Sprint cross flashed to US Unlocked - LG V40 Guides, News, & Discussion

After crossflashing my sprint device to US Unlocked software since last year. I haven't gotten any updates since. There are like 2 updates released since then. Anyone getting the same issues ?
Attached are screenshots.

Use LGUP to update now. We're on 20e. And hopefully sometime soon, LG will release Android 10.

You cannot get OTA updates once you have crossflashed. You have to manually update via KDZ & LGUP.
What carrier are you using it on? I crossflashed my Sprint V405UA phone onto V405QA7 firmware but am not getting any VoLTE or VoWiFi at all (also rooted and bootloader unlocked). I'm on a T-Mobile MVNO, which should have VoLTE. Also, LTE Band 71 is a no no for me even though it's available in my area. My phone also only has 3 LTE band selection menus (I used shortcut master lite) that are very buggy and is missing the T-Mobile hidden menu.

Sigh the only thing I really can't take is the constant data loss during updates. I feel I'll hold out till Android 10

I bought an ATT v40 for super cheap off ebay but needed to use a verizon MVNO so I just bought a verizon branded one. Is it possible to get the ATT one to work on verizon? Should I change the firmware on either?
Edit: Also, I should add that the phone is SIM locked. ATT won't let me unlock it because they say it is still financed. I wonder if I should pay one of those unlocking sites to unlock it or return it?

How you made crossflashing?

[Q] Droid 4 unlocked?

Does anyone knows if is possible to unlock a Droid 4 or to buy an unlocked one? I am in Venezuela and I want one of those phones. Thanks in advanced.
This is pretty much the same as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537658
Right now, no it is not possible to get the Droid 4 unlocked as the GSM radio is not enabled and thus it is only running on Verizon CDMA/LTE bands. Hopefully with a firmware update Verizon will enable the rest of the radios in the device.
Thank you blpw , it is very nice to know it, I will wating for any update from Motorola/Verizon
How long does it usually take to get this update so we can use this phone overseas on our networks? I really want the Droid 4 and I have no idea how long new phones take to be "unlocked" for use at other countries. But when it does Im sure this device will make a killing for the seller on ebay

There is no information available to tell how long it will take. This is new territory, having an LTE phone from Verizon that is theoretically global capable. All previous VZW global phones were 3G and worked everywhere out of the box.
I have read that Verizon will enable GSM roaming for this phone with an firmware upgrade by the first half of the year.
Can firmware update change the frequency? I read this at a forum
So the phone is pointless to wait for if they ever do release that firmware update?
A firmware update can not add frequency compatibility to a phone, it is a hardware limitation.

You can have the hardware but without the properly software you have nothing. The same thing happened with the Xyboard from Verizon. Look at google: "Software update gives the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 global roaming capabilities"
awww now I dont know if I should just get the HTC mytouch slide 4 or wait for the Droid, Ill be spewing if they dont release this global roaming software, I dont understand this frequency stuff and I still dont really know what Australia should require much, I know some of the stats but Ill be peaking if the Droid never gets this software then I wait for nothing.

Moving from AT&T to T-Mobile

I am sure this has probably been asked before but I couldn't find a clear answer.
I have the AT&T version of the Galaxy Note 4. I am thinking of changing my provider to T-Mobile (for a bunch of reasons including I have come to hate AT&T). I know the AT&T version will work on the T-Mobile network as a Smartphone with a T-Mobile SIM. But I have several questions.
1. From what I have been reading, it appears that the AT&T bootloader is locked. Is that correct? So does that mean I won't be able to put in a T-Mobile ROM or a ROM from here?
2. If I can't put in a T-Mobile ROM and unlock the bootloader, how will I be able to get future updates for the phone once I have switched to T-Mobile. I currently have the latest official AT&T OTA release (5.1.1, Baseband N910AUCU2DOI2, Kernel 3.10.40-5613584, etc.). But Samsung has promised Marshmallow for this phone.
Any thoughts anyone? Or should I just break down and buy a T-Mobile phone or a Google Nexus 6P?
Thanks

You can do updates using samsung keis... look into cricket wireless, I hated tmobile, the messed my bills up constantly and the service was iffy... if u have good service with att cricket will be the same for 35 bucks a month. Make sure you carrier unlock your phone with art BEFORE YOU CANCEL!

are all s8s the exact same hardware? ( US )

Im thinking about buying the s8+ verizon phone from samsnug direct as they have a great trade in program currently
my questions are..
Do i have to be on verizon to get updates? Im thinking of taking it to straight talk
Can i flash an unlocked firmware of this and the phone still remains working fine?
DOe sit have bands for tmobile / att ?
They are supposedly the same exact hardware. Some of us flashed the combination firmware to be able to unlock the LTE bands. If you stay on Verizon firmware, you will not get any OTA's. However you can use their update software as well as Samsung smart switch software to do manually updates. Plus you can always download VZW firmware from places like Updato.

I am interested in buying the galaxy s8 plus for verizon as well since i will be getting a good deal but I use and would like to stay using AT&T service.
I know that the verizon model is GSM unlocked and could be used with AT&T. I would need to update the APN's to make everything work correctly.
My concern is if it will pick up all the AT&T bands if the phone even supports all the bands. You stated you flashed the combination firmware to unlock the LTE bands.
Would that be exactly what i would need?
If so do you have a link ?
after posting this question I will be doing a search as well.
TIA.
You should just flash the Att firmware then. Check the switch carrier posts for detailed instructions

V40 upgrade from V30

Have a V30 now and because of their prices, have considered purchasing another as a backup. Looking at Swappa, I see the V40 is less than $100 more expensive and rootable.
On AT&T but hate having the logo on the back, so buy either international or unlocked. If I were to buy a Sprint, carrier unlocked V40, and flash Pie, for instance, what modem will I be using? Can I use an AT&T modem for? I know on the V30, the US998 covers everything...just wondering how it corresponds to this.
Also wondering how much of an improvement the phone is over the V30. Biggest complaint I have is the ability to see the screen in daylight. Everything else is fine, for me.
Thanks in advance!

So if you buy Sprint V40 it's carrier locked unless you can verify that it has been unlocked for other Sims....and if you do upgrade to Pie it would be US unlocked Pie which uses the unlocked modem...but it will still keep the option to update PRL and Profile...but apn settings will be able to be edited...that I'm aware of the network unlock should still be present once you go from Sprint Oreo to US Unlocked Pie....

Saw it on Swappa from someone I have used before, stating carrier unlocked. APN should be set by SIM card so not worried about that.
Concern is having the correct bands for use in AT&T vs Sprint, 1, and 2, is it worth the <$100 upgrade from the V30 to the V40?

If the US unlocked V40 acts like a Samsung S9/S10/Note 10 once you pop in a different SIM card it'll recognize it, reboot, and apply the correct settings for that carrier. This might help with your modem concern as I'm just talking out of my rear right now, but maybe the unlocked modem has the correct carrier info.

This is usually the case but was not sure what modem would be applied using the bootloader unlock method.
Biggest wonder, though, is whether this phone is worth the extra $100, from a real world perspective.

Advice for getting a v40

I want to get a v40 to replace my Redmi Note 7
I use T-Mobile but know not to get the T-Mobile v40. So I was curious if it would be better for me to get a different one and unlock it or what should I do?
Any advice would be great because I don't want to put my self in a pickle where I have a nice paperweight
No need to get a TMo version.
A cross flashed Sprint V405UA to LG v405QA will work on TMo and get all TMo bands, plus TMo VoLTE and TMo VoWi-FI and TMo HD Voice. I know because that's the model I bought, cross flashed, and use on TMo.
I see no reason why a cross flashed Verizon or ATT wouldn't be equally good. But I can't speak there from personal experience.
But there's no cross-flashing possible on a TMo version. Once TMo, always TMo.

I saw you in some other posts and I was hoping to get you to respond to this. Thank you. I'll have to keep my eye out to see if I can find a sprint one. I like my redmi note 7, but there are many features that I want that it just simply doesn't have. But are there any other weird quirks I should know? Again, thank you.
Thanks for kind words. I seem to have a bit more time on my hands now ... I wonder why ....
The only weird quirks I think are worth mentioning is that it is not easy to root and install TWRP. Several have had issues doing so. It can be done, I and others are living proof, but it's not for the fainthearted. You'll have to bounce back and forth between several threads to get it right. There's no one comprehensive guide. If you're not looking to go that route, there really are no quirks.
As for sourcing one, I picked up mine, a mint condition device, off of eBay for $145. A steal for a phone of this caliber. They seemed to have upped the price in the meantime.

Troubles with getting TWRP working don't bother me. I don't mind that. I love messing with things a little too much. Also, with that link that you sent, although the listing said you can't use third party software to unlock it, you still can. Correct? (Well the listing you sent said that it was sprint only, but not specifically unlocked. But it showed me a similar one that is $170 that says it's sprint locked)(also that because it technically isn't software that you're using to unlock the device.)
And I do wonder why you would have more free time on your hand, I could never tell why...
In many cases, these eBay vendors have no idea what they are selling or what "tethers" come with which phones. See here's the thing. If the device is paid off, it can't/shouldn't be carrier locked. You own it free and clear, and should be able to put it on any carrier with which the phone is compatible.
From reading these forums, I knew I could convert (cross-flash) a v405UA (Sprint) device over to a v405QA (US version) which would enable more bands (that I needed/wanted for my eventual migration to TMo). And if the device in that listing was somehow actually carrier locked to Sprint, I knew I could get Sprint to unlock it. I had Sprint, I knew I was going to use the v40 for a while on Sprint, so I could easily verify its carrier unlocked-ness, and could correct it if needed.
But I didn't need to. The v405ua (which was originally attached to Sprint at some time in the past by a different customer) came to me carrier unlocked. Three weeks later, I had that same device, crossflashed, rooted, with TWRP, on TMo happily making use of the extra TMo bands, VoLTE and VoWi-Fi, and HDVoice (none of which a non-crossflashed v405UA could).
[NG]Owner
Ok, so if it isn't paid off then the seller is selling a bad phone, and they should list that in the description.
I'll buy the $170 mint condition v40 because it's a good price for the phone, and I'll have something to mess with. Thank you, again. I appreciate all the help.
It'll be nice to have a nicer phone again. I loved my S8 before I broke the screen, and after I had modded it.

I have gotten twrp working along with being able to install linageos
Only issue is that it asks for a password and I don't know what to do from here. I need to sleep.... I've been at this for far too long

Took me like 3 minutes of reading. After wiping data it is fixed. That was easy
