Take photos when the light is low, the default camera will give low resolution. And this will give higher image resolution should look clearer.

My experience is the Gcam apps don't use the camera config xml, only the oem camera app that comes with the lgv30. The Gcam ports, some of them, have 'night vision', which work very well in low light shots.

That would depend on your phones setup, but, most have rooted devices with magisk installed. If that's the case for you, then you'd have to have a magisk module that would 'seamlessly' make the changes in your root directory.
In this link I created a module for the 4k video 60fps change. It would be pretty easy for someone to modify the config xml in that module and apply this change.
cheers
Would it be as simple as deleting the folders containing media details XML and replacing the camera config with this one?

In the chromatix libs I've disabled

ASF 5*5 7*7 9*9 - Sharpness the image
Chroma Suppression

To copy libs use Solid Explorer to copy the libchromatix to /system/vendor/lib/
The libmm lib also goes in the same vendor lib folder

Made a few scripts to inject these files without rebooting.
I don't know why but it returns a lot of errors messages but it works nonetheless
I have added shortcuts of these scripts using FX file manager. So I can enable and disable these mods from a tap.
You think this could be done even on other devices?

Go to internal storage and create a new folder "Gcam"
And inside that folder create another "Configs7"
Put the XML in it. To apply double tab anywhere on the black portion around the shutter button
it works.
Is that any better? I tried it and it's closing after every click, and saving only a thumbnail size version of the picture.

also set the interface and model to pixel 3 (blueline)

nope i installed the app and tweaked some basic settings like auto night sight and all but didn't use any config file
also most of the things are working on my device except the top shot option which closes the camera every time i take a picture otherwise video recording, night sight, awb and portrait mode are working just fine
It works fine, but no aux cam detected.
Im very disappointed by the post processing the stock Gcam forcefully adds to every picture taken and im wondering if its possible to disable that in some developer options. Mainly the extreme contrast and sharpening. Google also disabled the function to select a different photo app as default which sucks. I stumbled over sometthing called lib-Patcher for Gcam on Reddit but have no idea how to use it.
I hope someone can help me since that would be the only big negative i noticed on my Pixel 7 so far.
You can do JPEG + RAW to be able to edit the photo yourself.
Open the camera, bring down the menu in the top left corner. Tap more settings, tap advanced. You will see the toggle there.
Note that these photos will still be pixel binned to 12MP.

Yes i know that, but that again requires lots of colorgrading since the "raw" pictures are a grey .dng with some kind of log-profile. If i take the picture and go to the gallery asap i can see the original nice picture for about a second and then it get the extreme sharpening and contrast added. That is the step i dont like. It makes Green grass and leaves look very grey and ugly because it only adds contrast and sharpening to already green mushy blobs. Similar stuff on the Shadows. If its already dark it doesnt need contrast and sharpening.
Hmm I have no idea then.

However, some of the post processing is done at the HAL level. There's nothing you can do to disable that.

The pictures look very pleasing and without the post processing, very nice! But there is no manual mode or am i missing something? EV-compensation for control is fine but i would like to have a slider for whitebalance too, is this not a thing with this app?

White balance would be a post-processing enhancement, wouldn't it?
In any case, contributions (which could be code or feature requests) can be made at the project repository; https://github.com/GrapheneOS/Camera

The post post processing. I can see a very nice picture and then it gets changed AGAIN.
One way is to reduce sharpening and contrast in photos app or snapseed
