Experiences with GSI / Treble on P8 Lite 2017 (PRA-LX1) - P8 Lite (2017) Discussion

Hi,
I've been experimenting with my P8 Lite yesterday and I wanted to share my findings with you.
Let's try to sort things properly so it easier to read:
Process:
I unlocked my bootloader some time ago using an online services for 5 € or so.
Returned the software to stock using eRecovery (volume up while booting).
Powered off the phone, holded the volume down button and connected the USB cable to computer to enter bootloader / fastboot mode.
Erased the system partition: fastboot erase system
Flashed the latest Android 10 phh-Treble ROM available in this board: fastboot flash system system-quack-whatever.img
Flashed the latest TWRP available on this board: fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery-whatever.img
Disconnected the USB cable, holded the power button and volume up button until the phone restarted into TWRP.
Formatted data into ext4, then formatted it back to f2fs (from my experience, this fixes a lot of bootloops).
After booting, installed dilemma's overlay using the steps mentioned in his thread.
Results:
After 10-15 minutes of the Android logo, the system rebooted. It did the same again, so I decided it was not working.
Reformated data as in step 8 above to no avail.
Additional tests:
Used the same process above, but with Android 9 phh-treble image.
This time, it booted properly.
What's not working: Bluetooth LE, GPS
What's working: WIFI, Cell Data, calls, battery stats (and other things I cannot recall, just ask if curious).
Not tested: Everything else.
I thought Dilemma's overlay could fix the GPS and Bluetooth LE issues, but it didn't.
Anyone got those things running on any GSI / Treble rom?
Thanks in advance.

got a similar problem, after unlocking bootloader and installing twrp, did the same steps. tried lineageos 17 and aosp 10 gsi, same result, stuck on bootup logo and it won't go over. maybe it doesn't support android 10? have you successfully tested android 9 gsi?

Try LOS 15 GSI on Figo board firmware , it's smooth as hell!

BOOT problem

99% SOLVED
Hello all.
EDIT 070117 Partially SOLVED - after 0% battery is possible enter to FastBoot, but problem with TWRP or Unbrick stay...
EDIT 2 only Revolution recovery is going, but no efect... still trying install OS
I tried install Revolution ROM on my Huawei P9 lite (1 SIM card model for Europe - LN21), I unlocked BOOTloader, flash recoveries and ROMs, but after last install phone reboot ONLY in "wait for boot" mode... No acces to recoveries and FASTBOOT mode.....
Any ideas?
Thanks..
EDIT 10 01 2017
After about 100 reflashing everything inside OS works only 1 solution (99%) - i was on broke Nougat, nothing work correctly....
go to fastboot (turn off, hold down volume and plug USB - PC)
1. flash twrp beta 9 from BadWolf
2. Flash this zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...1&d=1481994704
IN CASE OF UNABLE MOUNT ANY PARTITION - USE product v_3 (twrp restore by Badwolf)....
3. Put the MM UPDATE.APP in the DLOAD folder on EXTERNAL SDCARD (it is possible use internal storage, i used VNS-L21XXXXX120)
4. Install it using the 3 button method (dload method) but sometimes work only + volume and power on
5. Factory reset
In case - decryption code need, only write anything and ask on revert data by eRecovery....
Now everything works correctly , ONLY FASTBOOT DONT WORK yet....
PS SORRY for terrible english!
6. DONE!!

Xiaomi Mi 9 stuck in a bootloop, now with no OS. Help needed

Yeah, I'm not feeling very smart right now.
Short story:
Accidentally wiped OS in TWRP, now only seem to have access to fastboot. Can I fix this? Flash another ROM? Anything? Bootloader is unlocked, can't seem to get into TWRP anymore. Power + Volume up only takes me to fastboot again.
Long story:
Magisk module caused a bootloop. Wanting to try and avoid a factory reset, I tried sideloading Magisk for TWRP which didn't work, ultimately gave up and wanted to perform a factory reset via TWRP, but I've been working late and ticked the wrong box without thinking. Bad idea, I know. Wiped system, yes.
Aside from feeling exceptionally stupid, can this situation be salvaged? The phone doesn't switch off, it just sits in fastboot. I have Minimal ADB and Fastboot on my PC. Any help will be greatly appreciated, really.
Just in case anyone else ends up with a similar problem, the resolution was fortunately rather straightforward - I needed to grab the Mi Flash tool (as it turns out, this version worked best), stock firmware for my version, go into fastboot (which was no issue as that was the only thing my phone would do) and then open the Mi Flash tool and flashing the firmware was pretty straightforward from there. I even managed to get a BSOD during the process, but it's not like it could get any worse, anyway. Rebooted, restarted the process and about 10-15 minutes later, my phone was happily booting again.

With Fastboot mode and Mi flash as fail safes , we can flash to our hears content with no worries !
Also a more automated tool is a custom mi flash tool by a developer called XiaimiToolV2 ,which has a dedicated mode for bricked phones or downloads the latest fastboot roms for you.

I had excaxtly that witha my mi5 , completely dead .
Leave it on the charger for a little bit, mine after an unsuccessful flash with mi flash (catastrophic error message) it turned back on.
IF not download XiaomiTool V2 and try the option for bricked phones.
I tried that yesterday but that option is still in development. Only the modifications one is supported currently. As for the issue mentioned, maybe it's really just a matter of charging the phone first. Can't hurt either way.

Try to use the EDL mode
How to force it to EDL by key combination or maybe deep flash cable ?
My Mi account is authorized for EDL flash but I cant get Mi9 into EDL mode on my PC ( Windows10 )
No OS, but working TWRP
Hi,
I have a similar problem with my mi 9.
I followed a really bad description for the update xiaomi.eu from MIUI10 to MIUI11.
https://www.chinahandys.net/xiaomi-eu-rom-update/
It recomended to wipe alvik / Art Cache, Cache AND System :crying:
So I do not have no OS any more. However, TRWP is still working.
I have a Backup but it did not work :crying:
Is there a better option than the Mi Flash tool?
Please help me!
Since you already have TWRP, download the latest Xiaomi.eu custom ROM available for the Mi 9, which is 9.11.7 to your computer.
Also download the latest TWRP by Mauronofrio from XDA which is 3.3.1-42.
Then use adb to transfer both the ROM and TWRP to your Mi 9.
In TWRP, install TWRP first and manually reboot to twrp using the vol up + power button.
In TWRP, install the ROM, do a factory reset, then finally reboot.

Thank you very much for your reply.
When I tried to make my TWRP backup work I had several problems.
First was "vendor read only". So I went in TWRP to "mount" and unticked the "mount vendor partition read-only" (sounds easy, took me some time to find out)
Then I was able to do the restore without error message. However just boot loop and only the possibility to access TWRP.
After some while I realized that this restored the wiped system partition.
So I flashed the aktual MIUI 11 9.11.7 again and rebooted.
And it worked perfectly! :victory:
I did no Factory reset all the time, it seems that everything is perfect!
No lags, no problems with the camera, no issues with auto rotation.

Did you install twrp?
download minimal-adb-fastboot-1-4-2-exe
Download twrp-3.3.1-1-olive.img
Rename twrp-3.3.1-1-olive.img to twrp.img and put in the folder with minimal-adb-fastboot.exe
open "Minimal ADB and Fastboot"
Type in the following command and press Enter
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Wait for your phone to boot into bootloader mode. You can boot your phone in bootloader mode by pressing and holding Volume Up + Power key
Type in the following command and press Enter
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
After the recovery is flashed, enter the following command. But right after the phone power offs, press and hold Power button as well as Volume Up button so that the phone boots into TWRP and it patches itself. Otherwise, you would have to flash TWRP again.
Code:
fastboot reboot
Installed this rom and worked well except fingerprint, looking forward for the updates! :good:
Installed and works fin, except from the lock screen.
When screen locks, remains unresponsive and need to reboot in order to use the phone.
tried changing lock screen settings but not working
Any idea how to solve?

In smartphones with crappy software like meizu I get it why people install custom rom even though they're riddled with bugs, laggy and lack a lot of features. But why would anyone choose that over MIUI? It's one of the best android forks out there!

Lineage doesn't contain so much bloatware, it tracks less info about a user than a manufacturer rom, there are less spying apps, it is slightly faster due to a cleaner and lighter ui, it uses less battery, and, subjectively, after years of using LOS on various smartphones, it is more comfortable to stay on a familiar ui than to get accustomed to a new ui. the only useful thing miui has and LOS doesnt - clone apps (2 different whatsapp accounts, one for an each sim, are useful).

So i finally managed to install this great custom rom.
I too get this message everytime i reboot, but i haven't noticed any problem that comes along with the message.
The only problem i was faced with was fingerprint not working, and i'm honestly not too bothered with it, yet if that were to be addressed i couldn't be any happier.
"Bonjour" everyone
install and works, with the internal system error and SElinux alert on reboot like some other
But I have no mobile data (4G/3G/2G) and no bluetooth connexion. (wifi OK) and no fingerprint, but this last pblm is known.
And no baseband in phone settings !
someone got an idea to solve my pblm please ?
Flashed with the lolz v7 kernel after installing the lineage rom unoffical olive, but no Gapps installed.
Thank you so much,
FIXED: Do this if you have a boot loop:
In TWRP go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Repair and select one by one all of the possible partitions except USB OTG and Micro SD Card
adb sideload the ROM again and press reboot, EVEN if it says no OS
If you aren't successful, keep trying. I managed to do it by rebooting lots of times and a couple hours.
==========================
Guys i'm having problems installing this ROM:
I unlocked the bootloader with the toot that Xiaomi provides and everything fine:
(bootloader) Device tampered: false
(bootloader) Device unlocked: true
(bootloader) Device critical unlocked: true
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
(bootloader) Display panel: OKAY [ 0.070s]
I checked the status from the fastboot oem device-info, and everything is correct
I installed TWRP from the official source (twrp-3.3.1-1-olive.img)
I wiped all dalvik, data, internal storage, cache, system and vendor partitions
I did adb sideload and it says success but at the top of the screen it says "E: Unable to decrypt FBE device", I don't know if this has something to do
I downloaded the latest version of the ROM (lineage-17.1-20200127-UNOFFICIAL-olive.zip) and checked the MD5, everything correct
TL;DR: The problem is that I am stuck in a boot loop with no OS
I can see that others managed to install it without any problem, so It would be nice if you went through a gotcha. I want to start developing afterwards, but I'm stuck =(
unable to decrytpt fbe device pls help

Hi,
I have the same probleme and also the "there is an internal problem with your device"
the "com.qualcomm.qcrilmsgtunnel" crash at the start of my phone, I think it's linked with no mobile data error ??
Best regard
Can we flash this rom on olive lite 8a , bcz we don't have any custom Roms for this
Everything works fine for me, I want to share my experience.
I have the Xiaomi Redmi 8 M1908C3IG. I am on Ubuntu 18.04 so I had to use some tools that work on Linux.
what I did:
installed the latest official ROM olive_global_images_V11.0.11.0.PCNMIXM_20200519.0000.00_9.0_global_2813f928ed.tgz
unlocked the bootloader with XiaoMiTool-V2 you have to wait 7 days
installed TWRP with XIAOMI-TOOL-MiFlash-for-Linux-by-IceMan-master
in TWRP I wipe every option in Advanced wipe, then I had to Format Data and reboot
in TWRP I installede via sideload - adb sideload lineage-17.1-20200127-UNOFFICIAL-olive.zip and adb sideload open_gapps-arm64-10.0-pico-20200705.zip
On every boot I get "Android-System Es liegt ein internes Problem mit deinem Gerät vor. Bitte wende dich diesbezüglich an den Hersteller"
And then "com.qualcomm.qcrilmsg... wird wiederholt beendet"
Other then that everything works fine.

you have to use the password you used on the original Install. I think you could still restore everything with the official app from Xiaomi and then try again!

Op3t bricked

HI there,
a few days ago I wanted to clean flash on my OP3T Havoc OS beta (the one based on Android 11) over the current stable Havoc OS based on Android 10. I ended up making a huge mistake wiping everything including system partition and data partition including Downloads and Personal Files. So now all I have left is a functioning TWRP recovery, an unlocked bootloader; the device is encrypted but has no OS on it! I don't have a backup. My main problem is I can't fastboot or adb the device - not on the black screen I get after the oneplus symbol during boot - and not in TWRP or Bootloader mode because the telephone is not recognized in device manager on my win 10 machine, same on another linux machine, the device is not recognized by adb or fastboot. Next thing I want to try is usb stick OTG and go from there.
Anyway, thanks for reading. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Using OTG is the way I'd go also if the phone isn't recognised by the PC.
You said your phone has an unlocked bootloader and that you get a black screen when the phone boots.
With an unlocked bootloader you should be getting the warning screen (see picture) which disappears after 5 seconds. And you should be able to select fastboot or recovery, etc by pressing the volume button.

My suggestion is that you purchase an OTG (bout $10++) then place any ROM inside. After that, flash it on your phone through TWRP. If that doesn't work and somehow your partitions are all messed up, there's always the unbrick method here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/op3t-latest-9-0-6-collection-of-unbrick-tools.3896765/

Strange Error: No USB Connection, only Fastboot possible, TWRP does not load

Hello everyone.
My dad sent me his Mi A2 to have a look after not booting into the (rooted) stock ROM. So I have done some "repairs"...
First, I managed to flash the latest LineageOS for the Mi A2. This worked, but after the next LOS update was released, I could only update the system after a factory reset.
So I began the whole procedure again: I flashed TWRP (version 3.5.2_9.0) on the active slot (using an Intel PC, an USB 2.0 port, a good cable), installed the system (LOS 18.1) again, changed the active slot, installed TWRP on this one and rebooted to recovery. The phone booted to the TWRP splash screen and then... nothing. It stays in a (very dark) TWRP splash screen. Then I changed to fastboot mode, tried to boot a temporary TWRP, but it refused to. I tried the latest Mi Flash tool, but although it recognized the phone, it couldn't flash the latest stock ROM. After that the PC suddenly said that the device cannot be recognized and now I cannot access the phone via USB, although PC, USB port and cable did not change. I tried to acces EDL by using test points - nothing. The phone charges, but nothing else works. I cannot boot into recovery, I cannot boot into the system, I only can boot into Fastboot, but have no USB connection.
Is this a hardware error? Did I mess up something at some point? What else can I do (except putting it into the recycling bin)?
Thanks for your help in advance
Nufan
