[HELP] Quick settings Media Controls in A11 Beta 2 - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

I'm one of the people who is stuck on the old style media controls in the notifications. I'm trying to enable the new style using adb but it is not working. Supposedly using 'global qs_media_player 1' in adb will enable it. But when I type this command it says global is not a recognized command. My device is being read in adb, and it's authorized.
Does anyone know how I can enable the new media controls? Thanks

I finally got it working. The full command is: adb shell settings put global qs_media_player 1

How to Solve 'Unauthorize Device' in ADB

Hello, im using O+ 3 and just installed the Oxygen 3.2.2 OS
I wanna root it but got problem because my ADB says unauthorized
Ive already tried to dig some similar case and possible answers thru the internet but none of them work for me
Ive tried to enable disable the debug permission
I also already make sure my ADB is the latest one.
Also already try to delete the 'adb_key' files from my PC (im using windows 7 64bit)
The problem is most user which has similar problem with me got the 'authorized debug prompt' popped up again on their phone, but its not working on my phone.
It appear only one time at the very first time i connect it to my phone, but i accidentaly click 'cancel' on that prompt
But after that it never re-appeared again.
Can someone kindly help me? Thanks a lot

Make sure debugging is clicked on under developer options in the main menu. Then disconnect the phone from the pc and reboot the pc. Reconnect the phone after it reboots and hope that you get the adb prompt on the phone again.
android sdk have the latest tools including latest ADB. There is ADB standalone install, that means that if you tell us that you have the latest ADB, that only mean that someone extracted the ADB and lastest fastboot and did a repack and in the end it's not an official repack.
but "disable the debug permission" reset all the recorded device for debug so you should have another prompt.
If in the end you don't have another prompt, verify you adb version by installing the lastest android SDK, uninstall and reinstall the oneplus drivers.
Then if no prompt there is 2 choices :
- wipe the phone, it will reset the prompt for sure, 100%
- use another computer (well you have to have another computer).
I have a computer at home where this happened and I have never been able to straighten it out...tried everything.

Have you checked all of your USB ports? I know in the past (with other phones), problems arise if you're not using a direct USB port (one soldered into your MoBo).

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager > expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Now connect your phone. You'll now see USB Mass Storage Device. Right click on it. Select Properties, then go to Details. In the Details section, under Property, select Hardware ids. You'll then see the device id. It will be shown something like this: USB\VID_2A70&PID_9011&MI_01. From this you have to take the 2A70 code ~ the code between the first _ and &. Now go to desktop and create a new text document and copy paste this using your device id as shown:
Code:
# ANDROID 3RD PARTY USB VENDOR ID LIST -- DO NOT EDIT.
# USE 'android update adb' TO GENERATE.
# 1 USB VENDOR ID PER LINE.
0x2A70
Now open the Save As menu. In Save As type select All Files. Save the file as adb_usb.ini
Copy this .ini file from desktop and paste it in C:\Users\YourPCName\.android
Disconnect your phone, reboot your pc. Now with USB Debugging turned on, connect your phone to your pc, you'll surely get the permission thingy popup in your phone.
For completion:
If you DO NOT have access to your phone for any reason but still want to use ADB you can simply boot your phone into TWRP and follow these steps.
Windows:
1. Open %userprofile%\.android
2. Copy "adbkey.pub" to your phone (adb push %userprofile%\.android\adbkey.pub /sdcard/adb_keys)
3. Switch to your phone.
4. Go to Advanced > Open Terminal
5. Type in "stop adbd"
6. Move "adb_keys" from /sdcard to /data/misc/adb (mv /sdcard/adb_keys /data/misc/adb/adb_keys)
7. Type in "start adbd"
8. Switch to computer
9. Type "adb shell setprop persist.service.adb.enable 1"
10. Type "adb shell setprop persist.sys.usb.config mtp,adb"
11. Reboot your phone - DONE
Linux / Maybe Mac:
Same steps, but use "~/" instead of "%userprofile%"
Please note:
You may have to repeat the steps 1-7 after boot when still not having permissions so it makes sense to use cp (copy) instead of mv (move) and only repeat steps 5-7.
Edit: Please also check if your drivers are all installed and enabled.

Changing the DPI/"display size" on the stock global rom without root

tldr; the stock global MIUI rom lacks a display size setting, but an awesome free option by zacharee1 lets you set it anyway, even without root, and with no need to reboot or anything:
https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.zacharee1.dpichanger
----
I love the Max 2 -- way more than I thought I would! I bought it as a replacement for my old, sadly dead Nexus 7 tablet, but if it had LTE bands for US T-Mobile, this might have been my next phone. But for all that, MIUI made some "customization" decisions to android that I just don't understand... like two finger drag for expanding a notification... and removing the "Display Size" setting.
On other Android N roms, you can easily adjust the zoom/DPI/display size, making things smaller or larger. The stock global MIUI version on the Max 2, however, is missing the setting (and the "Smallest width" setting in developer options.) I thought I was out of luck after trying an option from the play store that failed, but found an app in XDA Labs from zacharee1 that worked!
It did require enabling adb, and developer options; in addition steps, I had to go to developer options and enable "USB debugging (security settings)" with a sim card inserted. Normally I used the Max 2 without one, but if you don't have a sim card inserted it will tell you to insert one, then fail.
Anyway, if anyone else would like to fit a bit more content on the screen, I'm really happy with this app so far! Some of Xiaomi's own apps don't quite scale well, which is probably why they disabled it, but they just have extra padding around the content. They still work just fine.
Awesome!
Sorry, noob here. When I run the command it tells me "error : no devices/emulators found"
I have turned on both USB debugging options in developer options and am using Minimal ADB and Fastboot. No Root.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Worked well!
Just chiming in and letting you guys know that the app package is zacharee1 (one), not zachareel (L). Gave me some problems for a bit!

Oh, sorry. I've never used minimal adb before -- have you tried running the adb command as an administrator? (You might have to run "adb kill-server" first, it will used an existing adb server with fewer privileges if it exists.)

Actually, yep! In developer options, there is a "USB debugging" toggle, then three lines down a "USB Debugging (Security settings)" toggle, that's the error you get when you have the first one toggled but not the second. You need both turned on.
(I'm speaking from personal experience, I made that same mistake at first; it's a bit confusing that the names are almost the same!)
thanks @ldrn, I'll give it a shot.
Works like Charm. I have set the DPI to 410 Thanks!

Correct, you have to uninstall all your layers and substratrum mods before accepting the OTA. I just saw this but you can boot into safe mode while system ui is fc and uninstall all the mods there and you should be good when you boot out of safe mode. No factory data reset needed.

I posted this before in another thread...
I was able to fix it without factory resetting my phone. To do it, connect your phone to a pc (pc that you previously connected your phone to and always allowed access), in cmd with adb, run "adb shell pm list packages > whateveryouwanttonameit.txt" and look through the text file for apps you installed that changed your status bar. Then in cmd run "adb uninstall com.appyouwanttouninstall". I did 4 among many, checked my phone, and didn't get the system ui has stopped messages

Thanks for the tip! Rather than saving to text I just used one window to output the packages to stdout, while I used another to do the uninstalls. Removing these two packages fixed the issue:
com.android.settings.SwiftDark.Android8defaultgrey.SamsungS8
com.android.systemui.SwiftDark.SamsungS8

Thanks houboy, you're a lifesaver.
Tried to center the status bar clock and the phone crashed.
Your method worked like a charm
I was reading through the reddit thread posted earlier and found an alternative solution which worked for me.
Log into Samsungs Find My Phone website, unlock your device and then switch on Power Saving Mode, then reboot. Once in Power Saver you will regain control of your phone. Now, switch off power saver and go disable all substratum mods and reboot again.
Happened twice to me while setting up my new Note 8. Resolved to finally wipe through hard reset menu, and setup as new phone. Some Substratum addon was lingering when I did a restore which was likely causing the UI crash.
this happened 3 times to my note 8, the culprit seems to be android pay, once you add a credit card to be specific . To fix the phone you need to put the phone in powersaving mode via Samsung dive then reboot.
once the phone rebooted in power saving mode just put it back to normal , after this procedure all cards are removed from google pay.

What's strange is that I have substratum installed but never ran it but I'm still getting the system UI error, thank good it hasn't totally blocked need but still doesn't make sense why this is all happening. I forgot I even installed it honestly.
I just uninstalled it so I'll see if that changes anything.
@squick You could try booting into safe mode to see if its a program causing it, but for me, i updated my phone software(update) with the substratum ui apk installed which caused me to get the force close error where only the screen showed system ui has stopped. I used adb to get a list of packages and remove the substratum system ui apk. A sure way to fix would be to reset the phone, but if you're able to use it, try removing apps you dont need from your applications in the settings. It's possible there could be another app interfering with the system ui

ADB commands not working

Has anyone gotten the ADB commands to work? I'm trying to see if I can get by without root, so I want to enable the enhanced battery stats in GSam battery. It doesn't work for me. I'm using the latest platform tools, and I have the USB file transfer checked.
Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try?
Thanks.
Have you enabled "USB debugging" in developer options? Cause ADB definitely works here, and i haven't done anything special to get it working. Steps i'd personally take if it wouldn't work are:
Make sure USB debugging is enabled and USB is physically plugged in.
Make sure everything is ok with the ADB drivers, double-check the device manager.
Check if the device appears in "adb devices", make sure its authorized on the device.
Try actual adb shell and other relevant adb stuff.
BTW, if you seem to have troubles with ADB drivers, you can try wireless ADB instead. It is only available without root on Android 11 and does require the absolute latest SDK platform tools, but hey, i've tested it, it works, and it doesn't require any special USB drivers. Follow the "Connect to a device over Wi-Fi" steps from https://developer.android.com/studio/command-line/adb to try that.

I had already done everything you suggested, but can't get the battery stats to work. I even tried it using wireless ADB, but had the same results. I get no indication that my command was accepted . I've never enabled permissions like this before, just used root, so I don't know if anything is even supposed to come up.

I used :

and

According to GSam labs website, I need to enable both of these.
I am going to try to contact the developer and see if I can get an answer as to why it's not working.

The first command supposed to grant a specific permission (BATTERY_STATS) to a specific app, i am unfamiliar with the second one (it turns a system setting named 'hidden_api_policy' on, but i have no idea what this setting is). I have no idea if those work as expected on Android 11, and Google loves changing stuff like that.
In any case, first, make sure you don't just run those commands from start->run or equivalent, but from a command line window, so if there are any errors you have a chance to read them. And finally, don't forget to force close and restart the app in question.

I am using the ADB shell in the platform tools folder. Yes, I'm sure I am making some stupid mistake . I had no problem rooting my Pixel 2Xl, so I'm hoping I can figure this out. I'll just keep trying.

When you do a "adb devices" do you see your phone and are you getting any prompts on your phone?

Yes, I do see my device, and I got a prompt on my phone the first time I connected.
I have managed to adjust my AOD brightness with ADB, so it must be something I'm doing wrong with the battery stats. I'm still waiting to see if the developer can give me any pointers. If I can't figure it out, I'll find another battery app.
I finally got it to work. The developer emailed me and told me that since I had the pro version, I needed to add pro after bbm.
Thanks for all the input!
I clearly remember you mentioning getting the package name wrong... the forum migration didn't exactly go smooth for xda, i guess :-/
Edit: WTF, now i see that last post, AFTER posting this one.
I'm having a similar problem.
Typing "adb reboot bootloader" using Windows Powershell, put my USB connected tablet into bootloader mode.
However when then typing "fastboot flash twrp.img" the command line returns "waiting for device" and appears to hang.
I definitely have Debugging ON, and "twrp.img" is in the adb folder.

fastboot flash boot twrp.img to install twrp, fastboot boot twrp.img to boot twrp
Got it eventually.

How to rescue data from my 9T Pro

So while walking it slipped out from my hand and hit the lower left corner.. The screen didnt even work anymore (after removing the glas, it was clear why, as the connector is lower left corner).
Good thing is, I have adb debugging enabled and my keys are known.. So I can access adb shell and various commands..
My problem is: It rebooted and now, the important stuff is NOT mounted.. Also via scrcpy or MonkeyRemote, I cannot send any touch event... Its not reacting at all.. Honestly, I dont know what it is doing, but its quite busy writing for ever logs in logcat, that the sensors have errors (which is no wonder).
So I tried various "adb shell input XXX", but its not working at all..
Tried to connect a mouse via normal usb-c hub, but I dont know if I would need an OTG cable or if it would even work.
DrFone and some other software, already wants the money, before unlocking anything.. And I would be Ok, if it would be 5-10€.. But buying the whole thing for 1 test, is a big no.
So my status:
adb shell working.
scrcpy at least showing a screen
phone is not reacting on anything else, besides the lockscreen to wake it up.. volume keys are also kinda ignored.
I tried the adb shell input stuff from stackoverflow, but nope.
Can I boot in any recovery thing and mount sdcard there? Does scrcpy work there?
What he heck is my phone even doing?? If I connect another phone in lockscreen and use scrcpy, I can also wake it up normaly.. So probably not only the screen got dmg while flying :/
Most annoying things: It has alarms going off all the time, as I can only snooze them -.-
Is there no command, to unlock it from adb/terminal? I know the damn pin
When I run top, the top most things are sufaceflinger and logd (between 2-15). So its not like sth is always at 100% cpu load..
So little status update:
all adb shell input XXX are simple not working, as Xiaomi needs another setting for that.. Which I cannot activate, without screen.
I will try a manual keyboard at home..
Is there a way, to root it with adb only? Would help me alot..
MIUI security center requires you bonded MI account to enable adb input commands in developer options. scrcpy has OTG mode and can emulate HID device.
scrcpy also didnt work, without that stupid setting set to be true/1.
Tested with my old Mi6. When I enabled the option in dev-settings, it worked fine.
But I was able to unlock it with a keyboard plugged in (+ mouse). Looks like the CPU also has some issues, as everything is slow-motion..
So I just tried, what do I need to press on the Mi6 -> then did it on the Mi9.
"hitting space -> pin -> enter", "hitting space -> pin -> enter".
But was able to rescue all my data + turn off the alarms.
PS.: I then tried to enable this setting, for inputs, but you need to have a SIM cart inserted, to activate it
PPS.: Oh.. Now I got you.. I have to enable this option in scrcpy.. OMG Will test that now
PPPS.: Yeah, with that otg mode, the keyboard and mouse would have also worked.. Well, for the next time I know it

Ok, thanks - that was missing
If you figure out the command line to enable it from adb settings put global I am very grateful

Ok, so I dumped all settings and props to files:
Code:
adb shell settings list global > global.txt
adb shell settings list secure > secure.txt
adb shell settings list system > system.txt
adb shell getprop > props.txt
then searched for adb, usb and similar butfound only the following:
SETTINGS GLOBAL:
adb_enabled=1
adb_wifi_enabled=0
verifier_verify_adb_installs=1
GETPROP:
persist.security.adbinput=1
persist.security.adbinstall=1
(My phone: Mi 11 Lite 5G NE, MIUI 13)
That is, eg ADB can be enabled/disabled as settings global adb_enabled
However, ADB Input is not in settings but as persistent prop persist.security.adbinput and it can be only manipulated by Magisk - and by TWRP but on the old devices where System is not read-only
IMO, it would be theoretically possible on the Mi 9T Pro, but not if display is broken where TWRP cannot be used (I doubt there is anything like scrpy that works for TWRP)

Btw (sorry, OT for the originally reported problem), Netflix cannot be fooled (DRM) to display over scrcpy, only subtitles are displayed on the PC
YT works fine (although without sound - I will try with sndcpy), and strcpy properly recognizes landscape orientation, hence window on the PC can be stretched over the whole monitor
Edit: On the other PC I tried, audio works fine with scrcpy

Nice! I was curious because I don't have Mi account. Although I didn't have this property, just set it from resetprop anyway and it worked!
We can set it from magisk patched boot.img ramdisk/overlay.d/custom.rc systemless. or just add it in init.rc directly.
Code:
on boot
setprop persist.security.adbinput 1
