When untoggling the "Skip lock screen" option in the Face Unlock settings (and playing music on YTM), I can see the media banner with my song's information, artist, next track etc. across my lock screen, but my face won't unlock my phone. When I toggle the option back on, my face unlock works fine, but I don't have the media banner across my lock screen anymore. How do I keep the media information/banner across my phone visible AND allow my face unlock to my device?

That as designed. Skip lock screen means you want your face to immediately unlock. If you want to the lock screen to show so you can use the player widget then you have to "enable" the lock screen which means to unlock you now have to swipe up. It's very different from previous screens but I use the motionsense to control the music player now. Cannot have both ways, got to pick one
Thank you for the speedy response. Check out the attached screenshot from MKBHD's latest video regarding the Android 11 Beta 1 features, though. He has the notification banners across his lock screen, but, yet, the phone is locked (you can tell by the "locked" icon at the top).

yea he disabled "skip lockscreen", that's why they show for him. disable that option again, so like it was said already, that you have to swipe up after unlock, but be able to see the notifitcations etc

In HTC Sense, whenever I activate the display, I get the normal unlock screen which allows direct access to different apps by swiping the corresponding dock icons...
This normal lockscreen is ALWAYS shown, and if I have enabled a secure lockscreen (like pattern unlock or face unlock), this secure lockscreen is shown AFTER the first "normal" lockscreen.
Is there an AOSP/AOKP/CM based mod that can do the same thing?
edit for clarification:
Use case is the following: I use face unlock, but sometimes I just want to have a quick look at the lockscreen (widgets). But with cyanogenmod, as soon as I press the power button, my face gets recognized and the phone is unlocked. It's so quick that I can't even see the dashclock widget.
So it would be perfect to have a normal "slide to unlock" lockscreen (with different slide targets for different apps), and THEN the face unlock.
I don't get it why HTC Sense seems to be the only system that has this kind of behavior properly implemented
Follow-up: Now I use Widget Locker, it does exactly what I want.
another follow-up:
Unfortunately, Widget Locker has its own problems...
I have different apps that show music or other playback controls on the lockscreen (Play Music, TuneIn Radio, Yatse), and those don't work with Widget Locker.
So this brings me back to my original question... is there really no "not-Sense-based" rom that can display the normal "slide to unlock" screen before the secure lockscreen?
Hello everyone!
Since the release of the Lollipop upgrade and the introduction of the Smart Lock feature, I've been regularly coming across with posts like these:
Smart lock doesn't work, it keeps asking for my finger print to unlock

Its not working for me, when I wake up my phone, I have to swipe up to access my pin entry screen

So I decided to create this thread in order to clarify how the lockscreen works when Smart Lock is enabled and a trusted device is connected.
Swiping from the little lock icon on the bottom of the screen, brings back your specified secure lockscreen. It is a way to secure your phone again, even if a trusted device or other set conditions for Smart Lock are met.
Swiping from anywhere else on the screen should unlock the phone without any security checks.
Check out this video I made to explain it a bit better:
Some people may think this is not an intuitive way, however, I personally find it quite useful to have the option to quickly secure my lockscreen without disconnecting a trusted device.
In any case, swiping from a starting point anywhere other than the small lock icon, will unlock the phone without any security checks.
I hope I helped.
Cheers!
After update to Android 9.0 with my P20 Pro (without factory reset). I found a problem with Magazine Unlock, it doesn't change randomized lock screen.
What should I do?
Thanks

Maybe your magazine unlock is paused. When your phone is locked try to swipe up from bottom of the display. There you will get resume/pause(||) option. Resume it. Let's us know if issue still persists.

Currently having the same problem as the OP. One moment it was working fine, and now it doesn't work at all. I have the magazine unlock setting on and ticked all the boxes and when I lock my phone it just shows the home screen wallpaper. I've checked the settings on the lock screen itself, there is a lock icon but when I press on it nothing happens. If I add my own images into the magazine unlock folder, they work fine and like the magazine unlock feature should work, but I really enjoyed seeing the random photos that would appear before. I honestly can not find a fix for this and I don't really want to factory reset my phone, so would really appreciate if someone has a work around for this.

You need to unlock your lockscreen wallpaper
Now, go to you lockscreen then swipe up from bottom
There are several settings there..
Press the locked icon
And you can change the time or another setting for your lockscreen wallpaper
So you can have your random magazine again..
Hope it helps you
I tried going through your steps DTsPro but sadly it wouldn't work. Like I said if I add my own pictures to the magazine unlock feature it works no problem and I can use the swipe up unlock/lock feature on the lock screen with those images, the moment I delete them and try to use the built in magazine unlock images, I just get a static image and I'm unable to select any of the icons on the lock screen settings however it says on wallpapers and themes that magazine unlock is selected... It is a very weird and somewhat annoying problem that I just can't seem to find a solution for, but thank you for at least trying to help
Same as me p20 I have problem as well. Magazine unlock, whatever I do it doesn't work at all. Any help plz
On lock screen swipe from bottom of screen. It will show couple of options. Don't let screen unlocked with face recognition or fingerprint. These options appears on the lock screen when you swipe from the bottom of screen on locked screen. There is a lock icon on these option, tap on it and unlock it. It will show message that screen will change everytime. Try these options with cool mind. I was not able to figure it out for weeks. But now I have and it work like charm.
simple solution as it might sound, but change your theme and keep going through the process untill it shows the pop-up msg asking you if you want to keep or discard Magazine unlock and choose to keep, Voiala it goes back again.
If I have the phone on my desk where it can't scan my face and unlock, is there any way to reach over to view and dismiss notifications? Currently if I double tap the screen it just goes straight to trying to scan my face, but it only shows a notification icon and no contents. I can pull down the notification shade and check it that way, but that's an extra couple of steps. Am I just out of luck if I want to use face unlock?

I'm seeing the same thing. Haven't found a way around it. There's a setting in face id that you can check that asks you to confirm unlock when it scans your face, but, it isn't working apparently. This is definitely one of my gripes so far.
i think i have a fix for you guys if its sitting more or less flat and you wave/hold your hand over the top it will activate the screen with out it scanning your face its part of the motion sense options i believe

It will activate the screen, but it'll only show the notification icon, not the contents.

Try swiping down on the screen. Notification should appear at the top & you can view or dismiss.

Yes, I already mentioned that in the OP. I'd prefer to skip that extra step.
I have just switched from a OnePlus 7 Pro and I am confused by this too.
Is it not possible to view notification content directly on the screen without pulling down the shade every time?
Disabling 'Skip screen lock' makes the phone behave like other androids without face lock. You can read and interact with your notifications. But it's an extra step to unlock the phone.

Good catch! I'm going to do this for a while and see whether I prefer this and having to swipe up, or just let it unlock.

Yeah, I tried it and realized I like the skip lock screen feature more. I think it's a bug and have raised it to Google via the feedback option. Hopefully they fix it.

This is definitely the better way IMO. It'll probably save battery, and I don't have to be on the home screen every time. I do already miss the one step unlock though. My 3xl, I would just grab it and hit the fingerprint scanner at the same time. This one I have to swipe now. Oh well, not sure there is any other way.
Hi guys
As soon as the phone detects the face, it brings the home screen(desktop)
Is there a setting to keep the clock and screen lock on even if the face is recognised? (Then you can manually swipe up to go the home screen).
The only way to do this is to hide all notifications and enable the content when the face is detected.
What I'd like to have is, seeing all notifications on the lock screen (with the content) being able to unlock the phone but still not land to the home screen (Staying at the screen lock)

yeah but in this case the notifications on the lock screen only appears when the face is recognised. I'd like to have them on the lock screen regardless.
Is that possible?

Why don't you just double tap/swipe the screen to turn on and see the notifications and then unlock using your face.

Yeah but the moment you look at the phone, it unlocks. Without even being able to see what notifications were on the lock screen.

Just tilt the screen to an angle where the device doesn't detect your face, that's how I do it anyway which I am fine with.

Under face recognition in security, is it not 'show notifications, swipe up to go to home screen' click to enable or disable that...
