I'm going to log everything that I do with my Mi Pad 4 to help others. This is the thread.
My plan
A) This
1) unlock it by xiaomi (? 360 hours waiting)
2) flash twrp
3) flash magisk
4) reboot
My plan is to follow this process.
Device: Xiaomi MI PAD 4 - 3GB RAM, 32GB, MicroSD, 1920x1080 Tablet
(Just picked it up)
Hope this doesnt auto-merge. Expect it will.
Wondering how to do this:
"unlock it by xiaomi" ... I will search the Mi Pad 4 forums
I will be figuring out which rooting method is best for my device.

Good Rom with active developer:

There is an XDA app (sideload .apk) with the Xposed framework.. You need to be rooted to install this framework.
Q: Can you use the Xposed framework with a custom ROM .... or is Xposed a custom ROM. Do some ROMS and not others support the Xposed framework ?
Consider disabling Bluetooth for better battery.

I think it's the Bluetooth that's draining... At least on mine. After I disable I can have it off for days and days and only drain a few percent .

It depends on your phone and the OS ROM it's running, but I think most normal, non-potato phones are on arm64-v8a these days. armeabi is for super-old devices, armeabi-v7a is for 32-bit devices, arm64-v8a is for 64-bit devices.
v8a devices can run v7a apks.

Hi,
I just got my Mi Pad 4 plus today.
Unfortunately there is no Google play store installed and there does not seem to be any way to change the language settings beyond Chinese, Indian and English so far.
I know it is a fairly new product, but is there already some kind of global/international rom?
PS: I saw an article somewhere that it should be able to display Netflix in 1080p. Will that change with an open Bootloader or the use of a global rom?
Best regards
Chris

Greetings,
As far as I'm concerned there is no official Global ROM for the Mi Pad 4 Plus.
But, you should ask on the Mi Pad 4 Plus Forum here, since Forum is only for Mi Pad 4.

Ty, I already flagged my Thread for moving, haven't seen the Thread for the Mi Pad 4 Plus.
Actually it will receive the global rom! I was looking for answers and read that the mi pad 4 and 4 plus share the same ROM. So in my opinion I will try to flash the global variant of the mi pad 4.
Global rom / flash / warranty

Have you got any sources, that it will receive the global rom?
I am kind of nervous flashing the mipad 4 global ROM. Since the Mi pad 4 Plus would be a gift, i don't want to lose its warranty claim.
while waiting for the official global ROM, you can just side load apps to have Google services run on your Mi pad 4 plus.
and side-loading google apps will not terminate your warranty, since it doesn't require you to unlock bootloader or root
im planning to buy one but have read it does not support hd in streaming services such as netflix.. is there any way that it could be fixed by installing a global rom or something? kinda disappointing tbh

Sure, I already did that since I need the Google Playstore. But I prefer my OS in other languages than English for my daily use..

The rom for the Mi Pad 4 Plus is the same as Mi Pad 4
Xiaomi.eu made a global rom
I'll try that as soon as they are willing to let me unlock my device. Not my first from Xiaomi but having to wait 30 days seems to be new...
@jupcan
Netflix does work. However you cannot install it from the playstore. But if you download the APK from Netflix all works fine

@Edwin184 but it does not support hd right?
@jupcan,
Don't know how I can check for sure. However I have a standard HD account and if I play in Ultra HD it seems to work fine.
Now I'm running the MIUI 10 Global Beta and sometimes its buggy with the power management for however reason and when I return to the homescreen from watching streams in Amazon prime, netflix and so on.. For sure these are not critical problems and its useable as a daily driver. ??
It's unlocked and rooted with magisk, there are no issues with the fingerprint or faceunlock. And I frosted some draining and anoying applications.
Thanks to the site I found the MIUI 10 rom, TWRP, magisk and the flash Guide. God bless you xiaomi.eu ??

As you can read in the thread - yes.
Interestingly enough...I just got the 4 Plus from an Chinese eBay seller. Great! I started it up. I booted right to the lock screen (no password/lock on it), a quick swipe and it opened up and was running. Hmmmmm.... And it's running MIUI 10.1.1.0 (ODJCNFI). It looks like the box was opened up as there's no security tape at all on it, and then updated and put on a shelf until I bought it.
Looks like tonight I get to see if https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-pad-4-plus/how-to/guide-mi-pad-4-plus-lineageos-15-1-t3893264 will work for me =D
What root and Xposed Setup are note 9 960F Dual sim users using ? Oreo+Root+Xposed OR Pie+Root+EdXposed.
I managed to get root , magisk , edxposed working on Pie On March Security Patch. But the system became unstable after i restored titanium backup data restore. The SystemUI stopped responding frequently and after some troubleshooting i was not able to find a solution.I managed to use a stable system for a brief period of time and it wasnt impressive at all.
The second problem i faced is listed here (unable to setup IRIS,Fingerprint lock)
After a full odin flash , root , I failed in replicating root and magisk due to various problems like : unofficial binaries, etc.
I am thinking of sticking with Oneplus5T and selling the Note 9 . Oneplus speed and setup is addictive. I can live with the inferior hardware.
Before the switch i am thinking of trying root+xposed setup on oreo
How did you go about this? Using the old root methods listed in here? Once you have achieved installation of TWRP, you would be far safer to just flash one of the various custom roms with a good rep and go from there.
Are you on Snapdragon or Xynos?

I did not buy note 9 for using it with custom rom. Custom rom has its own set of problems. The biggest jolt would be a reduced camera app. My old phone would be better than a custom rom

He prob on 960F as 960U does not have root. Would be nice to specify what devices so people are not jumping in here thinking this is snapdragon.

After using Note 9 for a brief period of time , i understood samsung devices are not for me. My last Samsung device was note 4 . The dual version performed horribly with 16gb memory. I can live with the inferior hardware of OP5T for now and will probably upgrade it with OP7. Oneplus opmtization is the best and its addictive. Also on note 9 i missed "Island " Android for work support. Even with all the modification i have on my OP5T its super fast.
Which is the most root friendly phone where I can set up Magisk ??
I don't know how recent you want, but I have the Axon 7. It's really easily rooted.

I want 2016+ phones, cheap and which i can root easily, I'm tired to find any.
Generally speaking I'd suggest to check models that are in BOTH Lineage and TWRP official support lists:
https://download.lineageos.org/ (click on menu)
https://twrp.me/Devices/
That way besides stock ROM (probably not difficult to root because above availability) you will always have the alternative ROM + Recovery.

Also, check which devices are the most popular on XDA forum; there's lots of old but great flagship devices like the OP3 that are still getting tons of attention and are available on the cheap.
The problem is that most of your cheaper phones are either built intentionally to be tough to root, or ppl who buy them just don't care enough to do the extra. I know there was a midrange Moto a few years back and I'm sure it is still getting indie development, but the name escapes me... Try googling "most easily rooted phones" and see what you get. Might just need to get secondhand/older/foreign if cost is an issue.
Edit: just noticed your objection to older phones. You do realize that if you are going to root your phone anyway, you are 20x better off with a flagship 2014 model that has a Qualcomm 8xx PROCESSOR (or even most 7 and 6 series) than an Intel or almost any Mediatek processor? You don't need to worry about the age of it if it's in good condition and there's active development. THAT'S how you'll save money IMO.

Cheap? I'd say Xiaomi A2 or the Poco F1. Xiaomi bootloader is locked from the factory, but they have an official tool called Mi Unlocker to easily unlock it.
In case of Mi A2, released in 2016, since it's an AndroidOne device, you can simply unlock it using fastboot. It also has LineageOS and TWRP official support. From factory it came with Oreo, then updated to Pie. And they will release Android 10 for it at the end of this month (https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-X...edge-towards-Android-10-update.447310.0.html)
I'm running Mi A2 with Havoc OS v2.8 based on Android Pie, rooted with Magisk 20.2, and EdXposed 0.4.5. The device pass SafetyNet and can install Netflix from the Play Store.
They released Mi A3 with AMOLED display. But it's 720p with a notch, a downgrade from the notchless 1080p LCD display of Mi A2. But it has 3 cameras instead of two, and 4000mah battery instead of 3000mah in Mi A2, and will receive official Android 11.
Which phones are currently easiest to unlock, root and install ROMs?
TL;DR: I wanted to install an Android 9 Rom on my phone alongside the stock Android 10 Rom in order to use GLTools.
So, the question is basically on the title. But the reason that I want to install two Roms on my phone is GLTools. Since GLTools' developer didn't release an Android 10 compatible version of his app while it was under development, Thus can't use it, since my phone is on the latest firmware. Now, I mainly wanted to play Fortnite on my phone (Please don't judge me?). I'm open to other solutions tho, like any GLTools alternative compatible with Android 10. (Ps. Phone is rooted with Magisk)
AFAIK, Dual boot custom ROMs were possible on some devices but that was before introduction of SAR A/B Devices. While theoretically, newer devices have separate A/B partitions and hence could have separate ROMs I believe it is an issue of shared libraries/partitions being used by the device which might mess up things.
But then I am neither a developer nor a gamer so the entire theory could be wrong !

In stock 10 rom?
Title. I flashed another rom on another phone a while ago and unlocking it was relatively easy, but I read here that you need to *request* unlocking for the mi max 2 via your Mi Account. Is all that necessary to install havoc? another question I have is how similar is it to miui? Can you use the Themes app? or is it just gone then? I just don't know if I should go through aaaaaaaall the process just to jump to Android 9. I just wanna play a game that requires Android 9+, and the device currently shows as incompatible cause miui 11 is 7.1.1 based.

Yes you need to request unlock permission from Xiaomi to unlock bootloader and you would have to use your Mi Account. Havoc os is Aosp based rom so there isn't Themes app but you can use substratum for theming. And there are 2 other files you need to flash along with rom - quick charge fix and in call volume fix. If you are doing it just for a game, i don't recommend. Also the unlocking permission will take a couple of days. Plus the audio in pie roms is crackling in some roms so you will have to use Viper or Dolby and tune the settings for better audio.
