I have a stock fully updated LG V40 on verizon. Is it currently possible to unlock the bootloader, flash twrp, and then run customs roms?
Following as well, since I don't think they'll be updating it any further

Not to sound rude but have either of you even looked at any of the development/guide threads?

Yes. I just wanted to confirm that it worked due to most of the threads not specifically stating anything about the newest official android update. Searching the forum all I found was the thread about Android 10 having arrived!

Hi guys- I've been reading that Android ver.4.3 was relased last night via OTA but if we are rooted we cant get it. is there a way to upggrade install it while still being rooted? i current have TWRP ver. 2.5.0.0.
Thanks alot for your help.
Rgrds,
Robert1c
Even if it did, which I'm pretty sure it didn't, you wouldn't be able to receive it with unlocked bootloader.

Thoroughly irrelevant. Please reread.

I think OP already realized his mistake, he was just telling us which article he was referring to.
Man, if Sprint used the exact same hardware as the GSM Ones, I would be soooo happy.
Do ya think we're any closer to that? No that I'm going to stay with Sprint or anything hehe.
You can run android 4.3 by flashing CM 10.2. Been running it for a few days. Works great.

Can anyone tell me what exactly Unified Development thread is? Can the Roms be flashed from that thread on the AT&T S5?:fingers-crossed:

Nope...sorry...right now our bootloader is locked preventing any customs.
Was kind of expecting that, I believe that the S4 still never had the boot loader unlocked. So, does not look promising for the S5.

No, ZV7 is not out yet. But it is in development as indicated by the new RDF.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/LG/LS991-SPRINT/LS991ZV7.rdf
Now I checked a few days ago and this wasn't here. It's also noteworthy that with the H815 getting 6.0 this might be what's coming our way. We saw something similar when ZV8 came out for the G3, it was a different version on the RDF. I'll try and poke the bear, see what I can find out.
In the meantime let the speculation begin!
I wouldn't hold my breath for M --YET-- it's way to soon. Besides inside the rdf file it says 5.1. Probably just additional security updates, and perhaps some additional enhancements like we had with ZV5 & ZV6. I do like your speculation though. ?

With M out already for the global version and it supposedly out in short order afterwards for US... Well, stranger thing have happened.
I just hope the exploits we use to DD the custom ROMs doesn't get patched with 5.1 update, could be a prep for M complete with security fixes. If so I may pass on the update and or M. Just my opinion only time will tell....
OK. G3 is now showing an update ALSO in the works. And what two devices are supposed to get M first for LG?
If that's not M it's a fix that affects them both... Stagefright's already patched so not sure what other big ones are out there.

I probably will too. If you guys haven't heard M will need you to flash a custom boot.img/kernel for root, which I imagine would almost definitely throw a secure boot error for us.

I wonder how easy it will be to root M. If I'm unable to root, I'll be sticking with L.

I second that. But, you know, we will always have root. I can't think of a single device that cannot be rooted... even my wifes cricket phone can be rooted and there isn't any forum or development for it.

That might be true. But there are plenty of devices that have never been rooted.
And if you root some new devices on Verizon or AT&T they will boot you off the network.

Yeah the At&t Note 4 does not have root which was one of the reasons I left that device.

Man, that's why I roll with Sprint. They ain't on that kind of bullshnat.
So WTF? Is this what we have to deal with from now on. Why can't I go back to Lolipop if it came with it, if I want? Now I am stuck on 1 and only version of an OS with no way back. Is everyone going this direction, or who are the companies to look at, because I think my Note 4 will be my last in a long line of Samsung products. 1

Simply search using "Downgrade" in the title, in the first two forums, in this (T-Mo Gal. Note 4) forum.
Note. You did not say what phone you have. n910t, n910t3......etc.
Yes. It can be done easily (N910T). I went all the way back to KitKat, from EPG2.
BigMain: I didn't get a message from you.

910T3, since upgrading to 6.0.1, the bootloader is locked and no way to install any version that came prior anymore.

N910T, Yes. N910T3, No
You can still install DOK2 on T3, but Wifi, Wifi Calling and NFC will not work

Do you have unlocked bootloader and TWRP for your Snapdragon Note 8? Exynos does.
By the way, this question will probably be moved to another section.

Ignorant much?
Just read in the forums and you'll realize why.
exyeos
Want custom rom options, don't buy a Snapdragon. Nothing new, been this way for the past few generation Samsung phones.
BTW Q&A threads aren't allowed in this section.
