Hello!
I found cheap milestone for sell, but it was blocked by operator (could be stolen, I don't know, the seller says it's because the guy who selled him had an obligation) now I wonder if I buy it can I unblock it? and use it normaly?
only CDMA phones can have bad ESN, so you are most likely looking at a CDMA Milestone (like Telos one).
if that's really what you need, it can't be unlocked but it can be flashed to a different CDMA carrier and should work fine.

no it's a gsm phone the seller says it was blocked after some time he used it... now he is selling it for cheap price because he cannot use it, I'm not sure if it got bad ESN, but it's blocked as I understood from his words, and not for sim as it seems?
If it is gsm and it's locked out, it could be locked out using it's IMEI number which cannot be changed by flashing rom.

so if it's stolen as I guess (even though he says it was blocked because the owner didn't pay the bills) where I will get the IMEI unlock code

What?
I think you misunderstand what an unlock code is. A subsidy unlock code will allow you to use the phone on a different network by switching the sim. This will NOT allow you to unlock a banned IMEI on the same network.
If you want an unlock code, i have had very good service from www.gsmliberty.net.
If you are hoping to stay on the same network, there is nothing you can do to change the IMEI and are out of luck.

well is it possible to change imei? and how will I know which one to choose? also can I use imei from another phone that I'm not using? or it supposed to be motorola milestone one?
it is not possible to (legally) change the IMEI as far as I know.
if it was, that would open thousands of possibilities of fraud, even identity theft in some cases.
for example, many apps, providers, etc. link your IMEI to your bills.
see why that would be bad?
i get from your posts that you didnĀ“t buy the phone yet?
i would advise you NOT TO BUY IT.
it sounds VERY fishy.
thanks, probably I won't buy it even though it costs 60$
I've come across this recently and am curious ( I'm not listing the online selling company) - if a company is selling a new phone that says is tmobile unlocked (unlocked by tmobile not factory), and they are saying is for international use only, BUT the phone has the right bands for AT&T LTE - why would there be a chance of the IMEI being blocked? Because they are saying due to recent unlocking laws in the U.S. the phone's IMEI could be blocked in the future (they say they clear it when they have it but can't guarantee future). From what I'm reading an IMEI is only blocked because the phone was stolen or payment is owed on it - so how can unlocking laws affect this??

i have never heard anything like that before. i dont see how it could be blacklisted since tmobile unlocked it and tmobile would be the only one who could blacklist it

Yeah me neither, but that's what the site/company told me in an online chat session - if the phone has 700mhz LTE then really i should be able to go buy it from tmobile full price, have them unlock it, and i can use it wherever, at least I would think. I don't know where they are coming from with this, does tmobile have a contract with Sony maybe.....
by the phone their site says " This device is intended for INTERNATIONAL USE only! "
I noticed they didn't say will only work outside of the U.S., just said it is intended for international use...........kinda vague
http://tinyurl.com/k8pn6h5
It is not even a bargain.
I'd suggest, stay away.
tmobile does have a contract with sony
I bought a mobile phone from ebay site and upon the arrival of the phone turns out to be closed for the telecommunications company has been sprint communicate with the company, but asked for the secret PIN number and generosity I have tried to communicate with the seller, he said, that he took the phone without a SIM card !!
How i can unlock the phone to another SIM card , will i traviiled to my countre !?
Some sprint phones have sim cards available. I'd probably check and see if the imei is flagged or not.
the phone can only be unlocked for international GSM use by sprint and only if the phone is activated on sprint network. If you can't use it on Sprint netowork, return it or re-sell, but first check with sprint if it can be activated. If it is blacklisted and cannot be activated you can still sell it for parts as "bad ESN" if the seller will not accept the return.
Hey, just bought a Tmobile tab s2 9.7 T817T off of craigslist today for $200.... good deal I think even for a wifi model.. BUT.. it's blocked/blackslisted, Tmobile says large balance owed and the guy I bought it from won't call me back.(go figure)_ So.. I'm fine with using with wifi but I've read about rooting and changing the IMEI .. Anyone have experience with this? I've got 2 Tmobile one unlimited numbers.. and they are now offering a 3rd unlimited LTE for free and this would be perfect for the tab s2.

I believe it is against XDA policy to discuss about changing IMEI and fix blacklisted devices (for obvious reasons, of course).
I hope you can find help somewhere else....
The bad news is that T-mobile is unlikely to restore that IMEI unless someone pays the tab. You might be able to press them on the fact that you are now the owner of the device, but they are unlikely to bend. However, the blacklisting likely only impacts its use on T-mobile since it is for non-payment, not theft, so you might be able to use a pay as you go SIM card on a different LTE network to get service on it.
Worth a shot, and if it still doesn't work, you can always sell the card or use it on a difference device.
As an aside, this is why you ALWAYS check the status of an IMEI before buying, though as you said, $200 for a WiFi only Tab 2 is still a great deal.
On a related item, how would one protect oneself in this situation? I often buy older phones from craigslist and ask the seller to meet me at an ATT store where the device can be examined and I get a chip from the vendor (we are after all inside the ATT Store).
Also, when I sell a phone, I meet the buyer at an ATT Store and ask them to check or bring their own chip so ensure all is clear
Would that have worked in this case?

The SIM card has nothing to do with it - the blacklist involves the device's IMEI. If you are in the store, you can ask the rep to check and see if the device is flagged or if the seller has an unpaid balance. However, T-Mobile has a nasty habit of not immediately blacklisting devices until months later, leaving a window during which the device will work and appear clean, even to service reps, but get kicked off later.
Doing deals at a carrier store is a good idea, though. Most carrier reps can tell you fairly quickly if a device is going to work on their network or not, and even lend you a SIM card to try it out.
There are sites that you can use to check imei including swappa :
https://swappa.com/esn?esn
How much help they really are I dunno.

Swappa's IMEI check is not completely reliable, as it checks for blacklisted devices only. It cannot check if the device has unpaid balance. T-mobile's IMEI check actually includes the information if the device have unpaid balance. So, checking the device on t-mobile site makes it safe enough. I don't know if AT&T provides the same.

I bought my tablet from Craigslist myself. I knew it had unpaid balance, when I checked. But I didn't care since I only wanted to use on WiFi, with some cosmetic defects paid only 150$. It has been working without issue as a WiFi only tablet. I didn't even insert any sim card, for fear that t-mobile might block it !
To protect yourself is pretty simple. With the device in hand ( IMEI) at time of purchase, call customer services using your own phone and request that you are adding another device to your line, give them the IMEI number and have the device setup on your line. Now if something goes wrong in two weeks time, its too late for the them to blacklist it now since you have already added this device to your line via correct channels. Basically from the moment the phone or devices' imei is put in your name then it cannot be reversed or blacklisted afterwards. I use this method all the time and dont need to meet seller in store etc.
I thought the S10 5g was only sold by Verizon. This eBay ad says it's the unlocked model though. Is it legit?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Ga...526055?hash=item469893aea7:g:7pMAAOSww6Nc9fSF
Item number 303207526055
It reads in the auction description that it's from Verizon.
Verizon does not (sim lock) their phones so I'd say it's legit.

The 5g model is sold through Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. You can also buy it through the Samsung website. All phones are locked to their specific carrier, no unlocked phones are sold in the US. Not sure if it may be an unlocked model from a different country?
This is actually not true per say, I have the Verizon model and it works with any SIM I have put into it. It just gives you a message that "this is not a Verizon SIM", still works fine. You can clear the message also.
I have unlocked mine with one of those unlock services online.

So I bought a Samsung S10 5g from Verizon and was activated on it's Network for more than 48 hours and I was told it's an unlocked device. I tried an At&t sim and it was giving me a message" that the device cannot be activated on another carrier at this moment"(something like that). So I called Verizon and they informed me the device is unlocked. So the tech unlocked it again and I received a text message saying that the device will be unlocked once I insert a non Verizon sim. So I did and still giving me that message and it's killing the signal. So I tried a TMobile sim and it worked. With no message or error. Can anyone shed light or advise me on what to do now?
Thanks
