No problem here - I use HTC and Sennheiser earphones and all's well.
If you didn't already, ALWAYS do a clean install. Things mess up otherwise.

i did a clean install but same problem.
I can confirm this issue on a clean install with a full wipe - my HTC headset (my favorite) doesn't work with 4.2 firmware, but worked well with 4.1,
I can't find the original headset that came with my sony xperia z anymore, but some crappy in-ear headphones (without mic) that accompanied my sony ericson mw-600 bluetooth headset do work also with 4.2.
Same here!! It can't detect my roccat earphone with mic
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
well i have the same problem too, except i'm not using other type of brand for headphone/headset.
i'm using Sony Playstation Wireless Stereo Headset using stereo cable included in it.
before upgrading my xperia z to 4.2.2, it work wonders.
after upgrading just yesterday, my headphones didn't recognized to my phone at all, the output sound is the external speaker on the phone
they didn't work when i switched on the headphone (there are on/off switch on the headphone), but that's because i want to fully experience the high quality sound when it's on and the output sound would be the external speaker on the phone.
sadly when it's off switched, the headphone works well but using standard quality sound. the bass won't come out...
what is happening with the upgrade, Sony???
Y U not recognized ur own brand headphone???
@pisola, I don't think Sony is reading xda forum posts.. If you want to complain, you should do it on the Sony support.
Though I'm absolutely with you.. It's really evil (or stupid) what they did with the headphone jack in the 4.2 update.
I just tried my Sennheiser PX-100 through the 3.5 mm jack, and it works fine.
But I usually use the Sennheiser PX-100/Sony Pulse Elite Edition with the SBH20, though.
I have found the fix for the pulse elite problem. Just change the cable to a normal 3.5mm jack with a 2 black ring connector. The original pulse elite cable come with a 3 black ring connector for mic , it will not work for xperia .
urbeats
can you help my I bought urbeats Earbuds but they are not working with my phone Sony Xperia C they work only if i push in the headphone cable very slowly and they work without mic or Button pleas help

if the SoundAbout fix works for you. I uninstalled all updates for Smart Connect, installed soundabout, checked headset, then connected my headphones, and played a song and it played through the headphones fine. I then updated Smart Connect to the current version, and my headphones continued to work as they should! Uninstall soundabout.

Hi. I heard that any kind of old earphones don`t work on Xperia Z1, Unfortunately. So, I`m looking for advice about using my Xperia Arc`s earphone.
The wiring swapped to be the same as on the iPhone I believe, perhaps back with the Xperia S onwards.
You might be able to get an adapter, but I'd suggest just getting new earphones unless you're really attached to the ones on the Arc!
All normal "3 pin" earphones work just fine (except for a little bit of static noise for a few seconds after plugging in). There will be problems with old headsets though.
Headsets must comply to the new CTIA headset standard!

I should have added that normal headphones are okay, it's anything with a mic or control buttons (e.g. call/end).
I have an Xperia Z which I have now updated to 4.4.4. Before the update I used my earphones and earplugs from AKG, which are "made for Android". Both the microphone and remote worked perfectly. After the update, they don't. Nothing happens when I push the buttons.
I do get sound in the headphones, but the mic and remote does not work. Any other experiencing the same and know a solution?
I already had older Xperias , and I had problems with the compatibility of headphones ... when the headphone that came with it stopped working , no other headphone I bought worked right . I saw that the Xperia Z3 Compact , at least where I live, comes with a simple phone , and the other from Sony are well expensive for me , as for example one with noise reduction. Would anyone tell me if I have this problem with the Xperia Z3 Compact ? Any headphone that works with him and that is accessible and good do you recommend ? PS : I live in Brazil . Thanks.
I've used Yamaha earbuds, Samson over the ear headphones, and Koss earbuds, all with no issues.
Hello everyone,
could someone please check if the 5 PIN microphone STM10 works with the new Xperia 1 ii?
Thank you
lolol ,
hi i was wondering the same thing yesterday
i think if there is 5 pins on headphone, it should work
I have them.
I installed Sony Audio Recorder and tried recording, but it didn't work. This 3.5mm jack doesn't seem to be 5 pin.
5 pins jack doesn't work.
Thank you for your replies.
I'm sad about that. But it's OK, the mic was released with the Xperia Z2.
I have the same microphone, I thought that would work in this phone Sony advertise the phone like a professional camera, why not supporting the external mic?
