Need some advice. - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi I have just been gifted a note 8 which is the snapdragon model from the U.S but I'm in the UK. My device is a greatqleue, is there any root method or custom roms for this model. I don't even know if it's a Verizon, sprint or other u.s carrier and far as i can tell it's running the XAA csc and the n950U1UEU7DTC3. Hope some one can help clear some things up.

You have a locked bootloader on the SM-N950U1. No custom roms, kernels, and No TWRP recovery.
You only have root for Android Nougat! No root for Oreo or PIE!
Do a xda search for "safestrap" for putting Oreo or nougat back on using Bootloader version 7 and "Extreme Syndicate" for Nougat ROOT (it doesn't UNLOCKED bootloader)!
They're in the "Note 8 Rom section".

SM-N950U Extreme Syndicate Root

Wow. How come there isn't any root method for newer os and how come bootloader cant be unlocked? For this specific device

There are to many things to consider to answer the "how come" question..lol. There hasn't been an unlocked bootloader on a US Snapdragon device for many many years.

Ah, I understand! Shame really, I know of some "soft" mods that work without root like theming etc but it's a shame. And when I got the dtc3 update I noticed it's still on the March security patch instead of april?

Unlocked Moto X questions

Been doing some searching on the Moto X. Two questions that I need help with ASAP.
1. Can the GSM unlocked version be put on AT&T wihtout issue?
2. Since it is the carrier unlocked version can I unlock the bootloader?
Can't find anything out there.
Also, is there still an easy root exploit out there?
I want to pick up a wood backed companion for the Nexus...
Which model?

So basically everything but band 5, if I want to use it on AT&T. That may be worth it to get an unlockable bootloader.
So I am not new at this. Owned several Nexus devices all rooted within hours of ownership. But this multiple versions is confusing the **** out of me. I am ordering the XT1053. Can I just unlocked the bootloader through Moto's site and then go through ADB and flash TWRP or CWN and install SU?

^That is what I have gathered and I am coming from the same place as you. All I am looking to use is Xposed and CandyShop(Zipthemer).

1. Yes. I currently use an at&t mvno and pick up LTE with my unlocked X.
2. Yes. You will void your warranty if you request a code though. Unless you buy the developer edition. Unfortunately the Dev ed is not available through motomaker.
Don't know about easily rooting though. This is the first android I've owned where I haven't felt the need to root yet.

How to Root T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910T

T-Mobile customers who pre-ordered Samsung Galaxy Note 4 seem to be getting it ahead of October 17 launch. T-Mobile is a US carrier and has restrictions like advanced security and locked bootloaders which make it difficult to root a device. It has never been easy to root carrier locked Samsung devices but T-Mobile devices are the most easier to the developers, making it easy to root as it has unlocked bootloaders.

Wrong section. Plus it already exist in right section
NOTE 4
And your statement that TMO has locked bootloader is just wrong. TMO does't have locked bootloaders, unlike some other carriers.

he actually contradicted himself saying T-mobile has locked bootloaders and then stated they have unlocked bootloaders. LOL

This is my first Moto device and I'm not familiar with how to root these. All I know is its a Moto X Verizon exclusive (pig skin edition), I know the SIM is unlocked because I'm using it on At&t. If someone could help me by shooting me the proper links to a tutorial specific to this model phone I would seriously appreciate it. Thanks.

You cannot root it or unlock its bootloader, unfortunately. In the States only the Pure Edition can be unlocked and rooted. Also, it'll likely be a VERY long time until your model gets rooted if it ever does, and if I was a betting man, I'd go all in on its bootloader never getting unlocked. In other words, learn to love it stock because that's probably how it's going to stay.

US Cellular XT1093 can be unlocked, and does Sprint have it yet? If so, it's unlockable. I prefer to say "All variants except Verizon and ATT are unlockable" rather than "Only Pure Edition can be unlocked in the US". Plus it's less words (by one lol).

You're right, my bad. I keep forgetting that USC has it too. Not sure about Sprint.

Are international rootable note 9 phones (DS and 9600) the same for using in the US?

Hi,
I want to buy a note 9 that I can root and use in the US. I have the US version right now and I can't live with it (without root). I need the headphone jack for my car and for getting OTA radio - so the note 10 is not an option for me.
From my reading it is either the N960F, N960FD (exynos for t-mobile) or the N9600 (snapdragon for Verizon)
What I can't figure out is if I get one with the 8/512GB if all the country versions are equivalent for working on US networks
With the 960FD are all the versions the same for using with T-mobile in the USA? Do I need to worry about the country it was intended for/came from?
With the 9600 are all the versions the same for using with Verizon in the USA? Do I need to worry about the country it was intended for/came from?
Do you have any suggestions about how to make sure I get a decent one (an actual new phone instead of someone trying to cheat me)?
Do they all still ship with Oreo? I don't want to go to pie.
Thank you very much for your help and suggestions.
I've got the 9600 single sim. the boot loader is unlockable and u can root custom install if so desire. new on Amazon for around 500ish

Are you running it on Verizon? Thank you for your help.
when i originally bought the phone it came loaded with Android 8.1 all I did was pop in my sim card and go.. nothing else needed to happen. I'm on cricket wireless which is also ATT

one more thing to note my phone was from latin America. when if when you start getting into that I will find something like this in the settings.
TGY/TGY/PCT <---> Hongkong/Hongkong/Puerto Rico
these are also known as CSC. little bit of googling and ur understand a bit more
basically it equates to country codes
I changed mine to Hong Kong, because I've been messing with custom firmware and rooting. still on cricket and living in KY.

The N9600 is a dualSIM device. Are you sure that you purchased a N9600?

Do any good ROM's exist for Sprint version of Note 8 N950U?

It seems like everything is for the Exynos version of this phone. Just got my Note 8 today for a steal practically new for only $100, but the software bloat seems horrible. Just curious if there is any Lineage or Samsung based ROM's that would be a good starting place? All the late reviews in 2019 and here in 2020 says to install an aftermarket ROM on it and you got yourself a great device. Phone details below.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 N950USQS7DTA5 on Sprint in New Mexico USA.

The Sprint store did the factory reset for us, but given that I know my way around these devices I thought I would do my own Factory reset and start from scratch. My last Galaxy phone was the original, so I am sure things have changed since then and wanted to double check with XDA before making any mistakes. Phone currently sits 100% stock.
Any advice on a debloated ROM at the least? Or something else would be great too. Google just sends me here and all I seem to see is N950F devices, but I plan to keep on researching before I flash anything on this device, lol. EDIT: Just saw the US carriers Pie thread too for this device, and that seems to offer a pre-debloated rom.
EDIT: My guess is that there isn't much you can do with this device in the way of custom roms?

Your guess would be correct. The phone is bootloader locked that means no roms like N950F version..

Thank you for the information. Yeah I figured that was the case. Oh well, at least there is a debloated Pie rom. Maybe I can do a somewhat decent job of customizing it. But yeah I was hoping for 3rd party kernels and or LineageOS love. At least it's a better phone than the Motorola G6 that it is replacing, lol. Thanks again...
