Xiaomi Mi 8 loses WiFi - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hi xda, I don't even know if this is the correct section.
I'm experiencing a problem with my Mi 8 in these days I've never had, my phone sometimes disconnects from WiFi and then he has difficulty reconnecting. The WiFi signal keeps staying on "obtaining IP address" and repeats again, so I have to switch to mobile data until my WiFi comes back. I'm on MIUI Global 11.0.3 Stable (QEAMIXM).
I tried to:
- restart the phone;
- reset the network settings;
- restarting the router-modem;
But the problem still remains.
I read that it may be that the modem router does not support the dynamic IP or MAC address of the new version of Android, but I'm not an expert.
If someone is facing the same problem or knows how to solve it I really appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance

I've been having the same problem.
Randomly disconnecting from Wifi and my network service.
Since the auto-update push to the latest version the problem has gotten worse. It occurs even more frequently and often doesn't connect to any network services.
I've tried removing the Sim cards, changing slots, only having in one at a time.

If you have always been on stock
Change the setting so that the phone uses its actual Mac address and not randomized
If you have used many different roms,
You may need to flash the fastboot version of the latest stable rom ( for your device : Global or Chinese) it restore your persist partition, and all other partitions.
resetting will not fix this issue and neither will flashing a recovery rom. it has to be a fastboot rom.
Do not flash it unless your device is linked to your own personal Mi Cloud account, and the built in flashall batch command completely wipe your device. be sure to un select relock bootloader if using Mi-Flash.
Never flash any persist images that you may find on XDA threads.
Some of those posts include links to personal recovery persist backups . Those backed up images are hardware linked to individual devices, and flashing one of those files will cause permanent issues..

I am not currently using a Miui rom, because I wanted to test that my battery is truly going bad ( It is) So I will have to give you the approximate location. If I am remembering correctly it's in network settings > advanced options > privacy
If you dont see it, download the app called Hidden Settings for MIUI and you should be able to change it to use the actual Mac address.

Please look at this community where I have been posting doing some debugs on what were happening with Xiaomi Mi8 with Android 10.
https://community.cisco.com/t5/wire...onnecting-android-10-to-cisco-me/td-p/4009289
It looks like Xiaomi has deprecated WPA2 in some cases, but not in others. In my case, using Cisco APs I cannot connect until I configure native WPA3 (not even transition mode).
Same seems to happen to Nokia devices.
Weird behavior when you see you can connect to other APs using WPA2, but after doing some debugs with ADB I realized the phone wasn't sending association to AP, so it is not AP vendor fault.
And the thing I hate the most, is trying to open a TAC case with Xiaomi. They do not attend any expert issue but only low-level issues the type of factory-reset your phone and try again. I starting to hate this kind of support. They don't care about their products nor the users.

It's not only about Xiaomi, but all the other brands. It's always impossible to reach to a person with technical knowledge, no matter what device or what tech support you contact with.
I actually don't expect any bug fixes from Xiaomi, since they didn't even care about Widevine L1 certificate while Pocophone F1 users received it.

Wifi problem

Hi dear xpda users. Please help me... I have a problem with my wifi so.. When i use the wifi (browse, facebook, download) the connection is aborting for 2-3 sec and after coming back. This problem comes after i install the new Xxjvu 2.3.6 frimware with 512 pit and semaphore kernel. Please help my problem and sorry for my english.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
It's maybe your box who is joking but if it's your phone make a wipe datas (dalvik & cache partition) and post the results
i had similar prob a few weeks back as in ....my phone would connect to wifi then disconnect.....i unplugged my router for 30 secs, everything was fine after that.
hope this helps you mate
My friend have this problem too.... so... idk... i'll installed this rom to 2 sgs!
as Dustman317 partner says, make the necessary wipes, and if problems persist even so, I would prove that the router issued for a fixed channel, for example, channel 11, and deactivate the automatic that comes standard on routers. This is a fairly common problem when there are many wireless networks around, it creates interference.
If wiping doesn't work, try installing a eclair rom and then the jvu. In the 9000b variant does the same thing since jvs/jvr.
I strongly suspect it is a WiFI router issue. please change the channel to 2 or 8 which in not very popular. start with open network and then move to WEP and stronger based on your results.

[Q] [PROBLEM] 4X does not connect to WiFi under WEP

Hi. Not sure if this is the right place to post but as I am using this ROM, Cannot post in the corresponding ROM forum - not enough privileges.
I would like ask for your help. I have an LG-P880 running Android 4.4.2 with LiquidSmooth LS-KK-v3.0-2014-02-12, Kernel: 3.1.10-CM+(2014-102-12). After flashing the ROM, the phone does not connect to WiFi with WEP. I choose the WiFi connection, enter the key (yes, the key is correct, tried few times), the phone tries to connect but then only says "Saved, secured with WEP" and never "connected". I searched through many forums for a solution. Seems like many models have a similar problem but couldn't find the descriptio for my phone or for this ROM. Most of solutions are as follows:
Wrong key (not my case)
Nulled IMEI - insert new value (not my case)
Change device name in WiFi direct - for HTC One (not my case)
Set correct time, date and zone as it may affect WiFi (all correct)
Some Kernel drivers don't support old WEP protection (could be the case)
I installed WiFi Fixer app. In debug mode it says the following:
Connecting to:"<provider name>"
Supplicant State: ASSOCIATING
Supplicant State: DISCONNECTED
and it goes on like this over and over.
Please note that it connects fine to other networks protected with WPA and WPA2. Some advise to reprogram the router - impossible in my case as it is the company's office and I don't have access to the router/server.
Yes, I wiped cache, dalvik and did factory reset couple of times - the problem remains.
I really like this ROM and don't want to move another, so please advise.
Has anyone experienced this on 4X? Any advice? If it's the problem with the kernel, which drivers would you recommend me to upgrade to?
Its already been stated that support for wep has been dropped for a while due to security. Only other way is to change the security type or go with an old version of android
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
or grab werewolf kernel, it (still) has support for wep afaik, just make sure to find anykernel installer
Thank you, guys. I was almost sure it's because of kernel. guess I just needed some one to confirm it to me.

Wifi woes with the Z3 Compact

Hello all,
Just having an issue with my Z3 compact. The wifi keeps connecting and disconnecting every few seconds. This is a new development and it has never done this in the two years I've owned it. It finds the networks, connects and then promptly disconnects after a few seconds and then starts to look for networks once again.
Here are a few things I've already tried....
I have tested the same WiFi network with my S7 and laptop and they are stable on this network.
I have tried a different WiFi network with the same results
I have downgraded to a previous TWRP backup of my ROM when the phone was still stable.
I have changed the ROM completely with a factory reset and new custom ROM flash
None of the above has worked so far so not sure what has happened and if this is a possible hardware failure of the modem? Is there a modem file that could possibly be flashed?
Thanks for the help.

This has been mentioned several times in the Q&A thread, and @toxic-hero even posted a fix
Thanks Didgesteve,
I have tried the Legacy DHCP Client fix in the developer settings and I've also done a "Network settings reset" under Settings > Backup & reset before rebooting and still no help. The issue persists and I'm at a loss as to what the hell has happened here....
Same problem... I still have guarantee, so I flashed back the original up-to-date firmware and the phone was sent back to the local sony service, and I'm waiting for it.

WIFI stucks on "Obtaining IP-Address" after Flashing

Hi.
I've used my Mi5 for two month with the Global Dev Rom, no Problems.
Then I wanted to try Lineage OS, unlocking and flashing was fine but when I wanted to connect with my Wifi, the Phone can't obtain an IP-Address.
Meanwhile I've tried everything obvious: Restart the Router, try to connect with other Routers and WIFIs, Flashing other Roms (Lineage, miui.eu, cyanogenmod, china stable, china dev, global stable, global dev), others Kernels - everything works but the WIFI
Has someone an Idea whats wrong with my Phone?
Thanks for Help!
i dunno if this will helps.
Go to etc/firmware/wlan/qca_cld/ and rename wlan_mac.bin to wlan_mac.bin_bak.bak
Hope it helps!
Have you tried connecting to some other wifi ?
Same issue. My wifi only works on official MIUI and on .eu (haven't tried any other MIUI roms). However, on Havoc, Pixel, LineageOS.... nothing. Its able to find the networks and attempt to connect but theres an authentication errror (password is well written tho) and it can never connect. Just like you, I have tried using different wifis (even without password), reset router, change wifi channel, 2.4/5ghz, different firmware for the phone... nothing seems to work.
Any idea?
PS: the antenna and the charging port flex on the device has been replaced because it didnt have good cellphone reception, so it might not be the original from xiaomi. Im not sure if this might be causing the problem.
Thanks for your help!

Cant Turned on WIFI/BT, Already Flashed for BT still not working

Hi , its been a year since i bought xiaomi mi 9-global rom(128GB) and all work properly.
if im not mistaken the first rom when i bought is MIUI 10 , then the last time i update if im not mistaken is around september in MIUI 12.02 for the latest security patch.
Suddenly problem occurs recently maybe around a week. where my Wifi & Bluetooth disconnected by the system and cant be turned on but it fixed it self as i restart and now its never fixed.
I already some of fixed below :
- Restart devices
- Wipe all data
- Factory reset
- Try to flash the ROM from official one MIUI 12.02
- Following some tutorials that reset bluetooth and wifi settings
- Try downgrading MIUI version to 11
but still didnt work the Wifi & Bluetooth setting always crash & cant be turned on , try CIE or CIU test found out that the proximity sensor also didn't work.
I also tried some tutorials that do in EDL mode to install persist mode but its not working due to the Authentication it says" i dont have the permission"
Is there anyway i can fixed the Bluetooth & Wifi in this device?? The Mobile Data is still working and other features still working except Proximity Sensor, WIFI, Bluetooth.
Is the only way is to let the xiaomi store fixed it?? this is my only phone so i need it alot and the office store probably going to take long since pandemic.
Please help me Xiaomi Pro's out there :crying:
Edit :
- my xiaomi account already match with the phone the proof is i can unlocked OEM using the xiaomi. But it seems i still dont have permissions to flash EDL.

I think it's safe as miui could be.
But be shure to follow step by step and take right rom version. If it's working you can flash original miui or custom roms.

I think, if you have done a really clean flash with formating data, that it's a hardware problem.

yes, i did i already follow the instructions & having no error at all for the ROM and other stuff except the WiFi & Bluetooth.
But for me its just really weird, my phone looks still great from outside no bend, dent, or crack it never fall as well.
The problem starts occurring by itself like the system is forcing the Bluetooth & WiFi to off then at some point the WiFi is connected but not transferring any data after restart everything fixed then its not working at all, which when i tried to turn it on it will freeze or the system not responding or off by itself.
btw appreciate your answer, i'm still waiting for other solution if possible :crying:

In my personal opinion there're 2 possibilities
Damaged hardware
Or
Modem Partition wrong or damaged
MODEM or RADIO - the phone's radio
Also called baseband, it is responsible for signals and on older devices may control wifi, bluetooth, and GPS (on most newer devices, these are handled by the kernel and ROM). Upgrades are country dependent and may improve or diminish battery performance, network signal strength, and roaming capability. It is also sometimes required to have a minimum Baseband version to use a ROM so that the RIL will play nice with the Baseband.
Modem firmware is a mini-OS for the cellular radio chip which has its own processor. Firmware is a general term, firmware exists for a lot of things on phone. The wireless chip for WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth often has a firmware as can the GPU core among other things. These firmware files are usually located inside the SYSTEM or VENDOR partition. The modem firmware is special because it has its own separate Baseband Processor (BP) so the firmware is left out of the system image in its own partition.
Modem is not an Android-specific partition. It is tied to the hardware of the phone, but the kernel has a code allowing Android to interact with the hardware. But the baseband processor (BP) - which runs modem and is responsible for all communication through mobile networks e.g. call, SMS and internet - is totally isolated from Application Processor (the one we call CPU) and is not governed by Android kernel; it runs an independent RTOS.
May it helps you for getting a solution....

Maybe i just dont have any other option except to fix in mi store.
