version of global ROM with Mi PC Suite: http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=2943351&page=2#pid27478883
I don't have the device to test it yet, but you should at least be able to keep an unlocked bootloader and use apps that require it to be locked by using Magisk and enabling Magisk Hide on those apps.

I do not know if I can post the link here, but there is a topic in the MIUI forum that gives EDL authorization for just an unbrick. And you must wait for your position in the list.

:good::good:congratulations my friend. I was already sad that I did not understand.
Its solution is simple but of enormous importance for mi8users.
I also did everything ok, but at mi8 it was different. I also received "this Miui version can not be installed on this device ....."
I downloaded miflash unlock .... romGlobal was already installed on mi8 but with blockloaded bootloader it did not work ok.
Now I'm happy and with GlobalRom stable very fast.:good:
Hi,
I try to relock the bootloader with Global ROM install but the phone haven't sign-in with Xiaomi account and it get the same message as your guy "this miui version cannot..." . Now I can't unlock my bootloader to revert it and my phone stay at recovery or fastboot, can anyone know how to flash it back?

Mi8 CN unlocked bootloader questions.

Because of many threads for bricked devices, I`m opening this thread with all questions about risk and solutions (if there is any).
Q1: Is CN version with unlocked bootloader and Global Rom installed will recieve OTA update without problems like re-locking bootloader?
Q2: If everything from Q1 works, what problems we should expect because of unlocked bootloader?
Q3: Is it possible to disconnect device from seller account, flash CN ROM, re-lock bootloader and bound your Xiaomi account in device to be able to unlock it again?
Q4: Can we expect in future solution for re-lock CN version with official global rom or it is impossible at all?
This is what I`m concerned mostly. For sure there is other questions I missed, but this is basically
Q1: Yes (well I read it in the Mi 8 forums)
Q1: Google pay, netflix...don't work, no ubication in the Mi account....
Q3: Yes I did it. First you need the sellers account their password and their help!!!!, then you flash CHINA DEV ROM (not the stable rom) (same version if you are in android 8.1 take care about the version you flash because now china dev is in androd 9) and lock bootloader. When you start the phone it ask for the password of the seller account you have to put it on the phone and have to tell him to erase the device in their account. IT'S AT YOUR OWN RISK I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS BECAUSE YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE!!!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING DON'T DO IT!!!
You can read this: h***s://w**.igeekphone.com/xiaomi-mi-8-what-to-do-if-you-receive-it-with-unlocked-bootloader-and-global-miui/ (Maybe he was lucky and his cell phone was not linked to the seller's account???)
I talk with my seller and now I have the china dev installed with my Mi account and waiting 720h to unlock the bootloader to install the global rom.
Q4: I hope so

chinese rom with locked bootloader to global rom possible?

Hello all,
Yesterday I received a k20 pro from china with an unlocked bootloader.
I wanted to get rid of the spy/bloatware so i went and tried to install twrp to install another ROM, but for some reason TWRP flipped when i installed it (i think i forgot to turn off encryption) and just decided to stop working altogether. Recovery did not work anymore and so i was stuck in fastboot (bootlooping). After some stressfull googling i found out, the only way to get the phone working again is by flashing the (only) fastboot ROM, which was the chinese variant.
I was so stressed out, i forgot to change the flash option in xiaomi flash tool to "clean all" instead of "clean all and lock"(which is the default, fu Xiaomi).
So now my phone has a chinese ROM and the bootloader is locked.
So my question is:
Once i get the bootloader unlocked again (which will take 1 week hopefully), will i be able to install the global ROM (once it is released) or a better, a non-spying ROM?
Also, i tried debloating the chinese rom, but everytime i apparently debloat too much and the phone just stops working and i need to do a reset.
Does anyone have a proper list of xiaomi applications that are safe to remove (trough adb)? the ones i found remove too much.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, once you unlock your bootloader again, you can flash indian global firmware, which has less bloats, google apps and services included, and poco launcher.
For debloating cn rom, there is a tool here, I'll find and link.
May use this for debloating- https://github.com/Saki-EU/XiaomiADBFastbootTools

Hi, this is the program that i've been using for removing the xiaomi apps, however when some of the listed apps are removed the phone won't be able to restart anymore and i have to do a reset.
For now, i manually removed all the removable spyware by hand and installed blokkada to deny communication to xiaomi servers. I don't dare to remove a lot of system apps trough adb anymore since i had to reset my phone 5 times already... i just want to use it now...
Just endure the pain until bootloader is unlocked again then move over to the Indian rom, its much more tolerable.

This is the safest option. Whilst waiting for bootloader unlocking I just uninstalled anything that could be and disabled anything else that could be disabled. There were still many things I wanted to remove that could not be uninstalled or disabled, but decided I could live with them for a week.
After your week is up, you've got many options. If you like MIUI but not the bloat and spyware, then there are MIUI custom ROMs that remove the junk, xiaomi.eu ROMs being one of the biggest. Otherwise there are AOSP based custom ROMs that are stable enough to use.

NO.
If you try and lock the bootloader with anything that is not the original region you will hard brick the phone.
If you have a Chinese phone, then you can only lock the bootloader when installing an official Chinese ROM.
I think only the account used to unlock the blootloader can relock and re-reunlock it.
If you lock the phone, you won't be able to unlock it again with another account.
It is just a safety mechanism from xiaomi.

You don't need an account to lock the bootloader.
Provided that there is not a Mi account linked to a phone, then anyone who has the phone in their possession can unlock it.
When people have bought a phone already unlock, then accidentally locked it, they have been able to unlock it themselves if the seller has already unlinked the phone from the sellers Mi account

So basically it is possible, if one gets a k20 pro flashed with global rom, that if the seller forgets to remove his account from the phone, you're stuck using ONLY other roms? In other words, in order to relock the bootloader and install official chinese rom, you need to contact the seller and ask him to go on his mi account to remove your phone?

Yes there has been a few cases on these forums where this had happened.
However, you can still use official MIUI ROMs, you can still flash the Chinese ROM and lock the bootloader. The problem then is that you cannot unlock the bootloader again if the phone it's still linked to another account.
If you buy a Chinese phone with a global ROM, why would you then want to flash a Chinese ROM and lock the bootloader? You would be better off just buying the phone still with the Chinese ROM and locked, if that's what you wanted.
People have had problems because they've been flashing an official ROM with the Mi Flash Tool and accidentally left the flash option to flash and lock. When flashing with the Mi Flash Tool you just need to remember to change the default flash option every time you use it.
If you never relock the bootloader, then you will never have this problem and can still use official MIUI.

Lock and then unlock "Global" Variant

Hi all,
I had some doubt regarding the so called "Global" variant sold on AliExpress. Is it possible for me to flash the stock Chinese ROM and then lock the bootloader and then later unlock the bootloader and then flash a custom ROM? If yes, my doubt is this, if I wanted to unlock the bootloader after locking it, won't I require the sellers account or whatever he used to unlock the bootloader in the first since that account is linked to the phone?? If so, is there any possible way of removing that associated account and link your own so that it actually becomes your "OWN". Also, does banking apps, say GPay work on an unlocked bootloader???!
Thanks in advance.
Hi, look here Redmi K20 Pro
Read, understand and be careful what you do. I'd NOT recommend locking the bootloader again.

On AliExpress if a listing says global variant, then it's going to be a global model, if it says global ROM, then it's going to be a Chinese model with a global ROM installed by the seller.
You need to make sure you have the Chinese model before flashing the Chinese ROM and locking the bootloader.
It looks like the reputable sellers on AliExpress remove the phones from their Mi accounts, so there is a good chance you'll be able to link the phone to your own account and go through the unlock process yourself.
There's a couple of guides on these K20 Pro subforums to getting GPay to work on an unlocked phone. I'll leave to search them out.

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Bootlooder locked

Hi Guys,
I purchsed Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro from Aliexpress with a Global Rom version but the device is a Chinese version.
The seller had to install global firmware and assosiate my device to other Mi account.
The current situation is my bootloader is locked and I can not use the Mi officially to unlock my device.
I tried to contact to the seller, but he can not assist me (they don't know the Mi account access details to release my device).
Duo to that, I tried looking the internet and found this forum. I have a good technic skill so I start tested all the suggestion the forum has to offer.
First I tried ADB and Fastboot, both are failed with the error - FAILED (remote: Token Verify Failed, Reboot the device)
I also tried miflash but he's requesting Mi account that I dont have the device their. I tried to flash a new fastboot but no success.
I really dont know what else to try, I hope someone here can spred some light on my issue from stoping my device to use as doorstops.
Thank you,
Noy

The device stuck on "Main Menu" MIUI Recovery 5.0 so I can not verified the phone model, but according to the seller page the model is: M1903F11A
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33016509936.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.61.21ef180253I770
I also tried to use MTK to unlocked the bootloader but I had no success to get the device into a brom mode. I can not trun the phone off, Vol+ & Vol- not works.
Is there any difference between the Mi 9 t pro and the K20 pro?
According to the model number, it is a K20 pro.
Chinese device so the bootloader is locked but with a Chinese rom since this is not possible with a global rom.
Same device except less 4G bands for the K20.

If the device is linked to an account that is not yours, nothing to do.
Is it a new or used device?
Check with the seller or send the phone back to him.
The device was new when I purchased it, the seller said there is no warranty on the device and he can not do anything about it. they used outsource company to do the installation of the Global ROM.
Surely there is a way to bypass Xiaomi locked on the bootloader. the Kernel can be overwrite somehow. just need to find the right way.

What you are saying now is inconsistent with your original post.
A long story to get to 'lock with fastboot'.
I'm sorry if there was a misunderstanding, here is the long story:
In 2019 I got this device from Aliexpress with a Global Rom version but the device is a Chinese version.
The phone was in English, working well with Google Play, and there was no issues with it.
In few months ago I wanted to start using Google Pay and my credit card was not approved for some reason, I contact google suppport and one of thier questions was "Have you unlocked your bootloader, rooted your device, or installed a custom ROM?"
So I started to google it, I find that my bootloader is unlocked, so I thought that I will need to lock it to be able using the Google pay service. what was found a terrible mistake.
First I understand that the only legal way to unlock it was using the Xiaomi official Mi program to unlock it. what I was found that I need Mi account with a registered device on it. my device is registered on some Chinese guy that I dont know so basically he's the legal owner of my device. so I start to look for an alternative solutions.
In my knolage with programs, I can handle with complex solutions to bypass this issue. but none of my trying wasn't succeeded. as I mentions I tried many was to bypass Xiaomi servers, now I found Miracle Box that promising to do the trick but its for only registered members. also there are some guys that said they can unlock the bootloader for money, but I dont know how trust they are....
I hope some of you guys can lead me to any idea/solution or something....
Thank you all for your time, much appriciated.

So, since 2019 you have used your device without a Xiaomi account, which severely limits Xiaomi services?
never used Xiaomi services...
Try to erase the data with the recovery or safe mode, if the option exists, but anyway if the phone is linked to an account you will be asked for the password.
Accounts are linked with a phone and email number and when you change the number a message is displayed.
Thank you, already tried it...
Is anyone know somthing about this? https://github.com/Canny1913/miunlock
Is the token is the key to success?
To sum up:
You have bricked your phone by locking the bootloader with a Global rom.
The reboot is possible but paying but when the phone reboots Xiaomi will ask you for your account and password.
Never ending Story.

Users who want to flash their phones need to study how to use tools, which ROMs to flash, etc
Eg, when flashing a ROM by Mi Flash, always uncheck relocking of the Bootloader. Then, if anything goes wrong, Bootloader will remain unlocked and one can still flash another ROM to easily unbrick the phone
