Google contacts not syncing and contacts not showing up - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Im on chinese K20 Pro
Updated to Miui 12 a few days ago.
Since the miui 12 update, whatsapp loses contacts. And i had to go to "new chat" and "refresh" in order to have it show contact names and not just their numers.
In order to fix that, i fiddled with some settings and broken something. Contacts are not showing up and google contacts are not syncing.
In "settings" "accounts and sync" i have "basic google services" which is checked and "google" which has a message "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." And i have an exclamation mark at contacts, where it says last synced june 29. If i press "sync now", contacts still dont sync.
In "phone", all recents dont have contact names. Same in messages app and whatsapp.
In "phone", "contacts" shows 0 contacts, "All contacts" shows "google 0 people".
Permissions
contacts, google account manager and google contacts sync are set to autostart and to modify and delete contacts.
Any help is welcomed. Please dont suggest factory reset.

Have you tried removing your Google account and re-adding it?
Sent from my Mi 9T Pro using Tapatalk

Maybe you are up to something. I removed my account, basic google services left checked, and when i sign in i get the message> "Couldnt sing in. There was a problem communicating with google servers. Try again later."
I deleted data of google framework, play store, play services and managed to add my account. Still have the same message about sync problems. Contacts has exclamation mark and last sync date has changed to today, but it still dont have the contacts.

Not sure what you messed around with in regards to contacts but it's broken play services, only thing I can think is to update play services, you can get it on apk mirror and see if that makes a difference
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/
I have a Chinese k20 pro my version is 20.21.17 upto you if you try that version or a newer version

I have downloaded google play services 20.21.75 from apkmirror. I tried to install it but it says app not installed.

Check what version you have, go to settings, apps, top right hand side click 3 dots and select show all apps, search for google play services, 1st clear cache and data, if that doesn't work, uninstall play services and then install the one you downloaded or use the version you had already installed

Ok. So i deleted data from play services and managed to install the version i downloaded.
Syncing still has problems and contacts still has exclamation mark. My contacts still arent showing up.

What exactly did you change originally? Only thing I can think of is that Google contacts app settings may not be pointing to your Gmail account, go to your Google contacts app, top right hand corner click on the icon next to 3 dots and make sure it is signed in with your Gmail account

Im confused which contacts app? I have "contacts" and dialer and contacts. In "contacts" contacts are shown, in dialer and contacts they arent.

I was changing permissions to phone and contacts for whatsapp and then for google.
In "contacts" app i can see the image from my google account in the top. i can search there for my contacts, but down it says no contacts. when i swipe down i get this message> https://imgur.com/a/gBQyrz2

Hmm not sure what's going on with your keyboard tbh, I've never seen that behaviour before..
Within the contacts app, click on top left hand icon and see if it gives you contacts and suggestions, it should give you the number of contacts, tap on that if it gives the correct amount, of it doesn't in the same place click on settings, and then contact sync settings and select your Gmail account, it should give you 2 bits, click in manage settings for automatically sync Google contacts and make sure sync is enabled

So i uploaded 2 screenshots. One from contacts and one from dialer and contacts.

In the 1st pic in Google contacts, where is your Google account? the account connected is your mi account, and your other account is a yahoo one, go to add account from the 1st screenshot and add your Gmail account, I'm assuming your contacts are syncing with that right?

[Q] Logging out of Play Store

Hi,
I was doing a favour for someone who asked me to root their Kindle and install the Play Store.
I did this and I tested it with my own gmail account and everything is working perfect. However, now I want to give them back their tablet, but I can't see where I can remove my account/logout from the Play Store. Obviously, giving them back the tablet with my account logged in is out of the question.
I tried going into Applications and clearing the app's data. I also tried wiping the data in Titanium Backup. Neither worked.
Can anyone help me here?
Thanks.
Do you have 2-Step Verification enabled in your Gmail account? You could try revoking access to the device from your account management page I think.
No, I don't have 2 step verification.
Would it be worth my time to enable it just so this persons Play Store won't log me in? Surely there must be a way I can remove the Play Store, reinstall it, and let them log in?
When I was installing it initially, the steps told me to log in, and then continue with further steps where it upgrades the Play Store to the latest version and does some other stuff. If I could delay those steps, or put them into a shell script to be run from the terminal once this person logged in, then I suppose that would be good too.
Thanks.
Had this problem on a cheap tablet that I got play store on for a friend, add another account (theirs) then you can remove yours

Hi,
Thanks but that doesnt work either. The problem is that the actual "Accounts and Sync" menu isnt in the settings. The only indication I have of my account is in the Play Store app, when you go into Menu and Accounts. Its related to the locked down version of the Kindle OS I think.
It looks like I might have to wipe the whole tablet and put on a custom ROM.
Actually. I think I figured out a way of doing this.
I had my gmail account setup to use the Play Store, and had Gmail synced apparently. Then I added a second account but I hadnt opened the Gmail app yet. When I did, it asked me to setup sync for my second account since it was the first time I'd opened Gmail since I added the 2nd one. This gives a link to the default Android "Accounts & Sync" menu, in the form of a button at the bottom of the app.
I was able to go in there and delete my 2 accounts. So it seems we can get into the Accounts menu through a back door in Gmail!
PS, I tried it again to add the 2 accounts and make sure I could reproduce it, but it just went to my Gmail inbox and showed me my emails for my first account. Then I pressed the drop down menu up the top left of the app and it showed my 2 inboxes. I clicked the 2nd one and it then gave me the sync menu buttons again and I could reproduce it, ie delete both my accounts.
Now if only I could get the menu/nav bar to stay on when I don't unlock it straight away after a reboot, then I'd be done!
How did you you added a second account?
Hi, I'm exactly in this same situation.

Did you try the Google account from the settings menu. Tap on Google account then account name then remove. Then add new account.

Possible fix
When I downloaded Google Play onto my fire 10 HD I downloaded 4 apk (Google services framework, Google play services, Google account manager and Google play store)
Once I'd done that I mistakenly logged into Play on the wrong account.
When I went back to the home screen there was a 'Google setting' app icon there.
I tapped that icon and went to 'Google Account - info, security & personalisation', from there if you tap the small arrow at the end of the email address it gives you the option to use another account.
I added the other account and am now able to switch between email accounts.
Hope that helps.

This is quite easy and a two-minute task:
Open Plyastore on your PC/Laptop
Sign in to the play store using the same Gmail ID you want to remove from any device.
Once signed in Navigate to the setting by clicking on the Gear icon on the upper right corner of the screen.
Here you will find all the devices connected to your account.
Simply click and remove the device.
This will help you to remove the device or logout of the play store remotely.
This is the easiest and most effective way.
As @eoinzy & @Chotkach mentioned (Thank you)
1. Install Gmail app (Don't question it. Just do it)
Go to setting.
Manage account and here you can easily remove Play Store information.

[Solved]Duplicated contact

Hi, I've just patched my nexus 6 with 1 March patch.
But honestly I'm not sure if it's from patch or not.
Some of my contacts are doubled, some are tripled, and some have no duplicates.
I checked via web based google contact, and it has no duplicate, just normal.
My other logged account have no contacts at all (even though the contact sync is checked)
I also download contact optimizer app, it gives me no duplicate, and shows normal list.
I go to contacts and try the contact to display, my second account shows only a handful email address (which is true and normal) but my main account shows those multiple contacts
I tried to delete one of the duplicate and end up losing all of the contact. umm..sorry for bad english...i mean ...
i got A, A', and A". deleting A end up losing A' and A"... so i need to re-add the contact from scratch...
the duplicate contain is exactly the same
again, sorry for bad english.
and Thanks.
Assuming you are using the stock contacts app, tap the 3 dot menu, and click "Contacts to display" - is only your primary google account (where your accounts are stored) selected?

Duplicate contacts on phone app

Hi all,
I just bought the new Xiaomi mi a2, Oreo 8.1.0 with the June's security patch.
And i have duplicate contact on the phone app.
Anyone figured out how to get rid of dupe contacts on the phone app? On the contacts app, they show up fine. But, on the phone app, I sometimes show three listings for the same person - due to whatsapp and duo being added for the same contact.
When i uninstalling the Whatsapp app all the the dupe are gone, but when i reinstall it they are coming back in.
I tried to sync Whatsapp off on Accounts settings, but that didn't help me either, it removed all the dupe, but after i deleted a contact all the dupe came back (this is weird), and when i'm comparing to my friend's settings, he didn't turn off the sync of Whatsapp but his phone app knows how to deal with the contacts.
Please advise,
Thanks.
It´s an android bug. I reported it on android bugtracker last year, marked as future release............but yeah........it´s google.

Just install Google phone app from playstore. It will detect contacts and ask your permission to delete.
There is no way to uninstall the Phone app,
I contacted Xiaomi support,
And this is thier weird answer

Same here in google phone App. But no problem in google contact app.
No solution yet ?
Turn off contacts sync from Whatsapp account in user and accounts in the settings.
You can delete the whole account and add it again and turn off the syncing
Solution that worked for me. Hope it does for you.
So I had this problem too, I bought the phone just last Monday. I found a solution googling it in other language which suggested the format of the phone numbers saved in your google contacts (or any contact manager you may use), as far as it not the same as whatsapp, the contacts won't merge.
I migrated from an Honor device to Mi A2 and as I exported (yes, exported) my contacts from Google and opened the file in Excel, I noticed there were some special characters between some numbers that were not visible on the phone app. Maybe your previous device or your contact manager does it too. So I basically exported my contacts, deleted every special character between numbers, deleted spaces, deleted all contacts from my google account and imported contacts again from the edited file. I thought that would solve the problem but it didn't. I then edited one of the contacts again to add the country code that was missing for this particular contact (+1 for US) and Google automatically added spaces in certain manner depending if it was a cellphone or a home number (depending of the count of digits that vary in my country), I saved the contact and that specific google contact merged with the whatsapp contact.
So I figured, if I let google apply the spaces (or even special characters for US phone numbers "-") as I delete one digit and type it again (assuming the phone number had no spaces and had already the country code) and save it, the contacts will merge. I did not find a way to do it in bulk, so I had to edit one by one and let google do the formatting for each one. That did the trick for me, no more duplicate contacts.
This worked for new contacts also. Even though when I added a new contact, and it appeared duplicated, because I let google do the formating, after some time it eventually merged.
If you find a way to do it in bulk it would help others save maybe around two hours of editing your contacts. I hope my solution works also for you.
Best regards,
Your savior.
I solved the issue by updating the phone app. If you don't find update in Playstore, go to Apps and uninstall updates of the Phone app (as you can't uninstall the phone app, just uninstall the updates). Once done, you'll find update for Phone app in Playstore. Just update and duplicate contacts issue gets resolved.
I cant delete update the phone dialer app, and cant find any update in playstore...
This phone dialer apps is weird shows duplicate between whatsapp and default contact..

I have the same problem as well.Unfortunately installing and reinstalling the phone app didn't work for me. The contacts in the Contacts app are showing ok, but not in the phone app.
Problem solved
Use this apps
Twitch contact formatter
Basically this change a format number of contact into international standard
So any application messaging will recognize and merge the contacts ( i just tested with whatsapp)
1 contact will be have some number in one formated
Ex: mia (if merged correctly)
Xxxxx for native call
Xxxxx for wa
Xxxxx for any messaging
So there is no duplicate number again

I found a solution to this problem. Basically it's some kind of bug in the latest version of Contacts app, not the Phone app.
1. Just uninstall the updates of Contacts app (Settings -> Apps and Notification -> See all apps -> Click on Contacts app -> Click on uninstall updates option in the three dot menu on the upper right hand corner)
2. Just open the Contacts app now, it'll automatically merge the Contacts.
3. If you want, update the app now. The changes will persist.
This app solved the problem for me: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.contapps.android.merger&hl=es

Hi All,
Just go to digital well being under settings, then select do not disturb and under exception go to calls. Now select all list of contacts. Now wait for a while. It will merge slowly. Now last things is to deselect all that you want. Now you will no longer see any duplicate entries. It's a sync issue. Go and quick fix it.
Are installing unwanted app for a google problem? ok i have the solution.
go to setting -> account -> whatsapp account in account sync deactivate the sync option.
go to setting -> app -> search for "contacts" app -> storage -> clear storage.
all your contact are going to be removed, and google is going to sincronyze your contact again, without duplicate.
Sorry my english.
i hope this work for you, like is work for me
I solved this issue using Twitch 2! app.
In app settings, remember to enable "com.whatsapp" from providers list, and then just "save selected" in the main screen.
hope it helps.

This method works perfectly, for the latest version of Digital Well being you cannot select contacts, instead you can star duplicate contacts, and then go to accounts and sync contacts for the account. Check your phone app and you will see the starred contacts will be merged into a single contact.

Google Contacts Sync

Anyone else having trouble syncing contacts through google? I am on MIUI 9.6 China ROM, and I have installed the Google Contacts app and Google Contacts Sync from APKMirror (August 7th Version). Currently, when I try to restore contacts, it says that "No contacts are backed up to this account." However, when I go to Google.contacts.com, I can see all my contacts. Is the restore within the Google Contacts app searching a different location for the contacts? Thank you.
delete the gapps you installed manually and try the GoogleInstaller_V3.apk, for me contact sync and everything google related is working fine.

Is that the one that comes from the Mi Store when you search "Google"? I tried that one, but it didn't have contact sync.
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850489460
i used this and it included google contacts sync app (and its working fine)
install everything (except playstore), playstore just download, decline install - reboot - install missing playstore.
Are you already install Google contacts too from play store? If not try to install it then turn on the sync
Had this problem as well, but fixed it. Make sure to set permissions for both the Google Contacts app as well as the Google Contacts Sync app.
This is the step to sync contacts from Google account to phone.
1.Open your device's Settings app .
2.Tap Cloud and Accounts.
3.Tap Accounts.
4.Select Google (If you have more than one account on your device, tap the one you want.
5.See if the option to sync contacts is enabled.
key here is to go to the App settings, and make sure all the permissions for Google Contacts Sync are checked, also change Battery to No Restrictions
What finally worked for me was to follow the instructions to download Googleinstallerv03.apk mentioned above... but when going into Account -> Google Account there was no "Contacts" setting...
BUT I went into Xiaomi's Contacts app and in there I chose to sync contacts from a mail account. Gmail was one of the options. I had to sign in again and now I have The Google account and a IMAP/POP3 account pointing to the same mail but it was able to sync all the contacts AND in Settings -> Account -> Google Account now it says "Contacts" and it syncs correctly..
So that worked for me on a Xiaomi Mi CC9 bought in China with the Chinese stable ROM
I couldn't get this working on my Redmi K20 Pro...
I used the Contacts app's bluetooth import feature instead.
I faced to that before, I think you need to make sure you installed a right google service. I found some time the google installer install a wrong google service, you may try to fix the problem by re-install the google service. hope it help!
You can also restore contacts from device directly.
Step 1: Enter the "Settings" on the device.
Step 2. Choose "Accounts & Sync" under the "Settings" section and elect the "Add account" option.
Step 3. Tap "Google" from the list and then follow the prompts to proceed to the next step.

HuaweiP20 Pro Google contacts sync problem

Hi everyone,
I notice that my phone contacts do not sync with my Google contacts. If adding a contact from the PC it appears to my phone`s contacts. But adding it from the phone, even week later I can`t find it in my Google contacts.
I reinstall my google account, sync manually few times, checked the "Display Preferences", checked Google account settings (Sync Contacts option is checked) - zilch, nada.
Android Version: 9
EMUI Ver: 9.0.0 by Vodaphone
Would you give me a hand with this problem, please
Did you verify than when you add a contact on the phone you choose your Google account and not local/Huawei ID?
