Mi 8 Connectivity Issues across ROMs - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

So my phone's been having problems of being unable to detect my sim and at times unable to find my wifi, sometimes refusing to even let the switch toggle on. This was on a locked phone with no modifications on my end, updated to MIUI 11. Since then I've unlocked the bootloader, formatted and wiped the relevant stuff, gone to a different ROM, and then to Xiaomi.eu, still got the same problem. Any ideas as to what's going on, it's unusable at the moment.

[Galaxy Note 1] The Mystery of the (Supposedly) Missing Sim Card and Contacts

I bought my Galaxy Note (AT&T version) not long after the model was introduced. I rooted it, installed TWRP, and finally started using custom ROMs (ParanoidAndroid and then CyanogenMod). It worked just fine for a long time.
Fast forward a few years and I began running into problems. Apps wouldn't work, others would lock up and crash. Fast forward a few more years to just a few months ago, and I ran into a bug where sometimes a crash would cause a strange "NO SIM CARD" error. I tried all of the usual troubleshooting steps and nothing worked until I started trying different CyanogenMod updates. It turned out that switching between different versions would sometimes fix the error until the next crash, then I would have to start jumping between ROM versions again. There seemed to be no pattern to it
About a week ago, I was trying to get my phone to work using the same highly convoluted workaround I'd been using for months, but none of the CM versions I had downloaded would do anything so I downloaded a slightly older version hoping to fix the problem in the same way again, but the older CM version got me locked into a boot loop.
So I (for the first time in years) went into TWRP, created a backup, and tried some of the other ROMs still on my uSD card. All of them boot looped. The only way to get any of them to run was to wipe my data, but I did not want to lose all of my texts, calls, and contacts so I quickly restored my backup. Finally I found Candy5 which (with some really horrible bugs) DID work without wiping my data, and could find all of my texts, but my contacts were all gone. Strangely, downloading the same dialer app from my old ROM and looking at the call history shows names next to the calls until the name disappears as though the contact were updating.
Sorry for the long post. I guess my questions are, in essence:
Is there a fix for the strange "NO SIM CARD" error? I thought it was hardware-dependent at first, but only updating software fixed it so I'm not sure.
Is there a way to recover my contacts? Even if the phone is beyond saving, I would really like to have my contact list back. Apparently they should be stored in a .db file somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. Maybe switching ROMs deleted it.

Weird Nokia 8 sim-problem.

Sorry if this kind of problem has come up before, but I couldn't find anything similar to this so I decided to ask you guys if you have seen this before.
So, my problem started out of nowhere, my Nokia 8 (TA-1004) lost wifi and mobile data. I can't connect to wifi anymore and I have no service.
So here comes the weird part. My sim works in every other phone I've tested it, it just doesn't work in mine, AND every other sim card I've tested in my phone
works fine. My sim also blocks my wifi somehow, if it's inserted, it keeps turning off my phone's wifi, no matter how many times I keep turning it on. If I take
sim out, wifi works fine.
I forgot to mention that when this first occurred, I managed to get it work by turning on my phone with my brother's sim inserted, then switching his sim to mine without turning the phone off.
If I turned it off, the problem came back. Now, after Oreo 8.1 update and new sim-card, even this method doesn't work. Nothing has worked since.
Here's what I've done:
-Got new sim-card
-Factory reset through settings
-Wipe data/factory reset through recovery
-I called my operator, they didn't know what the problem is. They recommended to send my phone to manufacturer, but I hope it doesn't come to that. And maybe they
would try their sims in my phone and they would think there is no problem so no need to do anything.
Any help is highly appreciated, thanks
This is very strange problem. Only thing that comes to my mind as a solution is choosing the network by yourself
Sent from my TA-1012 using XDA Labs
I can't change any mobile network settings, because my sim card is detected only for a few seconds and then it's not, so it keeps turning it on and off.
Now I've tried my phone with two sim cards, my brother's (which worked fine on its own) and mine, and turns out that with my sim the other sim doesn't work either.
Same problem here...
every sim card works on the nokia 8 except the one that needs to work...
every other telephone works fine with said sim...
It is a complete new phone so we never tried it with an earlier version than android 8.1
Same problem here, I'm not sure if I downgrade the phone to 7.1 will it work again
Hello,
I have quite similar problem with my phone apart the fact that it was working perfectly with data until I receive Android Oreo 8.1 update (security update 1st Mai 2018). Since this upgrade data doesn't work with my SIM into Slot 1.
When I use the same SIM into slot 2 (hybrid slot that normally contains my memory card) then Data is back.
Do you have the same on your phone?
PS : I've contacted Nokia and their answer is : We have a lot of users reporting this, we are working on it.... I'm miss my old samsung S5....at least the updates were tested before release.
Nokia hotspot failed
I have the similar problem as I've changed the service provider. The new service has 50GB data volume. When turned the hotspot on for wifi sharing with my family, this function did not work but it was showing other devices had connected to the Nokia 8 but unable to use the wifi sharing. Therefore, I inserted the new 50GB sim to my daughter's iPhone 6 and it was running well when turned the iPhone 6 hotspot on. i.e. the sim card got nothing wrong. I did ask Nokia support and they did not find any issues on my Nokia 8. I reckon that must be the phone software / firmware problem as I could share the wifi for my family before I switched to the new service provider. Hope Nokia fix up this issue when they launch the new update. I feel depressed on this brand. I'd been using iPhones & Google Nexus 5 were running perfectly except Nokia.

Hey there,
I'm having the cellular connection dropping out 80% of the time and then coming back on randomly 20% of the time since the latest beta update (build 00WW_5_110_SP01).
I asked to revert back to the latest stable build OTA several days ago and still no notification.

Mi 8 Sim not detected and wifi doesnt work at all

how u doing people?
I have an issue with my mi 8 Global Stable miui 10. One day it stopped working the sim, calls and data. Suddenly the wifi also didnt work anymore. And I still havent unlock the bootloader. So I started looking everywhere, tried a lot of methods and stuff but none of them worked because the bootloader is locked.
And worse. I did a hard reset trying to fix it, but it got stuck on Mi Account to activate device, so I cant pass this because it cant connect to internet on any way, wifi or data connections. I try turning on Wifi but it disconnect by itself.
Please somebody can help what should I do?
(Once I could connect to wifi and finished the set up, but when I tried to add account to unlock bootloader, on developer options, the sim still doesnt work at all, and so wifi's,because I had to turn it off)
i got a dead phone on my hands...
thanks in advance
I am having currently the same issue. Could you finally solve it?
Same issue with mi note 3
Same problem
You guys should take your devices to the local service center.
That happened to me this vacation, I had the phone in warranty so it went to the service center, no reparation was possible so they offered me a refurbished phone instead.
Just one solution to this case
Change to custom rom
I have the same case last month

Sim card is visible but constantly No service

Good day, everyone.
I decided to ask for help because I cannot find any solution here and I'm out of ideas myself.
Three days ago my signal strength began to fluctuate. From full 4G to No Service, several times per hour, and eventually it stopped there. Sim card is visible but all I've got is No Service. I opened the phone and checked for possible damage but found nothing.
Thinking that it may be something software related I have installed Beast OS (sweet ROM, btw). That didn't help with signal problem. Still No Service. I've made clean flash from recovery several times, and tried different firmware versions but still no luck. Today I flashed MIUI Global 11.0.2 via flashboot but that didn't help either. Oh, yeah. One more thing that may or may not give you a hint. When I used *#*#4636#*#* while on Beast OS I couldn't turn radio on. I can do that now on stock ROM but it doesn't help either.
Please, if anyone has an idea of what can I do, let me know before I give up on this otherwise really good phone.
Just to clarify, microSD card works just fine but SIM card put in the same slot still has that connectivity problem.

Mi 9 network/wifi stability issue

Hello everyone,
I just got my phone back from after sales service due to my phone been softbricked (black screen, device not charging when plugged, ...) and by phone can boot now but it's bugging as soon as i put a SIM CARD in it.
When putting the SIM CAR in, phone is loosing wifi connection every 60 seconds (approximately) even right beside the router, and for the network, i'm stuck in EDGE and no signal stability either.
It's the same SIM CARD that was in before i sent it for repair, so the issue should not come from it (and it's working fine on my old Mi5)
One change they did is that they've updated the rom to the last MIUI 12 EEA stable rom, it was still on MIUI 11 global when i've sent it.
I've already wiped it and installed again the last update but it didn't work.
I was wondering if the issue was not coming from the EEA rom instead of the global rom, but i'm unable to install it since i don't have a computer anymore that i can use for xiaomitoolV2 and since it's still under warranty i would like to avoid unlocking it.
Is this kind of issue known ? could it be only software issue ?
Thank you for your help.
I didn't install any specific app that could have modified the settings and no specific app or setup is usually required with my network provider.

More than likely it's going to be software issues. Did you already any apps top modify system settings?
