Good evening everyone, I have a Nexus 7 8gb, but the thing is, I cannot turn it on now.
It happened as follows:
I was using it every now and then, mostly to read and play.
I was using the charger to charge my cellphone too (XTC Explorer) as it was a lot faster, being 2amp/h.
I updated the cell to 4.1 and at the same week noted the battery wasn't running that long, but blamed it to the rom.
The cellphone also took a lot longer to charge with the nexus charger, yet again I blamed the rom.
I noticed the Nex was at 8% while reading so decided to charge it, but I guess I forgotten.
The next time I wanted to use it it wouldn't turn on. I figure it had no battery.
I plugged the nexus charger to the nexus a whole night and in the morning it still wouldn't turn on.
I figured something must be wrong with the charger, so I tried with the cellphone and nook color charger, but both are .5 amps/hour.
It wouldn't charge, neither connected to the pc (also .5a/h via usb) so I tried a psp go charger, as it is rated at 1.5 amp/hour, much closer.
I connected it at night and saw the charging icon (white on black battery with the ray) and left it overnight.
The next morning it wouldn't turn on either.
I've bought it almost two months ago and I really enjoy it =) but now I'm desperate.
I cannot call google play for the warrant because I'm in Argentina, and I don't believe they will ship me a replacement, nor anything. This one my brother bought from them, but he went back to US a few days ago, and I didn't think of giving it to him to RMA.
I tried keeping the on button, for 5 secs, 30 sec, 90 secs, 120 secs, and no dice. Also tried holding the Up Volume key to restart it, but no chance.
Please help!
Had a similar issue to this over the weekend after not charging for 2 days and the battery going dead. I let it sit on the original charger overnight and for some reason it did not charge. It kept booting and shutting down once it booted due to a low battery warning. It eventually got to the point where the screen would go to fuzzy lines and light but no boot.
To finally get it working I did a combination of a few things but don't actually know what got it going.
Put it on a different (kindle) charger and let it sit for an hour or 2, did several hard resets holding both just the power and also the up/down volume and power all at the same time for up to 60 plus seconds. I switched back to the stock charger and did an additional hard boot by holding just the power for 30+ seconds and it started booting and charging.
I did however put it on the charge again last night and noticed this morning it was still at half battery and didn't get a charge. I ended up putting it on a mifi charger this morning and it's charging again so don't know what is up with the stock charger. Also, have all the latest updates to 4.2 as far as I know as there have been charging issues reported with earlier versions...

Hi,
I seem to have a peculiar problem with my brother's Nook HD+. When I plug it into the wall charger, the device shows a green light, which turns orange and the Nook powers on to show the Nook logo, but all of a sudden it switches off and the light disappears too.
I have tried holding down the power button while the device is plugged in, holding the n and power button down, using another charger, but nothing seems to work.
How can I troubleshoot this?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Let it in charge for 1 hour. (orange light) then remove it. Wait like 10 minutes and try to turn it on. Press the power button for 10 seconds. Repeatedly
I'd suggest leave it plugged in and charged with the BN wall-charger for 4-6 hours.

The device is not charging, the orange light does not glow.
Here is what happens after plugging it into the charger - the light turns green for 2 seconds, then orange, the screen comes alive with the nook logo and then all of a sudden, the screen wipes out blank and the charging light also switches off.
I've tried to put it on charge the whole night, tried to turn on the device, hard reset - nothing worked.
Had a very similar issue with mine when I first got it. Turned out it was my USB cable, I called Barnes and Noble and they sent me a free replacement.

I've tried using two different USB cables. The other one is from my other Nook HD+, both the cables seem to be working fine on the other Nook.
I have the exact same issue with my nook right now. It has cm 10.1 installed. But my screen isn't even flashing on at all. It just charges green for 2 seconds, charges orange for 2 seconds, then goes black. Won't turn on. I've had it charges for like 2 days with no luck. Have you figured out what was wrong with your nook yet? I'm going to get a new cord this weekend I guess. Can't think of anything else to try.

I had the same issue of not powering up. Plug it in get the green ,then yellow, then nothing. tried everything. Well almost everything. My last effort got it going. plugged it into a PC at that point it went green , then yellow, but this time stayed on yellow after about 40 minutes it booted.. I was elated.Hope this helps:laugh:

Thanks! Went to a B&N today and got a new cord. Plugged my nook into the charger at their display booth and it showed the charging screen and the LED stayed orange. I was stoked, so I assumed the cord was broken and I bought a new one. Tried it at home, and same #%^#ing problem: green for 2 seconds, orange for 2 seconds, and then off. No screen boot up or battery charging display. Last resort, plugged it into my computer, and it is keeping the orange LED on (yay), but still hasn't booted. It's been a couple of hours, so hopefully it boots here soon. I'm gonna keep it charging with my computer overnight and see if that fixes the problem. Then (if it ever boots), I'm going to put a new OS on the thing so hopefully I don't have to fuss around with the issue anymore. Thanks Ifearnogod. I also fearnogod.

Had the same problem with the Grandson's, pressed and held numerous button combinations no luck so sent it back to argos for a complete swap out replacement. Guess what after a couple of days the replacement unit did the same thing. Now i'm tearing my hair out after looking through various forums with no answer i tried the daughters Galaxy note charger and bingo it worked, it appears that the original charger supplied with the nook HD plus is not powerful enough to do the job from a completely discharged state. I've told him not to allow it to go completely discharged and we haven't had a problem since with the nook supplied charger.

I have the same problem, but with my Nook HD (not HD+). I used a different adapter at one point because I lost my Nook adapter. This may have caused the problem for me.
I've got a Nook HD that's acting like this, if I plug it into my computer or into the original charger it blinks green orange green orange, but never powers on. I've held the power button until it starts flashing orange only but it never charges it. When it's connected to the PC it keeps popping up a usb device failed to install prompt so I am thinking that this means the cable is working. I bought a replacement battery to put in it. Hoping that fixes the issue.
I did try it with another usb charger and it changed it's behavior slightly. It would flash green orange then show the N logo then shut off. If I left it on this usb charging adapter it still never would charge it up.
That is why I'm suspecting that it's a bad battery.
I'll get another charging cable next if that doesn't work.

I would go with testing a new cable / wall plug before anything else - but then for the price I would probably just jump on it then chuck it before spending money on a proprietary cable for an aging device.

Aging device? I would try to get a new cable/charger under warranty. Stores will do that if you can show the old one defective.

Its aging to me. Its been out for a long time now. I would go with something newer [then spend money on it] - but that's subjective - so I'm not getting into any debate here.
So they do that with just the cable - that's cool stuff.

yeah the battery didn't fix the issue. It's still not charging, if I connect the charging cable and adapter while it is turned off it turns it on, flashes green orange a couple of times then goes solid green. It boots up but I'm running on the remaining charge in the replacement battery I put in. visual inspection of the charging jack on the nook HD doesn't show any issues, visual inspection of the cable also doesn't show any issues. I'm going to take it to the closest barnes and noble and hope that they are willing to give me a new charging cable today. I guess we will see. Hopefully a new charging cord will fix the issue.

Make sure you still have stock on it if taking the device to the store. Alternate ROMs void the warranty. Maybe you can just take your charger and cable along with your serial number if the device is not stock. They can test to see if it charges their devices.

my nook HD have booted on. when i plug it in a DELL's laptop. the light was green -> orange -> and still orange, after few minutes it boot on and install 148update :laugh::good::laugh::good::laugh::good:
The battery not charging and tablet appearing dead other than the led is a common problem with tablets, not just the nook.
In the tablet they use a chip that has a controller integrated to charge lithium ion batteries. The controller has limits that have to fall into a preset range or the controller will not allow charging. If the battery voltage is low enough , the controller will experience a spike in current when the power is connected, that will trigger an excessive current limit in the controller which blocks it from charging the battery. The cycle repeats over and over and it will not charge because it is never on long enough to get the battery voltage higher.
The fix is easy on most tablets including the nook. You have to open up the case , will void warranty, unplug the internal battery and then connect that battery to an external charger for about 20 minutes to get the battery voltage up high enough to stop the over limit from occurring. I have about 6 tablets of various models that wouldn't turn on or charge and all were fixed and working great by doing the above. Actually a way to get tablets cheap if you see some with the same symptoms.
On the nook the wires you need to connect to charge on the battery are any red for + and any black for - . There are I think 3 red and 3 black bunched together on the connector, any one will work. After charging re-attach the battery and it should boot right up. Just be careful about letting the nook get below about 10% charge.
The charger you use can be just about any standard charger that can charge 7 volt lithium cells, the nook has them wired in series , 2 batteries x 3.7 ~ 7.4V.
A good cheap one that takes out having to worry about charger settings is :

Here's my story:
Rooted, running CM11 no problems. Read some comics, decided to download and try out Dragon Age from the play store. I had ~35% battery remaining (hard to tell exactly, circular battery mod). After the game downloaded from the store, I opened the app and it began to download the larger files the game requires. I sat the Nook down while it was downloading and eventually the screen turned off/timed out. I tapped the power button to see where the download was and it would not turn on.
So, as of now, pushing the buttons in any combination for any amount of time does nothing. Plugging the tablet into the wall gives me a green light only (never orange). Holding the power button (and any button in combo) for ~10 seconds kills the green light. Pressing the button again lights the green light. I've left the tablet on the charger for over eight hours, two different times now, no change.
Plugging the tablet into the PC acts the same as above, however the PC also repeatedly gives USB device connect/disconnect warnings (sounds) for a bit.
WTF, any advice?
I looked in the previous threads about non-booting but no one I could find had my issue. Bought the Nook HD+ about 4 months ago and rooted it and installed Android (not sure which version but cm11). Out of the blue, last week I pulled it out of my bag and the battery % was flipping between 1% and 31%, so I put some stuff on it via USB and then shut it down to charge. I plugged it in overnight and tried turning it on in the morning. All I was getting was the low battery picture, so I kept trying to charge it, but it wasn't charging, the power light would go to orange when I plugged it in, thena fter 3-5 seconds it would flip green and then turn off and retry. My assumption is the battery is dead, but it could be a corrupted OS now as I got it to charge long enough to get to the CM11 boot menu. But I even went out and bought a new charger and converter to rule that out and it still is stuck in the same boot sequence. I obviously can NOT charge this thing while it is off because of it's reboot loop, it can't charge. I'm not quite sure what is going on or whether it is a battery or boot issue but after I leave it for a big it freezes on the cyan picture (which is frozen on some scrambled version of it) until I turn it off.
I can't power it on enough to charge it to rule out the battery, I tried holding the power and n button for 3 seconds, letting go of the power, and then pressing it again to get into the recovery menu, but that isn't working either. And I prepared another SD card for a second flash for a corrupted OS and that didn't seem to work either.
I'm stuck here and I'm not sure what to do now to get it running again. I don't care about the data on my tablet at the moment.
Try plugging it into a PC USB port over night.

That's what I did that got it charged enough to get to try to boot, where it now shuts down. But now as it tries to boot it reboots, maybe from too much power consumption? I only had it plugged in for half hour or hour before that got it charged to the point where it boots to the logo screen. I have a feeling it is not charging because every reboot the light turns off (orange light stays on for like 5 seconds)
I will plug it in to my PC and charge it overnight and let you know what happens. It's interesting, I plug it in now and the orange charge light comes on, shows the Nook screen, then shows the low battery screen and shuts off, then the orange light turns off, but it remains plugged in... not sure if it is still charging but as I said, I will leave it overnight and see what that gets me.
No success. I can turn it on and the charging lights turns on for 5 seconds and shows the nook screen, then goes black and shows the low battery screen, then immediately shuts off and the charging light turns off and it no longer charges.
Any other suggestions? I can't seem to do anything with the Nook now.

I have a Nook HD+, which has sat unused for about a year. Predictably, it does not turn on.
When I connect it to the power supply (tried with multiple supplies and cables), the LED lights up green; after 2-3 seconds, it turns orange and I can hear the voltage converter whine; after a few more seconds, the LED turns off, and the whine stops.
Pressing the power button just causes the same sequence to repeat. Keeping it pressed has no effect.
I have left it connected to the power supply for several hours, but nothing changed.
I have opened it and unplugged the battery. Connecting the power supply with the battery unplugged results in the LED flashing green/orange. Re-plugged the battery, and I'm back at the situation described at the beginning.
Any suggestion? Apart from "sell it for parts", I mean
hold power button for 10 seconds - it will either turn off or turn on the device.
hit on power button once again - hold it again for 10 seconds.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work.
Regardless of how long I keep the power button pressed, the LED goes through the same sequence: green for 3 seconds, oranngo for 2 seconds, then turns off.
Looks like your battery is dead indeed. You could try to test its voltage using a voltimeter. How many contacts does it have? I think there are battery replacement being sold.
I had problems with my Nook HD+ last week. Though not as extreme as your issue, I left mine unplugged for a few weeks and it died completely. It didn't want to resurrect. Plugging it only showed the battery icon...even after two hours.
Left it on charge for 8 hours while I was off at Uni. Came back to it fully charged. So I would suggest at least leaving it on charge for a half day.
I tried to look into a replacement battery and they are apparently impossible to find...Hummingbird batteries are everywhere on eBay and specialty electronics sites. (I couldn't even find an HD+ battery on Alibaba or cheap Chinese sites.)
I wondered whether the aftermarket 4000mAH Hummingbird battery can be retrofitted. I haven't looked but given a soldering iron and ingenuity, I'm sure it can. A battery is a battery...given the voltage is right and 4000mAH is the HD+'s rating anyway. If you ventured to take that route, let me know how it goes.
(Also, I ended up finding a fix for the battery instantly dropping to 1% problem, which is why I came here to make a thread sharing the news for anyone else who has suffered. Off to do that now )

I had the same issue, I had to leave mine unplugged for like 24 hours and then leave it plugged in for a whole day. I'm afraid to let it turn off now.
I have a Nook HD+ 9 inch tablet (BNTV600) that I haven't used in a year. I finally found the charging cord I had misplaced and tried to charge it, but the indicator light on the bottom flashes green, then orange, then a continuous blinking red, and will not power on. I've tried charging from my computer USB port, as well as the Nook charger that came with it, as well as a friend's charger (her nook works fine so I know its not her charger) and it still does the green/orange/flashing red, but not turning on.
The last time I used my Nook it worked perfectly, so I'm at a loss as to why it would not work if it was just sitting on my bookshelf for a year.
Any help/suggestions appreciated! I'd love to get this working again
Try pressing the power button + and n button at same time and hold for about 30 seconds, if that dont work, you might need a new battery, I Had to replace my battery got it from EBAY, My BN NookHD+ is working very good, I have Android 7.1.2 in it.
I had a similar problem. The charging indicator was flashing red. Powering off and then on again resulted in the indicator flashing orange and green for about 10 seconds then back to red. I tried all the methods suggested from various websites . All to no avail. Before finally giving up, I remembered that way back I had revived a battery by putting it in the freezer before trying to charge it. So I put the nook in a sealed plastic bag and popped it in the
freezer for an hour or so, took it out and and connected it to the charging cable. The orange light came on and stayed on. The Nook was obviously charging and when the software eventually loaded (after about 2 hours) the battery had charged to 5%. It then took a further 10 hours to charge to 100%. The battery has been discharging at the normal rate depending on use. From a low level (about 10%) it is taking about 4 hours to charge to 100%.
I have no idea if freezing the device was the real reason and solution to the problem but it worked for me.
