How to root Note 5, Sm-n920a? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I have a Note 5, SM-N920a, running on nougat with bootloader N920AUCS4EQJ1
From searching on this site, this seems like the information I need, but anything specific to rooting my device.
The only thing I found was this
forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-note5/current-root-n920a-6-0-1-5-1-1-1-31-2017-t3548674
But I'm not sure if my phone has this version bootloader. The thread is a bit confusing to me, since I'm new to this and it says that some of the links are outdated
Is this the only method to rooting this device? I can't find any other ones.

I see you have a bootloader 4. This link might work I have rooted my phone the model number is slightly different but I do have the same a bootloader 4. See this link
I have successfully rooted and installed rom then rooted the installed rom. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to do if you understand what your doing

Dear techwizards and wannabe,
I've been trying to root my phone for a while, I've done it before: both my S II and S III were international variants, and rooting those devices was very simple. But after getting an S IV from America and consensually downloading a samsung issued update -- I had yet to read up on the disadvantages of knox -- my rooting and android experience took a turn for the worse.
Long story short -- I know developers are a proud bunch who value their time -- I tried rooting my phone yesterday after almost smashing my phone on a coffee table. They say it's a well known side effect of Touchwiz, but I'll leave that to you.
I used a towelroot.com root -- a wonderful tool, if I may say so. After that, I visited the CM website and picked out the compatible CM11. I never got to flashing it though, as my problems arose while installing a recovery.
I had downloaded an app, a something recovery or another. They had an option to flash recoveries on there--it would download your recovery for you and do all the work, which seemed plausible as most video tutorials demonstrated. To my astonishment, doing so bricked my phone.
I tracked back, looked for the samsung stock rom, downloaded all 2.2 gb's of it and flashed it. It worked. My phone was functional but I suspect something within it stinks. My device, apparently for security reasons, wont let my wifi or 4g to establish a connection. It's making it impossible for me to fix this problem as I can't root my device or flash a custom rom.
About Device:
Pre problem I was running a:
SGH-I337UCUFNC1 baseband. Build Number ending with: NC1.
Android version: 4.2.2
Post problem:
Baseband: I337UCUFNC1
Build Number: JSS15J.I337UCUEMK2
Android version 4.3.
If I could find my original stock 4.2.2 NC1 version and get simple instructions on how to re-install it back to stock version, I'd be very grateful.
If you know how I could fix the internet issue on the MK2 one, and provide some simple instructions of how to root it, I'd be grateful too.
If you think neither would work, and have something else in mind, Im open to your suggestions.
Much Regards,
Y

Two things:
1. You're posting in the wrong forum, this is the forum for the S4 Active i537, a different phone than the regular S4 i337.
2. The i337 had a locked bootloader that cannot be unlocked. Therefore it is impossible to install a custom recovery other than SafeStrap and it is impossible to install ROMs that are not TouchWiz-based ROMs.
Good luck.

Nexus 6 - Running 5.1.1 able to be unlocked?

Hi All,
I have just within the last few days received a brand new Nexus 6, did all updates and it is running 5.1.1. I have found multiple guides online in regards to rooting 5.0, but none of them have any reference to 5.1.1 (I assume because it is still fairly new). I would just like to make sure that the guides for 5.0 are still appropriate for 5.1.1 before I go ahead with the root, and will not brick my phone. (Would post link for the guide I was going to follow, but I have less than 10 posts)
If anyone could verify this for me, that would be awesome! As well, if anyone has any newer guide or anything else that I should know as I am starting from scratch with a new device, that would be great as well!
Thanks!

its all the same, for any nexus. 1. unlock the bootloader via fastboot. 2. flash twrp recovery via fastboot. 3. flash the latest supersu in your new recovery. 4. reboot, with your bootloader unlocked and with root.
Yes, the method to unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, and root has not changed. I'd suggest this > http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/how-to-nexus-6-one-beginners-guide-t2948481
Thanks! Just wanted to make sure!

Lollipop 5.1.1 on T715?

OK I'm a complete newbie here. I bought the 8" S2 International unlocked version from Amazon and will take it to AT&T to activate it tomorrow. It's on 5.0.2 and is not seeing any OTA updates. Does anyone know if there's a way to get 5.1.1 OTA? If not, does anyone know if Samsung has commented as to whether they'll release 5.1.1, or even Marshmallow, for this device or will I have to go to a custom ROM?
Also, is there an absolute beginners guide to this site? I've been reading through the threads and keep seeing terms like odin, twrp, and many others that I don't know what they mean and I'd like to figure out.
Thanks.

i just received the same device yesterday and so far, it's working just fine on at&t: including data full phone features (i wasn't aware that this version of the Tab S2 had a full fledged phone). i inserted my nano sim from my dual-sim note5 and the S2 configured everything automatically. also, i didn't see an OTA when i checked yesterday and there's nothing at sammobile.com which is where one can generally find firmware (stock ROM) for Samsung devices. any custom ROM right now will likely be 5.0.2.

Odin = Windows based application used to flash firmware to Samsung devices.
TWRP = a custom recovery that - once your phone is rooted (similar to admin privileges on windows pc) - allows one to flash a custom ROM or other components/features not on a stock device. you can also create backups/nandroids of your device so you can restore your device if something goes wrong (similar to resorting a windows system image to a new hard drive). always, always backup when trying things out. tutorials are here, but sometimes not easily located via search. :good:

Alcatel Pop 4 ROOTABLE?

Hello guys,
as the title says I would like to know if my Alcatel Pop 4 (5.0) is rootable or not. Unfortunately, there are a lot of system Google Apps I can only deactivate, but not fully uninstall as I don't have root access/root permissions.
Now I've been looking for threads the past few days, and I've read that 2 or 3 people were able to root it with KingoRoot. However, I'm very unsure as they reported their phone automatically rebooted after a few minutes and the root access was gone (they seemed to have an issue with the bootloader, but I don't know if they had found the OEM-Unlock and enabled it or not). Furthermore, that rooting tool doesn't seem to have good reviews, at all.
Gladly, I already enabled the OEM-unlock, the bootloader to be exact. I think it's easier to root with an unlocked bootloader.
I also asked OneClickRoot if my device was rootable, and they said no, but I just can't believe it.
IMPORTANT INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE PHONE:
Manufacturer: Alcatel
Model number: 5051D
OS-version: 6.0.1 Marshmallow
Build number: 01002
Kernel: 3.10.49-g832a88f [email protected] #1
Bootloader unlocked: YES
I'm looking forward to responses, thank you in advance!
I'm damn confused about how 5051D is named
- Alcatel One Touch Pop 4
- Alcatel One Touch Pop 4S?
- Alcatel One Touch Pixi 3?
I'm aware you got bored waiting for the update. Mine has Android 5.1.1, not Android 6.0.
This for fastboot. It seems the way is to unlock the bootloader and put a "recovery" ROM.
https://hardreset24.com/instruction/how-to-put-alcatel-pop-4-in-fastboot-mode
Here's a 6.0 firmware for it:
https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=758814
Here's another using Kingoroot. I don't trust it as it adds adware, the tutorial seems somewhat not so trusty too...

Here's another forum thread, but I'm not sure what one is 5051D:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/root-alcatel-one-touch-pixi-34-official-t3193624
I found another procedure about back up the ROM. It seems you may need to save IMEI and other stuff or those will be lost:
https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-526.html
I found other forum threads:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/how-to-alcatel-pop-4-fastboot-t3586623
It's a mess and it seems I need a SD card for the procedures, I'll wait to be able to buy one.
I use Linux, so I would prefer to use methods able to be done on it.
Thanks in advance!

AT&T Unlocked SIMS Samsung Galaxy Note 3 / SM-N900A Root?

I have Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900A version 5.0 and I’ve been trying to root it for awhile now. No luck at all and I’m fairly new to all of this stuff. From what I’ve gathered, it isn’t possible to root it since the boot loader is locked. However, if we can downgrade it, it would be. This is where I would need help step-by-step. I’d prefer that someone could live chat with me or call just to make sure I get every step right and if I have questions, I could get them right away to ensure I get everything done right. Thanks!
This thread may help: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/guide-easy-root-method-att-note-3-stock-t3797008
Dr. FONE doesn’t work. I think it has to do with my bootloader and I need to downgrade mine to 4.4.2 KitKat version.
The first line of the thread says:
"You can now root your AT&T Note 3 running stock Lollipop (OC1) in less than ten minutes (it rooted mine in six)
With just a few clicks this method will root and also install the real SuperSu on your Note 3."
OC1 ROM is Lollipop which is 5.0.
