5.Scan Media-simply runs the phones media scanner which I was astonished that really the only way to do this (at least with my phone) was by unmounting and remounting the sd card you have to do this sometimes especially if u download something after you turn on your phone some applications won't find the media unless you do this

8.Pirate Bay Browser- it can be used to search an find torrent files (from pirate bay) it has a very nice interface and works great with utorrent making it very easy to find and download torrents when coupled together

10.Mx Player- it is the best video player I've used great if your having problems playing videos and a million times better than the system player

11.Tiger Arcade- it can be used to emulate mame and neo geo games it can also be used for cps1 and 2 but it didn't work properly on my SGY but doesn't matter since basically every game that was on cps1 and 2 was on mame also you'll need a bios file called neo geo.zip to emulate neo geo games (Google it) anyways this if the free version in order to enable saving you'll need to buy it anyways this app isn't on the play store anymore so I put it on drop box

12.Whatsapp- if you don't have it WTH r u waiting for best instant messaging app on android it's cross platform (android IOS BlackBerry Windows etc) lots of features is just great

13.Voxer- it's a PTT (push to talk) app basically kinda like a walkie talkie you basically hold down a button start talking and that's your friend receives it and the cycle continues no more need to type that's old school lol

14.Viber- you can use it to make voice calls over the internet yes you can use it to make FREE calls over the internet the call quality is great (much better than regular calls) as long as you have a good connection it also doubles as a messaging app though no where near as full featured as whatsapp the main draw is that messages pop right up on the screen so you can reply without actually entering the app

Advice Using Old Tablet as Chromecast "Remote"

I have a rooted and ROM'ed original Kindle Fire that is definitely starting to show it's age but is still somewhat functional. My thought is to turn it into a "remote" for our Chromecast that is laid out to easily find / cast content. Something we can just leave on the table next to the couch. We are cordcutters so it would be especially helpful when we have family in town staying it our house as they sometimes get confused by live TV through an antenna. We already subscribe to Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc and I can use a family member's cable authentication for other apps like WatchESPN, etc. Hopefully the community here can help me out with a few things:
1) Is there a replacement launcher for Android that will work well in this scenario? I suppose I could go with something like Apex Launcher and just customize it to my liking but ideally I would want something that places all the apps in a grid scenario. Bonus points for some kind of integration with Chromecast, or an app that has a widget for playback controls.
2) Any other apps that would help me accomplish this? Remotecast doesn't seem to have a lot of functionality and I can't find any similar apps when searching through the Play Store.

I personally use Dock Folders to organize my shortcuts..
But since you are only using this as a remote why not just put the shortcuts to all the apps on the home screen?
Just about any custom Launcher will allow you to resize the icons if you want...

If you have a home media server of any kind, BubbleUPnP is great.

Shortcuts to YouTube app, Netflix app, Hulu+ app, etc on your desktop would take care of your issue I would think. Do you really need a custom launcher for that?

[Q] Side by side image duplication possible with all apps?

Is there a way to split and duplicate the screen for all games on android?
What are the limitations in place if this cant be done? In my mind this seems like a simple thing. Just take the video output and display it twice. Im getting the gear vr tomorrow. Got an asus gamepad today.

Questions about the mini

I see that the mini has HDMI, two USB and an Ethernet port.
1. Can I plug a 23 inch monitor into that HDMI port and will it be full screen?
2. Also, I have an external 1.5 TB hard drive that had its own power source, can I use that with the mini?
I have an aging HP tower computer that I'm looking to replace. I know that there mini isn't as powerful as a desk computer; I won't be able to compile a ROM for my Nexus 5X, or ruin the latest desktop game. I'm just looking for a system that can run some general office apps, such as I can get from the Play Store, and access the web. I have Amazon Prime so I do stream movies and TV shows.

Thank you. But, what do you mean it's only possible if we have root? I did read in another thread that the latest version took out the Play Store, but that it was still possible to install the Google Play Services. As far as Amazon you can just download the Underground app via the web.

Definitely. I have a 42 in tv connected to mine. Pretty good setup wizard for adjusting screen, scaling, but mine was good out of the box.

Definitely, plus there is a micro SD slot. My external doesn't auto power so I just turn it on when I use it, no fault to the Mini. According to your stated use as a streaming machine, Kodi is very good on the Mini (using Jarvis from Play Store (and the Google Play Store app is loadable from installed app with latest updates; something about Google asking them to remove it stock since Jide weren't doing much to optimize apps but most tend to work anyway) and it came stock on original OS).
So while I have an external drive connected, between Kodi, the 16GB drive on board, the SD card, USB for thumb drive (the other has an air mouse/keyboard dongle), I don't use the external drive at all. Docs and pics best on Google drive anyway and there's an app for that.

Exactly why I got one! Much lower power use, quiet and small.
I still use a tower as my daily because I'm used to it and have a good setup with multiple screens and a desk and don't want to sit on the couch and use a small wireless keyboard mouse for docs and web search, but no reason not to move this to a desk when not using on TV, it's small and portable.

Is there an Android app for compiling? Yes! Then you can probably do it.
Drawbacks: an occasional black screen flicker of a couple seconds; the IR sensor hasn't been developed and it picks up signals from other remotes and does weird things (Vizio remote volume down will make Kodi on Mini run video backwards; soundbar remote makes Mini go into power down mode that can't be cancelled); support troubleshooting is non-existent (if someone replies they'll ask dozens of questions, keep asking for more info, ask for a video of problem, yada yada, but no answers) check out the Jide Support pages and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Yeah, know you mean Kodi.
If you don't know...you be missin' out big!!!
Basically it's more than you can imagine media wise, streamed to most devices (streamed so no P2P downloading, saving and waiting on big files, abuse letters from ISP, none of that). When new to it install on whatever device and then start with a simple addon like Exodus, not a whole special build as that is confusing for the newcomer (blew my mind, too many choices, confusion). That will stream tons of tv shows, movies, sports, etc. Then there are specialized addons for music, concerts, racing, anime, old movies and tv, etc. Initial set up may look complicated but just follow instructions from one of the thousand web pages and/or youtube videos. Even my wife can handle it all once we cut the cable tv cord, and she much prefers it.
Basically it's freakin' amazing and after a decades of paying and it going to $150 a month to watch a couple shows, baseball and formula 1, I feel we've paid our dues (I'd guess $25,000). Still pay $30 a year for the MLB app, and of course the internet bill.

Split screen games without pausing?

I want to run chrome and a game without the game pausing when I used chrome. I read for rog 1 it's not possible. Is it possible on rog phone 2 can more people confirm?

I can split screen without pausing game on Galaxy note 9 with good lock and multistar

Can anyone find out by installing 2 of these games : ingress/ pokemon go / harry potter and split screen them? My goal is to be able to play 2 at the same time without pausing in split screen. Deciding factor for me to buy this phone or not as I do not want to carry two phones around

I have tried PoGo and YouTube. I doesn't pause the game. But when I try PoGo and Harry Potter, HP says it doesn't support split screen

Thanks for testing this. Can you see what happens when you have pogo on and split screen with chrome? Does the game pause on defocus when you start using chrome? To force any game to be compatible with split screen, you can enable developer options in Settings app then enable Force Activities to Be Resizeable so all apps can be used in split screen
In Android pie and earlier, YouTube can run with Pokemon go but using chrome will pause pokemon. If Pokemon go does not pause when you browse in chrome then it means Asus did some extra work ?

PoGo and Chrome works. I have done what you have said but sadly HP still won't go to split screen

Thanks for confirming. I transit so when I do I usually split screen pokemon go and chrome and use chrome while waiting for things to appear in the game to catch. You enabled force resize in developer settings? You might have to restart the phone for it to take effect. That way you should be able to split screen any game that does not support split screen

You enabled force resize in developer settings? You might have to restart the phone for it to take effect. That way you should be able to split screen any game that does not support split screen

I can confirm that 2 pokemons go accs can run at the same time, working together, none of them freeze when using dual screen. Everything works.

Can always rejoin raid without any problem. I always see the rejoin button even in split screen. Either use ASUS' twin app feature or download an app called Island to create a work profile which lets you clone any app
