Ive been lurking on this forum for a while but ive finally hit a wall I cant find an answer to
I successfully rooted my tablet using magisk and TWRP about 4 months ago, everything was going great. about 2 months ago my tablet booted up into TWRP and would not get out, no matter what I tried. eventually I fixed it by wiping everything and reflashing stock ROM from ODIN and going through the root process again, not a big deal. cut to 2 days ago, my tablet restarts and boots into TWRP again and wont boot into system, basically seemed like the same as before, until I plugged it into my computer
For some reason, my tablet no longer connects to ODIN or my laptop at all. Ive used the same cable and different device and same usb port and it worked just fine, ODIN picked up the connection and everything. Ive updated and unistalled and reinstalled drivers for all the USB ports and I dont think that is the issue. I even deleted and reinstalled ODIN but still nothing.
I thought maybe there was some setting on the tablet that might be preventing a connection to ODIN, so I wiped the rooted ROM off the tablet (im new to this, dont know if this was a bad idea) and tried again but got nothing. now with a soft bricked tablet I got a micro SD card, put a TWRP flashable version of the ROM onto it and plugged that into the tablet and flashed this new ROM onto the tablet, and that worked from what I can tell (system folder went from like 8mb to 17000 or something) but I still cannot get the tablet to boot into system.
I can access download mode (there appears to be two versions, one where it just says downloading and another where a bunch of text appears on the top left, some of it mentioning ODIN) and all the functions of TWRP, but ODIN does not connect and I cant get it to boot into the system.
TWRP version 3.1.0.1_ashyx
link to the post where I got the stock lite version of the ROM currently flashed to my tablet:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/development/rom-nougat-stock-lite-v1-t3746583
any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry for the wall of text.
Wish I had something useful to add. I'm having the same issue. TWRP 3.4.0.0 and LineageOS. I've had this issue forever. I flash a clean ROM, it works for a week or two, then I come back to it and all I get is recovery.
I can access Odin however.
Usually it takes wiping and installing a ROM to get the device working again, in fact it issue takes several rounds of that. But of course, in all of that I've lost my setup and some files.
Is there an actual solution to this?
On my T810 I'm having TWRP 3.3.1-0 with this ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v6-7-t3979381
plus Magisk and Pico Gapps.
Of course it's only Pie and not Q, but working well.
3.4.4-0 not tested yet.
Once had an issue with black screen, but at that time I was using case with a screen cover.
Since that I've switched to TPU case only covering the back.
No more issues after that, perhaps it was a problem with FlipFlap like on other devices.

Hi guys,
I think I finally managed to brick my phone. Everything was working perfectly fine, until today when decided to try GB's Steam kernel.
So a little background first, to make things quicker:
- I was able to open download and recovery mode before, even after doing a odin3 one click restore twice.
- I've tried a Cognition and moved to DarkyYtt3r. Went from 7.0.1 to 7.5 to 7.8 to 8.0.1, no issues.
- Changed the kernel and modem several times. The last one I tried was glitterball's uc/ov stable (no charging death).
- Current set up before this mess:
-- ROM: DarkyYtter v8.0.1 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890429
-- Kernel: gb-reorient-fixed-ocuv-f-cwm.zip > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887315
-- Modem: TLJL3 I think.
Everything working beautifully.
Today I saw this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903238 ... gb's steam kernel. since no one was having major issues, I made a backup of my current rom using CWNand decided to install the kernel using SGS Kernel flasher, according to instructions.
Cool. I've flashed kernels before a few times. No big deal. And I figured, I'm able to get into Recovery or worst case scenario into download mode. I flashed the kernel, reboot, got into Steam's recovery. Looked around. Activated a couple of tweaks although I don't remember which ones.
Rebooted and this is where the issues began. I got the "intro" window you get with i9000 roms (keyboard intro, syncing, etc). A lot of apps were force closing, including facebook, twitter, rom manager, ADW Launcher, etc.
Ok, so I rebooted to Steam recovery and deleted the cache. Went back and the same problem. At least I was able to boot the system.
I said, oh well, let's go back to our backup. Booted Steam's recovery, and tried to recover from the last backup.
It worked for one boot. Not sure what I did, I don't remember, but after trying to boot again, the phone displays the AT&T screen, the GT-I900 screen and then the Galaxy S screen. I then feel the force close vibration, and the screen goes black. I can touch the softkeys and they blink, but I feel the FC vibration every 10 or 15 seconds.
Somewhere along the line something bad happened.... but here is what's bothering me. I cannot get back into download or recovery mode anymore. Been there all day trying to make it work with no luck at all.
So, more importantly, somewhere along the line, between rom flashes, or something, I lost the ability to get into recovery or download mode. I've heard that I900 roms have different button combos, but nothing works
I'll buy a few resistor packs tomorrow, and some cables just in case. I'm afraid that I won't be able to boot into download mode this way either.
also, adb is not detecting the phone. tried both windows and linux. if I could only get it even for one second so I can send a adb reboot download... but no
Do you guys have any ideas?
Thanks!

Did you ever get this problem fixed? The reason I ask is because I'm in this same situation.
We seem to be having the same problem also... Nothing has worked for me so far

Hello everyone,
I just hardbricked my SGS+ and now I'm a bit curious how this could happen.
This is what I did:
I used to run CM9 RC5 from arco68 along with the Kernel for ICS from Christopher83 and CWM 6.0.1.2.
Because my phone always lost the wifi-connection and also had some freezes I decided to try out CM10 Beta 3 from ivendor.
I backuped my phone, downloaded the zips and even verified the MD5sums. Next I flashed CWM 6.0.1.9 as recommended in the thread from ivendor.
After exporting the nandroid backup and other stuff like photos to my computer I wiped everything as mentioned in the thread, flashed the two zips and rebooted. Everything went fine and I was almost ready with setting up my phone again when I got my first softreboot.
Suddenly it showed the CM-bootlogo and after maybe 10 seconds I was back on my homescreen. I got another two or three softreboots until I decided to flash the Kernel 3.x from CastagnaIT.
I rebooted into recovery, wiped cache and dalvik cache, flashed the zip and rebooted.
Now I wanted to reboot into recovery again to fix permissions but instead I got a softreboot and my phone stuck at the CM10 bootlogo.
I waited for around 5 minutes and then I just turned the phone off and booted into the recovery mode.
Because I wanted a clean install without any problems like softreboots I decided to wipe my phone again (data, cache, system) and just reflash the zip for CM10. And at this point everything went wrong.
I flashed CM10 but when I tried to flash gapps my phone just turned off. And no, the battery was not empty. In fact the battery was at around 50-60% and my phone was also connected to my computer.
I tried to turn on my phone but now it stuck at the Samsung bootlogo.
The next thing I did was probably a horrible mistake. I tried to un-brick my phone but I did not realize that I could boot into download mode without problems so I guess my phone wasn't softbricked at all.
Well, after that I still stuck at the Samsung bootlogo and couldn't enter recovery mode. I got into download mode somehow and maybe this was my second mistake. I tried to flash the "i9001Reset.zip" via Odin. Everything went fine but when Odin said "Close serial port and wait until rebooting" my phone was completely dead. I think it was while I tried to flash the reset-file when I got a message like "MBR: read failed". So somehow I managed to destroy my master boot record.
Now I can't turn on my phone or enter download nor recovery mode. I already removed the battery for about 45 minutes but this didn't work either.
My phone is dead but at least I saved the important data and maybe I'll get a new one through warranty. Or I just buy a Nexus 4.
My questions are:
What did I do wrong especially when I tried to save my phone?
How can I prevent such things from happening?
And at which point I should have got help here in the forum or elsewhere?
I would really appreciate some tips for the future because I already flashed and used a lot of different ROMs but this is the first time something really went wrong.
Thanks for reading and thanks for your help in advance.
(Please excuse my non-perfect englisch.)
Greetings,
Mangoniter
Droid 4 running Stock Jb 4.1.2, Safestrap 3.11, Liquid smooth 2.9, CM (last stable)
Everything working fine for a number of months, installed Liquid smooth via -> delete romslot 3, create romslot 3, install Liquid 2.8.
It ran for a number of days no problems. Restarted fine, all features worked great, even the annoying random restart from 2.4 went away.
6 - 10 days in, im surfin' the news sites at work, put it down, screen goes black, i pick it up. Hit the power button cause i realize its off and it just boot loops... so bad i had to vol-/+ pwr, go to flash mode and THEN turn it off b/c it just kept trying to restart, hang on logo.
I got home and decided to AP flash the latest:
9.8.2O-72_VZW-18-2
Blur_Version.98.72.182.XT894.Verizon.en.US for the maserati.
Boot looped a few times, i was able to get it to go into recovery mode, after that it loaded up the stock JB system. First boot it crashed and restarted, second boot it loaded but only the keyboard worked, not the touch screen. Went to the in OS option of factory reset mode + delete storage.
Rebooted, worked. Checked it a few boots, everything is fine. I use Druid 4 Utility Xt894 JB version and apply the root. Works great. Install safestrap, Create new partition, install liquid smooth 2.9. Works for an afternoon... at work today the touch screen stops responding, i restart it a few times. I try to enter recovery mode. Now im in boot loop again...
I've tried re flashing it again, a few times. I tried even going down to the previous release of JB for the phone. STILL 4.1.2!!!! But nothing.... it just boot loops... what did i do wrong? It was running great. No tweaks or anything done to it prior to it having its melt down.
Help please.. ive provided as much information as possible and though i only joined XDA now to post for help, i have read it for a long time as my main source for my phone and have donated to both CM and Liquidsmooth teams previously..
help!!!
I can't see where you are doing anything wrong. You have obviously done your research and have a good idea of what you are doing. I see, after you fastbooted, you went back to Liquid. I think I would try running CM10.1 or even stock for a few days and see if you have the issue there as well. If you do than it sounds to me like it might be a hardware issue. If not, maybe try re-downloading Liquid. Perhaps your zip got corrupted somehow.
I would love too. In fact i would be willing to run it on the stock crappy 4.1.2 if i could get it out of boot loop this time...
It just keeps boot looping on the logo. AP Fashboot flash and BP flash work but recovery and normal boot/reboot mode just goes into M logo boot loop.
I've re downloaded the 4.1.2 jb SBFs from 2 different sources to ensure its not a corrupt file, tried 18_1 and 18_2 software versions...
Is there a way to use the abd shell to get into the filesystem and check whats going on? Is the SBF the last call? or is there another route to see whats going on or just flash EVERYTHING? Like completely back to stock?
I can find my way around a PC file system but im not familiar with linux. Please help me understand, Is it like having CMOS and BIOS settings or equivalent to damaged CMOS firmware? What am i not replacing/reverting by SBF and HOW can i replace/revert BEYOND the basic sbf...
If ya point me in a direction or to someone who can help me out i can do all the foot work just point me in the right direction?
Is this applicable? I found a site talking about using CWM in a ADB shell file push to possibly get access to more features?
The article also goes into reading the busybox / ADB command screen? (sorry for not proper jargin) and see what its doing during the boot loop before it restarts?
Id add the link but i need more posts....
Update: Flashed 18_2 again with a "factory cable" i made, let it boot loop a series of times before it started up into the stock system again.
At first, again the touch screen wouldn't work, random lockups and restarts, etc. Since i just got it into the main system again and i had to leave for the weekend for a trip(no wifi or network), i couldn't mess with it all weekend but i left it on the whole time and kept checking its functionality... gradually its come back to full function. Touch screen works and is accurate, no more lockups, no more restarting, even stopped boot looping when i restart and enter recovery..
Im not sure and i couldn't find any forum converstations or write ups to support to idea but i think after a major crash and you flash new or reflash your SBF, it seems the phone needs time to recalibrate and index? Not sure, but just an FYI. Gonna try loading SS and liquid again.
Hiya!
Been on the forums for years modding my Nexus One and would like to thank everyone for their humongous contribution! 3 years of constant upgrading and improving of what turned out to be the best phone ever!
Now, I've come to an end where my self-confidence took over caution and preparation and i think i've made a boo-boo.
Long story short, i have a unlocked Nexus One that has been running a CM10 ROM with Blackrose for a good 6 months. Most of the functions were working fine, except for a few glitches, but last night i decided to go back to the roots, and install a stock Gingerbread ROM. I found a unrooted GB ROM, and went straight on to renaming it to PASSIMG, throwing it on card and rebooting. Now that's where the funny things started:
First, all goes well, click Volume Up, get it started, and than a screen with all OKs except for [7] BOOTLOADER - Fail-PU and a message saying 'Only Blackrose can be flashed'
Next, I get 7 OKs, except for BOOTLOADER, and the following: Partition update fail! Update fail! Do you want to reboot? Y/N
Figuring i forgot to uninstall Blackrose and need to do so, i let it restart, it comes up with a clean un-rooted GB ROM, and here's where my troubles start.
1. USB Connection: Plug it in, laptop doesn't recognize it at all. Classifies it as 'Unknown Device' and that's it. Tried fresh drivers, Universal Naked Drivers, SDK drivers, ASUS tablet drivers, nothing. Tried 3 cables, the HTC one, a Blackberry one and a Samsung one. Nothing. Uninstalled all USB hubs/devices, restarted the laptop multiple times. Debugging ON/OFF, no difference. I'm at a loss here, no clue what else to try!
2. Fine, i thought, let's flash a rooted rom! PASSIMG on the card, phone finds it, gets to the line 'Parsing... Passimg.zip' and goes back to the neutral screen. Tried it multiple times, different ROMs, nothing.
3. At this point, figured maybe an earlier ROM will cause an OTA update and fix things up. FROYO PASSIMG on the card, flashed 'succesfully', just like in #1, reboot to clean un-rooted FROYO. Checked USB connection, same again. OTA Update - constantly failed.
Been reading through Wikis and Q&A's here all day today, everything seems to be so easy to fix as long as you get a live ADB connection, and i know i could fix it, but i just can't get the laptop to recognize the bloody phone! Do not have access to another computer just now, so can't check whether it's just my Vaio.
So now, the questions:
1. Any other ideas on the USB issue? The phone does not display the usual 'choose your option/mass storage...' when connected, and nowhere in the menu is there an option for that.
2. When booting into recovery, i get the green droid with the white triangle and the !, and then get into the 3e recovery that has an 'update.zip' option. can i install a custom recovery without the phone being rooted? just of the sdcard? is there an update.zip that can re-stock my HBOOT?
any other ideas will be greatly appreciated, as of right now i am stuck with a FROYO handset that is perfectly capable of running JB, and it's really frustrating!
thanks in advance for all your help, cheers!
Hi.
Since yesterday my galaxy s3 lte i9305 does not boot anymore, the blue cyanogenmod logo keeps turning for hours. I can however still go to the recovery (which was a few month old cwm). I completely wiped the phone (both caches, data, internal sd, boot, firmware etc ... all but the modem) and reinstalled the newest cwm and the newest nightly build three times now using heimdall and the external sd (connected my external micro sd to my computer sd card reader via adapter and put the zip on it). Just now I installed twrp-2.8.5.0-i9305 as a new recovery and installed everything again, but everytime - and also now - despite the seemingly successful installation, the phone is stuck at the cyanogen bootlogo.
Any ideas on how to get my phone running again?
Cheers

I would try a factory reset from recovery and see if that helps. You did check the md5 for your downloads right?
Otherwise I would install the stock rom, then try again, this time(making sure you have a compatible recovery) just wipe caches, data, and format system, and then install CM

I did do the factory reset. I just wiped the areas separately as well. Anyway, I took your advice and installed the latest stock rom. Now I got the Samsung logo slightly flashing blue for hours instead of the cyanogenmod logo. Did not do anything else.
I suspect that its a battery issue in some way. The last weeks the phone lost its charge very quickly very often (not constantly though). Yesterday, the phone was in my pocket and then went off. It went into the constantly trying to restart despite the lack of batteries state until I removed the battery. Maybe that gives any clue?

Try booting into stock recovery, then factory reset from there. Last time I went back to stock I had a bootloop until I did this, then it booted properly. If that doesn't work, maybe try new battery.
Have you tried booting up whilst plugged in to a usb charger?

Thanks for your helpful input.
I did what you said, even tried it twice now. Phone is still booting after 20 minutes now. I also tried booting up while charging the phone, yes. That was my standard procedure actually, but nothing changes when I unplug it. I don't have a different battery and I am wary of buying one just for the sake of trying. Tried that when my galaxy s 1 broke down and that didn't save the phone. At this point I am contemplating if the phone (s3) is broken now or not. It still reliably boots to the recovery, but it doesn't do much else. How are the chances?
Or has anyone any idea on how to proceed?

Try to boot into recovery. Do a factory reset then boot straight into download mode and flash stock rom. You might have to redownload the firmware it could be corrupted.. If that doesn't work then you might have to send it in. It might cost about to fix. Or go to your local phone repair shop and see if they could fix it for cheaper
