Ok, so everything was working fine yesterday. I woke up this morning and decided to play a little 'world of photo'. It FC's, so I mess with it for a little bit before just trying to open my normal camera. When I try to open my camera, it puts the screen in sleep mode, so I have to hit the power button and unlock the screen like normal, then it gives me the error "Cannot connect to camera".
My phone is rooted and flashed with the latest Cyanogen business, but like I said, nothing was altered, updated, downloaded, etc. My camera just stopped working. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Really hoping to get this resolved without having to contact HTC, as I'm sure the unlocked bootloader screen will cost me a small fortune.
If I open an alternative camera app, it opens, but doesn't work. I can back out and then go to my default camera and it works until I close it. Then it won't open again without having to go through the steps of opening the other app, etc.
I'd try a nandroid restore.
Tried it already. Tried restoring back to original, wiping, everything else. Nothing worked. Camera wasn't working all morning, now all of a sudden it's working again. Guess I'll just count my lucky chickens and chalk this up as a win...
Well, my happiness was short lived. Still having the same problem. I'm really not sure what exactly it could be. But the fact it worked the one time today gives me hope.
also having this problem. tried a nand backup and also wiping and re-flashing the gapps and the cm-5.0.4.1 update.. still nothing
it seems my camera went bad somehow, tried even flashing the stock rom, nothing... i'm calling htc, crap my phone is unlocked.. wish me luck.
update: yeap, im getting a replacement. they put $529 on hold on a credit card, send you the device and once they get the "damaged" device they release the funds... meh..
Hey velazcod, you think we can get an update on his this worked out? I'm having the same camera problem and I too am bootloader unlocked. I'd like to hear how HTC handled your unlocked device.
sorry for not posting a status before... so here is what happened:
- Called HTC and they didnt have any issues replacing the phone since the issue seemed to he a hardware issue. They have been nice about this, depends on the hardware issue, I guess if you burn the motherboard they will probably get *****y.
- You can send it to get repaired or replaced, both are in warranty, unless they find some other issue (water damage, etc). However, if you decide to get it replaced they would take your credit card, and put $528 on hold for a few days until they get the original phone back. They dont actually charge it to the credit card, just an authorization, it all depends in your bank, for example my bank (chase) put the money back in my account after 5 days.
- Anyway, I got my "new" N1, and I double checked everything before unlocking the bootloader and doing our stuff. The phone was crap, it was slow and the sticker on the battery cover seemed like it was removed, maybe a refurbished unit. I called and *****ed about it, and they said I needed to send my original phone back, and then later on request another replacement. I kept *****ing because I could live with a bad camera for a few weeks, but not with a slow phone
- Anyways, in the end they allowed me to send back that refurbished unit. After a few weeks i had no response from them and I had to call them, a day after i got my new phone, this time it was good, so i unlocked it, did my thing, factory reset the original phone and sent it on its way.
- It all seemed good for a few weeks, until i got a call from HTC saying that I needed to pay for a repair fee ($60 something) because they had found the problem had been user damage. the girl had no idea how to back that up, and i kept saying that i had never drop the phone or broken the camera in purpose (which is true). She said she was going to escalate the issue and I would get a call back. Still waiting.
In the end I got my new phone and we are all happy, but be careful, I love HTC but don't let them screw you.

yes that isnt that bad. and i would pay it no problems if it really was my fault. but really, i take care badly of my phones and i had never drop or have done anything to my phone that would cause this camera issue.
besides, the girl that called me had no idea what really happened or what they found, when they call me i will post the info here.
Quick update:
I was having the "cannot connect to camera" error. Turns out that it was an issue with my memory card. Apparently, the card was slightly mis-seated.
Prior to discovering that, I tried everything. I flashed other ROMs, nandroid flashed back to stock, and manually restored to stock.
The weird thing is that the memory card was still functioning properly in every other aspect. I could browse my phots in the gallery and browse the contents of the memory card in Astro. Prior to my discovery, I had also formatted the memory from the settings menu. On a whim, I shut the phone down, removed the memory card, reinserted the memory card, booted it back up and gave it a shot. To my surprise, it worked!
I just thought I'd let you guys know so anyone else having a similar issue can try reseating the memory card before giving up and paying HTC for repair.

Well, keep in mind that it could be a placebo effect, and you think you are fixing it by fiddling the SD card but its not real.
The reason I tell you that is because, when the issue started happening for me, I would get that error randomly, and then it started happening more frequently until it totally stopped working.
Also, the Camera app not detecting the SD card gets an error when you try to take a picture and it actually says the specific SD card error. Try taking the SD card out and try it out, you will get a visual of the camera on the display, but when you try to take the picture it gives out the "SD card not detected" error... on the other hand, you might be experiencing something totally different.
This error "cannot connect to camera" also comes with the camera app not loading completely and visual of the camera not loading on the screen. Also try loading up the Barcode Scanner, you should get a similar error and no visual of the camera.
I agree that it could be placebo effect. But, I was experiencing all of the things you describe regarding the camera app not loading completely and barcode scanner not working properly. I know the error that you're talking about when you open the camera app without any memory card at all and that definitely was not what I was experiencing. Also, the was nothing random or intermittent my cannot connect to camera errors. It stopped working about four days ago and no ammount of reboots, reflashes, or nandroid restores could bring it back. It wasn't until I reseated the memory card that the camera was able to load and function again. My suspicion is that when a memory card is present and you open the camera app, it tries to do something with the card as part of the loading process. I suspect that the card being slightly mis-seated causes this to fail and prevents the camera from loading properly.
I will definitely keeps you guys posted. Hopefully this is a lasting fix and not a placebo.

Update:
So, although the fix I previously mentioned did work, I started having other issues that indicated that the actual camera hardware was failing. When I would start up the camera app the camera image displayed on the screen started showing color distortion. Sometimes it would do that and sometimes it wouldn't. I noticed that if it wasn't distorted, I could lightly squeeze the sides of the phone and the image would become distorted and would not go back to normal after I stopped squeezing. I figured that indicated hardware issues but decided to try a low level format on my memory card just in case it was an issue of bad blocks on the card. The format didn't fix anything. A few hours later, the camera died and never came back. I started a ticket with HTC for an advanced replacement. I received my new phone on Friday and am sending back the old one today. I restored it to unrooted factory ROM and recovery image. I will keep you guys posted as to what, if any charges they try to stick me with.

Final update:
I returned my phone with the broken camera on Monday. Tuesday I received an email stated that they had received my device and it had a link to website that I could use to get updates on the status of the repair/return. I checked in the following day with no change. Today it showed this:
Status: We have completed your case. If you can help us improve our service, or would like to comment, please contact HTC customer service representatives.
Service Type: Repair
Service Model: C4-On site exchange
Failure Description: C/x states can not open camera app-freezes or force closes
I even called HTC to make that the ticket was closed and that they didn't need anything else from me. They said that everything was good.

On my case, I was never contacted again by the "escalated rep"... but I just checked my ticket/case and it seemed to have been closed, so I guess good news.

I am having the same problem as you both had. Í am seeing the same symptoms such as not able to run the camera app. My phone screen goes blank when i try to open the camera app and the bar scanner program says it cannot connect to the camera and that I might need to restart my device. I have tried to use previous roms and removed the sd card but nothing seems to work. I am wanting to send it in for repair but I wanted to know what else I should do to my phone besides reflashing the stock rom. Did either of you have the amonRa recovery program and how did you remove it if you did. Is there anything else I should do?

I got the original shipping rom package from modaco and renamed it PASSIMG.zip and flashed it from the bootloader. It restored everything to stock...recovery, radio, and os.

So I've gone on the HTC website again and looked at the specs of my HTC HD7 (as I have done many times before, e.g. when I was finding out the official "spec" for GPS on the phone - related).
Anyway, it seems that HTC have recently made a change to the specs page, they have split the internal storage size spec - 8GB for Europe handsets, and 16GB for Asia. I am 99% certain this was not the case a few months ago, it used to just say 16GB.
I happen to have 2 HTC HD7s (one bought from O2, one purchased offline, both acquired within a few weeks of each other - around Feb/March time this year):
Both boxes have the same P/N as each other, and also same model barcodes (6HTGD7XN)
Both boxes have identical specifications printed on them, also identical packaging and contents
Only discernable difference between them is that the O2 handset has a silver kickstand bed and the other handset's kickstand bed is orange.
Frustratingly, my O2 phone started its dying process after the Mango update. It never misbehaved before. Slowly and intermittantly at first, I would get random reboots, giving me "Memory card not working" error screens, setting itself as incorrect time, and even wiped itself a few times (meaning I had to reconfigure everything from scratch). I searched all over the net, checked and tried all sorts of remedies suggested on forums, e.g. doing a full factory reset, uninstalling all the HTC apps, disabling location services, disabling 3G/data connections, etc. Also I hadn't played any music with it since the Mango update either, so it wasn't the music player for which some people reported problems.
Sometimes the phone could go 12-18 hours without so much as a hiccup, and other times it would crash and reboot within a minute of starting. My SIM card has a PIN on it, so I always knew if my phone had rebooted itself. On average I'd say it happened a 2-3 times a day, though some days it would happen 10+ times.
Keeping my data connection turned off and only using Wifi seemed to keep the crashes at bay for several days, at least until today. I'm a fairly tolerant guy, but today was the last straw.
I was playing a new game I downloaded (Jewel³) when travelling to work, when suddenly it crashed and rebooted just like it did so many times before. I rolled my eyes and waited so I could carry on with it until the next crash, except instead of the usual process of booting up and acting normal, it kept crashing and factory resetting itself, asking me to configure the phone for the first time after every single crash/boot. That was it, now it was well and truly buggered. I took it to the O2 shop and they have now taken it in for repair. I assumed the memory card somehow developed a hardware fault, though the timing of when these issues started happening seemed too coincidental with the Mango update.
This is where my spare HD7 comes in handy. I've barely touched it since taking it out of the box brand new about 8 months ago (was meaning to sell it but never got round to it). I threw in my SIM card and began the update process using Zune. All updates successful etc but then afterwards I suddenly noticed the bottom of the Zune window. I went into the phone "about" screen, yep, 8GB total capacity, even though the box says 16GB.
So what I'm thinking is this: does the Zune Mango update patch actually recognise I am in Europe and try to flash the phone into only utilising 8GB? Even if the memory card has a physical capacity limit of 16GB?
If that's what happened to my first phone, that certainly explains the random rebooting behavior and memory errors, as I probably had parts of my data occupying the space which the Mango patch told the phone to ignore.
Just a hypothesis, anyone here got a 16GB HD7 in Europe which had a lot of data on it pre-mango, and had any similar problems afterwards?
It would also be interesting to know if you fall under this category and haven't had ANY issues since mango. I would like to try getting to the bottom of this, as my searches on the net seem quite fruitless (this was the best thread I could find, though I couldn't reply as I'm not a WP7 developer)
Mango is more sensitive to SD card timing issues... Check out the how to upgrade your phone to 32G in the general section... I benchmarked the factory 16GB card, a 32GB card that wouldn't work (constant reboots) and a 4 year old 8GB card... all Sandisk Class 4.
the 8 and 32 are undeniably not going to work, the FACTORY card is marginal, and I have been getting occasional reboots since upgrading to Mango. If I downgrade to NoDo, the reboots cease.
Ah ha, very interesting, and that certainly explains a lot. I wonder if my "repaired" phone will still suffer the occasional crash like your 16GB did. Would be nice to see which make of memory card they use (assuming they will replace it), though I don't want to void my warranty doing it!
I am having a boot loop issue. I have T-Mobile G4 that is NOT rooted. I bought it on release day. I too would get random reboots, particularly after the recent security update. I also noticed that the operating temperature was really high, a lot lately. I thought it was a rogue app (clean master). Anyway, I updated a few apps and installed a few watch faces. Suddenly, my phone was drained prematurely. Plugged it into a quick charge charger when all the fun begins. Early on it would boot to the home screen but would reboot a minute or two later. Then it stopped booting to home. On two occasions that I caught, it was starting up like a firmware update just installed with the "Android is starting 1 of 143 apps" type of line. After seeing that and still not getting to home, I figured I might as well factory reset it. Well I was amazed to discover that a factory reset yields the same boot loop. All I get is the LG logo.
Defeated. I go to my local TMo retailer where I bought the phone only to find out that I have to wait for delivery of a replacement( I smell refurb). I'm in Jump btw. I did notice that when the phone will boot to home screen for whatever length of time, the LED would work. The LED does not work during a boot loop. My research on this issue uncovered an alarming trend on the Internet. No solutions other than replacement. No cause has been identified either. Without proof, these are my top suspicions: Quick charge, 128G SD, apps moved to SD. My hunch is quick charge. All of my chargers are Qualcomm certified quick chargers. and I use them 95% of the time. I would hate to add LG to my list of boycotted Android vendors under Samsung.
Things I tried:
Recovery mode
Download mode
No SIM, Battery and/or SD
Swapping batteries
Safe mode (once)
This happened to me yesterday. I was listening to music through the bluetooth at the gym and it stopped playing. When I walked over to the phone it was already in a boot loop.
Reflashing does nothing nor does a factory reset. They are sending me a new one as well.
Funny thing is once it did make itself passed the boot screen to: "updating apps" This smells like an update is bricking phones. I went to the store and the agent said he couldn't find any data on a recent update but I think he wasn't looking at the right place. If there's an update bricking phones I will be livid. I'm 40 days away from a Jump upgrade and they said I can't exchange it early anyway because it "has to be in working condition." Well no ****, YOU can do the warranty replacement...give me a new phone! I too abandoned Samsung after the Lollipop Note Edge upgrade made the phone discharge in 3 hours or less and run as smooth as gravel. LG has suddenly made me sour too.

Also tried everything you did. I went with TMO's replacement, and to my surprise, it was a new phone rather than a refurb.

So about Tuesday (14th) morning, my G4 rebooted itself, and went into perpetual bootloop. I bought it on 3/10/2016, so it was out of warranty by a few days. I'd heard, various places online, that people were getting their G4s fixed even out of warranty, but ....
First, I went to the T-Mobile store where I bought the phone. The rep there didn't know about the bootloop issue, and said he wasn't able to help me.
Next, I contacted LG live chat online, and they said they were unable to help because the camera lens is broken. (That happened within a month or so after getting the phone. Even if I didn't tell them up front, they still would have found out when they got it. I'd considered buying a replacement & installing it myself previously, but never could figure out which was the exact OEM model or where to get it.)
I really need to preserve the data that's on the phone. I'm not just talking about pictures, documents, downloaded files, etc (I think camera pics are backed up automatically, but idk about screenshots for example) ... I also mean Wi-Fi credentials, my 60-70+ open Chrome browser tabs & history, txt/mms messages, call logs, voice mails (stored in the T-Mo Visual Voicemail app) - basically everything.
Both T-Mobile and LG, if I understood right, told me that if they took the phone in for repair, one of the first things they'd do is factory reset it, which would wipe out that data, and I can't have that.

I'm still trying to figure out what all I want in the phone, or what my budget is. (I *do* know I don't want anything by Apple, or an equivalent of the G4 or Note 7 of course.) My initial budget idea (ONLY for complete phone replacement, NOT if repair is involved), subject to modification, would include taking the $ I would have used to upgrade my 4790K desktop PC to Ryzen 7, and instead getting a new phone. I'm thinking anywhere from $300 to $800. A few preliminary models that popped up in my search are the LG G6, Galaxy S8, Note 8, 1+5, Pixel/2, and a few other Asian-sounding brands I'm not sure about yet. If it's decided I have to get a new phone, I'll be making another post/thread asking for more advice in detail on that.

the safe way is to do the freezer method search and youll find tutorial.. get you data and stuff. use titanium to back up apps with data with the paid app..

I've heard of the freezer method. I did pop it in the fridge and it almost started to work for a minute, but maybe I should try the freezer. I've also heard of people heating it and getting some temporary use out of it.
I have the paid Titanium Backup on my rooted Galaxy Relay 4G, but I haven't rooted the G4. And, once I went to a new phone, how would I restore without root? (I'd decided not to root until the warranty expired, but it'd be nice to get one that's more friendly to that in the future, also have better full backups, etc.)
Also I've heard there's a way to disable a couple cores & get it working that way, but I have Marshmallow and I hear it requires Lollipop.

we have antirollback in h811 if you are in 20i you are okey to downgrade if higher then 20i say 20o then you cant downgrade to lollipop.
not sure how you would go about restoring. your data..

Hmm... well since I can't boot (for now) past the LG screen, idk if I can even get TO a place where I can attempt a rollback.
And even if I have to use other methods to get the data back (so long as it doesn't cost much, as in less than the cost of an SD card) ... then another important criteria for my next phone is automatic backup of *everything*, either to the cloud, or to a second removable micro SD card, or something. is bootloopng . thats a hardware issue.. i would suggest to do the freezer method .making sure no moist gets in phone.. i think people put in frezzer with cable and recovers their data.
So ... the freezer method has worked (with the phone in a Ziploc bag), at least partially. After turning off WiFi, a few days ago I was able to use ES File Explorer (already installed) to copy the internal phone memory to a 128GB SD card which was only about 10-20% full or so. (I couldn't copy absolutely everything, as my G4 isn't rooted yet.) I did it in stages - first copied several user data folders just in case it croaked mid-backup (it didn't), then did the rest.
Just earlier this morning, I used SuperBackup+ (or whatever it's called, I forget atm & the phone's charging again) to back up a few more things.
Then I went into the settings to see if anything was set to back up to the cloud, or could be backed up. Under "Backup and Reset", it was set to back up to my Google account. I also checked a few other settings.
Right before turning on WiFi again, I opened CPU-Z, to find most of the temps around 8°C. After turning WiFi back on, within seconds most of the temps shot up to the 30s to 60s °C, and the top 2 on the list (which included battery) pegged at 140°C, then the phone rebooted itself. So apparently turning WiFi on quickly overwhelms the phone. (I can't use mobile data, as I took the SIM card out and am using it in my SGH-T699 for now.) It then started up briefly, and while I *think* I may have been able to turn off WiFi again before it rebooted again, it started looping, from what I could tell. (Was probably time to take a break anyway, as I'd been standing there for a good 10-15 minutes or so with the freezer door open.)
I'm still hoping I might have a little bit of life left for backing up, after giving the phone a rest, battery a charge, letting the freezer settle down, and refreezing the phone.
One more thing I'd like to do with the phone - root it. Is there a way to do it without an internet connection, if possible without a computer (although maybe I could shut the freezer door on the USB cable), and for sure without wiping the device? I'd really like to use Titanium Backup Pro (already installed) to back everything up to the 128GB SD card.
Also I've heard about possibly disabling the two fast CPU cores, but also heard that may only work on Lollipop. (My G4 has Marshmallow installed.)
Anyway, right now the phone is plugged in (out of the freezer) and charging again. Interesting thing though ... while it was powered on in the freezer, it was saying I had 51% battery left. (This was right after I'd pulled it off the charger and it said 98-100% or so - the powered-off battery meter.) Then, plugging it back in (again powered off), it said 78%. Is the huge discrepancy in battery percentages temperature related, or indicative of another issue like a weakening battery? (The battery hasn't swelled at all, from what I can tell.)
I think it's time for a new phone soon, though. I might make another topic with more details, but a few I'm looking at maybe are the Asus Zenfone AR, Google Pixel, OnePlus 3T, Samsung Galaxy S7, maybe a few others. (I'm not as sure about the LG G6 or V20.) Other brands under consideration include HTC, Huawei, LeEco, Motorola, Oppo, vivo, Xiaomi & ZTE.
Basically I'd like something that
officially supports rooting / custom ROMs (and stock ROM is as close to vanilla Android as possible),
is officially supported for updates for a good while (for example if it comes with Android 7, I can upgrade to 9 or if possible 10 OTA, and beyond with community-made ROMs),
has a decent CPU/GPU (like SD 820/821/835 & Adreno 530/540),
plenty of RAM (6+ GB),
a decent amount of internal storage (64+ GB),
has either a micro SD slot or supports USB OTG or both,
among other things.
I'm guessing the 1+3T might be the best compromise? (Or stretch the budget & get the Pixel?) Or should I maybe consider waiting for the Pixel 2 or the OnePlus 4/5? Or get one of the other options / something else entirely? (I'd like to buy within the next month or two, if not sooner.) I had been planning to upgrade my desktop PC to AMD Ryzen 7, but figured I'd use the $ I would have spent on that, on the phone instead. (I can limp along on my i7-4790K a while longer, or my laptop's i7-6700K, etc, it'll just be somewhat slower in video editing, multitasking, etc. From what I hear my i7s are maybe faster at 1080p gaming, but I don't game all that much.)
I'm on T-Mobile - the $30/month 5GB+100min plan for now, but eventually tentatively plan to upgrade to unlimited with the unlimited hotspot addon.

I must admit,, I was ready to give up on this phone. After owning several very high spec phones, for their years , I found myself having to get a "budget " one.
This phone was the worst I had used. Constant slow down to the point of waiting 20 seconds for an app to even bring up keyboard, battery useless, all after the 8.1 update. However not the case now. How? Well . .
My phone went into a bootloop of just showing "no command". I sent it to Nokia repair, in Hungary, via DHL. for a 5 day turn around repair. I got back the same exact phone. They had put on 7.1.2, as the factory restore image I guess. I debated about updating to 8.1 then took the plunge and did so - a big 1.8GB update. Then, to my amazement, it installed - one after the other - all security updates up to November 1 2018. I previous hadn't had any since May. Took quite a while. Reboot for each one, etc. After November went on I rebooted, and then did a reset to factory via recovery.
This phone has a new lease of life. Seriously no slowdown, multiple apps, vastly increased battery life (granted it's only been 2 days, but still you can tell it will be), the speed is vastly, vastly improved and is something that I was not expecting.
So, maybe we should all get our phones a bit cranky (get them in a boot loop), make sure it's in warranty and send it for repair. One thing I have noticed is that they put on the default stock WW rom (which was not the case previously). That, I assume, is what has resulted in a new lease of life - and updates - for the phone.

It worked for me, expect that i didn't brought my phone to Nokia service.
I did noticed that the phone was really really slow even just on opening apps, it's a nightmare that considering there are phones cheaper than this and just works fine with apps.
They said that the updating to oreo will make it slow in some cases, i can't tell due to when i bought the phone, i immediately updated to Oreo
So i stopped the security updates from July cause i wanted root so bad that i was even planning to downgrade the thing, reasons are both i want the old speed back to this phone and root access.
But after i saw this post, i was curious... So i updated the phone to the latest security patch. And now it works great!
I can even play PUBG really smooth (which I can't back then)
