Question about installing twrp - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

So I'm planning on installing TWRP my question is if--
1)If I install TWRP and got on a bootloop can i still use Mi Flash to flash fastboot firmware to fix the bootloop?
or
2)If i have TWRP and MAGISK together then got on a bootloop can i just use Mi Flash to Flash fastboot firmware to fix the bootloop?
and is there any chance that a bootloop can't be fix with a Mi Flash when flashing twrp?
The only experience i had is I Flashing a Patched Boot.Img(magisk patch) to install magisk and when bootloop with magisk i just use Mi Flash.
and the only fix i know on bootloop is Mi Flash.
P.s sorry for my Bad english.

You can flash your fastboot ROM any time to fix bootloop from another reason. Just make sure you uncheck CLEAN ALL AND LOCK option in bottom right corner else you might hard brick. Flashing magisk will need a data format once too i think.

thanks ,yes i always check the clean only. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

I myself have bootlooped a lot in the beginning and fastboot ROM has always been my escape. Maybe you should know one thing i am facing when updating, DO NOT use direct install, download its ZIP then flash in TWRP, after that know that the booting can take a bit longer which might make you worried, mime takes even 3-5 mins sometimes but eventually it boots up[emoji1]

Yes, tried it . and also tried factory reset same issue
Did you flash Disable_Dm-Verity?
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397966811
Flash TWRP, enter twrp, format data, type YES, go to MOUNT, disable MTP and then enable again, now transfer the Disable_Dm-Verity file to your phone and flash it. Then try reboot system.

Sorry I don't know what you mean by f2fs but You just flash the orangefox recovery zip with twrp, i flashed dm_verity just to be safe but not sure if it's necessary. Orangefox is also based on TWRP so maybe fsfs works I'm not sure

My first encounter with bootloops and a nearly bricked device

Before we start, I am on an unlocked boot loader with Stock EU rom along with twrp/magisk installed.
So I went ahead and downloaded the latest full rom from c.mi.com and proceded to flash it via twrp, but before that, I made a nandroid backup just for safekeeping. Everything went well but when I tried to install magisk it gave me cannot mount system error. So i tried restarting Twrp but the whole storage was now encrypted even though I took of pin/password from the previous MiUi version. So I googled a bit and tried different Twrp version but none of them even booted but the original version so I gave up and just restored the nandroid backup and this is where the boot loop problem started.
In the end, I went ahead and flashed the whole thing using miflash which went smoothly but not without me being utterly depressed the whole time thinking that I might have hard bricked my device.
Is there any way I can avoid all this headache in the future when Miui 11 and android Q comes out cause I am pretty scared to even try to flash anything atm.
You need to wipe data after flashing TWRP otherwise you won't boot and also the phone will restore the stock recovery on reboot if you don't flash dm_verity
Check this post of mine it might help.

The problem was that no matter what recovery(apart from one) I tried including Orange fox, after flashing them via fastboot I always ended up being stuck at Mi logo ( even tried fastboot reboot recovery command)

Do you have the Mi 9T Pro?
If you have, only latest orangefox 1.0.0.7 or Mauronofrio's TWRP working for this device. Abhisheks or LR TWRP doesn't work on Mi 9T Pro.

Yup Mi9t Pro user here, and yea for me only latest Mauronofrio's twrp works, but not sure if it will work with Miui11/Q when it is released sometime today
Just googled the orangafox recovery you mentioned, is the one with OrangeFox-R10.0_7-Stable-raphael name?

I think it will work. Because I'm on indian Q Firmware with LOS 17 and there was no issue with Mauronofrio's TWRP.
Yes that's the right orangefox version. I didn't remember the exact name. I tried it once but went again back to TWRP because i grew up with it.

Thanks for the info regarging Twrp. everything will go smoothly this time hopefully.
I also wanted to ask that did you format data after installing twrp via fastboot? I was reading on Twrp thread that if you get encrypted after flashing twrp then you will have to format all data for it to disable encryption. This is the only thing that I am still confused about and I really dont want to format my internal storage again . Can you maybe list steps that you took to upgrade to Android Q? thanks

I have Mi 9T pro like you and flashed Orangefox recovery version _07 and no problem at all, i also flashed disable_dm_verity just to be safe and i believe this is where people get stuck on mi logo, if you flash this file it blocks your system from restoring the stock recovery on reboot and makes your TWRP/Orangefox permanent. Is it impossible to root k20 pro?

Hi there, I have been trying to root my k20 pro for 2 months and I am about to go crazy. First of all I don't want to install xiaomi.eu or other custom roms as they often have bugs. I use the indian version and I ve tried many different versions of magisk and tried both twrp and orange. I also tried disabling the treble enforcement and flashing the patched image but still whatever I do, after the installation, the phone loops back to the twrp page. Can anyone help me solve this?

uhhh just flash magisk if you have twrp
No, it's not impossible. I have a global version Mi 9T Pro and rooted with Magisk.
Find and install the custom recovery that works for you (I found that this recovery worked for me:
TWRP 3.3.1-22 Unofficial by mauronofrio)
then install magisk zip via recovery.
Good luck

9T Pro Global booting to Fastboot after Viper4Android Uninstall...Please Help!!!

Hey all.
Currently running 11.0.1.0 Global Official on my phone. Installed via OrangeFox Incremental update method.
I had some Magusk modules installed before the update. All of them worked after except Viper4Android. So I decided to uninstall.
I selected reboot via Magisk and now the phone constantly goes to Fastboot!!
I manually booted into recovery and decided to wipe Dalvik and Cache. During this process it shows 'NO ROM' under 'Device: Raphael'
I don't know how on earth this happened and can't seem to re-install the rom as it gives me following error:
Detected MIUI Update Package
Support MIUI Incremental Package Status: Enabled
E3003: Can't install this package over newer build.
Update process ended with ERROR: 7
Are you installing onto the correct device?
Guys please help. I really don't want to do a clean install as I have lots os important sms that I haven't backed up.
Please help
Error 7 is because you're probably flashing another region ROM. Unzip the rom and find the Update script file, edit with notepad and rename all lines reading "Raphael" to "Raphaelin" or bice versa. Rezip and flash.

Hey. Thanks for the reply. However this is the same file I used to upgrade from 10 to 11 in the first place.
Also this is the full ROM I believe as I do not see any update script inside the zip.
This is the one I downloaded: https://bigota.d.miui.com/V11.0.1.0.QFKMIXM/miui_RAPHAELGlobal_V11.0.1.0.QFKMIXM_7b25321468_10.0.zip
There should be update script file. Otherwise you'll have to flash a fastboot ROM with miflash and in there maybe try to KEEP DATA and see if it boots

Hey again. So I decided to go the fastboot ROM route with keep data option. My data partition was left intact (THANK YOU!) however my sms and call logs were only restored from the latest cloud backup available (not latest unfortunately).
Thanks again for your help.
Just wanted to check with you. Can I install OrangeFox directly onto this phone now? I recall having issues the first time I tried. Ended up having to install a specific version of TWRP made for the 9T Pro Global version and then install OrangeFox via that.
You'll have to format data i think. Otherwise try, this is the latest for raphael https://files.orangefox.tech/OrangeFox-Stable/raphael/OrangeFox-R10.0_8-Stable-raphael.zip
Unzip the file, then take the recovery.img file from it and FASTBOOT FLASH RECOVERY *RECOVERYNAME*. Once target is sent, press and hold volume up and power button together, once it vibrates release the power button and keep holding volume up, it will reboot to orangefox. Once it boots, copy the orangefox zip file and flash it again, now it will be permanent, then go to manage storage and format data (that where you type YES).
What I'm not sure is if it will boot without wiping data. Otherwise try skipping the data wipe and just flash orangefox twice like above

Ok this is really weird. I sent across the latest OrangeFox via Fastboot. Booted into it. Installed again via Zip. It rebooted back into Orangefox. Wiped data. Then re-started phone and set everything up (second time today :crying.
I then downloaded magisk and booted into recovery to install it only to find out it's back to stock!!???
I really don't want to wipe my data again so any idea as to which TWRP works on this phone? I just tried the mauronofrio one but it boots to a black screen :crying:
Flash magisk before you setup your stuff, magisk will stop it from restoring back to stock recovery.

If you're flashing miui rom (vendor, eu, custom like miroom) using recovery, dfe may be required.
There's a option in ofox for disabling encryption during flash. I keep it enabled every time I flash xeu updates. To my experience, otherwise the the boot fails and returns to recovery again.

There is no need to flash dfe, if you prefer to keep the phone encrypted.
In future remove lockscreen security before updating the xiaomi.eu ROM. Then add the lockscreen security back after dirty flashing the update.
