Cannot connect to Wifi after prolong Data use - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

As the title says, if I've used data for hours then I cannot connect to wifi... The wifi shows on the list but as I click nothing happens, the wifi list gets refreshed... Restating the phone solves the issue though... But still it's a pain in the arse to restart the phone every time...

I have this problem as well the phone every so often drops wifi and temporarily loses mobile data. Restarting the phone is the only way I've found to fix it which I agree really sucks.

Yes the phone drops wifi too... But I noticed that since the stable Android 10 update... Never had that issue on beta or Android 9...

WiFi App interference?

Is it possible for an App to interfere with the WiFi connection? I've downloaded plenty of third party, torrented apps and I've been noticing that my WiFi will work for a few pages and then stop loading, throwing up an error saying "Web page not available" showing the little Android. This would cause me to disable WiFi and go strictly with 3G. Enabling WiFi later would help with a few more pages until it wanted to die again.
After I uninstalled ALL of my apps and unrooted the phone, I've noticed that the WiFi works again (so far at least). I still have the same 1 bar signal from across the house, but it isn't giving any more errors.
I constantly used task killer to free up memory, so I don't think those apps would have made a difference in the sense that they may have been taking up some bandwidth or the such.
Any clues guys? Thanks for any help.
Same
I have the same problem. I rooted and did the settings.db. My wifi will turn on and connect but 20-30 seconds later it just turns off on its own. I haven't unrooted it to see if it fixes it though.
How did you unroot yours?
Thanks
Like, I'm pretty sure that's just karma, dude. Harsh vibes from people like me that make software for a living reaching out and disrupting your chakra centers. And your WiFis.
That and using Task Killer in the first place. Not needed, causes more problems than it solves (and it solves almost nothing on Galaxy S).
I am in the same boat--just started noticing it today when I got home from work and turned the phone back on only to see I wasn't connected to wifi. When I connected to my network again I noticed the 3G icon stayed on the screen with the wifi connection symbol, where the wifi icon used to replace the 3g icon. After a little while, it was gone.
I have rooted and removed some of the AT&T apps but nothing else. I havent sideloaded any apps either. It usually take me a couple of tries to connect to my router (WRT54GL). Sometimes it also seems that my phone turns off wifi by itself.
I hope this isn't a symptom of the battery cover antenna. Does your WiFi signal show as weak in the strength readout?

It does actually turn off wifi by itself! I did the following last night and haven't seen an issue since. As a new user, I can't post links: androidforums.com/samsung-captivate/130163-wifi-connection-turns-off-when-sleep-mode-default.html
From androidforums.com:
By default the wi-fi setting is set to go to sleep (and use cellular data instead) when the screen is off, which will most likely happen while you are streaming music as well as other things. To change it so the wi-fi never turns off, go into the phone's menu -> wireless and network -> wi-fi settings -> tap the menu button and select advanced which has an option for wi-fi sleep policy that had been defaulted to sleep "when screen turns off". There you have the option to change it to "never" or "never when plugged in".
Did a little more playing around with it, finally had to reset my router to maintain any type of consistent connection after restarting the phone. One weird thing is that my old iPhone wasn't able to connect to the router consistently last night until the reset either--it has never had any issues in the past.
After the reset, the captivate did maintain a consistent connection--I browsed a few websites and streamed part of a show from my computer using Allshare.
This morning when I turned on the phone wifi wasn't connected so I went into the settings and looks like the phone had attempted to connect unsuccessfully. I clicked it again to connect and it connected without any issue and was fine until I left for work. The whole thing seems a little wonky, as well as it should automatically try to re-connect if it fails the first time if network is in range, or at least give you an alert.
I just set up tdogz suggestion above, so we will see if it helps.

Haha sorry bud, but after browsing for some good videos to put on the phone my curiosity made me type in "android" in the torrent search box. I was amazed I could do such things.

Before I unrooted the WiFi wouldn't work with full or low bars, not sure of the strength readout.

Running into the same issue, I am positive it is a software issue. It only seemed to happen after I flashed my phone with the Odin One click downloader. Dunno if it is coincidence or not. Going to try clearing the user data from the recovery window to see if it helps. I also notices on the power widget, i cant control GPS from there, blue tooth as well i think.

Huzza! I figured my issue out, may be yours as well. Did you do the sideload hack with the settings.db? Turns out you need to change the owner of settings.db to system:
Code:
# chown system settings.db
After that, I was good to go. The logic behind this is that settings.db tracks more settings than just if you can sideload apps or not. I'm betting the system is trying to change a value in that file and it cant after the hack, so various systems fail.

[Q]WIFI not working everytime.

Hi,
I'm a proud O2X user.
Only issue I'm having right now is that WIFI won't start all the time.
Sometimes I enable WIFI and it gives me error.
Sometimes I enable WIFI and it directly works.
Most of the times when it ain't working, I soft reset and WIFI is powering on again.
I had this same issue on my DHD. That was caused by the kernell. So I think it's the same with my O2X. I'ma wait till 2.3.x cause I don't use WIFI that much. And If that doesn't fix the problem, I'ma make use of the VIP service.
Other people expierincing this issue.... ??
After I installed Juice defender I think it got a little more diffecult to connect. One time I experienced that my accesspoint in the list had status "Deactivated".

Mine is still stock not rooted....
And when WIFI does power on, it does connect to my accesspoint.
The funny thing is even trying to enable WIFI with hiddemenu doesn't work then aswell....
Got my O2X two days ago, and Wi-Fi reconnection after sleep mode simply doesn't work. It times out waiting for an IP address from the DNS service, disconnects, connects, waits for address, and fails again. Turning Wi-Fi off in Wi-Fi settings, and then turn it on again, solves the problem. Peculiar and annoying.

Same problem here
I called LG yesterday.
The 2.3 will be a big update.
Many thing should be fixed.
He noted:
E-mail client will be fixed.
Some lag in the UI would be fixed.
WIFI should be fixed.
Better powermanagement.
So hope these world will be true.
Or else I'ma trade it for a HTC HD7
Got the same problem, WIFI works sometimes and suddenly it doesn't.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA Premium App
This can be router/access point related. Using WPA2 Personal encryption causes my O2X to lose WIFI connection after a short while. Therefore, for those of you with problems, try disabling WIFI encryption (only for testing) or try some other encryption method.
If the phone wont connect to a open/non encrypted router or access point, then the problem lies with the phone (most likely but not for sure).
Try it out!

I got the "Deactivated" too. I got that when I had the phone Wifi sleep policy set to "When screen turns off". When I changed to "Never" it was stable. I have later changed to "Never when plugged in" and that has been stable too.
I will test reverting back to "When screen turns off" this weekend and see if the problem returns.

My WIFI won't start then. After Reboot it will work couple of times. But then again it gives ERROR while start WIFI.
I have had this happen to me the last few days, despite wifi working perfectly the entire of the first week I owned the phone.
I have seen both problems mentioned here:
Won't get past "obtaining IP address"
Switching it on or off says "error"
Also, in the case where it would error, I also noticed a significant slowdown. Plugging the phone and using ADB to read "top" gave me:
Code:
PID CPU% S #THR VSS RSS PCY UID Name
1284 49% R 1 0K 0K unk root dhd_dpc
19960 1% R 1 912K 428K fg root top
Which must be a rare issue as I could only find a reference to dhd_dpc messing up here, for a SGS owner who never got an answer.
Rebooting the phone always fixes these issues. Although sometimes going into airplane mode and out again will solve the "obtaining IP address" issue.
I only have the •Switching it on or off says "error" issue.
I figured out enabling disabling wifi with the LG Control buttons (in the notification bar) fixed this issue.
Now it is always working and not giving me error.
Back it the day with settings or the power management icons enabling wifi 9/10 times gave me error.

Did he mention when we could expect the update?
Btw, you should shut off the wifi-sleep in advanced settings, and the problem is solved. =)
I am a bit concerned..
My phone is connected fine to Wifi at home, and apparently this weekend I have used 91mb of network data!! I did not go out so my phone should have stayed connected to Wifi at all times. But when I wake it from sleep (only woke it when email or text notification came in) When the screen lock pops up there is the 3G/H icon that’s stays until I unlock the pattern – then the Wifi icon pops up….
Should it not stay connected to Wifi even in sleep, as how is it recovering emails and such??
I am eating up my 500mb allowance very quick even when on wifi!!!
I have had no problems with home wireless as my pc (on wireless) has over 500hrs uptime connected.

Where is this setting? I can't find it anywhere!
Don't worry ignore my prev 2 posts. Found the option. the "never" setting I would have through should have been dafault!

yes i have the same problem, but then i reset my linksys router, then it works again.
but i had the same problem with my htc hd2.
Same here.
I have turned sleep policy to never but wireless always drop in sleep mode (sometimes it just stop to reply to ping, other times it switch back to 3g).
I tried every different setting on router (beacon, auth, speed, channel...) and static IP, but still no luck :\

Stock, suddenly no wifi.

(5.1.1) I was on wifi at home. I headed out and have been on mobile data for most of the day. I went for a coffee and my wifi won't work. Tried turning the phone off and airplane mode.
When I click Wifi it says it's on with no networks available. I click More settings and it says Turning Wifi on, but doesn't.
I'd rather not reset the phone, any ideas? Thanks.
yea, reboot your phone.

I had that symptom once, while waiting in a doctor's office. Shutting down and booting back up solved it, but this was a few OTA builds ago (i.e., I'm currently stock, lazy me).

My connections don't even show up. I'm gonna let the battery run flat and then try... if not, then reset phone.
I let my battery die, my phone turned itself off after about 4% remaining. 10 hours later and when you hit the power button , it shows the low battery warning, but won't turn on.
So, the battery wasn't completely dead. I needed my phone, I plug it in to charge... And WiFi!!!!!!
Just updated to lmy48m... no wifi again. YAY!!! <_<
I'm having this exact problem w/ my WiFi, and I'm now suddenly getting the "!" appearing ever since updating to LMY48M.
i've been having this problem with build LYZ28J & LYZ28K randomly wifi would stop working. i'd reboot my phone and it would work again then it stoped, so i called Tmo got a replacement this time it took a few days and happened again this time i called Google and they called Motorola they had me wipe cache while i was on build LYZ28J and it worked... then i got the LYZ28K update then 3 days later this morning wifi stoped working again. So i figured doing a cache wipe would work again, but it didn't so i backed up everything and booted into recovery and wiped the phone thinking it would work but that did... still shows Wi-Fi toggle off and says turning on Wi-Fi. Called Tmo again they told me to take it to astore anfd get it diagnosed but im going to call google and see whats up. anyone have any luck getting this fixed ?
I'm also having this problem. Stock 5.1.1
Well I get my replacement phone today let's see if this issue happens I'm going to set it up as a new device.
I had the same problem. I've had pretty terrific success disabling Google Connectivity Service, which I think is somehow related to Project Fi. I went into apps, force stop, disable. Since then, I haven't had to reboot my phone. Before that, I was rebooting, toggling airplane mode, etc.
It's not 100% better though. I have had to toggle airplane a few times. But it's been much less frequent than before.
Suddenly happened today, probably the second time ever. No WiFi saved networks, couldn't locate signals, etc.
Rebooted the phone, everything fine again.
Odd.
- wader
I can not connect at all to my work's wifi where I have to enter my AD username and password, just can't connect. It worked mostly fine before Andorid 6.0
It is flaky on regular WPA2 wifi too at home, sometimes have to toggle the wifi or even reboot.
Wifi on the Nexus with Android 6.0 is poor to junk basically.

Oxygen OS Open Beta 17 - Constant WiFi dropout

So I've had OOS OB17 installed since it's release a few days ago and I've noticed that my WiFi signal keeps dropping every so often. This becomes really noticeable as when it drops the WiFi signal, the whole phone stutters/pauses for half a second to then connect to mobile data, then almost instantly reconnect to the same WiFi network.
This isn't a WiFi router problem as this happens at home, my work and the gym.

this has to be reported to oneplus.. and make sure you include logs.. so that they will see the basis of the report.. i think they have that feedback form for this

Question Wifi turn off itself...

Once back under wifi coverage if I must think to reactivate wifi else I needlessly consume my mobile DATA ...

Some android apps causing this issue ! Find it and remove it.
Hi, I would suggest to remove your WiFi connection from your phone, restart it twice and reinstall it, including network name and password. Maybe that will solve your problem. Regards, kuzibri

Did you ever find a fix for this? I'm always forgetting to turn it back on, and using loads of mobile data.
This problem might casusing due to some application which is conflecting with wifi settings. advice to re install the applications and then test. Factory reset can be done after this step. Thanks

Thanks for the replies. But these solutions seem to be for a different issue, they have the WiFi randomly disconnecting. The issue I have, is the WiFi turning off, as in the WiFi toggle is turned off, it connects fine and is stable when in range. But when I leave range the toggle changes to off. I'd a assume it's either a bug, or a battery saving feature, but regardless I don't want to have to toggle the WiFi back on everytime I come into range of my WiFi.
