Finally esim support from Verizon - Google Pixel 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

It appears the Pixel 4 finally have esim support on the Verizon network. I tried switching it over yesterday but the tech support was closed already. Will be doing first thing Monday morning.

Why did you need tech support? It looks pretty straightforward to me. Scan the code and install eSim number. I wonder if I can use a physical sim for one Verizon number and the eSim for another on Vzw. Then I can drop Fi finally.

I needed tech cause my current number is attached to an iPhone esim and I needed them to be able to transfer the number back to the Pixel.

Are you sure about that? When I transferred my phone number to another phone via eSim it just asked for my phone number (I think.. now I'm not sure exactly) but I had the activated phone turned off and then just enabled eSim on the new phone and the phone number was there. The old phone eSim was deactivated. I think the message was something like if you install the eSim here then all other eSims will be deactivated. Maybe with Verizon the process is different but it's basically the same as switching physical sims. You take it out of one phone, put it in another and done. Heck, turn off the iPhone and try to activate the eSim on the Pixel see what happens. (easy for me to say lol)

Thanks. Let us know the messages you get either positive or negative. I'm wanting to try this out too even though my situation is slightly different.

Could you post a link? I've checked on Verizon and there is nothing on using an eSim for the pixel 4. The only thing I see online is that the pixel 4 isn't compatible with eSim

https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/google-pixel-4-update/
Has to go through tier 2 tech support since no one knows what they are doing. Also, make sure you are updated to best software 200405.005. I didn't realize I wasn't updated when I tried and it wouldn't work, so will have them switch it tomorrow.

Even from the link you posted it shows they're clueless. To have to go through that nonsense when it should only take a scan of QR code is absurd. I'll wait a few months for them to clear it up.

I agree. On an iPhone it's just a simple QR code scan and you're done. I'll wait until Verizon figures out how to do it right.

Last week I activated eSim with T-Mobile. I first had to call and tell the rep EID of my phone. Then I went to settings>network... and then next to mobile network, I tapped + sign and followed the steps. (I did open T-Mobile esim support page which had QR code or I could type some info myself.)

Yes, it did.
A day before, I put physical sim into an iPhone to test. Then next day I wanted to put the sim card back into my Pixel 4 and at that time I remembered about eSIM . Called T-Mobile and when the rep entered EID of my Pixel, he told that that the phone we talk on(iPhone) will get disconnected and it did. He did notify me if the sim is inserted into Pixel 4, to remove it... looks like it is best to remove the physical before connecting eSIM.

Verizon Re-activation issues after Plan change.

So like everyone else, I bought my Nexus Carrier Free online and just popped in my sim from my M8 and it worked.......up until 30 mins ago when I called in to make a plan change. For some reason, I could not make a plan change online so I had to call in. They recognized that my phone was not a VZW phone and I believe took it off the account to make the plan change.
Now it pops up with a message that says Sign into Verizon wireless, and your Device can not be activated. Not sure what to do at this point.
I have already tried restarting the phone and no luck. I think if I pop my sim in my old M8 it might work but I am stuck at work and cant access it until I am off. Any ideas?

You can't make plan changes with a non-Verizon device tied to your account. They probably moved the sim to make the changes. If you're lucky you can reactivate the sim in your M8 but I'd bet you're going to have to get a new sim. Next time just take the sim out of your Nexus, put it in the M8, make your plan changes, and then switch back. I've done this a few times with an old Moto X.
That's what I figured. Well as long as they don't block my Nexus from network access, I should be alright. I hope at least. I wait till I get home and keep my fingers crossed.
Glad I saw this. I will be making a plan change before swapping to the nexus when it arrives
UPDATE. NEEDED TO ACTIVATE MY OLD PHONE WITH NEW SIM. If you want to make a plan change, pop your sim into your old phone, make the change, then into the Nexus,
I have an major issue, I don't have a Verizon device to use to activate my Sim on my nexus 6. I have service already but my Sim got damaged and the device I used to activate my Sim card the Sim card port is damaged, which is preventing my new Sim activation. I don't know anyone with a Verizon device I can use to activate the new Sim. Guess I'll just cancel my vzw service. I can't win for loosing.

Thats wierd for my store they know me as the rooter (hence the name), and when they see me coming in. I bring in my nexus 6, and the sales rep just takes one of their in store phones activate the sim that way and then i pop it in the nexus 6. Done that twice now with no problems.

That was my issue in the thread referenced - after failing to get beyond the website, people on the phone (including Tech Support) and people in the store, I obtained someone's Moto X in order to activate the nano SIM on my line and then swapped it to the Nexus 6. The other option was to wait until Verizon recognizes the phone (hopefully soon), but I decided to do it early because their SIM activation process is more of a hassle than it needs to be and wanted to thwart Verizons controls, in just this little way .
And yet, some folks - especially towards the current end of that topic - have been saying that they found friendly and helpful Representatives who helped them activate directly with the Nexus 6. I don't know how that was accomplished due to the system checks in place, though.
Finding someone who can lend a phone just to activate the SIM on your line might be a consideration.

Hm, someone else might know better than I would, but I've moved phones temporarily off an active line - replacing them with an older 3G backup phone with completely different SIM - in order to use the newly freed phone to activate my new SIM on another line on behalf of a different phone. Then I just reactivate the 4G phone back on its original line after putting its original SIM back in.
For the Nexus 6, I still have the Moto X on hand from the nano SIM activation and it no longer shows up in my account for the line - instead, I get that "unrecognized" phone message from Verizon with no picture. For all I know, this Moto X is no longer considered active on my line or in this account, so might work for your line activation purposes if you're in the NY metro region, actually. PM if interested.

Finally got my nexus activated. I had to go to Walmart and buy a 4g prepaid LG transpyer I then used my imei from my old note 2. I'm now gonna return the LG to Walmart and get my 80$ back.
Same Issue Today
My finance saw Verizon cutting the data plan by $10's so she jumped on it and kicked my phone off the Verizon network in the process. Had to go to the Verizon store and get the guy to grab a return phone, program said SIM and pop it into a phone. Too bad my backup phone doesn't take the small SIMS...

[Q] switching from TMO to Verizon?

Hi, I'm interested in switching my N6 to Verizon from T-Mobile. However I input my IMEI on the VZW website checker and apparently the phone (bought at TMO and allegedly unlocked) is incompatible.
I vaguely recall that to get a non VZW phone onto there network, one ahs to use a previously registered sim from another phone. Anyone know if and how this works?
Is there something that starts with 990?
My verizon nexus 6 order shipment email shows the imei start with 990
Theres a few threads that explain how to do this and more than one way. I did this for my dad. Basically, u need a verizon nano sim activated and jus pop it in.

As someone who has done this... it causes other problems because you have an "unknown device" they basically wont let me me changes to my plan because of it. For example enable advanced calling. After *****ing at them for an hour someone said there is a form we can fill out to register your device on our network so it doesn't show that way.... they said it takes 1-3 business days to process and i did it on Friday. If it actually works i will make a post on it. to inform the masses.

First, thanks to the mod for moving this to the Q&A section! I will remember next time...
I actually decided that, if I can, I would like to move to Straight Talk with my Nexus 6. I ordered a $0.99 CDMA activation off their website (with free delivery, I felt this was a cost I could swallow if it doesn't work out!). The Nexus 6 IMEI doesn't get recognized as compatible on ST either which means, I suppose, that they can only activate Verizon-registered IMEIs.
Not sure how to proceed from here though. I have an iPhone 5S which is ex-Verizon (now T-Mobile) from which I could activate the ST service, after which I can put the SIM into the Nexus 6 to see if it works. There are no other options to the ST service I want, so changing service isn't an issue. Are there any other ways to approach this? Perhaps I should do what JustusIV is doing and register the phone with Verizon first?

Yeah, I think the easiest way for you would be to just activate your sim card in the iphone and then move the sim card to the Nexus.
I have verizon, and all I had to do was cut my microsim from my previous device down to nano size and put it in the Nexus. The only issue is, like they said above, MyVerizon registers it as a "Non-VZW Device" which can cause issues with making account changes. I'm interested to hear the results of the guy above that says he can fill out a form so it doesn't show up that way.

This was a bust.... more miss information from the crap customer service.
Went through the same thing. Unless your imei starts with 99 it won't be recognized from vzw. However, all the features do work as advertised. I had no problem adding advanced calling 1.0 and changing voicemail options on my account. I bought the phone through a relative that was on t-mo in december. Been on vzw since.

Dual SIM?

I've read that it will have a traditional SIM slot as well as the eSIM slot. Previous versions didn't allow them to be used simultaneously. Sounds like the 4 will allow that? I currently use a Note 9 international version with Dual-SIM in the US with T-Mobile & AT&T. Wondering if I purchase through T-Mobile (or direct from Google) - can I use them with the eSIM and AT&T with the nano SIM?
Thoughts? Guides? Links to more info? Much appreciated!
The word was it would be DSDS rather than DSSS. I've seen no confirmation of that yet although the commits are there and a Google engineer openly commented about ongoing testing. I'm hopeful but also looking for some confirmation.

Not 100% sure what you're asking but if you tell it to "ask every time" you dial then a screen will pop up asking you which sim you want to use when you dial a number. You can change that so that one is the default all the time but then to change the dialer sim you will need to go back into settings.
Yeah, that's the Pixel 3a method, I have one so I'm familiar with the options. Samsung has a similar base setup but if you don't set a default it puts 2 dial buttons in the dialer, one for each line. Doing that you can simply dial off of whichever line you want on the fly instead of having to select from the toast. It's a cleaner setup that saves a step. I've been hoping it made it in because it was an acknowledged feature request. Maybe next time...

Oh got ya. That sounds cool. I'd like to see something like that. Definitely would save a bunch of dialing steps. The toast is problematic at times.
Has anyone gotten T-Mobile to work on eSIM with another carrier on a physical SIM? According to a XDA thread on Pixel 3a XL, they did this.
I have T-Mobile working on the physical sim and Fi working on the e-sim, but it's not simultaneously.
In Italy next week i will ne able to try a eSim... I will update you
Can confirm I could not transfer my eSIM to T-Mobile by giving EID. The tech support claimed it needs to be a T-Mobile bought phone. I bought an unlocked Pixel 4 xl. I wonder if the boot or system img tailored to the T-Mobile versions could get the eSIM to work.
TMobile does not support esim yet, according to TMobile. I tried to get a Tmobile purchased 4xl to use the esim.
So, if I'm GoogleFi I can have my GoogleFi account running from the eSim and also get an additional SIM from GoogleFi and have both slots active with Google Sims? Is that correct?

eSIM problem

hello, i bought new verisons pixel 4xl from ebay. i wait 60 days to unlock it (1th photo) phone offer itself to activate eSIM(2th photo). before eSIM phisical sim worked fine but when i try to activate eSIM by QR code, it locked phisical sim too. (3th photo)
Did you actually get a eSIM from Versizon? They probably need your EID #
When I brought my unlocked pixel 3 to Verizon they sent me a qr code over email. It didn't work when scanning it to activate the esim. Eventually I called them, they started the process again and sent a new qr code. The second qr code worked and I successfully activated my phone. Maybe try contacting them again and asking if they can try activating it again or sending a new qr code. Also, there should be 2 imei's for your phone. I believe you give them the second one listed on your phones packaging. If you gave them the first IMEI that could be why activation isn't working as well.

I find that hard to believe. There is not a single Android phone that works with eSim on Verizon currently. iPhones, yes but not any Pixel or Android. If you actually got eSim working on Verizon on your Pixel 3 then post a screen shot like the one below. Naturally, you won't have DSDS but that's beside the point.

I see. Well just to clear things up for others reading this you cannot use an eSim on Verizon with any Android device currently. The only device that works with eSim on Verizon is the iPhone. Hopefully, that will change shortly since eSim is rolling out to every device.
Apparently people have done it though.

lol. That's an iPhone. That thread is over a year old and it's referring to when the iPhone just started supporting eSim back in January 2019. The iPhone got a system update that allowed the eSim to be used and Verizon, obligingly, enabled it for the iPhone exclusively. That thread has nothing to do with Android and the first screenshot is of an iPhone. As I previously stated, eSim + Android + Verizon is a no go currently.
Just for historical value, the iPhone was DSDS from the get go. The Google P3 / XL could use eSim but only on a carrier such as Fi, international and ATT, reluctantly, after a while. But it was only single standby until the 3a / XL came out. Then we got true DSDS which continued with the P4 series. The Verizon P3 and 3a had their eSims disabled along with bootloader lock so you couldn't even enable it because there is no root. I believe the P4s have the eSim enabled but I wouldn't know for sure.

Will my esim unlock also if I unlock the sim-lock with adb?

if it's verizon and they are still doing on the 5 what they did on the 3, then probably no. On the 3, pretty sure the way verizon avoided issues with people running off with their not fully paid phone (using esim) was to have them made without an esim chip.
do you have the box yer verizon came in? does it have an 'EID xxxxxx' on it? then no, pretty sure it cannot ever happen.
cheers

I bought that on Kijiji, just got scammed *crying. It did happen,it asked me to have the QR code from verizon once I open the esim button...
But I wonder if it works fine with sim card or not?Like can I put att sim card in?cuz I am currently in EU,I bought this phone there.I found it works well with my eu sim card, but not sure about that.
And third quertion, can I use verizon's sim card ?And did the soft-adb unlock the 5G module as well?

that's a whitelisted phone, probabily just didnt unlock it,I contacted verizon once, asked them whether they could unlock that for me or not, they insisted that I need to have the account lined up with the phone, they cant unlock it if I cant provide that..
There is no way to unlock the esim from career-lock?
best regards
@Tommyelela -- Every Verizon rep seems to give different info in my experience.
Bug the crap out of them until they give you the same answer multiple times.
Never know, best of luck!

I'd suggest read this thread. Even if you manage to get the device carrier unlocked, again, doesn't appear as though the vzw versions have an esim chip in them. If that is true, then there's nothing anyone can do to make it work.
cheers

That is not true. The P5 is eSim enabled no matter the carrier. The link you provided is for the P3 which is a different animal. The first eSim enabled Verizon Pixel was the 3a.

I'm well aware the 3 is a diff animal, and said as much in my initial post. And indicated that 'if it was the same as the 3', because I don't have a 5 and have no idea if it is or not.
All I know is that the 3, the vzw version, you can't enable it. And it appears the reason is that it simply isn't there on the vzw version.
I repeat again, for those that don't bother to look at the eniter 'context' of the thread, my reference is to the 3, not the 5. I'm only guessing the 5 vzw may be the same. I don't know that it is.
cheers

I guess you didn't realize you were in a Pixel 5 forum. That's excusable.. I guess. Your assumption about the P5 being like the P3 is incorrect as I stated. The link you posted is.. oh forget it. Suffice it to say you have no idea what you are talking about. If you have a question about the P5 ask it here.
That was really helpful. Oh well.

typical response, from an a-hole. I realized exactly where I was, and said so right up front. I didn't assume anything, only indicated that 'if it was like it', no asumptions.
and yes I have a very good idea of what I'm talking about, 100% certain.
and I now know another thing, exactly who to put on my ignore list.
