Hello,
sorry i'm a newbie so if the thread is in wrong room, please mod to move it..
i've just bought my G1 a month ago and until now it hasn't received the updates OTA.
after searching how to get the updates for a whole month, then i noticed that it might be my G1 has it automatic updates turned off.
this is because i've bought 2 G1(one for my GF),and she G1 got the updates, even it's already twice. and she got notification about the other applications' updates ready for download. while my G1 never get any notification for the applications..
so i assume my G1 automatic updates setting is turned off, however i can't figure it out how to turn it on..
so anyone can help me please tell me how to turn on the automatic updates..
my phone info:
G1
firmware version 1.0
baseband version 62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29
kernel version 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 android [email protected] #6
build number kila-user 1.0 TC4-RC30 116143
thank you very much for the help
It sounds like you are not even using cupcake yet,
you could greatly benifit from a cynagon rom or the like.
also they are based off ADP1 so should be immune to the auto updates
But i want the new updates.. especially the emoticon.. there's no emoticon in the old version..
i'm new in this forum so i haven't read all the thread(maybe it will take forever>_<) but from what you said it seems that the cupcakes has many minus points..
But still i really want to send sms with emoticons>_<
how to remove this immune to automatic then..?
You can flash rc29 and wait to see if you get the update. But what the other poster was saying is just root your phone and go to one of the custom roms. You'll prolly be more happy doing that considering it has everything that the t mobile roms have plus more.
if i flash it,does it will get the android become factory reset?
okay then, i'll wait for this answer first,if the answer is no,then i'll flash it,but if the answer is yes. is there any way i can get the emoticons for the sms?
thx for the answer
First thing first: You don't know what you want.. automatic updates are NOT what you want as the provider takes over your phone. Root it and install updates manually.
search around for the official t-mobile cupcake update, should be posted somewhere on this forum. Flash that and you will probably start getting ota updates faster.
i just want to know one thing again..
when i flash my phone, will it be a restore default setting? because my phone isn't factory unlocked and i'll lose the phone function if i restore it to default-.-
please anyone can answer this and i'll thank you and close this thread^_^
pskay, after i read all over the forum,i know the update is not as good,so i'll try to root it,but please answer my Q so i won't be an idiot losing my phone>_<

I'm kinda confused what you just said. If your saying your phone is unlocked and want to know if you flash if your phone will become locked back to T-Mobile. If that is the question then your answer is it will still be unlocked. The sim unlock has nothing to do with it. You will be fine.
yups,you saw through me
thx very much for the answer..
i'll flash it right away
Hi all,
Just got a Xiaomi mi5... Was about 3 hours ago.
But I am already considering selling it back !
Why ?
Many reasons, but here the ones :
- it's so slippery that, even if it's put on a really flat table, the simple weight of the USB charging cable is enough to tear it and make it fall from the table ;
- it came with the CN ROM, and installing Google Play Store has been a nightmare...
- the unlocking procedure can take up to 10 days ! Which I can't understand especially now that kernel sources are officially released !
BUT the main reason is... My device is locked, with stock ROM. I don ot like the MIUI launcher so wanted to install my own.
Downloaded it. Installed it. Launched it. Set it as the default launcher. Gave it all permissions (+ autostart).
Despite al this, hitting the "Home" button keeps launching the MIUI launcher.
I think it's been a long time singe I ran into so much trouble just wanting to use a legitimately bought phone !!!
Any ideas on how to change the launcher for good ?
Help would be appreciated...
Regards.

Hi guys,
OK... Replying to myself !
It turns out that, to be able to choose another launcher than the default Miui launcher, I have to turn off "Enable Miui optimizations" in the developer options.
Just in case you're wondering, to turn on Developer options, you have to go to "Settings =>About phone" and then press 7 or 8 times repeatedly "MIUI Version".
Once enabled, developer options can be found under "Settings =>Additional settings".
Scroll down to the bottom of that page and you'll find "Turn on MIUI optimization" => untick the box that appears on that line.
Problem solved... so that is one !
Now let's try to find out why my Mi PC Suite doesn't detect my device !
Regards.
You do not need to stuck with China MIUI, you can flash Global MIUI which comes with Playstore.
You can either flash MIUI Global rom via Updater app or unlock the bootloader follow by fastboot to MIUI Global rom.

Hi Wang,
Of course, I know I can do that
And believe e, I can't wait to install another ROM than MIUI.
If I'd wanted to stick with MIUI, I'd go for the original instead of this pale copy, and would get my an iPhone
But I have requested an unlock code on the Xiaomi Unlock website and I am waiting for their answer.
In the meantime, I would like to use my device... and thus the need for the launcher
But I really fear that I am going to face a real problem : and that is to have my device be detected by my computer.
I download the MIUI PC Suite and installed it on Windows 10.
If I launch the app and hook up my device to my computer, and turn on MTP it does not see it.
Hope the unlocking app will detect it... or I'm stuck with stock which sucks (yeah, I'm kind of a poet !).
Regards.

MiPc doesn't work with Marshmallow, so it dosn't work with the Mi5.
But many people are experiencing other problems when trying to unlock, even though they have their permission.
But don't worry about it now

Hi Ethested,
Hum... that will be some sort of problem won't it ?
I've read that to unlock your device, you need to install Miui Dev version...
How will I be able to do that if I can't connect with Mi PC Suite ?
I've tried to flash from the updater, but all I got is a "Can't verify file" message... and thus can't install anything
I must say that I have never ran into so much trouble with a smartphone in the last 3 years.
And it is really diminishing the fun to have it...
Honestly : I have got the phone less than 24 hours ago and I am already considering reselling it

for unlock of bootloader u can either have china stable, china dev and global stable. so since urs is china MIUI shouldn't have a problem with unlocking.
I was facing the same updater app could not verify recovery rom problem, and my solution was to unlock the bootloader and follow by flashing the fastboot rom.
currently im running MIUI 8 Global dev. waiting for developer to port stable AOSP to mi 5 since Xiaomi just released kernel source few days ago.

The Kernel got released yesterday or 1 day before yesterday, which means serious native development has just begun and the Mi5s future and all of the problems will be saved
Hi Ethested,
OK. I know that. And that is of course excellent news.
But of course to be able to install a custom ROM I will first need to unlock my bootloader.
And to unlock the bootloader I need, according to almost all websites i've read :
- 1°) an unlock Code that is manually given by Xiaomi !!!! And it can last up to 3 weeks to get it... If you're lucky, it will be only 2 days...
- 2°) a Dev ROM installed, and not the Chinese Stock ROM.
I am waiting for 1°) and have little hope to get it before the end of next week, but that is pure speculation from my side...
Meanwhile, I would like to install the Global Dev ROM that has the integrated GApps and supports more languages than English and Chinese.
There are several methods to do it...
None of them works !
So when I get my unlock code, if I am unable to to use it because I can't install that Global Dev ROM, what do I do ?
Of course, if someone would be kind enough to answer TWO SIMPLE QUESTIONS, I'D BE GRATEFUL !!!
And that question would be :
"Do I need an unlocked bootloader to install a Global Dev Rom when my device is running Miui 8.0.10 ?"
" Will I be able to unlock my bootloader even if my phone has the Chinese Stock ROM that is not a Dev ROM ?"
So if anyone can light my candle... please share

I'm with MIUI 8 Global and MiPC Suite doesn't work on Win 10 for me also. It says "Your phone should be update..." or something.
@NexusPenguin,
You don't need Mi PC suite to flash MUI ROM, can you access internal storage from you computer ? Then put the ROM Zip into the Downloaded_rom folder and run update from you phone

Hi lapocompris,
It seems indeed you did not understand my question...
I know I can do that. But I think I mentioned in a post above that doing this only results in the message "Cannot verify file"... and so I can't update that way.
But it's over now... I got my unlock code, so unlocked the bootloader and got rid of that horrible MIUI interface ! At least, I find it horrible, but as it's quite popular, I think I am about the only one to not like it

I seriously hate miui as well. I find the font on the status bar very small and inconvenient to read. The notification drawer is very bad and handling notifications requires a lot of hassle. It seems to be the case that most of the chinese manufacturers are going the iOS like UI and interface which I, as a long time android user, effing hate! They take out the app drawer, they throw all apps on home screens without proper optimization for organizing them. There is some unnecessary bloatware as well like antivirus crap and memory cleaners.
I found the dev rom to be much more stable than the global stable rom which is funny.
I flashed cm13 which has been working great with very minor bugs and great battery life.
The biggest problem I have right now is not being able to install enterprise apps because the phone has custom recovery and rooted.
To be honest it's my fault that I didn't do my research about the interfaces implemented on top of android by chinese manufacturers . I assumed since this is android then I won't see much BS but damn!
I thought about getting a one plus 3 but their subreddit has pointed out a **** ton of problems which I can not live with plus 5.5" screen vs 5.2" makes a huge difference.
Just to provide some current info, I was in the same position of the op with a modified China rom. Requested unlock code and got a reply in about 30 mins. Unlocked the bootloader easily (make sure u sign in to same mi account on ur pc as the one on your phone.) Next step was flashing a FASTBOOT rom file. This was a problem as installing the required qualcomm drivers in Windows 10 using the faqs on the forums was not successful. Turns out there is a new windows installation package that is signed so windows recognises and uses it. Wasted a lot of time before I found this but actual flashing of global dev rom took like 2-3 mins after thay

Waiting till they incorporate support for capacitive home button before I switch to cm13
Hi there,
About 36 hours ago, I received my Xiaomi mi5 and I already am at the point where I want to throw it out the window and hope it will explode in 3 billions of pieces and so be unrecoverable for anyone !
My device came with the Chinese/english version of MIUI. More precisely, it's MIUI 8.07 that I have upgraded to MIUI 8.0.10.
But I would like to go to Global ROM in order to :
- have the phone in French ;
- hate the correct Google Apps installed ;
- possibly bypass some of the MIUI horrible limitations ;
- in the future, be able to unlock my device easily (if the unlock Code arrives one day ! Can't understand their stupid unlocking verifying process !).
My questions are really simple :
- is it possible to go from MIUI China Stable 8.0.10 to MIUI Global (Stable or Dev) with a locked BL ?
- if it is possible, how can I do that ?
Of course, I assumed it is possible. So I tried several methods :
- 1°) using the "Updater" app as given in the "Flash guide" provided on the official Xiaomi site where you can download several ROM for the mi5. I only get a message : "Could not verify file"... and so, that does not work.
- 2°) using the Mi PC Suite found on Xiaomi's own website. It's installed on a PC running Windows 10. If I hook up my mi5 to that PC, I can see the device, navigate in the internal storage and transfer files between the device and the PC. But the Mi PC Suite doesn't detect the device... If the device is in "Recovery mode" (with the Boby and cable on display), it seems to be detected, but it says : "MIUI 8.0.10 is installed. No need to upgrade"... Cool. So I tried to boot the phone into Fastboot. It is then detected but I get the message : "Try to run in normal mode before using this method"... Even nicer !
- 3°) so I tried the chinese Mi PC Suite. OK. There I do things blindly, but at least it seems to ask me what ROM I would like to flash... So I select the file (the original one downloaded from Xiaomi's website !). And obviously he doesn't want it... But can't tell for sure as it's all written in chinese
- 4°) Tried the MiFlash tool. No go. It simply doesn't detect my device at all
- 5°) of course tried to boot into fastboot... but then it says "UNlock device first".
So if anyone could answer those simple questions... And of course, giving an answer that applies to MIUI 8, because it seems that MIUI 8 is kind of... well, even worse than Apple iOS as a fortress !
Waiting for your replies....
Regards.
Hi,
Replying to myself.
Consider I did not asked. Looking at the MIUI download page, it's stated, in almost invisible caracters, that you first need to unlock your bootloader.
So, this answer the questions and solves the problem => I applied. Reports are : 2 days to over 3 weeks to get the unlock code.
Until then I am here with an almost unusable phone...
So it's already on an ad site to be sold and replaced with something else.
Regards.

Hi Nexus, I´m in the SAME situation as you. Actually I am really disapointed with Xiaomi reason to lock bootloaders, I honestly don´t understand that. Why you need to ask permision to do whatever you want with something you bought... Looks like we bought an Iphone.
The tutorials that are flying around are not working for all devices, hardware speaking might difer a lot one to each other. I tryied everything but looks like we need to wait to get the famous code to "play" with our device. Till then we will need to wait to use our porche running with poliester seats and get used to the chinise notifications from the video app which wakes you in the middle of the night. And of course you cannot uninstall it :cyclops:
I really miss my Nexus 4...

I Installed TWRP 3.0.2.0 as it seems the 3.0.2.1 is not working...
I will now flash Slim or Resurrection Remix...
Finally something usable !!!
I wish you luck and will tell you if the wait is worth it !

Lucky man
I will wait one week more. At least right now I don´t have a fake ROM.
Enjoy!!
Hi,
yes, the phone runs... But MIUI has some flaws that irritate me so much !
The first one : no GApps and it took some time to figure out what to do to have it working ;
The second one : once GApps installed, nightmare to change default launcher ;
The third one : the one in the thread ! ;
The last one (that spilled it all over) : contacts management : the MIUI App just loads ALL people you have sent a mail to or received a mail from... So when I was looking for a contact to make a phone call, I had to sort 3750 people instead of just my 150/200 usual contacts !
Installing Resurrection Remix and OpenGApps at the moment.
Regards.
Yeah, it's kind of a stupid question but I really need help to understand some things before doing anything and turning my phone into a paperweight. It's my first thread so I really hope you can help me with it
I'm from colombia btw.
Have to advice that english is not my first language so if you see any grammatical error it's probably that.
So; I've been investigating why my phone is still waiting for the miui 12.0.7.0 update since it's been stuck on miui 11.0.9.0 since a while, tried installing Every possible rom of the official site and that didn't worked. So I started to investigate and found that my phone has a custom rom installed by the business that selled me the phone; and that rom won't be updated anymore since that business is really lazy with that type of updates (I had phones by them in the past that just didn't updated at all since all the time I had them).
And now I'm wanting to change that rom to the official one (The Global One).
I've already started the bootloader unlock and I'm waiting right now for the 168 hours to be able to unlock it, but I've got some questions that i really need to get answered before I can start doing anything.
So let's start with this, ok?
Right, so my first doubt comes about the roms. Right now my phone has a Custom Rom made by "Claro" (also known as telcel on latam) and that custom rom is literally locking any update that comes from the global xiaomi updater; and it wouldn't be that bad if the phone wouldn't reset with A LOT of preinstalled apps and a custom logo for the startup that lags the phone even when starting up.
I would be able to change that custom rom from my phone into the official one without many complications?, I've been looking for some programs and it seems that Xiaomi Flash Tool and XiaoMiTool_V2 were some of my options (for not saying the only ones), and I would like to know your opinion about them and what of those two would you recommend me.
Both of the roms (the official one and the custom one) are "Global" so i would like to know if that would affect (or improve) anything at all.
My second doubt comes mostly on the unlocked bootloader, since what I had readed about it can actually block you from opening apps (like Netflix) and I wanted to know if it could be possible to lock it again since i'm installing the global one.
Have to clarify that it is a Redmi Note 9 with 128GB ROM and 4GB RAM, it's almost new (has like 2 weeks or so) and is currently running MIUI 11.0.9.0.
if you need anymore info or pictures I would be glad to give it to you if you can help me with my doubts.
Certainly, unlocking the bootloader is your best chance.
Unlock it first and then, flash the any other rom you want.
If you want, you can relock the bootloader again too.
Hello, I have recently received the Android 12 on my S21 ULTRA and since then my phone has been I bit of a mess. Download Odin, download your phone specific Android 11 firmware file from a reliable site like Sammobile and extract it. Use Odin to flash A11 firmware (select CSC and not HOME_CSC) after putting phone in download mode. This will force a factory reset and you'll have to set up phone from scratch, but you'll be back to Android 11, stock firmware.
Detailed guides for the above procedure can be found on xda as well as YouTube. The process is the same across all recent Samsung phones, just be sure to download the correct firmware.
@enigmaamit, thank you for replying. I got all that. However my question would will this bring back the phone to the same way as I have bought it from the carrier! because since the update, every time my phone boots it doesn't have the carrier logo anymore. Yes I'm not a fan of carrier locks or logos on phones. I just wanted to restore the phone to where as I just bought it. Thanks again for replying

Only way to be 100% sure it works is to try it out I guess. If you're really unhappy with A12 and want to go back, I don't see any harm in trying.
What disappeared? Like what issues are you having? You will probably run into a lot of issues trying to install 11 after installing 12. ESPECIALLY the Ota 12...
