While there are loads of random comments about camera apps for Cyanogenmod 7 they are all pretty old and don't seem to amount to an answer.
The camera app provided with Insanity 009 whilst not as good an interface as, say the one from Simply Honey (which I flashed on a friends phone) but it works fine except for video.
Yes it does record 720p but there are chops when the detail moves to much and therefore necessitates a higher bitrate. I am guessing the codecs are responsible for this and its a big ask for a phone anyway... But has anyone knowledge of a better movie camera app?
Is it possible to take the app from one rom's distro and insert it into another radically different one like cm7 as long as they are from a similar base like jvh - that way I could try the camera from Simply Honey for example
HI ,
I have installed most Custom roms available - and one thing that annoys me is how the videos play.
Now i am not being picky or choosy about this but did u notice without the hardware acceleration (SW , SW fast mode) the videos have a microsecond delay to load and then to move scrolling is slow.
In fact on MKV and FLV the video takes more time which is not there in ORiginal Firmware
no problme with officiel samsung rom or custom with samsung . but i have lag or no video with cm9 .
For exemple i have lag with multitask sense 4 with us cm9 rom but with official rom no prob no lag ...
For Devs Roms/kernels
what file can I take the official samsung rom?
Thanks in advance for replies ...
I have the same problem on ParanoidAndroid. I noticed that QuickPic's videoplayer (plays only a few codecs) works just fine without any lag or delay. VPlayer on the other hand is rubbish. I can't even play a 20 minute 480p video (150 MB) without some delay.
The best one i've tried is Dice Player which works fine without any lag or delays up to 1080p.
Where can I found code of official firmware for put it on cm9 rom please reply for help
Although the Nexus 4 works fine for the most part, the firmware seems to have been "rushed out".
Hopefully LG and Google will release an update soon but in the meanwhile it won't hurt if a few brave
souls dive in and attempted to fix things. I myself, learn best by trying to fix broken things, even if I don't always succeed.
I will put together a list of what is broken/needed and update it to the best of my knowledge. Please post to this
thread to tip me on possible issues and solutions. Please include credible links and pictures in your posts.
1) USB OGT does not work.
Google changed it's documentation to state that USB OTG is not supported on the Nexus 4.
Relevant thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966864
Problem:
It's unclear whether this functionality was disabled in hardware or software.
However it was verified that the Nexus 4 is not able to supply power to external devices.
Any future solutions will most likely involve a powered USB hub.
2) FM Radio does not work.
The Qualcom SoC supports FM Radio and it is unclear whether this functionality was disabled in hardware or software.
Relevant thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963623
3) Poor camera performance
Problem:
Low-light performance of the Nexus4 camera is noticeably worse than the LG Optimus 4X that uses the same camera sensor.
http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=5048&idPhone2=4563&idPhone3=4238
Leads:
The camera needs to be properly calibrated. Since that is not a trivial task developers might instead
look into swapping the camera drivers on the Nexus 4 and the Optimus 4X.
4) Voice call recording disabled
Relevant thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2079016
Problem:
The Android SDK provides a Voice Call audio stream for recording. Many great apps already take
advantage of this feature. The Nexus 4 however does not implement this.
Leads:
ALSA could theoretically be used to open a Voice Call interface in the Audio Mixer and routed out to a PCM stream.
The stream could be exposed to the Android SDK "MediaRecorder.AudioSource.VOICE_CALL".

5) Sound recordings are very noisy.
Problem:
Sound recordings, sound on video recordings and the sound of VoIP on the Nexus 4 are unusable.
Voice calls however sound OK so I'm confident that there's room for improvement.
Leads:
I'm using ALSA to look into the Audio Mixer. The recording streams seem to have the LP filter set too low
at 4Hz, I can try changing that. Another theory is that the gain is set too high causing distortion. So far I
did not see a control to enable AutoGain.

6) Ability to switch to a preferred 3G band.
Problem:
The *#*#4636#*#* menu crashes when trying to change the preferred 3G band.
Relevant thread --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2057922
7) (FIXED) The screen colors exhibit a yellowish tint.
Problem:

Solution:
The following kernels allow adjusting the screen colors

everything else is fine
Hi there,
I read several times that the vendor camera apps of android devices would be much better than 3rd party camera apps. The original camera apps usually don't run on custom roms.
Those who have compared the camera apps: Is it true for this device that Samsung's camera app takes better pictures and videos or don't you see any difference? What about focus times (i.e. the time needed to take a picture)?
Best regards!
Both in left side are taken by MagmaNX rom, and both in right side are taken by S7e darklord rom, i didn't see which best
..
AOSP ROMs tend to have worse camera quality than TouchWiz based ROMs. This is because Samsung made their camera APIs closed sourced, which means that AOSP has to use worse APIs
It's the software processing that makes a difference. The camera hardware remains the same on any ROM.
There are some camera apps that use their own software processing. Don't ask me the names, cause I don't remember them.
I have a Samsung s4 i9506 . I want up date android 6.0 please help me
I can't say I've tried all cameras, but my opinion is that stock camera is faster and better than most. Stock camera would be even better if it had more settings, it is lacking a bit there.
I also use Camera FV-5, Open Camera, A Better Camera, ProCapture, CameraPro, I have used them for years but most of the time I just want to snap a good photo fast and stock camera delivers. Better for video as well, with working pause and snapshot.
At the moment I'm running 5.01 with Note 3 camera (4K video and 60fps at 1920x1080), but I'm thinking of trying some custom touchwiz based marshmallow ROM again. Could not get 60pfs @ 1920x1080 to work with any of the Lineage OS based Nougat ROMs I've tried. (I think 4K video worked though, with 3rd party camera). If I could get 60pfs video recording working I'd switch to crdroid or something else immediately even if I lost stock camera.

Do you know any touchwiz based marshmallow rom that works without problems?
I only found this one, but it says NFC would not work:

I still find 5.0.1 runs smoother than any 6.0.1 ROM I tried... tried a couple of S7 Edge, Note 7 etc. ported ROMs... but 5.0.1 (Jumbo ROM) is very smooth for me. Also nice that the Note 3 camera (4k and 1080p60) works flawlessly on it

After reading your post I decided after months of testing newest roms to go back to stock 5.0.1. Camera performance, focus speed, HDR, full HD 60 fps, 4K recording (note 3 mod) everything with this camera is so much better. So I was searching for solution and found it. You can use stock lollipop camera and have latest custom rom installed separetly.
Solution is in dual rom boot that i9506 supports https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534 . So I installed DeHAWK 5.0.1 slim rom, and removed all apps that could be removed. I only want this rom to be used as camera rom only. My idea was to boot it as fast as passible. As a second rom I installed LineageOS 14.1. So I get the latest and gratest features of android os, and I can use samsung original camera app whenewer I want.
Only problem with this approach is that you need to restart os every time you want to use samsung camera which takes 50 seconds. It's not such a big dealbreaker if you cant live withoit it. It takes 20 seconds to shut down Lineage rom and 30 to boot DeHAWK rom. If someone has idea of speeding up shutdown or boot that would be great.
Other benefits, Samsung camera and gallery loads super fast. No delays. It must be because rom is clean with nothing to slow it down.
Few days ago, I had the opportunity to compare two S4s side by side, one with LOS official and one with stock rom. Gosh, the difference is dramatic
The pictures of the stock camera are much much better.
@tforgo: Thanks for your idea with dual boot. However, I need the camera instantly and cannot wait 50 seconds. But it is a good solution for people that have time taking pictures.
Quality management is a hard job and not all bugs can be found from a single (or a few) developer(s) in a practical time. So I want to create a list of bugs we've found in our different provider and version dependent Android versions.
I start with my Sprint G8 Android system:
FW Version: G820d
Bug 1: APN settings are greyed out. Only with service code and ##data# changes in settings are possible.
Bug 2: Don't know how much LG is responsible for this, but in Netflix only DRM Widevine Level L3 is used for streaming. I don't care that much about resolution on a relative small smartphone display,
but at least HDR would be fine for better shades in dark movie scenes. So streaming in Netflix will only happen in SD quality.
Bug 3: DSD audio files will not be played anymore by the G8 natively. Found from the V50 friends in actual Android 10 update, and approved on my device.

The Bluetooth audio codec defaulting to ACC bug from 9 is still present in Tmo Android 10 update. Still defaults to ACC despite aptx and higher allowed to stream on headphones. _NOACC has no effect.

NOACC works on Sprint version since Android 10 update, but the max volume for my bluetooth earpiece is much lower than Android P.
I now use wired earpiece only. :\
Sprint
- Unable to access roaming settings
- Volume slider missing from notification area
- Can't hide nav bar in apps
- Comfort view won't auto engage at set time occasionally
- Playlists ignored by android, despite being in same place
- Choppy video recordings under extended + maximum mode. Also laggy viewfinder in both saving modes
- Roaming reduction battery drain (roaming was disabled before updating)
no duration for call log
No duration for a call in call log. This is major flaw.
My accessibility options crashes when I tap on it...
Oh and Kiwi browser crashes when going to Landscape.
On the T-Mobile be version when getting a pop-up in any browser (such as the page asking to share your location), there is no ability to tap "yes" or "no"." Pressing the back button is the only way out.
