Rooted vs98027a Android 4.4.2 via Stump Root
Used AutoRec which installed TWRP 2.7.00
Backed up Stock Rom
Mount button is missing
Rebooted into Stock to transfer backup to PC and place "cm-12-20150603-NIGHTLY-vs980.zip" as well as Lp gapps.
Rebooted back into TWRP
Wiped, then Installed the CM Nightly, wiped cache and rebooted.
Stuck in LG Boot loop.
Use buttons to boot back into TWRP, open Restore and It's just a blank navigation window.
TWRP just became ****ing worthless
Tried to wipe and possibly install same CM again. Still boot looping.
Tried getting to download mode, but it reboots before installing driver.
I have not a clue as to what to do next.
I can't get it to mount.
ADB Sideload Fails.
Terminal Command lets me select a blank navigation window.
And my original file structure is in like sdcard/0/0/0/0/0/0/0/0/ etc.
Please help, or at least redeem CM and TWRP's value somehow, because this is bs.
I sort of fixed it.
Restore showed up blank, because within the many /0/0/0/0/0/0/0/0 a new TWRP folder would be made or course containing nothing.
I also learned the adb is this magnificent goddess that can do things even when your phone can't.
Throughout further reading I glimpsed upon something about "loki" files that aren't compatible with specific versions of twrp or something. So If you've also been through this and still feel brave enough to flash a custom, then make sure you get the newest version of twrp...
As for the Restore issue, assuming you have a backup saved on pc, wipe everything then adb push the whole file (TWRP/BACKUPS/BLAHBLAH/BLAUGHESDIHF) to /sdcard/.... then it should show up in restore, if it doesn't then use file manager to place it in the right TWRP directory... You can also use the file manager to move the restore folder to the "correct" twrp folder if you don't have it backed up.
Hi guys, I've been using TWRP for a long time, but this one is a bit of a head-scratcher for me. I'm running stock Android MMB29S on my N6, unlocked bootloader, and unrooted. I decided to install TWRP 2.8.7.1 and then root it with Beta supersu 2.66. The fastboot flashing of TWRP went fine the first time, and I opted to leave TWRP read-only. But I didn't install supersu right afterwards. Rather, I rebooted into system first, and downloaded supersu. When I attempted to reboot into recovery again to flash supersu, I'm finding out that stock recovery has overwritten TWRP. Ok, no problem, I re-flashed TWRP, but this time I allowed it to modify the system (instead of read-only). Now, I'm unable to see anything under /sdcard or any of the other folders when I go to flash the zip. Under the "Mount" Menu, I see that only "cache" is checked. Didn't want to mess with anything there.
Rebooting into system now gives me the "Your device is corrupted..." spiel, which I'm not concerned about, but I really do need to be able to see files in TWRP. Would re-installing TWRP be an option or even a different version of it?
mount system. if its still empty after that, use twrp to locate the right place in the filesystem. yes, like a file explorer app twrp can act
The solution to my problem was actually as simple as just removing the lockscreen passcode. I was wondering why TWRP was asking for that in the first place. Once I removed the lockscreen PIN and went back into TWRP I was able to see all the files. Happily rooted now. :good:
Yes, I know, I should have backed up...but did not. So, this TP, I cannot go into usb mode or recovery mode. For some reason, I get a weird 4 block pattern. Before I messed up, I was able to use TWRP 2.8.3 to load different gapps and roms in the ttinstall file by mounting. Well, I decided Lollipop was not quite what I wanted and wanted to go back to KitKat. Anyway, in my zeal of trying to fix what may be causing the recovery mode issue, I wiped everything and formatted everything...including the ttinstall file. I can still boot to twrp 2.8.3, but honestly, the sequence of invents I have tried to create a new folder called ttinstall and place in there rom and gapps, it will not load. In fact, I'm not sure where the twrp file is located. So, I would appreciate it if someone has detailed instructions beginning with opening twrp 2.8.3. What sd card to use and folder to create where, and so forth. I can mount the TP and load files via the pc, but I don't quite know where they actually go on the tablet. The device shows up as 1gb on the pc and this is a 32gb TP so I know I messed it up. I was spoiled by the TPToolbox when I was able to use the usb recovery mode and make all changes there.
Any help would be appreciated. I did do a search, but I have not found clear instructions for me. I even saw a youtube, but again, it was more confusing. Thanks.

Edit: Well, that was easy. I just set up the ttinstall folder, then copied the rom and gapps zip files there, unmounted, then selected install from the twrp menu (rom first then gapps), rebooted and presto...running again.
I have a question whose answer I haven't found anywhere after a good while of searching.
I'm on TWRP 2.x and want to update to 3.x via flashing the latest TWRP image from within recovery, using the instructions given in the TWRP site.
In recovery, I hit install --> images... --> choose .img file, and then I'm asked which partition to flash?
Now, according to TWRP website, I have to choose "recovery" partition, but there is no "recovery" partition to chose, since I'm only presented one option: "kernel" partition.
My question is:
Q.- Must I choose that kernel partition and flash the twrp.img there? I'm afraid of doing it without being sure I'm not going to brick the phone.
Thank you in advance for a reply.

That sounds so complicated, why not download z3cTWRP3020.zip from here, put the zip on your sd caard, start the phone into recovery (hold volume down while starting) go into install section and flash it.
If you need to get recovery installed from a PC there is an easy option here
Or have I missed something obvious?
Thank you, @Didgesteve. Let's blame my bad English. Actually what I'm trying to do is almost the same thing you suggest: flash the TWRP.zip from recovery; except that, instead of flashing the zip file (built by Who-knows-whom), I want to flash the original img file provided by TWRP themselves. The procedure should be quite similar, easy and straightforward, except that when flashing a zip we don't need to specify a partition, whereas when flashing a img we do. Here, according to TWRP's website instructions, we should choose "recovery" partition, but it turns out that, at least in my case, there's no such partition, only a "kernel" partition. Is this the one?

I have read the instructions on the TWRP webpage, but I think you're being too literal with your interpretation. The way I read that is find the right version (.img) that you want and flash it in recovery.
But why not go for the ADB option? Or even easier the TWRP manger app from the play store?
I don't believe there's anything wrong with flashing or installing recovery from either of the first twwo links I posted above. If you think that developers on xda are going to start messing with TWRP code, for what advantage!?!? If the TWRP files peddled on the forums were corrupt or a securtiy risk, then it would have been spotted. by now. TWRP is a recovery partition, it doesn't have any network access or install any other files. I completely understand sourcing original software where you can, but saying TWRP might be a risk, it all sounds a bit tin foil hat to me
TWRP manager app didn't work on my phone. It installs but won't open. ADB commands wants connection to a computer, installing ADB on it, etc. Flashing a file via recovery should (and I'm sure is) straightforward. I have nothing personal against xda-developers' zip files, except that I've read somewhere here about someone who bricked his phone when trying to flash TWRP via a zip file he got here.
Anyway, though I appreciate your suggestions, this debate is actually off-topic. My question, which remains unanswered, is basically very simple: Is the kernel (and only) partition the right one to flash TWRP.img file to?

If you're flashing a kernel (.img) then you use flashtool in fastboot mode, there's no partition to chose.
I was on 8.9.13 and tried to install 8.9.20 with a zip file trough TWRP. I wan't to get back to 8.9.13, but even when i start my device it is stuck on region which my only option is China, but after that i get into a loop it wont get further.
I downloaded 8.9.13 zip file and want to put it in internal storage but i get many different maps with letters and numbers. When i want to copy the zip file 8.9.13, it wont get on internal storage.
I have my bootloader unlocked.
Please, what am I doing wrong? And what can i do?
Go to the Mitools, download the right rom, and flash it
Or install TWRP and install using the TWRP
