Hello
I Bought this adapter from aliexpress
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000504201626.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dlK6U7y
It all works fine the Ethernet port is recognized and all the USB ports work and it allows charging through the adapter.
HDMI also works when plugged in the side USB-C but the resolution is the same as the phones.
So when I connect to a regular 16:9 TV/Monitor it has big black bars
As far as I can see the dock allows for the resolution change
Is there a way to change the output resolution or do I need the official dock to do that?

Are there MHL to VGA adapters available that are know to work with the 4x?
Or is MHL standardized enough that i can pick any MHL to VGA without any worrying about working?
I know HDMI is usually better but my HMD (tac eye) takes only VGA or SVideo (though SVideo quality really suxx, its only on for NV not for data).
Also I see some MHL to VGA adapters have a secondary USB port, can this be used only as client or could I somehow connect a pointing device to my phone?
If I were you i would take MHL to HDMI cable and then HDMI to VGA. Reason is simple. Sometime you may want to connect your phone to new TV so you will need HDMI as it is standard port.
Secondary USB port is microUSB and it is used to charge phone while conected to TV (at least thats how it works with MHL to HDMI cable).

Well, for me this would than look like: MHL-HDMI adapter connected to a HDMI-VGA adapter connected to VGA-"Proprietary HMD Port" thats in used space and weight more for the adapters than for the phone and HMD. As i intent to wear this on my body thats rather not cool. Also the HDMI-VGA adapter will want some juice what will be an additional drain on my batteries.
The "VGA-"Proprietary HMD Port" is passive, so if I like the setup I will probably cut the MHL-VGA adapter open and attache the signal lanes directly to a fitting plug for my HMD.
Also I don't own a TV just a 30" WQXGA Dell Monitor with a Duallink DVI port its one of the old models that had only Duallink DVI, no scaling no DVI no VGA and no other ports.
An other issue would be how to control the phone when it in my pocket, how can I attache some pointing device and would this even work with android OS?
Or would I have to wait for an unlocked bootloader and this cool ubuntu on phone projects that provide a full ubuntu desktop?
PS: is the micro usb port on the adapter only used for charging or is there still a USB signal on it?

If i got you right, you want to control phone, connected to PC monitor, over HDM goggles?
You can try something like this https://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
It is a software that enables remote control of your phone over WiFi, so if your goggles work on PC it should work here to. It does the same job as the cable connection (MHL to VGA)
As for the MHL to VGA adapter you have 4 connectors:
1) male microUSB (one you connect to your phone)
2) female microUSB (charger or power supply, so it doesn't use phone battery)
3) female VGA (for monitor)
4) 3,5 audio jack for sound

Not exactly I don't want to use a PC at all. I want to connect the HMD (Vuzix-Tac-Eye-LT-Monocular) directly to the phone and use some pointing device or mini keyboard to control the phone.
I have the adapter and a problem,
the phone is only giving out its native screen resolution, my HMD cant handle.
How can I change the resolution so SVGA ?
When connecting in desktop mode to my TV LG full HD, I see icon too big but I'm not able to upload here the screenshot. I cannot find any possibility to change it into the settings.
Can anybody experienced same issue?
Thanks
Alessandro
I ran into that problem with a cheaper generic monitor and a cheap adapter. At first, I had the cheap XtremePro (generic from Amazon) and sometimes my monitior showed 480p, sometimes it was 1080p. It was weird, I had to plug it in the Samsung TV (1080p) and then go back to my monitor, it would correctly show as 1080p. When I changed the generic monitor to a Samsung, now it shows 1080p. But the adapter didn't allow me to plug it in and recharge my phone so I went out and bought a new adapter that does a great job.. recharges phone AND shows 1080p.

LG monitor, depends on the age, sometimes it doesn't read the phone very well or it could be the adapter itself. Upgrade the adapter to the one I recommended before changing the monitor.
Bought one and used it on Samsung curved monitor 28" everything is perfect 1080p signal.. Maybe as said it's the Adapter. Mine come with USB hdmi and USB c ports. Or maybe some configuration on TV ? Did u try on a monitor?
Mine I was able to charge and use the hdmi in the same time...
Today I made additional test. The result is that with 2 adapters, 2 TVs (Samsung and!LG) and 2 hdmi cables the resolution is always poor if I connect thru hdmi (icons are very big) with all combination adapter+cable+TV. But if I use a vga cable (one adapter has both ports), it works perfectly.
It seems a problem on p20 pro hdmi management.
Hi everyone !
I have been using Samsung Dex with a type-c to HDMI cable on my 4K TV and it worked flawless. It's great and smooth.
I wanted to do the same at the office with my computer monitor. Since it doesn't have any HDMI input I bought a VGA to HDMI adaptor.
When I connect my phone to the VGA to HDMI adaptor using a type-c to HDMI cable, nothing happens. It seems like the monitor doesnˋt recognize the S10.
Has anyone of you succeeded in getting Dex work on a VGA monitor ?
VGA cables can't output 1080 if I remember correctly
Hi,
Could you please le me know which HDMI hub or cable (usb-c to HDMI) you use to display the mobile screen on TV?
I bought an UGREEN, model CM314, with HDMI Port 4K x 2K/60Hz which unfortunately does not seem to work.
Please check photo attached with the image displayed on the TV after connecting the mobile using my Ugreen hub.
Any recommendation is very much appreciated.
Thank you!
Hi emiorosa,
i tried this adapter with my 8T with success.
Amazon.com
I connected the monitor to the dongle HDMI port first and then plugged it into my phone and it worked.
the VGA connection flashed my phone display on the screen but then disappeared so that didnt really work but HDMI worked great.
It seemed like it reduced the refresh rate to 60hz though.

Hi guys
I got a little big issue with dex and my TV, My TV is FHD , when I connect my S20 FE wirelessly to my TV and bring up dex, The output is FHD
But when I connect it uGreen Type-C to HDMI, Dex says that the monitor/tv resolution is not supported by dex, and the output is 1366x768.
I thought the cable has issue, and tested it on a samsung monitor, and works perfectly on FHD, so the cable is OK.
May anyone please help me with this issue ?!
check the settings on your TV, maybe there are different input settings for HDMI or one of your ports is different from the others. google your TV's model and the phrase HDMI resolution etc.

Hi , I did that all hdmi ports are FHD , and tested them with my laptop hdmi, all of them shows FHD. I think dex uses a special standard , that my tv cant support it.
Samsung DeX HDMI max resolution is only FullHD (1920x1080)
I’ve got Plugable UD-CAM dock and it works perfectly fine with my Dell Latitude 7480 laptop and USB, Ethernet and WQHD (2560 x 1440) Dell monitor. Pretty much the same is applicable to my Samsung Galaxy S9 with only 1 exception - HDMI resolutions above FullHD (i.e. 1920x1080) are grayed-out in...
