Root/SM-N770F/TGY - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite Guides, News, & Discus

This is the root method I used on my Note 10 Lite (TGY HONGKONG) Version.
I should add that the build number that I used the root method on is N770FZHS2ATC2. This method is very easy if you take your time. THIS WILL ALSO WIPE YOUR DEVICE. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DEVICE OR SD CARD DAMAGE.
BEFORE PROCEEDING, UNLOCK BOOTLOADER.
YOU CAN FIND THE FIRMWARE YOU NEED ON SAMMOBILE OR FRIJA. SAMMOBILE WILL SEVERAL VERSIONS FOR YOUR DEVICE, FRIJA WILL ONLY HAVE THE LATEST VERSION.
1. Download the firmware for your device.
2.Load Zarchiver from playstore.
3.Open Zarchiver and locate the firmware you downloaded.
4.Click on the firmware, a menu will appear at the bottom. You will then have option to extract.
5. Extract the firmware and you will have files..AP..BL..CP..CSC..and HOME_CSC. The only file we need is AP
6.Click on AP file and rename AP_N770xxxx.md5 to AP_N770xxxxx.tar so your just highlighting the file and removing md5 so it only says .tar at the end.
7.Once you have renamed AP file click and again you will be given the option to extract. Once extracted, locate boot.img.lz4
8.Then extract boot.img.lz4 leaving you with boot.img
9.You should have Magisk manager installed on device. Use Magisk to patch the boot.img. once patched locate magisk_patched.img and rename to boot.img
10.Return to Zarchiver locate the patched boot.img and compress to boot.tar.
11. Move compressed boot.tar to computer and rename to boot.img.tar
12.Put device in download mode, open odin 3.14.4 and put the boot.img.tar in AP and click start. Once odin says pass, your device will boot to stock recovery and you will have to do a factory reset so save anything you need before doing this.
13.once device boots reinstall Magisk manager and follow prompts. You should now have a rooted device.

OP update, thank you for point this out. Yes bootloader needs to be unlocked. Sammobile has the FIRMWARE and correct Odin but is very slow to download unless you have a paid account. Frija is very fast but only provides LATEST firmware. I live in United States using At&t and had no issues. This process should work on devices from different regions I know it also works on United Arab Emirates csc, as a developer I know has that VERSION.

First off, thank you for the Guide!
When using on AT&T, does WiFi Calling, HD Voice, Visual Voicemail work? I haven't purchased this phone yet but very interested in it. I have an Unlocked Note 10+ but had to flash the AT&T Carrier CSC so I can get those functions to work. I have crappy AT&T service where I live and Wifi Calling & HD Voice are essential for me.

Just HD voice. All the others would require csc change. I haven't tried anything yet. I can honestly say for the price it was worth it for me. Its not my daily driver. I have xposed working. There are other things being worked on...but will leave it at that..lol. I have had no connectivity issues when I put my sim in and my At&t service sucks where I live also.

You really have me thinking now. Very tempting! I see that BandH has the So. American version. Wonder if that would work as well as your model.

I have some some csc zips that I want to try but since we do not have Twrp just yet..its a no go. I know I could flash with Odin but haven't tried yet
Sent from my SM-N770F using Tapatalk

Just to add, there has been like no development for this device. There are things being worked on, but nothing solid to my knowledge. I got the device because of the price and the ability to unlock bootloader. Plus Galaxy Notes are my hobby. Have every series since Note 1. So my reason for getting it is not typical of the average buyer. But since I have it, the dual sim is great. One device and 2 lines.

Excellent choices! I've had every note except N5. That missing expandable storage turned me away. With the rumors, the N20 (+ or ultra?) is not sounding terrific. I'll wait & see... That Fold 2 with S-Pen would be great though!
Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

Yes I'm waiting to see what the Note 20 will bring. It's probably going to cost a ton..lol. I will wait a month or 2 after its released.
Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

A friend of mine has a different model of the 10 lite. He has been helping me with things. Like I said what you get for the price, in my opinion is well worth it. Most of the options that reviews mention that are missing, the average user doesnt use them anyway. No wireless charging etc. The camera is decent enough but if I want to take good pics I use my 10+ or or my Note 9.
Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

Do you notice random restart after root? Once or twice a day?

The only time that happened is when I had Xposed installed. It only happened once. I recently flashed Spain firmware on my Hong Kong version which is now Android 10/2.1 its rooted and I have not had any random reboots.

Here; I have mine for 3 solid hours .
This is the SM- N920I release. Therefore purchased new. Sealed .
At first start there in the list: French - France for the language.
So I set all without worries.
No worries grip level of the network. Whether in town or in the countryside.
On my trip I had the 4g . The 3g . And at home in the countryside I'm Edge ; As with other smartphone I've owned .
So I have a Note 5 Version completely in French and I do not see any fault in relation to a unit purchased in Europe such as notes 4. Unless the Note 5 is frankly a very beautiful and strong improvement .
It is downright gorgeous. The back is very pretty ; more plastic . The screen is sublime.
It is super fast ; fluid; pleasant .
I'm tired; going to bed . More information later.
Looks like another . That's all for the time being
Hey guys , can you tell me if this firmware for the model SM - N910i supports Italian language ( PDA : N920IDVU1AOH2; CSC : N920INZC1AOH2 ) . In addition, the model SM - N920I is factory unlocked and you can flash with odin any firmware of this model ?! Thank you!

OK thanks. This model has no problems with locked bootloaders , right ?. One last thing , I assume you have the firmware NZC , there is also the Italian language system ?.
The locked bootloader is down to your carrier but that "shouldn't" prevent the same model firmware flashing.
Yes I have NZC and as you might notice from one of my older posts it contains almost every language by default

Does the NZC firmware have any bloat or carrier branding (i.e. carrier boot animations)? Because I have the TNZ firmware which has the Spark splashscreen and a Spark app that's just bloat since I use the phone on Vodafone. One other thing, is the stock internet browser Samsung's browser, because for me it's Y! TWorld, which is the same thing functionally, it just bugs me that it's been renamed and has a different icon.

No carrier bloat or branding other than the uninstallable 2Degrees app
Yeah there is a reason I never get a spark phone ever since my first one, all of the extra rebranding and removal of certain apps to put their own ones in...
In fact after one of my friends who had the same phone as me but was lagging constantly saw that I had no spark branding and asked if that was the problem with his phone (we both had the Exynos Note 4)

So flashing this firmware should remove the carrier branding? Awesome! Just one last question, could you post a screen capture of the pre-installed Internet browser? Because mine is different to what it should be and I'm wondering if that's down to the firmware.
(Sorry I can't post a screen capture of it, I'm new to the forums so it won't let me.)

Flashing generic UK firmware from O2 - complete n00b request

Hi,
I'm in the UK; have an Xperia 1 II from O2. Bought outright and using my EE sim in the phone. I am investigating the possibility of flashing generic UK firmware (i.e. to match the firmware on the phones sold direct from Sony) so that EE wifi calling hopefully starts to work. Phone is unlocked.
I've never flashed a phone before and am trying to figure out how it works.
My understanding is:
1. can obtain firmware via Xperifirm
2. can flash that firmware using Flashtool
3. don't need to unlock bootloader to flash new firmware.
My questions are:
4. is it as simple as the above? Download my selected firmware and then flash using Flashtool?
5. is Flashtool a third party software? I see the Sony dev site also offers a flash tool called Emma. I have also seen references to a separate Newflasher and the need for an fsc script
6. how do I confirm which firmware is which? I presume I would be looking to use the 'Customized UK' firmware listed in Xperifirm, CDA 1321-7192 / 58.0.A.3.31 / R8A.
Thanks, appreciate any info.
Cheers,
Michael
I posted how I did it here and in this simpler guide here.
Your understandings are correct. FlashTool includes XperiFirm.
4. Yes, though you will have to do a couple of additional steps because the FlashTool devices database has not been updated with the .fsc for the phone yet.
5. Yes, FlashTool is 3rd party software and allows you to change Customization. Emma is only for unlocked bootloaders from what I remember. You will need to also download the .fsc and .properties files I provided and rename the .fsc file.
6. Yes, 'Customized UK' from XperiFirm is what you want.
On Windows you will need to install the Flashmode and Fastboot drivers in the Flashtool\drivers directory to communicate with your phone. Follow the instructions here as you need to start Windows with driver signature enforcement disabled to do this.
Once you have that all set up, downloaded the firmware and FlashTool has processed the downloaded firmware, you will be ready to flash. Click Flash and choose Flash Mode, then set it up as in my first link - this will wipe all data on the phone.
When flashing, an error of "those files are not in the fsc script: persist, reset-non-secure-adb" is entirely normal. When flashing has finished successfully it will say "synced".
Thanks heaps - I'll have a go.
O2 advised me the phone is unbranded and unlocked as if bought direct from Sony is this incorrect ??

I have bought mine on o2 also and will be using on three uk .. apart from wifi ifoes everything else function OK without o2 sim ?
To be honest I'm torn between cancelling o2 as they told me the phone was unlocked and unbranded and getting a s20 plus
Thanks in advance Mike
Hi,
It has an O2 app preinstalled. No branding or startup stuff. Everything is fine except no WiFi calling visible for EE, which I expected. I did talk to O2 a bit beforehand and they said the firmware would be specific but nothing else. It is unlocked, my EE SIM is working fine aside from WiFi calling as above.

I did talk to O2 a bit beforehand and they said the firmware would be specific but nothing else. It is unlocked, my EE SIM is working fine aside from WiFi calling as above.

I doubt you will get VoLTE/4G calling working on EE or 3 with the O2 firmware either. (At least it didn't work for me with a Vodafone SIM). To me VoLTE is much more important than WiFi calling as without VoLTE you cannot make a phone call on 4G and instead have to also have a connection to a 3G or 2G network to make a call.
Flashing the Customized UK firmware should fix this.

Yes exactly. WiFi calling not working on EE out of the box. Just need to take the time and get brave enough to do it!
Did you flash your Xperia 1ii? I have the same, O2 phone with EE sim , no wifi calling but everything else OK. I though it was working before the last Sony update but maybe it wasn't. I notice the mobile signal shows LTE but when I put an O2 sim in it says 4G. I didn't realise it was a firmware issue so looking at doing this. I need wifi calling at the back of my house as the mobile signal is very weak.

Hi, yes I did using this wonderful thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-1-II/how-to/successfully-flashed-customization-t4119707
Read it first as there can be some scary moments depending on which usb-c cable you use to connect the phone to the pc (don't use the Sony one) but it all works if you follow the instructions and I now have WiFi calling over EE.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot over the weekend.
As an aside, if you got it from O2, did you get your 'free' headphones?

I managed to flash to stock UK and now have Wi-Fi calling on EE - but - I have lost the ability to edit the APN. When I hotspot some apps get confused with IPv6 so I delete that from the EE APN but cant do it now I have flashed. Also lost LTE option. Just generic 5G/4G/3G/2G. Can you edit your APN and do you have LTE?
As for the headphones, good for you - still waiting for mine

After flashing from O2 firmware to stock UK firmware I only have the one option of 5G/4G/3G/2G
Noob question but does flashing the firmware impact using NFC payments and Google pay?
Also does anyone know if/have experience of, the Hong Kong version (dual SIM), being able to use VOLTE/WiFi calling here in the UK? I need a dual SIM phone ideally but I read somewhere that flashing the dual SIM with a UK firmware will disable the second sim slot (which makes sense to me).
Thank you!
LTE is 4G isn't it. Does O2 just put LTE in their firmware rather than 4G?

How to update AT&T SM-N950U ROM?

Hello, I have an unrooted and unlocked AT&T SM-N950U that hasn't received updates since September 1st 2018
When I tried in the past to check for updates it always told me the phone already has the latest update but it's been like that for 2 years already and I know there have been new updates...
It is still on android version 8.0.0 with Build number: R16NW.N950USQS5CRI4
I wanted to update to the latest recommended ROM because I am worried about the state of security on the phone. Lately I noticed app started to install themselves from nowhere and I am worried the phone might already be infested with viruses undetected by security softwares.
How should I upgrade the ROM? Any help, hint or recommendation would be very appreciated!
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Downloaded the firmware from Frija or Sammobile..download correct version of odin..extract the firmware you downloaded leaving you with files AP..BL..CP..CSC..HOME_CSC
OPEN ODIN..boot device to download mode..plug in to computer. Odin will recognize device. Load BL file in BL spot..AP file in AP slot and so on. If you want complete wipe load csc..if not use Home_csc..click start wait till Odin says pass..DONE!

Thank you! I looked at Sammobile in the past but wasn't sure if the ROMs there were safe because it's not the official Samsung website but it does look pretty legit
also I wasn't sure which ROM I should download from there since there are so many options

Do I need the reqular USA one? What about the Verizon/T-mobile/Spint/CDMA/Comcast versions? There is no specific specialized version for AT&T?
Thanks again!

Ok, so I went ahead and tried to flash it using Odin, but I keep getting an error, after it hangs for a while during connection process.
<ID:0/008> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/008> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Maybe the cable is faulty? Why doesn't it want to connect?

I came across this Reddit post:

Go back to the log tab and click "start" in the bottom right corner. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE UNTIL ODIN SAYS "PASS."
For Oreo on USA models, only Xfinity, US Cellular and T-Mobile firmware can be downloaded via Samfirm. Sprint's will be coming soon, but the only way to get Verizon and AT&T firmware is by updating your phone to Oreo via Smart Switch. If someone can update their VZW/ATT phone via Smart Switch and send me the files I can upload and add them here.

According to step #8 in his instructions
Apparently The only way to update an AT&T firmware is by updating the phone to Oreo via something called "Smart Switch". This is what google brought up
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/smart-switch
Currently installing and trying it.
Edit2:
Just tried "Smart Switch" and I found out it's not that "smart" after all... It also told me I'm on the latest version..

At&t does not post U firmware. U1 is unlocked firmware. Just download any version of U firmware. USC..CCT.. all are the same. You should be flashing firmware that is S7 or U7. This will update to Pie and there is no flashing backward. Try a different USB port. Whatever version you select make sure to use correct Odin. Use the files that I told you previously...BL..AP..CP..CSC you will get there. Its very easy.

Odin should work. Only try this to get back on track if Odin doesn't work.. this is not the latest firmware but maybe flash this then try to see if Ota will kick in... Just remember once you update your bootloader, you can't downgrade firmware.. so if your bootloader is S5 or U5 you can't go back to S4 or U4. You can only go up or flash firmware that has same bootloader. Download it. Move to SD card. Boot to stock recovery..look for update.zip..Highlight it..flash. Do not extract. This is a zip that you flash in stock recovery. Go to Firmware Science and read the directions before flashing.

Ok so I did manage to flash using the N950USQS5CRI4 from firmware.science but it ended up deleting all my personal files and doing a clean install.. Very unfortunate but I'll live with it.
Following the firmware.science instructions I now realize why my previous attempts with Odin didn't work... I had to put the device into download mode... I feel so stupid for not realizing this earlier I could have saved all my data.
That is why I suggested you read the instructions. Sorry I wasn't a little more clear. And yes whenever you use Odin you have to put device in download mode, I just assumed you knew that.

It's ok it was a risk I was willing to take I knew something could go wrong but most of the really important stuff to me is already backed up automatically I lost a few notes and photos and images, videos I collected but really not that big of a deal. My really important stuff are on my PC
I did manage to flash the latest firmware with Odin.
Crossing fingers that hopefully it will take care of those pesky game apps that kept installing themselves because that was one of the main reason I wanted to update in the first place lol
If you have At&t sim, you will get the games. Most you can Uninstall. If you have Package Disabler use that to disable the apps you don't want. Be careful not to disable system apps

No at&t sim for me.
You know now that you mention at&t I am actually confused about that... I thought flashing a new firmware would remove all the at&t bloatware I don't need. Where are they coming from? Are they included inside the USC firmware? How can I get a cleaner firmware for the note 8?

Your topic header says How to update At&t firmware, but you say you don't have At&t sim. I'm a bit confused. I will sum all this up..
All the carrier locked firmware is the same..meaning U firmware. You can flash any of them. The firmware will provision to the sim you have. The problem with that is I am now confused as to what carrier you have since you said you don't have an At&t sim. In order to get ota, you will need to be on the latest firmware of the carrier you have. If At&t is on a certain build and you flash firmware that At&t is not currently on you will not get ota.
The U1 firmware is unbranded. Flashing this you will not get all the bloat that comes with U firmware. This is why its important to read up on the basics of using Odin, knowing your firmware version..bootloader..and so on. Give as much info as you can about the device when asking for help, it will save a ton of time. And to add there are a ton of people willing to help but having the basic info about what device you have is key so all trying to help can direct you accordingly. Don't take this as me being a jerk..lol I'm just trying to save you some time[emoji106]

Nah I totally understand where you are coming from. I don't think you are a jerk at all.
It's an at&t device I bought 2 years ago in the US but I am outside of the US and have a completely different sim from a local company. Therefore I don't use any of at&t's services
Initially I thought I could only update to a firmware that was specifically made for an at&t device or if I want a clean install I could install some custom firmware but it might be buggy and not support all the note features. But now thanks to you I am starting to understand it all better now.
Have to be rooted to install custom Rom. And since your bootloader is past revision 3 the older root method does not work. But Extreme Syndicate root method does. But since you are not in United States not sure what carrier you are using. And if your not familiar with the root method it could be a little difficult...But not if you read up. The developer Elliwigy is a beast.

It's ok I don't need root on this phone. I have really basic usage with it. I can also live with the at&t bloatware it never really bothered me in the past but since I already made a clean install I thought maybe there's an easy and quick way to get rid of it.

I read this post by user Kangi26
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-note-8/how-to/att-oreo-ota-updates-t3756025
There he made the following assertion:
Understanding the Firmware labels
I got a better, more updated explanation to how these are broken down
N=Note
950U or F etc, the model of device
SQ, FX etc = CPU and model specific
U,S,E = Update, Security, Engineering, respectively
1,2,3,4,5 etc = bootloader rev(this is important!)
A,B,C,D = Nougat rev 1, Nougat rev 2, Oreo rev 1, Pie rev 1
If you ever see a build that contains a "Z" such as this: U5ZSA1, that means the build is part of Samsung's Official Beta program. The "Z" in this context replaces the Android Version letter thus obscuring what OS it actually is.
P,Q,R,S = Year (R is 2018, S is 2019)
A,B,C etc = month (January A - December L)
1 - 9 and then A - Z =build compilation. This basically means how many builds there are in a month. They start at 1 and go to Z (Ex. If a build is U5CRK4 then that is the fourth build of the month of November)
So N950USQS5CRK1 would be
N950-U-SQ-S-5-C-R-K-1
N950U (Note 8 Carrier version), SQ (Snapdragon), S (Security), 5 (Bootloader version), C (Build Oreo), R (2018), K (November), 1 (1st build)
Click to collapse
So I deducted and figured if SQ after the first U meant Snapdragon, anything else at this position would probably mean Exynos.
So when I saw the following firmware with this label N950U1UES8DTG2 I thought it most be for Exynos:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/g...SM-N950U1/TMK/download/N950U1UES8DTG2/360205/
Again only be concerned with 950U or 950U1

I got the update yesterday on my S8+ but after the first boot I noticed the black background on the boot branding with the white text was flickering instead of solid and once booted the image quality is way worse, like there's no contrast and a yellow filter over the whole screen.
Rebooting doesn't help and no visual related settings were changed under display nor accessibility, anyone else having this problem?
I've been using Android 12L on my Tab S8 for a couple of days, and so far I am very impressed! The taskbar is the game changer. Opening 2-3 apps on the screen was already possible with the edge bar and split screen on 12, but the process is more simplified and intuitive on 12L. The only issue is that you can't use the taskbar on Nova launcher. Samsung launcher isn't too bad but I much prefer Nova... enjoy!

Oh, wow! No wonder I haven't seen the taskbar since I'm using Nova. That's crazy.

Yea, reading around it sounds like the taskbar doesn't work with any non-stock launcher! So disappointing!

I won't hold my breath, but here's hoping either Samsung will provide a way to use it without their launcher, or someone provides a root way to enable the stock AOSP 12.1/12L taskbar, at least.

If you download the XXV firmware for your exact model number through SamFirm or similar software, then yes.

If you can unlock the bootloader you can flash any firmware you want. Just make sure it's the one for your model.
(your model number may be different)

Flashing stock roms shouldn't need bootloader unlocks. Since EUX is stock rom so it should be flashable anyway without touching bootloader. Because it is stock rom.
Also I'm quite sure I have seen others on here flash other region roms on their devices without needing to unlock bootloader.
Never touch bootloader while warranty is active, doing so voids it.

Okay, I assumed wrong that changing CSC (flashing EUX firmware over top of XXV) would require a bootloader unlock. My mistake! Thank you.
I'll always unlock my bootloader immediately, though. No problems for me in the past 12 years, but to be fair, it was only the past 7 years that I've unlocked bootloaders. Before that, and when I was still on Verizon, I was always using exploits to be able to root my Verizon devices. My main devices for the past 6 have been Pixels except for one brief revisit with a Samsung phone a couple of years ago.

Well CSC is only a region code sort off. But every rom for each CSC is stock rom so the device won't become bricked or having issues flashing any CSC region roms. But if you flash a custom rom that is not stock then bootloader unlock is required. Because those do not contain correct certificate that the stock roms do and which therefore becomes rejected or failed when trying to flash them without unlocking the bootloader. While stock ones will pass through without any issues.
I used to flash custom roms years back when there was a workaround where only root was needed to flash. Then bootloader could stay as locked and such, but it was due to a glitch/exploit being used under root method.
