Notification light? - Redmi Note 9 Questions & Answers

I read somewhere that the redmi note 9 had a notification light but I can't find one anywhere
Am I missing something or does it not have one?

It does not have one. That said it does have a screen effect on the sides, very similar to samsung's when a new notification arrives.

I haven't noticed that. Is it just on the stock launcher? (I use CPL)

[Q] Nexus one trackball

I bought a nexus one on ebay and I noticed that the trackball is black. Does this mean that someone opened it up (voiding the warranty) or that some N1s from google came with a black trackball as well as the white one?
I don't even remember what my trackball looked like a year ago, but it's nearly black now. It still flashes all the right colors though.

There's a few threads around on how to clean your dirty trackball
Picture
Here is a picture of what it look like (attached). I'm not sure if this is dirty or if someone opened it up and replaced it. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Hey, the black one looks even better than the original trackball
You can simple check if someone opened your N1. Just remove the battery cover and take a closer look at the upper left screw. There should be a "Void" - seal on top of the screw...

I have 2 Nexus: one trackball is dark and the other is white... even the cases are different: brown vs gray.. so I think there are 2 different type, because one is from Google and another one is from SFR France. For me it looks good the dark one but the light of white is better... And if you say it is dirty then how is so uniform?!

Actually, i found this trackball at globaldirectparts (http://www.globaldirectparts.com/OEM-Google-Nexus-One-Trackball-p/htc736500.htm) and they confirmed that it is the black/grey one. The bad news: I'm still not 100% convinced that THIS is really the black one, second: you have to buy five

That doesn't look nearly as dark and uniform black as the one posted earlier. I'd be cautious also...
Mine it's not black... more like dark brown... It matches with the back side of case.
holy crap that is a dark trackball. surely it must be done on purpose, not just dirty...

The trackball on mine is as bad as that, and I can assure you it was white when I bought it I think it's caused by the blue dye rubbing off from my jeans pocket. I wouldn't mind except that it's so bad now that I can hardly see the notification lights except at nighttime, and I find that really annoying.
I've tried just about everything to clean it short of taking the phone apart (which looks tricky...). Pure IPA, citrus cleaner, bleach, and various ways of rubbing/rolling it. Nothing has made any real difference unfortunately, but at least none of those have done any harm either.
If anyone has any better ideas I'd be interested in hearing them.

Notifications on Edge Screen

Hey guys I am moving from a Note Edge (the orginal curved phone, aka Note 4 Edge). One functionality I really liked with the edge screen on that device was that all notifications showed up on the edge screen. This way you could disable the annoyinhg headsup display that blocks part of the screen when youre using your phone
My questions is, does the edge screen on this phone do that? If not, are there any mods out for that.
Going for the T Mobile version

No they do not. I wish they did I don't know why they got rid of that. I have not seen any mods like that. Especially since the SD does not have root yet.

That really grinds my gears lol. ARRGHGHH. I got so used to relying on the edge so i don't have to break what I'm doing or swipe.
Samsung makes decisions that boggles the mind. I'm so sad. The Edge had the best functionality i've ever used
Here"s something that's close. You can choose which app notifications you want to show up. But you still need to rely on the notification panel for the alert. The notifications will only show up in the edge panel, it won't alert you from the edge panel.

Yes, I think I had these useful items on the S6 edge also. Favourite was the always on clock on the edge display and notifications as well as some some scrolling news feeds.
I could be wrong but perhaps that was possible due to the more aggressive curved edges that the Note 8 doesn't possess? So far the curved edges on the Note 8 has for me been useless, if anything a hindrance.

Yeah the masses (as is always the case) complained about the aggressive curve. Instead of samsung sticking with it and forcing people to get used to it (whichis what apple does) they amde the curve completely almost useless. Its completely aesthetic now.
I wouldnt need to move up from my Note Edge except for all the new 7.0 touchwiz additions

I agree totally. The edge screen is nothing but useless now, and a hindrance due to screen protectors also.

What is these Gray Arranged lines in Note 8's Display?

Hi, please see attached picture.
In white screens you can see Light gray lines that Arranged all over Display with regular distance from each other.
What is these Lines?!
I have never noticed something like that before in my device, it is not normal, unless you are using some pixel off app
I'm thinking eye can't see that. Only under microscope

Seems like pixels magnified.... Its a normal occurence to see when you take a photo of any light colored screen, but tough to see with naked eye, But if your eyes are seeing them I m thinking your resokution is set to high or your display is starting to go wonky...
I can't see it in the normal pic so I'm guessing it's just how the OLED appears when your super close up like that
OP, can you see those lines with your eyes, or does it only show up in zoomed photos?

I can see these lines.
I saw it in 3 note 8. Just increase screen brighness to 100% and go to a white screen, so you can see too, But very pale and rare.
I am very Curious to know what is these lines?!

I just put my brightness to max and looked very closely at a white screen, but don't see anything like that on mine. If you can see it with your eye that doesn't seem right. I would probably contact Samsung or the seller.

Is your display resolution actually set to wqhd? Also what is your dpi set to? Font size? Did you just change the display resolution and didn't reboot as yet? Is your device rooted?

Dead pixel all around display and in 3 tested note8?
The picture i attached in post #1 is from a youtube video, so 4 note 8 was tested and these lines existed.

Huh? How exactly can I be more precise with something like this? lol...I simply tested the issue you described and am saying I couldn't reproduce it (brightness at 100%+white screen=no weird grey lines for me...just a white screen!). If stock firmware or a reset doesn't solve it for you then I would probably return to seller or claim warranty. If you tried multiple ones then it may be a bad batch. This forum would be filled with posts if this affected every Note 8.
ok ok if not dead pixels could if be screen burn from lets say the black lines from drawing with the s,pen? (iam just taking guesses)
This problem exist in all note 8s and maybe all S8 s
These lines is very very very pale. Just see with more precision.
I just tried it on mine sm-n950f and I see no grey lines at all. Full brightness with white background picture, perfect display top to bottom.

Again, not true. A few of us already tested and our displays are fine. Hope you get it sorted out. Worst case maybe a bad batch.

Why is the camera cutout so large?

If you look at this disassembly video you can see that the actual hole is pretty small but the dead space around the cutout is pretty large. Did samsung maybe turn off more pixels than necessary around the cutout?

It's for the notification light.. it encircles the cut out when you have a notification

From what I've seen the light animation is on the outside of the cutout. And even if it was inside it makes no sense to enlarge the hole, that animation is using pixels its not an actual led light.

Then my 2nd guess would be space to prevent light bleed from the screen affecting photos.

Yeah. It's the internet way of doing things.
In all seriousness, I wish people wouldn't do it. It makes finding information on the internet so much more difficult.
They need something to do with the S11 next year

Question Some vertical lines on the screen which are hardly noticeable

I had bought this device and as soon as i opened an app with a complete white ui, i noticed some one or two vertical lines(not major enough to be called a display issue, but annoying to the eye)
The lines look like a little more brighter than the rest of screen area and hence noticable. I thought its a problem with my unit and replaced the device. The second unit which I received also has the same problem.
Is this really present on other units as well or there's some protective layer on the screen which could make me see those vertical lines?

Hey, i also notice those lines. 2 vertical lines towards the right side. My device is white. Not any major issue, as everything else seems fine and have to concentrate to even notice lines
My first device had some vertical lines visible on white backgrounds but I returned it. My second device does not have this, at least not so much that I have noticed it yet.
Lucky that you don't face the issue on the replaced unit
